Addie L. Phillips, 67
GEORGETOWN - Addie L. Phillips of Georgetown died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md., after a brief illness. She was 67.
Mrs. Phillips was born Sept. 22, 1933, in New Bern, N.C., the daughter of the late Clarence Henry Hargett and Mabel Jeffers.
She graduated from William C. Jason High School in 1951. She was then joined in holy matrimony with Cornelius Phillips Sr.
Mrs. Phillips worked for Bell Atlantic Telephone Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1992.
An extraordinary organist and pianist, she played for many area churches including St. John 2nd Baptist Church in Millsboro, where she was a faithful member for many years.
Mrs. Phillips was involved in many community and civil organizations. She was a member of the Democratic Club, We Care Truck Organization, Georgetown City Council, The Glee Club, Order of Eastern Star, and many more.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Hargett.
She is survived by her son, Cornelius Phillips Jr. of Kinston, N.C.; two granddaughters, Dana Phillips of Dover and Natalie Phillips of Baltimore; three brothers, Walter Hargett and Allen Ray Hargett, both of Millsboro, and Clarence Henry Hargett of Georgetown; three great-grandchildren, Joniyah, Justin and Jada, all of Dover; and a host of relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. John's 2nd Baptist Church in Millsboro.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Ray Henry Stevenson Jr., 72
WORTON, Md. - Ray Henry Stevenson Jr. of Worton died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. He was 72.
Mr. Stevenson was born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Ray Henry and Aileen Hardy Stevenson.
He graduated from Strayer Business College in Washington D.C.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1948.
Mr. Stevenson began working in the retail automotive industry, becoming the executive vice president of Capital Car Distributors Inc., importing Volkswagens to the mid-Atlantic region in the early 1960s. He later became the executive vice president of Mid-Atlantic Toyota Distributors and was president of Classic Motor Cars in Annapolis.
He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, fishing, and boating. He was also an avid Washington Redskins fan.
Mr. Stevenson was a member of Congressional Country Club, the Annapolis Yacht Club, and former president of Chester River Yacht and Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, whom he married on April 17, 1949, Evelyn Anne Mohler Stevenson; a son, James Hardy Stevenson of Washington D.C.; and two granddaughters, Kimberly Anne and Shannon Marie Stevenson, both of Annapolis.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
Burial will be private in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association of Maryland, 407 Central Ave, Reisterstown, MD 21136, or to the Kent and Queen Anne's Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 126, Chestertown, MD 21620.

Bessie May Tracy, 93
MARYDEL - Bessie May Tracy of Marydel died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a short illness. She was 93.
Mrs. Tracy was born in New Martinsville, W.Va., the daughter of the late Albert Jennings and Alice Shaw Jennings.
After living in Elizabeth, Pa., for most of her adult life, she moved to Delaware in 1976.
She enjoyed spending many hours crocheting and reading. During the past few years she has crocheted and donated approximately 200 lap robes to area health centers.
Mrs. Tracy was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Okey Glen Tracy, and by four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Okey A. and Shirley Tracy of Hamilton, Ohio, W. Lee and Ruth Tracy of Pittsburgh, and Richard D. and Teresa Tracy of Dover; a daughter and her husband, A. Ellen and James W. Ressler of Dover; a sister, Edna Jenkins of Alliance, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Trader Funeral home, where friends may call one hour prior to service. The Rev. Steven Wellman, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

Ezekiel Reed 'Zeke' 'Bud' Carter, 84
LINCOLN - Ezekiel Reed 'Zeke' 'Bud' Carter of Lincoln died of cancer Sunday, March 9, 2003, in his home. He was 84.
Mr. Carter was born March 31, 1918, in Summit, N.J.
He was a machinist for Hercules in Dover, N.J.
Mr. Carter was affiliated with Old Paths Church of Christ in Georgetown. He belonged to the Coon Hunters Club and the Delaware Marva Driving Club.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Ruth Carter of Lincoln; three daughters, Susan Mancuso of Paupack, Pa., Bonnie Carter of Lambertville, N.J. and Carol Halloran of Oxford, N.J.; three grandchildren, Kelsey Halloran, Carter Halloran and Nicole Mancuso; and a sister, Lillian Carter of Effort, Pa.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Old Paths Church of Christ, 18295 Redden Road, Georgetown.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice 600 N. Dupont Highway, Suite 107 Georgetown, DE 19947.

Eugene T. 'Gene' Crain, 46
WEBSTER, Fla. - Eugene T. "Gene" Crain of Webster died Monday, March 10, 2003, in his home. He was 46.
Mr. Crain was a native of Dover, Del. He moved to this area in 1993 from Arizona.
He was self-employed in the furniture repair industry.
Mr. Crain was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Crain, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; five daughters, Valerie and Kathy Crain, both of Dover, Del., Nicole Crain of Rocklin, Calif., Delaina Crain of Webster and April Lynch of Webster; a son, Robert Rigney of Lakeland; his mother, Phyllis Flores of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Jeff King of Hartly, Del.; a sister, Karen King of Felton, Del.; his maternal grandparents, Doris Jones of Marydel, Del. and Merrill Jones of Lake Wales, Fla.; and two granddaughters, Mikayla Allison and Heidi Lynch both of Webster.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home, Dale City.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Chaplain Larry Richards will officiate.

Franklin Archibald Dick, 89
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Franklin Archibald Dick of Chestertown died Friday, March 7, 2003, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. He was 89.
Mr. Dick was born Dec. 10, 1913, in Philadelphia.
He attended the Lawrenceville School and Princeton University.
He was a Veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army Air Force, 360 Fighter Squadron, in the European theater.
Mr. Dick, a chemical engineer, successfully registered a patent for a testing system used in the printing ink industry. He spent the first 25 years of his career with the Interchemical Company and then worked for Converter's Ink. In retirement, he served as President of Marbetech, Inc. until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie.
He is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Anderson of Amelia Island, Fla. and Elizabeth Smith of Boston, Mass.; three grandsons, George Cooper of Arlington, Va., F. Cullen Cooper of Greensboro, N.C. and William Cooper of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, Mia Dick West of Baltimore; and his two half-brothers, Edward A. Griffith and William L. Griffith both of Baltimore.
Services were held in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Chestertown, Md.
Burial was in the Parsons Cemetery, Salisbury, Md.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Heron Point Employee Appreciation Fund, 501 Campus Ave., Chestertown, MD 21620 or to the Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, 100 Brown St., Chestertown, MD 21620.

Carroll R. Garrett, 81
DOVER - Carroll R. Garrett of Dover died Sunday, March 9, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 81.
Mr. Garrett was born Nov. 8, 1921, in Tunnellton, W.Va., son of the late Warren and Olive (Phyllips) Garrett.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Mr. Garrett went to Morgantown High School and West Virginia University of Welding.
He worked with and out of Pipefitters Local 782.
Mr. Garrett was a member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene for 54 years
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and Charles Garrett; and a sister, Virginia McFarland.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lillie Yoke Garrett of Dover; two sons and daughters-in-law, Monty and Brenda Garrett of Dover and Dennis and Cheryl Garrett of Dover; three grandsons and their respective wives, Timothy and Linde Garrett of Dover, Patrick and Jonelle Garrett of Dover and Andrew and Leslie Kosek of Dover; a granddaughter, Arlissa Garrett of Dover; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Jake Garrett of Dover.
Celebration of life services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Calvary Church of the Nazarene on North Little Creek Road in Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Memorial Park.
