Phoebe G. Donovan, 89
FRUITLAND, Md. - Phoebe G. Donovan of Fruitland, formerly of Milton, Del., died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in the home of her daughter. She was 89.
Mrs. Donovan was born in Millsboro, Del., daughter of the late Williad S. and Nora (Downs) Coffin.
She worked for the Fred Myers Brush Factory for 21 years.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and flowers.
Mrs. Donovan attended the First Baptist Church of Fruitland and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxilary Unit 7. She was also a member and Past President of the Milton Veterans of Forigen Wars Ladies Auxiliary Broadkill Post 6984.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred L. Dorey Jr.; two sons, A. Lee Dorey III and Joseph L. Dorey; her second husband, Reuben Donovan, in 1945; and 18 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Eugene Cecil of Fruitland, Ruby and Dennis Bowers of Ambler, Pa., and Ann and Stephen vonBonin of Hartly, Del.; a son and daughter-in-law, Reuben and Norma Donovan of Milton; a brother, Howard Coffin of Millsboro; 11 grandchildren, Gene Cecil, Tammy Brown, Sandy Meyers, Kimberly Buse, Michael Reynolds, Debbie Jones, Marsha Walstenhome, Bevery Parker, Brian Donovan, Wendy Crump, and Amy Cottrell; 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Broadkill Post 6984, PO Box 335, Milton, DE 19968.

Carolyn E. Green, 47
BURRISVILLE, Md. - Carolyn E. Green of Burrisville died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 47.
Services will be 1 p.m. today in Community Baptist Church, Barclay, Md. The Rev. William Ward will officiate.
Burial will be in Male and Female Beneficial Cemetery in Burrisville.

Rose M. Hammond, 66
MILFORD - Rose M. Hammond of Milford died of natural causes Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 66.
Mrs. Hammond was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Jack and Margaret (Boyle) O'Brien.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, James E. Davis of Felton; four daughters, Elaine Hudson of Harrington, Margaret Beach and Eleanor Tunis, both of Milford, and Andrea Hammond of Felton; a stepdaughter, Dawn Hammond of North Carolina; a stepson, Wesley Hammond of Milford; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel.
Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, near Frederica.

William Paul Harris, 74
MILLSBORO - William Paul Harris of Millsboro, formerly of Baltimore, died of complications of cancer Friday, March 7, 2003, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 74.
Mr. Harris was born in Bakersville, N.C., son of the late Jeter and Ada McNeal Harris.
He served in the U.S. Army's 11th Airborne Division during the occupation of Japan, beginning in 1946.
He was an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 24, Baltimore, for 31 years, retiring in 1988.
Mr. Harris was a member of the 11th Airborne Division and of the Quillen's Point Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7234 in Ocean View.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved mother-in-law, Elsie Wagner.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Wagner Harris; three sons, William E. Harris of Baltimore, Gary M. Harris of Ocean View and Lawrence P. Harris of Dagsboro; two daughters, Gloria T. Cruz of Millsboro and Barbara A. Palmisano of Dagsboro; two brothers, Brown A. Harris of Freeland, Mich., and Roy G. Harris of Halifax, Pa.; and 14 grandchildren, Russell Harris, Wendy Harris, Michael Harris, Chelsea Harris, Kathryn Harris, Cody Harris, Christopher Cruz, Danielle Cruz, Michael Cruz, Sara Cruz, Tina Palmisano, Craig Edick, David Edick and Amber Edick.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Sunday and from 7-9 p.m. Monday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro.
Services will be noon Tuesday in the funeral home, where friends also may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriots Way, near Millsboro.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803-0163.

Charles Johnson, 69
PHILADELPHIA - Charles Johnson of Philadelphia, and formerly of Rock Hall, Md., died Monday, March 3, 2003, in his home. He was 69.
Services will be 1 p.m. today in Aaron Chapel United Methodist Church in Rock Hall.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Sherren Ross, 65
BETHANY BEACH - Sherren Ross of Bethany Beach, formerly of Annapolis, Md., died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in her home. She was 65.
Mrs. Ross was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Ross Jr., in 1997.
She is survived by a son, Lloyd Ross; a daughter, Jennifer Pavik; four brothers, Wendel, Basil, Murr, and Russell; four sisters, Paula, Bonnie, Betty, and Christina; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue in Ocean View.
Burial will be in St. George's Cemetery, Clarksville.

Richard Dale Thawley, 88
LAUREL - Richard Dale Thawley of Laurel died of natural causes Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 88.
Mr. Thawley was born in Laurel, son of the late Frank Wesley and Julia Boyce Thawley.
He graduated from Laurel High School in 1932.
Mr. Thawley proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the 85th Infantry Division in Africa and Italy. He received the Purple Heart with cluster, a Bronze Star and a Good Conduct Medal.
He worked as a purchasing agent for ChrisCraft Boat manufacturing in Salisbury, at Burton Chevrolet and at CGS (The Spirit Shop) in Seaford.
Mr. Thawley was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Laurel, the Laurel Alumni Association, American Legion Post 19 in Laurel and the Military Order of the Purple Heart of Delaware.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harlan Thawley; and a sister, Ann Thawley.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Lowe Thawley; a daughter and son-in-law, Julia "Judy" Thawley Vickers and Steven H. Vickers of Laurel; a brother, John C. Thawley of Seaford; two grandsons, Steven L. Vickers of Newark and Brian R. Vickers of Laurel; and three nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Short Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Fred Duncan and the Rev. Barbara Wilson will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Christ United Methodist Church, 510 S. Central Ave., Laurel, DE 19956.

R. Jack Yeomans, 70
FELTON - R. Jack Yeomans of Felton died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. He was 70.
Mr. Yeomans was born in Moultie, Ga., son of the late Arrie and Annie (Johnson) Yeomans.
He served in the United States Navy for 22 years, retiring in 1973 as chief boatswain's mate. He served three tours in Vietnam and one tour in Korea during his distinguished military career.
Mr. Yeomans enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Yeomans; and a sister, Dorothy Yeomans.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dale Elaine (Smith) Yeomans; two sons, Roy J. Yeomans II and Bryan J. Yeomans, both of Felton; two daughters, Myko Smith of Kennewick, Wash. and Kaeko Rorie of San Antonio, Texas; a stepson, Michael Stewart of Greenwood, a brother and his wife, Stewart and Bonnie Yeomans of Felton; a sister and her husband, Wilma and John Theis of Laurel; two foster sons, Tim Habich and Joe Habich; his mother and father-in-law, Amos and Shirley Jones; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Milford, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Sunday in Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 9 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

Howard Warneke Jr., 88
REHOBOTH BEACH - Howard Warneke Jr. of Rehoboth Beach died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in Harrison House, Georgetown. He was 88.
Mr. Warneke was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He retired in 1980 after 34 years of service in the baking industry, first with the Anheiser-Busch Bakery Division and then with Frank A. Serio Bakers Supply.
He enjoyed gardening and walks on the beach, and loved to be with children.
Mr. Warneke was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Rehoboth Beach, and a member of the American Legion, Rehoboth Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Mary Linton Warneke of Rehoboth Beach; a daughter, M. Beaven of Lusby, Md.; a sister, Helen Shea of Baltimore; a brother, C. Irving Warneke of Reisterstown, Md.; and two grandchildren, Emma E. Beaven and M. Alana Beaven.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach.
Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior Memorial Fund, Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
