Mabel H. Harrison, 90
DOVER - Mabel H. Harrison of Dover died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Westminster Village Health Care Center, Dover. She was 90.
Mrs. Harrison was born March 23, 1910, in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of the late Frank Durham and Alice Timmons Duncan Durham.
Mrs. Harrison was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Harrison, whom died Aug. 20, 1996.
She is survived by a niece, Betty Bailey of Charlotte, N.C.; special friends, Lee Kelly and Nancy Hart, both of Dover; and several other nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Granby Street, Norfolk, Va.

Edith Olivia Hendricks, 87
REHOBOTH BEACH - Edith Olivia Hendricks of Rehoboth Beach died of heart failure Saturday, Jan. 6. 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Hendricks was a graduate of Kutztown University.
She was a retired schoolteacher who taught in public schools in Newark, Cape Henlopen, Indian River School District and Georgetown Elementary.
Mrs. Hendricks was featured in 1992 by the News Journal as a "Unsung Hero" for her volunteer efforts, and she received a citation from Governor Carper for her participation in retired senior volunteer programs.
She was an avid supporter and leader of the Girl Scouts of America, and an honorary member of Lewes Girl Scout Troop 287.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bayard W. Hendricks, who died in 1984; and her sister, Marjory Fritz, who died in 2000.
She is survived by a son, Bayard W. Hendricks of Lewes; a daughter, Marjory Jane Lloyd of Bear; a sister Mary Jane Schubert of Buffalo, Minn.; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Service will be private.

Margaret J. West Morris, 70
BRIDGEVILLE - Margaret J. West Morris of Bridgeville died of heart failure Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Seaford Center Genesis Elder Care, Seaford.
Mrs. Morris was born in Bridgeville, the daughter of the late Avery and Julia Sammons West.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Alan H. Morris.
She is survived by her husband, George Hall Morris; two sons, Dale L. Morris of Greenwood and Scott West of Delano, Fla.; a daughter, Dixie L. Whaley of Seaford; two brothers, Arthur West of Seaford and Asbury West of Cannon; two sisters, Clara Stayton of Dover and Alice Lord of Harmony, Md.; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford, also where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Blades Cemetery, Blades.
William Auslee Slaughter, 89
OXFORD, Md., - William Auslee Slaughter died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 89.
Mr. Slaughter was married to the late, Cora Mae Greene Slaughter, and they made their home in Oxford.
He is survived by two sons, Harold Slaughter of Clinton, and Earle Slaughter of Easton; a daughter, Carolyn Slaughter of Easton; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Pearl Greene; and a special friend, Marjorie Gray.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Slaughter Jr.; and three daughters Mary C. Slaughter, McKenny Slaughter and Doris John.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Easton, where friends may call from 10-11 a.m.
Evelyn Beatrice Handy Shelton, 83
MILLSBORO - Evelyn Beatrice Handy Shelton of Millsboro died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in her home. She was 83.
Mrs. Shelton was born June 19, 1917, in Berlin, Md., the daughter of the late Bertha G. Selby and Thomas James Handy.
She worked at the Swift Poultry Co. in Georgetown for many years. She retired 15 years ago from the U.S. Postal Service in Millsboro. Whenever you saw her in the post office you were greeted with a loving smile and a kind word. She was also a caretaker for many years at St. Mark's Episcopal Church Parish Hall in Millsboro.
Mrs. Shelton was a lifelong member of Harmony United Methodist Church, belonging to the United Methodist Society. She was a church usher and communion stewardess.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Shelton Sr., in 1977.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, the Rev. John Wesley and Lois Shelton Jr. of Abingdon, Va., and William Sylvester and Audrey Shelton of New Haven, Conn.; a daughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Ronald Geary of Yeadon, Pa.; four sisters, Theodosia H. Irvin of Greenwood, Loretta Handy, Mattie Handy and Josephine Wilson, all of New Haven; two sisters-in-law, Marie Handy and Mildred Shelton of Millsboro; a brother-in-law, Thomas Shelton of Millsboro; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Mary Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Del. 24 in Millsboro.
Burial will be in Harmony Church Cemetery, Millsboro.

Elta Mae Shelton Street, 50
MILLSBORO - Elta Mae Shelton Street of Millsboro died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in her home. She was 50.
Ms. Street was born Jan. 25, 1950, the daughter of the late Evelyn Beatrice Handy Shelton and John Welsey Shelton Sr.
She attended William C. Jason High School in Georgetown before its closing in 1967 and graduated from Sussex Central High.
She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer L. Morgan of Lewes; two brothers and their wives, the Rev. John Wesley and Lois Shelton of Abingdon, Va. and William Sylvester and Audrey Shelton of New Haven, Conn.; a sister and her husband, Elizabeth and Ronald Geary of Yeadon, Pa.; four aunts, Theodosia H. Jody Lynn Shelton, 30
MILLSBORO - Jody Lynn Shelton of Millsboro died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in her home. She was 30.
Ms. Shelton graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven, Conn.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elta Mae Shelton Street.
She is survived by her son, Harold Maurice Harmon Jr.; a sister, Jennifer L. Morgan of Lewes; two uncles and their wives, the Rev. John Wesley and Lois Shelton Jr. of Abingdon, Va. and William Sylvester and Audrey Shelton of New Haven; an aunt and her husband, Elizabeth and Ronald Geary of Yeadon, Pa.

Clement Bason, 84
DOVER - Clement Bason, of Dover, died Friday, April 4, 2003, in his home after a long struggle with cancer. He was 84.
Mr. Bason was born in Smyrna, son of the late Leo and Elizabeth Bason.
He graduated from Smyrna High School.
Mr. Bason began employment with International Playtex in Dover, where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1981.
His career was interrupted with service during World War II in the U.S. Army, 69th Infantry Division, in France and Germany.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife in their motor home and spending summers at the Delaware shore.
Mr. Bason was a member of the Peoples Church of Dover.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Neil D. Bason.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia DuHadaway Bason, of Dover, with whom he celebrated his 62nd wedding anniversary in November 2002; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Clement D. and Barbara Bason of New Castle, Mark A. and Kathy Bason of Dover, and Randall B. Bason of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Wanda and Fred Sherriff of Kennilworth, Ill., and Adele Haugh of San Mateo, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Colin and Renette
Haugh, and Clement A. Bason, all of California, Sarah and Ryan Bason of Arizona, Christopher Bason of North Carolina, Andrew Sherriff of Illnois, and Katie and Amanda Bason of Dover; and a great-granddaughter, Anna Adele Haugh of California.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

W. Richard Hickman, 82
WEST FENWICK ISLAND - W. Richard Hickman, of West Fenwick Island, died of cancer Friday, April 4, 2003, in his home. He was 82.
Mr. Hickman was a retired waterman and manager of the Assawoman Wildlife Refuge and seafood restaurant owner.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lenore; a son and daughter-in-law, William "Bill" and Virginia Lee Hickman; a daughter, Victoria Hickman; two brothers, Dempsey J. Hickman and Lloyd "Billo" Hickman; five grandchildren, Shair Lynn Baull, Dawn Renne Holloway, Billy Hickman, Wenda Leigh Whittington and Jaclyn Cinda Marie Hastings; four great-grandchildren, Amber Christina Lynn Hickman, Courtney Elizabeth Baull, Zackary Hickman and Austin Warren Hastings; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Frankford chapel of Melson Funeral Services, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Roxana Cemetery.

Gladys E. Morris, 77
DELMAR - Gladys E. Morris, of Delmar, died Friday, April 4, 2003, in Chancellor Care Center, Delmar. She was 77.
Mrs. Morris was born in Altoona, Pa., daughter of the late Stewart and Hazel Allison.
She worked for Campbell Soup Co. in Salisbury, Md., for 15 years.
She loved to travel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Franklin Morris; a son, James Franklin Morris; two daughters, Darlene Smart and Betty Morris, three brothers, and four sisters.
She is survived by two sons, David Morris Sr. of Delmar and Elwood Franklin Morris Jr. of Greenwood; a daughter, Judy Willing of Delmar; her companion of 20 years, William Smith; a brother, Dean Allison of Altoona; a sister, Thelma Hoffman of Altoona; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Wicomico Memorial Park, Salisbury, where friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Short Funeral Home, Delmar.

Elizabeth 'Betty' Quillen Warren, 71
FREDERICA - Elizabeth "Betty" Quillen Warren, of Frederica, died Friday, April 4, 2003, in her home. She was 71.
Mrs. Warren was born July 29, 1931, in Goldsboro, Md., daughter of the late Earl Sr. and Bessie (Hudson) Quillen.
In her early married life, she enjoyed raising dairy cows and sharing farm life with her husband. Later on as her family expanded, she enjoyed raising her four children and supporting their activities including the local 4-H. She also enjoyed times with her sister-in-law, Gladys Warren, and friend, Diane Carlisle, especially trips to the beach. She loved the Delaware State Fair and the many activities and renewed friendships camping at the fair would bring.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Cecil "Sonny" Warren.
In addition to her sister-in-law, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary and Gale Warren of Middletown and Ronnie Warren of Felton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Doug Warrington of Columbus, Ohio, and Sondra and Jim Satterfield of Camden; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Jeanette Quillen of Greenwood and George and Kathy Quillen of Seaford; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Alan Morris of Selbyville; another special in-law, Babe Warren; four grandchildren, Misty Warren, Molly Warren, Elizabeth Warrington and Kyle Satterfield; and several nices and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Benjamin E. 'Ben' Freeman, 71
DOVER - Benjamin E. "Ben" Freeman of Dover died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Christina Care, Wilmington. He was 71.
Mr. Freeman was born May 27, 1929, in Dover, where he was raised, son of the late Rev. Thomas E. Freeman and Delia Lewis Freeman.
Service will be 7 p.m. Monday at First Pilgrim Baptist Church, 27 S. Caesar Rodney Ave., Camden, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Cemetery.
Timothy Wayne Bise Sr., 30
HENDERSON, Md. - Timothy Wayne Bise Sr. of Henderson died Monday, April 2, 2001, in Baltimore. He was 30.
Mr. Bise was born in Baltimore, the son of Dennis P. Moore of Pasadena and the late Sandra Gray Bise.
He was a cabinetmaker.
Mr. Bise was a member of Local 974 in Baltimore.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his loving wife, Tracy L. Chamberlain-Bise of Henderson; two daughters, Tiffany Bise of Baltimore and Jessica Chamberlain of Henderson; a son, Timothy Wayne Bise Jr. of Henderson; a sister, Penny Burnett of Spartanburg, N.C.; and two aunts, Kitty Raynor and Nancy Bise both of San Antonio, Texas.
Service and burial were private.

Anna Mary Bryn, 97
REHOBOTH BEACH - Anna Mary Bryn of Rehoboth Beach died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, following an automobile accident that day. She was 97.
Mrs. Bryn received her graduate degree from Mt. Holy Oke College in Massachusetts.
She comes from a line of physicians. Her late grandfather, Ephreim McDowell, was renowned for his pioneer work involving tumor surgery for women. His work and life were portrayed in a documentary several years ago. Her father was a country medical doctor and her husband's father was the minister to Norway in the 1920s.
Mrs. Bryn was a biologist and taught school for many years at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa.
She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles with a pen.
Mrs. Bryn was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Library and the VIA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sigmund Bryn, in 1982.
She is survived by two nieces, Catherine Priest, and her husband, Martin, of Rehoboth Beach; and Laura Winslow of Chevy Chase, Md.; a nephew-in-law, Capt. Thomas Sisson of Chevy Chase; 10 grandnieces and grandnephews; and 17 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway in Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be held privately in All Saints Cemetery, Angola.

William F. Hodgkinson III, 67
SMYRNA - William F. Hodgkinson III of Smyrna died Friday, April 6, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 67.
Mr. Hodgkinson was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Providence, R.I., the son of the late William F. Hodgkinson II and Gladys Williams Hodgkinson.
He worked as a housing inspector/chief engineer for the federal government in Germany. He also served 12 years in the Army Reserves.
He is survived by his wife, Erica Kwett Hodgkinson; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Ilene Carp of Edgewood, Md., and Rico Hodgkinson of Baltimore; a daughter, Bonita Carp-Banik of Philadelphia; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Chris Christenson of Utah; two grandchildren, Kody Banik of Philadelphia and Isabel Hodgkinson of Baltimore; and children in California.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St. in Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be private.
James C. Johnson, 83
MILFORD - James C. Johnson of Milford died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in Beebe Hospital, Lewes. He was 83.
Mr. Johnson joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and was discharged in 1945.
He had been employed for several years by The News Journal as a deliveryman.
Mr. Johnson enjoyed gardening and cooking.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Isaac "Ike" and Henry Johnson; and a sister, Mary Jane.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Smith Johnson; two sons, James Jr. of Millsboro and Steven of Milford; three grandchildren, Pamela Conaway and Matthew Brian Johnson, both of Millsboro, and Andrew D. Johnson of Milford; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Ryan Johnson and Cody James Kidwell, both of Millsboro.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Fleischauer Funeral Home, 48 W. Market St., Greenwood.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.
