Mary 'Mai' Ayres, 92
Greensboro, MD - Mary "Mai" Ayres of Greensboro died of natural causes Monday, March 5, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Easton, Easton. She was 92.
Mrs. Ayers was born July 17, 1908, in Co Sligo, Ireland, the daughter of the late Sara Frizzell.
She moved to Greensboro from Rego Park, N.Y.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ayers was a member of St Benedict's Catholic Church in Ridgely.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Ayers, in 1971.
She is survived by a daughter, Maureen Herzberg, and her husband, Ollie, of Greensboro; a granddaughter, Colleen Richardson of Tustin, Calif., and a great-grandson, Ryan Patrick Richardson of Tustin.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Burial will be St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-0050.

Daphne Dorinda Hall Bennett, 48
CLARKSVILLE - Daphne Dorinda Hall Bennett of Clarksville died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, of a stroke. She was 48.
Ms. Bennett was born in Selbyville, the daughter of Leona Mae Hall of Clarksville and the late Albert Ulysses Drew.
She graduated from Indian River High School and Delaware Technical Community College with an associate of arts degree.
She was employed as a supervisor at the Stokely Center in Georgetown.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Toyana Knight and Dorian Armstrong, both of Clarksville; three daughters, Quanleh Knight and Raven Knight, both of Clarksville, and Vernetta Knight of Dover; three brothers, Ronald Hall of Clarksville, Everett Halt of Dover and Douglas Showell of Millsboro; nine grandchildren; four uncles; three aunts; several nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service at Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Rev. Peggy Briggs will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Arrangement are made by the Lewis N. Watson Funeral Haute in Salisbury.
Johann E. Cook, 60
WILMINGTON - Johann E. Cook of Wilmington died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, after a short battle with cancer. She was 60.
Ms. Cook was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Roger and Eunice Hall.
She attended the Mount Pleasant School District until 1958.
She worked for Acme Markets for more than 25 years.
Ms. Cook was a member of the Retail Clerks Union. She was a facilitator at the Delaware Mental Health Association, where she received its Service Award for 2000.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn L of Wilmington; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Bea of Hartly; three grandchildren, Kevin Jr., Jennifer and Robert, all of Hartly; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Lee Hall of Palm City, Fla.; two nieces Samantha "Sam" and Ashley, both of Palm City; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and very good friends.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beeson Memorial Services of North Wilmington, 412 Philadelphia Pike, where friends may call after 9 a.m.
Committal service will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to: the Delaware Mental Health Association, 1813 North Franklin St., Wilmington, DE 19802.
Clifford Wayne Faircloth, 83
GOLDSBORO, N.C. - Lt. Col. U.S.A.F. (retired) Clifford Wayne Faircloth of Goldsboro died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in his home. He was 83.
Lt. Col. Faircloth was a native of Cumberland County, the son of the late Alexander and Rebecca Melvin Faircloth.
He was a pilot with the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Faircloth was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, the Goldsboro Eastern Star, Alliance of Retired Military and the Union 7 Masonic Lodge in Dover.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Bain Faircloth; two daughters, Kathie Bannister of Fremont and Diane Faircloth of Hartly, Del.; a son, C. Wayne Faircloth Jr., and his wife, Paula, of Berlin, Md.; two sisters, Ethelene Krauss of Seaford, Del., and Margery Ryan of Wilmington, Del.; a brother, Bill Faircloth of Moore Haven, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, Goldsboro, with the Rev. McGee Creech officiating. A memorial service will also be held in Delaware at a later date.
The family will receive friends following the service.

Dora E. 'Toots' Hazzard, 87
SMYRNA - Dora E. "Toots" Hazzard of Smyrna died Monday, March 5, 2001, in her home. She was 87.
Mrs Hazzard was born in Shelton, Neb., and moved to California, where she married her late husband, L.V. "Hap"' Hazzard, in 1944.
While her husband was serving in the Air Force, they also resided in Alabama, Pennsylvania, New York and Japan prior to his transfer to Dover Air Force Base in 1957.
Mrs. Hazzard retired from Canteen Corp. in 1975.
She loved baking and cooking for her family and friends.
Mrs. Hazzard was a founding member of Peace Lutheran Church, Smyrna, and a member of the L.W.M.L.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger L. and Nancy Hazzard of Dover; a daughter, Sandra L. O'Hedy of Smyrna; a sister, Ruby Pope of Ravenna, Neb.; four grandchildren, Christopher Hazzard of St Louis, Katie Borntreger of Marietta, Ga., Debbie O'Hedy, of Hartly and Joel Hazzard of Smyrna.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Lawrence M. Laber Sr., 75
MIDDLETOWN - Lawrence M. Laber Sr. of Middletown, formerly of Ridley Park, Pa., died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in his home. He was 75.
Mr. Laber was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served aboard mine sweepers US 419 and US 461.
He retired in 1995 from Phoenix Steel as an electrical supervisor.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice M. Laber; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence Jr. and Barbara of Newark and Charles and Susan of Florida; two daughters, Kim Polifroni, and her husband, Joe, of Middletown, and Paula DuPont of North Carolina; two sisters, Carol McFadden of Prospect Park, Pa., and Catherine Smith of Fort Pierce Fla., and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 8 p.m. Friday at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be private.

Myrtle D. Messick, 92
GEORGETOWN - Myrtle D. Messick of Georgetown died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 92.
Mrs. Messick was born in Georgetown, the daughter of the late Mary Swain and Albert H. Messick.
She and her late husband were retired from the DuPont Co. in Seaford.
Mrs. Messick was a member of Cokesbury Church and a charter member of the Nanticoke Homemakers Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred P. Messick, in 1983.
She is survived by many caring nieces, nephews and devoted friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Cokesbury Cemetery, Georgetown.
