Juanita L. Davis Savage, 53
PITTSVILLE, Md. - Juanita L. Davis Savage, of Pittsville, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She was 53.
Mrs. Savage born in Milford, Del., the daughter of the late Earl C. and Mildred J. Smith Wells.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin Davis, a second husband, William Savage, and a sister, Mildred Jeanette Stephson.
She is survived by a son, Alvin Davis, of Pittsville; two daughters, Sandra Truitt, of Parsonsburg, and Crystal Davis, of Pittsville; five brothers, Earl Wells, of Princess Anne, Frank Wells, of Willards, Ben Wells, of Georgetown, Del., William Wells, of Pittsville, and Phillip Wells, of North Carolina; two sisters, Jean Chandler, of Powellville, and Meg Howe, of Philadelphia; a stepbrother, Jimmy Truitt, of Willards: and 10 grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to service. The Rev. Paul Sherwood will officiate.
Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro.

Nancy M. Schulz, 70
CECILTON, Md. - Nancy M. Schulz, of Cecilton, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Union Hospital, Elkton. She was 70.
Miss. Schulz was born Dec. 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Frederick and Marie Johnston Schulz.
She has been a resident of Earleton Village since 1989 moving from Yeadon, Pa.
Miss Schulz was a member of the Lower Cecil County Senior Citizens and Wards Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Warren Miller, of Port Richey, Fla.; a nephew and his wife, Steven W. and Ann Miller, and a great- niece and nephew, Caryl and Steven R. Miller, both of Tabernacle, N.J.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be private in Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall, Pa.

Harry W. Towers, 83
HOUSTON - Harry W. Towers, of Houston, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in Milford Center, Milford. He was 83.
Mr. Towers graduated from the Southern Police Institution at the University of Louisiana.
He was with the Wilmington Police Department for 20 years, retiring as an inspector in 1960, after which he served 14 years as Acting Commissioner for the Delaware State Board of Correction in Smyrna. Upon leaving that position, Mr. Towers was employed by the City of Milford as building inspector in the early 1970's and then as city manager from 1978-79.
Mr. Towers was a member of the Houston United Methodist Church, Eureka-DuPont Lodge 23-29 A.F.&A.M., Kent & Sussex Scottish Rite Club, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a life member of the Shield & Square Club of Delaware and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies in Valley of Wilmington
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret E. Towers, in 1998.
He is survived by a son, H. Wesley Towers Jr. and his wife, Sara W., of Harrington; two grandchildren, David W. Towers and his wife, Patti, of Roanoke, Ala., and Laura E. Towers, of Georgetown, and a great-granddaughter, Ann Marie Towers, of Roanoke.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Richard J. Woznicki, 78
MILLSBORO - Richard J. Woznicki, of Millsboro, formerly of Wilmington, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 78.
Mr. Woznicki was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Wilmington, the son of the late William J. and Rosie K. Woznicki.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Woznicki was a retired machinist for E.I. DuPont Co.'s Newport plant with over 30 years of service.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 19 of Laurel.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary, in 1985.
He is survived by his second wife, Loretta; a son, William J.; two stepsons, Jerry Frail and Jimmy Kokoszka; a brother, Lawrence; a nephew, Jerry; and a grandchildren Kristen, Katie, Jerry Jr., and Jessica.
Service will be noon Wednesday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
Jessie Flourine (Marks) Alviset, 76
SEAFORD - Jessie Flourine (Marks) Alviset of Seaford, formerly of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. She was 76.
Mrs. Alviset was born June 5, 1930, in Schenectady, N.Y., the daughter of the late, Jesse and Oneita (Seeley) Marks.
She was a homemaker who loved working with children, and had a daycare in her home in Saratoga Springs for 12 years before retiring and moving to Milford.
She enjoyed caring for the plants in her daughter's greenhouse.
Mrs. Alviset was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Seaford, and a former active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Milford.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Lloyd B. Alviset of Seaford; a son, Timothy Alviset of Milford; two daughters, Pamela Alviset of Harrington and Charlene Mabb of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; a brother, Kenneth Marks of Argyle, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Kimberly and David Mabb Jr, both of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., where friends may call one hour prior.
Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

George 'Pete' G. Betton, 77
MILLSBORO - George "Pete" G. Betton of Millsboro died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 77.
Mr. Betton was born in Denton, Md., the son of the late, William and Eunice Rogers Betton.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He retired as vice president of Farm Credit in Dover in 1988 after 28 years of service.
Mr. Betton was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Millsboro, the Lions Club, the Nur Temple Shrine Club, Wilmington, The Franklin Masonic Lodge, A.F. and A.M., Georgetown, and was a former scoutmaster of Troop 89, Millsboro.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Loo Valliant Betton; a son, George G. Betton Jr., and his wife, Valarie, of Millsboro; two daughters Kathy Betton Ellis, and her husband, Rick, of Hockessin, and Gail Betton Kelso; a close friend, Jane Turpin of Millsboro; a brother, William Betton of Denton, Md.; a sister, Mary Francis Liden of Seaford; and four grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to service. The Rev. Dr. James C. Van Wall will officiate.
Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery.

Alfred Palmer Corey, 76
BRIDGEVILLE - Alfred Palmer Corey, a lifetime farmer of Bridgeville, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He was 76.
He was the son of the late Alfred R. and Mary Palmer Corey.
Mr. Corey was a member of Union United Methodist Church, the Hiram Lodge 21, A. F. & A. M., and the Seaford Golf and Country Club. He served as president of the Bridgeville Lions Club and chairman of the Farm Service Agency. Mr. Corey also served as a member of the University of Delaware Agriculture Visiting Committee. He was honored in 1994 as the recipient of the University of Delaware Service to Agriculture Award, and in 1997 was awarded by the Sussex County Farm Bureau as Farm Family of the Year.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta C. Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Nanette Carey Corey, of Bridgeville; a son, Douglas P. Corey, and his wife, Laura, of Bridgeville; a daughter, Suzanne C. Moore, and her husband, Ronnie, of Rehoboth Beach; two sisters, Evelyn C. Bell of Seaford and Alfrieda C. Gardner of Lebanon, Pa.; a granddaughter, Ashley Corey of Bridgeville; two nephews; and four nieces.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Union United Methodist Church, Laws and Market Streets, Bridgeville, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Willie James Fogle, 40
LINCOLN - Willie James Fogle of Lincoln died of heart failure Friday, March 30, 2001, in his home. He was 40.
Mr. Fogle was born Oct. 29, 1960, in Orangeburg, S.C.
He was a member of New Birth Deliverance Prophetic Church, Milford, where he served on the choir and was an usher.
He is survived by a brother, James Lee Fogle; and four sisters, Suzie Foreman and Ernestine Fogle, both of Ellendale, and Tammi Fogle and Pamela Fogle, both of Milford.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at Young's Funeral Home, Milford.
A service will be held at noon Saturday at the New Birth Deliverance Prophetic Church, Milford.
Burial will be private.
Benjamin E. 'Ben' Freeman, 71
DOVER - Benjamin E. "Ben" Freeman of Dover died Tuesday, April 3, 2001. He was 71.
Mr. Freeman was born May 27, 1929, in Dover, where he was raised, the son of the late Rev. Thomas E. Freeman and Delia Lewis Freeman.
He later relocated to Wilmington.
He received Christ at an early age at Union Missionary Baptist Church, Dover.
He attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and William Henry High School, both in Dover.
Mr. Freeman was a veteran of World War II.
He was the president of the Traveling Lights Quartet, and he and his former wife, Gerald O. Freeman, also became charter members of the First Pilgrim Baptist Church, Camden, where he served as chairman deacon for a number of years. He was actively involved in local politics and civil-rights issues while living in Dover. He was a member of the NAACP, Concerned Citizens of Dover and the Community Action Agency.
When he relocated to Wilmington, as a self-employed entrepreneur, he continued to be active in community affairs. He served as executive director of Neighborhood House and was a candidate for state representative in the state's 3rd District.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Eva Freeman, Joseph T. Freeman, Dennis Freeman, Beatrice Freeman Edwards, Titus Freeman and Zaccheus Freeman.
He is survived by a devoted friend, Mamie Freeman of Wilmington; a daughter, Bettye J. Freeman of Alexandria, Va.; a grandson, Charles Freeman of Alexandria; a stepson, Eric Stephens of Wilmington; four foster children, Elaine Martin, William Gibbs, Berkley Dickerson and Josephine Dickerson, all of Dover; their spouses and children, all of Dover; seven brothers, Augustine Freeman and the Rev. Monroe Freeman, both of Camden, Andrew Freeman and Anthony Freeman, both of Dover, Timothy Freeman of Colonial Heights, Md., Freeman T. Freeman of Rochester, N.Y., and Morris Freeman of Hartly; two sisters, Bishop Doreina C. Miles of Dover and Della F. Scott of Washington, D.C.; their spouses and children; and a host of other relatives.

Thuran Bensing Games, 85
MILFORD - Thuran Bensing Games of Milford died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 85.
Mr. Games was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Milford Neck, son of the late Leroy and Emma (Sockum) Games.
He was reared and educated in Camden, N.J.
He worked at General Motors, the DuPont plant in Seaford, the Sunship building, the Maryland Dry Dock, the Baldwin Locomotive Co., and retired in 1978 from Bell Telephone Co., after more than 22 years of service.
Mr. Games was a member of the John Wesley United Church, Milford, where he served as chairman of the trustee board, keeper of the cemetery records, in maintenance, and as trustee emeritus. He also was a member of AARP, the Nanticoke Indian Association, the Milford Senior Center, the Frederica Adult Center and the Million Mile Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen V. Mosley Games; a sister, Mary Robinson of Lawnside, N.J.; and three brothers, John and Charles Games, both of Pennsauken, N.J., and Joseph Games of Newark.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at John Wesley United Church, Milford Neck Road, Milford, where friends may call two hours prior to the ceremony. The Rev. Dr. Yvonne Brunson will officiate.
Burial will be in John Wesley Cemetery.

Joyce Lorraine Hudson Johnson, 72
FRANKFORD - Joyce Lorraine Hudson Johnson of Frankford died peacefully of leukemia Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in her home. She was 72.
She was born and raised in Frankford, daughter of the late Rollin L. Hudson Sr. and Marjorie Furman Hudson.
She was a 1946 graduate of the former John M. Clayton High School.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed her daily communications with area shut-ins and friends.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Chapter 12 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Frankford, and Frankford United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by two younger sisters, Barbara Jean Hudson McQuay in 1950 and Karen Lee Hudson Brewington in 1991.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Walton A. Johnson Sr.; a son, Walton A. Johnson Jr. of Frankford; a daughter-in-law, Janet Lee Challman Johnson of Frankford; three grandchildren, Michelle Lee Johnson Truitt of Millsboro, Walton A. Johnson, III of Milford, and Ellen Lorraine Johnson of Frankford; and a brother, Rollin L. Hudson Jr. of Frankford.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Frankford United Methodist Church, 2 Main St. The Rev. Reed M. Stewart will officiate.
Burial will be in the Carey's Cemetery, Frankford.

Wilbur Thomas 'Tom' Patrick Jr., 64
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Wilbur Thomas "Tom" Patrick Jr. of Chestertown died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, from complications of surgery. He was 64.
Mr. Patrick was born Sept. 28, 1936, in Chestertown, son of the late Wilbur T. Patrick Sr. and Edith Leddon Patrick.
He was a 1954 graduate of Chestertown High School.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy, where he trained to be a medical corpsman. He served aboard the USS Hornet traveling to Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines. He also was stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital.
Upon his honorable discharge in 1957, he returned to Chestertown.
He worked for the Campbell Soup Co., Chestertown, the William Underwood Co., Dover, Del., and later became a web offset printing pressman for Reynolds & Reynolds (formerly Eastern (Baltimore) Business Forms), Chestertown, for 19 years. He retired due to health-related issues in 1992.
Always interested in sports, he played softball for several teams in the Chestertown area. He later became manager for the Baltimore Business Forms and the Austin Carpet softball teams. He coached Little League baseball and football.
He also was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Maryland Terps and Baltimore Ravens.
Mr. Patrick was a member of the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36 and the Chester River Yacht and Country Club, where he loved to play golf.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Sparks Patrick of Chestertown; two sons, Wilbur Thomas Patrick III of Philadelphia and Michael C. Patrick of Chestertown; a daughter, Laura C. Baxter of Chestertown; three grandchildren, Robbi Thomas Patrick, Christina Lynn Baxter and T.J. Baxter, all of Chestertown; and a brother, Calvin A. Patrick of Chestertown.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Francis 'Frank' Pitts, 30
DOVER - Francis "Frank" Pitts of Dover died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Del. 9 just north of Little Creek. He was 30.
Mr. Pitts was born Oct. 4, 1970, in Wilmington.
He worked at Air Base Carpet Mart, South Little Creek Road, Dover, for nine years, where he sold and installed carpets.
He enjoyed playing billiards, was an avid Eagles fan, and played softball.
Mr. Pitts was a member of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by his mother, Deborah Miller of Dover; his grandfather, Ropey Hand; his stepfather and his wife, James and Donna Miller of Dover; three sisters, Virginia Chapman and her husband, James, of Dover, Debbie Richardson and her husband, Tony, of Dover, and Jammie Miller of Dover; a brother, Thomas Miller of Middletown; four nephews; three nieces; and numerous friends from Little Creek and the fire department.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.

Mary V. Thompkins Predeoux, 71
FRANKFORD - Mary V. Thompkins Predeoux of Frankford died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md. She was 71.
Mrs. Predeoux was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Chester, Pa., daughter of the late Robert Thompkins and Clara Tull.
She was a licensed registered nurse at Emily P. Bissell Hospital, Elsmere, where she retired after 22 years of service.
Mrs. Predeoux was an active member of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, Bishopville, Md., where she served as class leader, a member of the Missionary Society and a Sunday school teacher. She also participated in the "Save The Youth Program" at the church. She was a loving and caring person for her family, her church and her friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Predeoux; a son, Shayne Thompkins; a sister, Laura Thompkins; and two brothers, Robert and Alfred Thompkins.
She is survived by nine children, Shawn Thompkins of Dale City, Va., Larry Predeoux of Wilmington, Priscilla Holland of Delmar, Md., Diane Holland of Salisbury, Md., Peggy Bratten of Dover, George Predeoux of Frankford, David Predeoux of Millsboro, Fulton Predeoux of Frankford and Madeline Griffin of Milford; an aunt, Mabel Warick of Chester; two daughters-in-law, Irma Jean Predeoux and Michelle Thompkins; a son-in-law, the Rev. Elmer Bratten; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
A service will be held at noon Saturday at Calvary Pentecostal Church, Worcester Highway, Bishop, Md., where friends may call two hours prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be in Curtis Cemetery, Bishop.

Ann Marie Stathem Wilkins, 40
DOVER - Ann Marie Stathem Wilkins of Dover died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 40.
Mrs. Wilkins was born Jan. 20, 1961, in Denver, daughter of Frank and Sherle Stathem of Raymore, Mo.
Being the daughter of a federal civil servant for the military, the family moved often during her childhood. She lived many places including Grandview, Mo., Colorado Springs, Colo., and Karlsruhe, Germany, where she first met her husband, Peter "P.J." Wilkins.
She attended Ecoloa Bible College, Cannon Beach, Ore., Capernwray Bible School, Sweden, and Taylor University, Upland, Ind.
Mrs. Wilkins worked as a nanny in Manchester, England, and in the Washington, D.C, area as a legal secretary.
Among her many interests and talents were drawing, gardening, crafts and sewing. Her last endeavor was learning to fly, and had recently soloed.
She was a member of Lacey (Wash.) Baptist Chapel.
In addition to her husband of three years, she is survived by a stepdaughter, Michele Wilkins of Dover; a brother, Ross Stathem of Silver Spring, Md.; and a sister, Erin Armstrong of Olympia, Wash.
A service was held Wednesday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.
Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo.
