William H. Lewis, 86
QUEENSTOWN, Md. - William H. Lewis of Queenstown died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in his home. He was 86.
Mr. Lewis was the only son of the late Henry and Carlette Mann Lewis of Plainfield, N.J.
He received his education in the public schools of Plainfield.
In November 1942 he was inducted into the armed services and served as a staff sergeant in the 999th F.A. Battalion. He served in the following campaigns: Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He received several decorations and citations, among these were American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
After his honorable discharge, Mr. Lewis continued to work at the Brooklyn Army Base for several years before his employment with the U.S. Postal Service at Grand Central Station in New York City, from which he retired in 1972. Upon retirement he moved to his home in Queenstown, where he resided until his death.
He is survived by a loving wife, whom he married in 1950, Alma Washington Lewis; a daughter, Nina Butler of Grasonville; two god-children, Alfreda Dunning and Michelle Chester, both of Queenstown; a sister-in-law, Agnes Washington of Queenstown; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bryan's United Methodist Church in Grasonville, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, Hurlock.

Evelyn M. Rodgers, 84
MILLSBORO - Evelyn M. Rodgers of Millsboro died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in her home. She was 84.
Mrs. Rodgers was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Hitz.
She was the founder of Shawn's Hideaway in Millsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward S. Rodgers, in 1973.
She is survived by a son, Edward S. Rodgers of Millsboro; two daughters, Joan Stephenson and Geraldine Ferraro, both of Millsboro; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Long Neck.
Burial will be private.

Melville C. Taylor Sr., 87
HARRINGTON - Melville C. Taylor Sr. of Harrington died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 87.
Mr. Taylor was an avid ball player in high school. As a member of the Eastern Shore Baseball League, he was given the nickname "Homerun Taylor." His skill of baseball was so great, he could tell where the ball was going the second the ball hit the bat.
After farming a number of years, he became partners with Joseph Konesey in 1947 and began selling Kaiser and Frazier automobiles, which later became Taylor Motors until 1954.
In 1955 and 1956 he served as assistant chief clerk in the House of Representatives.
In 1957he became a state highway inspector, and later became the supervisor of the state Highway Maintenance Yard in Harrington, retiring from the Highway Department in 1975.
After retiring, he and his wife Mary managed Drexel Court Motel in Land of Lakes, Fla., which they had purchased several years before retiring. He finally retired fully at age 70.
His favorite hobby during retirement was playing golf.
Mr. Taylor was a member of the Harrington Lions Club for more than 50 years, a lifeteme associates member of the Harrington Fire Co., and a charter member of the Harrington Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church, and an associate member of the First United Methodist Church in Land of Lakes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Arthur Taylor and Mae L. Taylor; a son, William C. Taylor; a brother, Leonard A. Taylor; and a sister, Catherine Donovan.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Wright Taylor of Harrington; a son and his wife, M. Charles and Kathleen Taylor of Harrington; a daughter and her husband, Edna Mae and Anthony Gallo of Harrington; a brother, J. Edward Taylor of Harrington; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Highway in Harrington, where friends may call two hours prior to service. The Rev. Jack Gowan of the Prospect United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
William Minos Tull, 77
BRIDGEVILLE - William Minos Tull of Bridgeville died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Crozer Burn Center in Chester, Pa. He was 77.
Mr. Tull was the son of the late William N. Tull and Myrtle Williamson Tull and lived on the Tull family farm, which has been in the Tull family for 100 years.
He graduated from Bridgeville High School in 1941.
Mr. Tull joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II.
He worked for O.A. Newton's in Bridgeville briefly, then worked for E.I. DuPont Co. in Seaford for 38 years.
Mr. Tull was a member of the Bridgeville Kiwanis Club, the Tree Farm Association and Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville. He was a charter member of Greenwood VFW Post 7478. He served as a board member of both the Bridgeville and Woodbridge school districts far 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Breeding Tull; three sons, William Wayne Tull of Greenwood, Robert B. Tull of Bridgeville and Michael J. Tull of Greenwood; a daughter, Debra L. Short, of Greenwood; two brothers, Leroy T. Tull of Greenwood and Donald H. Tull of Denton, Md.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Union United Methodist Church, Market and Laws streets, Bridgeville.
Burial will follow in the Bridgeville Cemetery.

Sarah Shockley Parkhurst, 77
SEAFORD - Sarah Shockley Parkhurst of Seaford died of natural causes Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. She was 77.
Mrs. Parkhurst was born Aug. 1, 1925, daughter of the late Mae Elizabeth (Christopher) Shockley and James G. Shockley.
She was a humanitarian who enjoyed helping others. She never met a stranger.
Mrs. Parkhurst enjoyed crossword puzzles and staying active, and was an avid reader.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Fred Parkhurst II; a daughter, Patty; six brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Fred III and Linda Parkhurst of Greenwood, Neil and Nancy Parkhurst of Delmar, Md., and Bruce and Miriam Parkhurst of Seaford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Mike Mills of Greenwood, Barbara and Donald Jester of Milford, and Belinda and Mark Barstch of Felton; two sisters, Dona Medley of Milton and Nancy Brown of Rossville, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be private.

Dorothy E. Bunting, 97
SELBYVILLE - Dorothy E. Bunting of Selbyville died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Snow Hill (Md.) Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 97.
Mrs. Bunting was born in Showell, Md., daughter of the late Clayton and Eva Hickman Wells.
She had been a clerk for the former Sewing Basket store, Selbyville. She and her husband co-owned and operated Sam's Esso, Ocean City, Md., until 1983.
Mrs. Bunting was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Selbyville; and the Selbyville Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies' Auxiliary since 1940. In 1988, at the company's 75th anniversary ceremony, she was honored as the oldest living member of the auxiliary. She modeled her handmade uniform, which she wore in more than 25 parades and donated the uniform to the fire company for display. She also was a member of Ayita Council 19, improved order of Redmen Degree of Pocahontas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Sammy J. Bunting, in 1984.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Blanche P. and Bill Williams of Snow Hill; two grandchildren, Susan Long and her husband, Jerry, of Selbyville and Wayne Williams and his wife, Alice, of Salisbury, Md.; four great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hastings Funeral Home, Selbyville, where friends may call one hour earlier. Dick Lort will officiate.
Burial will be in Redmen's Cemetery, Selbyville.

Patricia R. Carmean, 78
LEWES - Patricia R. Carmean of Lewes died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 78.
Mrs. Carmean was born in Hicksville, Ohio, daughter of the late Pierre and Geneva Gier Swan.
She was a sales associate at Braunstein's, Rehoboth Beach.
Mrs. Carmean loved gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Carmean.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Lynda Holland of Georgetown and Dawn and Jack Timmons of Dagsboro; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Hayes Cooper of Ellendale, Bill and Debbie Cooper of Ocean View, and Rick Cooper of Rehoboth Beach; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Sink of Summerfield, Fla.; and a brother, Bud Swan of Montpelier, Ohio.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, near Milton.
