Master Sgt. Darrell Donyel Aldridge, 39
CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Master Sgt. Darrell Donyel Aldridge of Cambridge died Friday, March 2, 2001, in Cambridge. He was 39.
Master Sgt. Aldridge was born April 15, 1961, in Cambridge, the son of Clayton and the late Angeline Aldridge.
He graduated from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School in 1979. He then attended aviation school in Oklahoma City and graduated in 1982.
Master Sgt. Aldridge then joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for 19 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Lauren Aldridge of Fort Washington; two sisters, Tanna Cornish and Shene Chester of Cambridge; four brothers, James D. Chester of Bowie, Terry Aldridge and Gregory Aldridge, both of Rhodesdale, and Byron Chester of Washington, D.C.; a brother-in-law, Montro Cornish of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Sharon Chester of Bowie; four aunts; an uncle; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Cambridge.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Arlington (Va.) Memorial Park.

Thelma R. Broyles, 72
MILFORD - Thelma R. Broyles of Milford died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in her home. She was 72.
Mrs. Broyles began her career as a switchboard operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Harrington.
After moving to Milford, she was employed as a secretary for Wilbert Vault Co., retiring in 1995 after 30 years of service. She then took a job as clerk with the Medicine Shoppe, Milford, until her recent illness.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar Broyles; a son, Jimmy E. Broyles of Milford; two daughters, Debbie Broyles of Lincoln and Chris Austin of Milford; three grandchildren, Amy Culver and her husband, Chad, of Milton, Brian Broyles of Newark and Dustin Broyles of Chestertown, Md.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a favorite charity.

Margaret Rogers Darlin, 73
MILFORD - Margaret Rogers Darlin of Milford died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in her home. She was 73.
Mrs. Darlin was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late William Hale and Lillian Byar (Moore) Links.
She was raised on the family farm in Oxford, Ohio, and was an accomplished pianist in her early years. Mrs. Darlin co-owned the Milford Rental Center along with her husband, Lewis R. Darlin Jr., from 1988 to 1998. Prior to that, she worked for J.C. Penney for eight years, until the store closed, and at L.D. Caulk, Milford, for seven years.
She loved going to the beach and enjoyed sailing in her younger years. She was an artist and especially loved drawing. She was a devoted mother to her four sons and loved animals.
Mrs. Darlin was a former member of the Delaware Ballet, Dover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Lewis R. Darlin Jr., in 1998.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Al "Sandy" and Pat Darlin of Milford, David and Marcia Darlin of Hong Kong, Jeff and Barbara Darlin of Swarthmore, Pa., and Greg and Suzane Darlin of Frederick, Md.; a sister, Eunice Murphy of Hamilton, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and two great granddaughters.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the SPCA, 326 S. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 18947.

Harry Dodd Embert, 80
CHURCH HILL, Md. - Harry Dodd Embert of Church Hill died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 80.
Mr. Embert was born Feb. 4, 1921, in Chestertown, the son of the late William Edward and Elizabeth Hall Embert.
Following the deaths of his parents at an early age, he was raised by his grandparents.
He attended school in Kent County.
Mr. Embert served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart. He served his country in Rome, southern France, central Europe and the Rhineland.
After his release from active duty, he returned to the area, married Susie Elizabeth Creighton and began his career with the Cox Distributing Co., where he was manager of oil distribution until his retirement in 1982.
In 1981, he married Margaret Jones and together they enjoyed traveling. He also enjoyed playing golf and playing cards with his Monday Night Card Club.
Mr. Embert was a member of Centreville United Methodist Church, the Prospect Bay Country Club, the Millington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 568, the Jeff Davis Post of the American Legion and the Harrington Moose Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susanne E. Mason of Queen Anne's County; a son, William Norris Embert of Centreville; a stepson, Rick C. Jones of Church Hill; two stepdaughters, Melissa Conner of Church Hill and Wanda Cole of Middletown; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Centreville United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Chesterfeld Cemetery, Centreville.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Centreville United Methodist Church, 608 Church Hill Road, Centreville, MD 21617.

Charles Albert Fletcher, 61
DOVER - Charles Albert Fletcher of Dover died after a sudden illness Tuesday, March 6, 2001. He was 61.
Mr. Fletcher was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of the late John W. and Anna Fletcher.
He was raised in New York City and relocated to Dover in 1994.
Mr. Fletcher graduated from Metropolitan High School, New York City.
He worked as a photographer for Colorwheel and Garden Parks for 35 years.
Mr. Fletcher accepted Christ in 1997 at the First United Church of Gospel and later became a member of First Pilgrim Baptist Church, Camden. He enjoyed reading the holy scripture during Sunday-morning devotion service and remained faithful in the service of the Lord until his death.
He was preceded in death by a wife, Clydine Fletcher, and a brother, John Fletcher Jr.
He is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Fletcher of New York City; three sisters, Anita Fletcher of New York City, Madeline Orr of Philadelphia and Eleanor Gray of Teaneck, N.J.; a dear and trusted friend of 16 years, Wilhelmina Smith, and her children, Michael Brown of Dover, Rodney Smith of New York City, Lauren Hunter of Yonkers, N.Y., and Autumn Smith of Dover, who he cherished as his own; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at First Pilgrim Baptist Church, Camden, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be private.

Dorothy V. Hicks, 89
HARRINGTON - Dorothy V. Hicks of Harrington died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at the Milford Center after a brief illness. She was 89.
Mrs. Hicks was born March 22, 1911, in Maryland.
She attended school in Maryland and Delaware.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Rev. Ernest Hicks in 1936, and moved to Harrington.
Mrs. Hicks worked at various factories in the area until she retired.
She enjoyed reading scripture and singing "Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone."
Mrs. Hicks became a faithful member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church at a very early age, where she served on the choir and as a class leader, deaconess and stewardess. She also was in the Women's Missionary Society.
She is survived by a brother, John Baynard, and his wife, Carole, of Harrington; three nieces, Marian Berkley of Pennsylvania, Vannetta Chase of Felton and Sandra Ryder of Dover; a nephew, Myrtle Dickerson of Dover; two cousins, Margaret Russ, who was her longtime principle caregiver, and Marie Davis, both of Harrington; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul AME Church, Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.

Elder Charles Edward Holland, 51
SALISBURY, Md. - Elder Charles Edward Holland of Salisbury died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in his home. He was 51.
Mr. Holland was born Dec. 10, 1949, in Whaleysville, the son of Levin and Rebecca Holland.
He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School. He received his bachelor of science in social work from Salisbury State University. He served on the Board of Social Services in Wicomico County.
Mr. Holland was employed by Standard Register for 22 years. He established the Holland Lawn Service and worked for it for 10 years.
From 1969 to 1971, he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
Mr. Holland attended the Curtis Methodist Church in his younger years, singing with his family The Hollandneers. He later joined Calvary Pentecostal Church, Bishopville, where he worked faithfully with the Spirit of Joy Gospel Group and the Maryland State Choir. Later, he was ordained a minister and through the leading of God, became founder and pastor of New Hope Pentecostal Assembly.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 31 years, Diana Holland; two sons, Bernard Holland of Delmar and Eric Holland of Salisbury; two daughters-in-law, Lori and Kenyatta; four brothers, Levin Jr., Fulton, Russell and Ward Holland; four sisters, Norma Bishop, Diane Smith, Eunice Leatherbury and Wanda White; an adopted brother, Jessie Watson; three grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, godchildren, church family members and friends.
A service will be held at noon Saturday at the Calvary Pentecostal Church, 113 Worchester Road, Bishop, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
