Phoebe G. Donovan, 90
FRUITLAND, Md. - Phoebe G. Donovan of Fruitland, formerly of Milton, Del., died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in the home of her daughter. She was 90.
Mrs. Donovan was born in Millsboro, Del., daughter of the late Willard S. and Nora (Downs) Coffin.
She worked for the Fred Myers Brush Factory for 21 years.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and flowers.
Mrs. Donovan attended the First Baptist Church of Fruitland and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxilary Unit 7. She was also a member and Past President of the Milton Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Broadkill Post 6984.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred L. Dorey Jr.; two sons, A. Lee Dorey III and Joseph L. Dorey; her second husband, Reuben Donovan, in 1945; and 18 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Eugene Cecil of Fruitland, Ruby Bowers and Dennis of Ambler, Pa., and Ann and Stephen vonBonin of Hartly, Del.; a son and daughter-in-law, Reuben and Norma Donovan of Milton; a brother, Howard Coffin of Millsboro; 11 grandchildren, Gene Cecil, Tammy Brown, Sandy Meyers, Kimberly Buse, Michael Reynolds, Debbie Jones, Marsha Walstenhome, Bevery Parker, Brian Donovan, Wendy Crump, and Amy Cottrell; 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Broadkill Post 6984, PO Box 335, Milton, DE 19968.
R. Jack Yeomans, 70
FELTON - R. Jack Yeomans of Felton died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. He was 70.
Mr. Yeomans was born in Moultie, Ga., son of the late Arrie and Annie (Johnson) Yeomans.
He served in the United States Navy for 22 years, retiring in 1973 as chief boatswain's mate. He served three tours in Vietnam and one tour in Korea during his distinguished military career.
Mr. Yeomans enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Yeomans; and a sister, Dorothy Yeomans.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dale Elaine (Smith) Yeomans; two sons, Roy J. Yeomans II and Bryan J. Yeomans, both of Felton; two daughters, Myko Smith of Kennewick, Wash. and Kaeko Rorie of San Antonio, Texas; a stepson, Michael Stewart of Greenwood, a brother and his wife, Stewart and Bonnie Yeomans of Felton; a sister and her husband, Wilma and John Theis of Laurel; two foster sons, Tim Habich and Joe Habich; his mother and father-in-law, Amos and Shirley Jones; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. today in Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, where friends may call two hours earlier.

J. Edward Breeding Sr., 61
GREENWOOD - J. Edward Breeding Sr. of Greenwood died of complications from heart failure Friday, March 7, 2003, in the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, Md. He was 61.
Mr. Breeding was born in Ridgely, Md., son of the late August F. Breeding and Dorothy Reynolds Breeding.
He retired in 1991 from the Delaware State Highway Department after 29 years. For the past 10 years, he sold produce in Easton and the surrounding counties.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy L. Breeding of Greenwood; a son, John Breeding Jr. and his companion, Vicky McKinney, and a daughter, Shelly Breeding, all of Greenwood; two brothers, Ralph Breeding of Hickman, Md. and Louis Breeding of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Niki, Sherry, Seth and Kaitlin; a great-granddaughter, Destini; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 South Second Street in Denton, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery.

William A. 'Bill' Cross, 71
MIDDLETOWN - William A. 'Bill' Cross of Middletown died Friday March 7, 2003, in his home. He was 71.
Mr. Cross farmed all his life. His family farmed in Holmdel N.J. and operated Cross Brothers Farms, which spanned three generations. He moved to Delaware where he and his father continued farming near Middletown.
He was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the American Cancer Society.
He was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marcia Gant Cross; five children, Leanne Phillips and her husband Jeff of Middletown, Laura Cross of Middletown, William J. "Jack" Cross and his wife Danielle of Newark, Sue Cross of Middletown and Jennifer O'Keefe and her husband Sean of Allentown, N.J.; two sisters, Helen Theurkauf of Glastonbury, Conn. and Maud Kircher of Oceanport, N.J.; a brother, David Cross of Mexico; nine grandchildren, Meghan, Ty and Ian Phillips, John Williams, Jamie and Joey Brancaccio, Gabrielle and Sophia Cross and Liam O'Keefe; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Monday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 292 N. broad street, Middletown.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, West Cochran Street in Middletown.
Burial will be in Old Bohemia Cemetery, Warwick, Md.

George Stansbery Hasenzahl, 85
MILFORD - George Stansbery Hasenzahl of Milford died Thursday, March 6, 2003, in his home. He was 85.
Mr. Hasenzahl was born June 22, 1917 at home on State Street in Flushing N.Y., son of the late George J. and Edith Seaman (Carpenter) Hasenzahl.
In his early years he had many boyhood friends as well as a large and extended family, He enjoyed all sorts of outdoor activities, and was gifted mechanically. He participated in many activities with his father (who was an optometric lens grinder) including carpentry, automobile engine overhauling, and Boy Scouting. The Boy Scouts were a life-long passion for Mr. Hasenzahl and his brother. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout and remained active until he retired from this endeavor. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for his Boy Scout service.
At the onset of World War II he tried multiple times to enlist in the military service, but was recalled for essential wartime work in a machine shop. For many years he was an automobile mechanic with his own repair shop. For the last 10 years of his career he returned to his first occupation as a quality control engineer. He retired in the late 1980s from Oak Industries in Hoosick Falls, N.Y.
His wife of 58 year, Hazel, whom he met in high school, was his only sweetheart. They married on Feb 1, 1941 and were separated only upon her death in 1999. She often remarked upon how diligent he was, and what a good provider he was. He demonstrated this by building three houses himself, that he and his family occupied.
He retired to Delaware in 1987.
Mr. Hasenzahl enjoyed watching his grandchildren mature into adults and attending church. By nature he was a very social person and enjoyed talking and visiting with others.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gordon DeBow Hasenzahl.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Margaret Bowers of Milford; a grandson, Matthew Bowers of Milford; a granddaughter, Amanda Bowers of Milford; a niece, Diane Hasenzahl Forbes of Massachusetts; three nephews and several cousins.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Milford First Baptist Church, Old Shawnee Road, Milford.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the church, where friends many call two hours earlier. The Rev. David Perdue will officiate.
Burial will be in Union Church Cemetery, Milford.

Elenor Leona Hawkins, 70
PONDTOWN, Md. - Elenor Leona Hawkins of Pondtown died Thursday, March 6, 2003. She was 70.
Mrs. Hawkins was born June 24, 1932 in Pondtown, daughter of the late Perry and Emma Brooks.
She received her education in Pondtown and Barclay Md. She received her certification for nursing in Wilmington, Del.
She did patient and home health care and she also worked at Playtex as a production specialist for nine years. She also worked for the Modern Maturity Center as an activity aide for the elderly until she retired.
Mrs. Hawkins was united in holy matrimony to Augustine Hawkins in 1958.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by seven sisters, Shirley Bordley, Mary Brooks, Hilda Jefferson, Helen Carney, Marie Chambers, Pearl Mathis and Gertrude Brooks; and two brothers, Wilbert Brooks and Bradford Bordley.
In addition to her husband she is survived by three sons, Ronald Brooks and Frances Brooks of Dover, Del. and Samuel Brooks of North Carolina; five daughters, Peggy Brooks Ukabi of Washington, DC, Gloria Griffin and Beverly Hawkins of Smyrna, Del. and Janet Hawkins and Ernestine Abrams of Dover, Del.; a daughter-in-law, Denise Brooks; a son-in-law, Gregory Griffin Sr.; eight sisters, Sarah Wright, Gladys Paskins, Edna Walker, Mamie Rochester, Delorse Freeman, Elise Henry, Faye Kennedy and Vivian Garnett; two brothers, Kennard Ashley and Henry Ashley; four brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a very special friend, Iris Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Calvary Assembly of God, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery, Bear.

John G. 'Jack' Kleitz Sr., 73
REHOBOTH BEACH - John G. "Jack'' Kleitz, Sr. of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Wilimington, died after a long illness Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 73.
Mr. Kleitz began his career in the family jewelry business, B. Kleitz & Bro. In 1960, he and his father, the late George Kleitz, opened a Penn Jersey store in New Castle.
His love of cars followed him through his life and he especially enjoyed NASCAR racing. He loved his family and enjoyed having them nearby.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Kleitz.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lois; three sons and daughters-in-law, John Jr. and Sharyn of Lewes, William and Diane and David and Donna, all of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Kathryn, Stacy, William and Michael Kleitz; two great-grandchildren, John James Kleitz and Lexus Wright; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and James Yeatman of West Grove, Pa.; two nephews, Steven and Gerald; and a niece, Jennifer.
Services will be 11:45 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, where friends may call 45 minutes earlier.
