Soloman Randell, 81
LINCOLN - Soloman Randell of Lincoln died of natural causes Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 81.
Mr. Randell was born Aug. 26, 1921.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Randell was a farm worker.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Winn Randell; and two stepchildren, Johnny Lee Jackson and Vera Huge.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Minus Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier. Bishop Dorina Miles will officiate.
Burial will be in Delaware Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Bear.

Bernice A. Sanderson, 81
ROCKLEDGE, Fla. - Bernice A. Sanderson of Rockledge, Fla., died of heart failure Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in the Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge, surrounded by her children. She was 81.
Mrs. Sanderson was born June 12, 1921, in Gouverneur, N.Y. She had been a resident of Dover for 15 years prior to relocating to Florida in 1994.
She devoted her life to nurturing her six children and many grandchildren, while traveling extensively as a military wife. She was a kind and generous person and touched everyone she knew with her love and laughter and will always be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grand mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joseph N. Sanderson; and three children.
She is survived by six children, Euphemia Pippert of Cape Cod, Mass., Anna Hahn Miller of Suntree, Nelson J. Sanderson of Englewood, Yvonne Hakim of Newark, Del., Jeannie Robey of Woodbridge, Va. and Debra Ragolia of Tinton Falls, N.J.; 30 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held in the Central Community Church in Cocoa. Fla. A second memorial service will be held when she is laid to rest with her husband in Sharon Hills Memorial Cemetery, Dover, in the early spring.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Senior Care of Brevard Inc., 300 Tucker Lane, Cocoa, FL 32926.

Gina S. Shoemaker, 49
SMYRNA - Gina S. Shoemaker of Smyrna died after a three-year battle with cancer Monday, March 3, 2003, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 49.
Mrs. Shoemaker was born July 13, 1953 in Baird, Texas, daughter of Selman and Christine (Bryson) Correll.
She met her husband in Texas while he was stationed there in the U. S. Air Force.
After marrying. she made her life in Delaware as a homemaker, loving wife, mother and adored Grammy.
Mrs. Shoemaker enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, and reading. She enjoyed family road trips back to Texas to visit with family.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ralph A. Shoemaker Jr., of Smyrna; a son, Ralph A. Shoemaker III of Smyrna; two daughters, Christine Shoemaker of Smyrna and Jennifer Shoemaker and her fiancé, Gordon Fletcher, of Hartly; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Correll of Baird, Texas; two sisters, Melba Defossess of Baird and Doris Jaggers of Baird; a sister-in-law, Gloria Jean Saunders of Dover; and six grandchildren, Jessica, Paul (Bubba), Heather, Raven, Melvin and Sarah; also she was excited about her seventh grandchild due in September.
Remembrance services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Trader Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover.

Judith Ann Spriggle, 62
MILLVILLE - Judith Ann Spriggle of Millville died Monday, March, 3, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Spriggle was an insurance agent for Wilgus Associates in Bethany Beach and the secretary for the Millville Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard "Ken" Spriggle in October 2002; and her father, William Goodwin.
She is survived by her mother, Eleanor Devitt; two brothers, Thomas and James Goodwin; a sister, Joan Hurst; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be noon Friday in the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue in Ocean View, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, south of Millsboro.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Millville Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, Millville, DE 19970.

Howard Wayne Abbott, 56
LAUREL - Howard Wayne Abbott of Laurel died Friday, March 2, 2001, in his home. He was 56.
Mr. Abbott was born June 21, 1944, the son of B. Frank and Irene Abbott of Bridgeville.
He graduated from Bridgeville High School and attended the University of Delaware.
He was a partner in Abbott and Abbott Construction Inc. He also was owner of Diamond State Llama Farm, where he raised and showed llamas and won many trophies and ribbons.
Mr. Abbott was a 30-year member of Gethsemane Lodge 28 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, where he served as grand master.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two daughters, Heather Baer of Bridgeville and Debbie Jester of Lincoln; four grandchildren; and his companion, Ellen Dunn, of Laurel.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hardesty Funeral Home, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. A Masonic service will be at 12:45 p.m.
Burial will follow in the Blades Cemetery, Blades.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Union United Methodist Church, 2 Laws St., Bridgeville, DE 19933; or to Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 600 N. Du Pont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Bettie Louise Ely Wilkerson, 74
DOVER - Bettie Louise Ely Wilkerson of Dover died of respiratory disease Sunday, March 4, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 74.
Mrs. Wilkerson and her first husband owned and operated Bon-Bett-Har, a home for the mentally disabled in Marydel. She continued to provide care for clients in her home until she became ill.
She was a lifetime member of the Marydel Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Wilmington Manor Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Wilkerson was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry C. Ely, in 1984.
She is survived by her current husband and dearest friend, David Wilkerson of Dover; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine Ely-Spence and Rick Spence of Marydel; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ashua and Aud Lathbury of Middletown and Donald and Lavern Lathbury of Wilmington; a granddaughter, Melinda Ely Wieber, and her husband, John Wieber, of Marydel; a grandson, David Christoper Jones, and his wife, Chrissie Rigby-Jones, of Marydel; and six great-grandchildren, Aliesha, Sarah, Zachary, Austin, Alex and Cassie.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1140 East Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Greensboro, Md.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Marydel Fire Co., P.O. Box 400, Marydel, DE 19964.

David Figueroa, 38
DOVER - David Figueroa of Dover died Friday, March 2, 2001. He was 38.
Mr. Figueroa was born Feb. 6, 1963, in New York City, the son of Juanita Noriega of New York City and the late Julio Figueroa.
He was a maintenance supervisor in Philadelphia for several years, until he became disabled. He created Web pages and was a webmaster.
Mr. Figueroa was a volunteer for AIDS organizations and enjoyed traveling.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother, Julio Figueroa of Ocean City, N.J.; a sister, Marisol Figueroa of New York City; and his significant other, Ernie Davis of Dover.
Memorial service will be held on the beach in Ocean City, Md., at a later date.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware HIV Consortium, 100 W. 10th St., Wilmington, DE 19801.

John Johansen, 83
LEWES - John Johansen of Lewes, formerly of Somerdale, N.J., died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. He was 83.
Mr. Johansen was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant with the Signal Corps in Germany for the 7th Army.
He was a member of the International Assoc. of Ironworkers, working on and supervising some of the well-known structures in the Philadelphia/Camden, N.J., area, such as the Benjamin Franklin and Walt Whitman bridges, the Spectrum and Veterans Stadium.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sydney F. Johansen.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara J. Bartman, and son-in-law, Richard R. Bartman, both of Lewes; two grandchildren, Timothy J. Bartman, of Macungie, Pa., and Melissa L. Bartman of Greensboro, N.C., and two great-grandsons, David Bartman and Jonathan Bartman, both of Boyertown, Pa.
Mr. Johansen was a member of the Humanities Gifts Registry Program.
There will be no viewing or service.

Terry LeGates, 90
GREENWOOD - Terry LeGates of the Country Rest Home, Greenwood, and formerly of Milford, died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 90.
Mrs. LeGates was born in Carmarthen, South Wales, United Kingdom, daughter of the late Richard and Mary Elizabeth (Davies) Carter.
She worked as a nurse for 11/2 years at Kingston on Thames, the largest hospital in London. She left to care for her family. She worked as a waitress for several years in Carmarthen. She came to the United States in 1953 to visit her sister, Margery, and never returned to Great Britain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard I. LeGates, in 1994; and a sister, Lena Carter.
She is survived by a sister, Margery Carter Brittingham, of Felton; a niece, Mayor Sandy Cook of Henderson, Md.; a nephew, Tony Brittingham of Church Hill, Md.; four great-nephews, Darrel Brittingham of Church Hill and Jesse J. Cook III, Casey Vashni Cook and Roy Len Cook, all of Henderson; and a sister-in-law: Dorothy Wright of Milford.
Graveside service will be private at the convenience of the family in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.
