Alice R. Phillips, 73
DOVER - Alice R. Phillips of Dover died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 73.
Mrs. Phillips was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Riverdale, N.Y., the daughter of the late George and Ethel Lytle Roeder.
She was an elementary school teacher and worked for Town Point Elementary School, in the Capitol School District, and for other local schools. She retired in 1985.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dover, where she had been involved in various offices. She was also a member of the American Baptist Women Ministries, the Dover Century Club and the Read Aloud program.
She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Charles W. Phillips of Dover; three sons, Bruce D. Phillips and Jeffery A. Phillips, both of Dover, and Lloyd Phillips of Missoula, Mont.; two daughters, Carol R Hall of Missoula and Susan Lovelace of Lemon Grove, Calif.; three sisters, Ethel Merget of Pennsylvania, Ruth Vanderslice of Lacey, Wash., and Dorothy Morrissey of Davis, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Dover, Walker Road, Dover, where friends may call one-hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Margaret L. 'Peggy' Shetzler, 64
MIDDLETOWN - Margaret L. "Peggy" Shetzler of Middletown died Monday, March 5, 2001, in her home. She was 64.
Mrs. Shetzler was a graduate of Goldey Beacon College.
She worked for Delaware Trust Co. for 17 years.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Francis F. Shetzler; a daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" Lieske, and her husband, Benny; a sister, Joan Slaughter of Townsend; a brother, George Lawrence of Middletown; and three grandsons, Brett, Andrew and Alex, all of Middletown.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery.

Dorothy Rosemond Smith, 87
SMYRNA - Dorothy Rosemond Smith of Smyrna died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in the Delaware Hospital For The Chronically Ill in Smyrna. She was 87.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker all her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otho Smith, in March 1985.
She is survived by two brothers, H. Merritt Harrison of Aberdeen, Md., and Calvin E. Harrison of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Iva Pardoe of Baltimore; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be noon today in Bozman Methodist Cemetery, Bozman, Md.
Burial will follow the service.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Laurel Fire Co., Laurel, DE 19956.

Elizabeth J. Smith, 78
MILLSBORO - Elizabeth J. Smith of Millsboro died Monday, March 5, 2001, in his home. She was 78.
Mrs. Smith was born in Millsboro, the daughter of the late George T. and Ella Moore Johnson.
She was a secretary at the Seaford DuPont Nylon Plant for 41 years, retiring in 1983.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Millsboro, where she was active with the church's United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Smith, in 1996, after 46 years of marriage.
She is survived by two brothers, Granville L. Johnson of Laurel and Richard C. Johnson of Millsboro; a sister, Ruth J. Hudson of Millsboro; four nephews; two nieces; four grandnephews; and nine grandnieces.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro. The Rev. Dr. James C. Van Der Wall will officiate.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro.
The family suggests contributions to the Grace U.M. Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 566, Millsboro, DE 19966.

Margaret Tas, 88
GEORGETOWN - Margaret Tas of Georgetown died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 88.
Mrs. Tas was born Sept. 2, 1912, in Franklin, N.J.
She liked to do gardening, and enjoyed taking walks and made many afghans and needlework.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Jalot Sr. and John Galot.
She is survived by her husband, Louis Tas of Georgetown; three children, Marie Ann Tas of Georgetown, Marguerite Irvolino of Paterson, N.J., and Richard Tas of Highland Village, Texas; four grandchildren, Denise Mark and Darnell Garcia of Ringwood, N.J., and Toni Irvolino and Anthony Irvolino, both of Paterson, N.J.; and two great-grandsons, Robert Mark and Jack Mark.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 202 Edward St., Georgetown.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

Rachel Boston Wright, 86
PONDTOWN, Md. - Rachel Boston Wright, longtime resident of Pondtown, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2001, in Magnolia Hall Nursing Center, Chestertown, following a lengthy illness. She was 86.
Mrs. Wright was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Caroline County. She was the forth child born to Henry and Adelaid Thomas Boston.
Her childhood was greatly influenced by the family's involvement in Sunday School and worship services at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Caroline County.
Mrs. Wright was educated at the public schools of Caroline County, attended Lockerman High School and graduated with the first four-year class in 1933.
As an adult, she resided in Pondtown, Queen Anne's County, bore and raised a son, William Standford, and married Henry Allen Wright.
She became an active member and officer of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, served as president of the Women's Society for Christian Service and the United Methodist Women's organization. She also worked in the community as a committed Girl Scout leader and member of the Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital Auxiliary.
She loved to cook, chat and do handcrafting and .needlework. She enjoyed baseball games and church activities.
Mrs. Wright worked for Leeds Travel in Clayton, Del., and with her sister Gladys in her Wilmington based watering service. Rachel was a caregiver to many, including her husband and his parents, Elizabeth and Henry Wright Sr., caring for each of them until their death.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
She is survived by an adopted son, Dana Kennedy; two stepchildren, Ann Arlington and Gregory Wright; and two granddaughters, Nicole and Trina Standford.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Pondtown, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m.

Charles C. Marker, 95
DOVER - Charles C. Marker of Dover died Monday, March 3, 2003, in Capitol Healthcare Services, Dover. He was 95.
Mr. Marker was born Feb. 5, 1908, in Viola, son of the late William C. and Cora Lena (Peterson) Marker.
He was a pioneer in the poultry industry on the Eastern Shore as the owner, president and chairman of the board of Marker's Poultry Farms and Hatchery in Dover for more than 70 years.
He served the poultry industry and his community in many capacities. In 1942 and 1943, he was president of the Delaware Poultry Improvement Association. He also served as director of the Northeastern Poultry Producers Council, served on the National Farm Bureau Federation Poultry Committee, the Eastern Shore Hatcherymen's Association and a member of the Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc. He received many awards, including the Delaware Roadside Improvement Council Award, and the DPI Distinguished Citizen Award.
Mr. Marker was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Dover Kiwanis Club for more than 50 years, and served on the board of directors for Kent General Hospital, In 1989, he was awarded a lifetime membership in Kiwanis International and in July 2002 was awarded the prestigious George F. Hixson Fellowship Award.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Frebert Haddock; two brothers, William Henry Marker and Harry N. Marker; and two sisters, Neillie Marker and Emily Marker.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marian R. (Shackell) Marker of Dover; a son, Curtis C. Marker of Dover; three grandsons and their wives, Michael C. and Diane Frebert of Dover, Craig C. and Nancy Marker of Townsend, and Kevin S. and Kelly Marker of Ashland, Va.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Karen M. Frebert-Szymczak and Rob Szymczak of Midlothian, Va., and Jody L. and Julio Garcia of Newark; and eight great-grandchildren.
Remembrance services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Jeremiah II Projects of Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover and/or to a charity of one's choice.
