Laurel Sanderson Swindle, 56
SANFORD, Fla. - Laurel Sanderson Swindle of Sanford died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, in her home following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 56.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church in Dover with the Rev. Celeste Cox officiating.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church School Fund.
Robert J. Vignola, 61
LEWES - Robert J. Vignola of Lewes died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 61.
Mr. Vignola was born in Philadelphia, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Vignola.
He lived and went to school in Rehoboth Beach, where he graduated from Rehoboth High School. During his high school years, he excelled in football and track.
He then served in the U.S. Army.
Following his Army service, he married his wife of 40 years, Judith H. Vignola, and operated the family motel business in Dewey Beach for 20 years. He was also associated with various other area businesses.
He was very proud of the fact that he served on the Rehoboth Beach Patrol from 1954-1968.
Mr. Vignola was a member of the Rehoboth Beach VFW 7447 and the American Legion Post 17, Lewes.
He will be dearly missed by his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Stephen A. Vignola, in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; a daughter, Karen Vignola Truitt of Lewes; a sisters, Valerie Campbell and Carol Van Steen, both of Greenwood; and two brothers, Raymond Vignola and David Vignola, both of Florida.
Service and burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Vignola to the Debora Hospital Foundation, 212 Trenton Road, Browns Mills, N.J. 08015.

Margaret 'Peggy' Walls, 62
CHURCH HILL, Md. - Margaret "Peggy" Walls of Church Hill died of heart failure Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in the Corsica Hills Nursing Home, Centreville. She was 62.
Mrs. Walls was born in Easton, the daughter of Edward Edge of Dover, Del., and the late Mary Emma Smith Edge.
She was a homemaker.
She was a very active member of the Liberty Lighthouse Church in Chestertown, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1979.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas "Sonny" Walls Sr.; two daughters, Mary Walls Pullen of Centreville, and Brenda Walls Plummer of Chestertown; a son, Thomas F. Walls Jr. of Sudlersville; four sisters, Marylee Boyles of Chestertown, Frances Osborne of Chesapeake City, Darlene Alton of Henderson and Barbara Jonczak of Centreville; a brother, Thomas Edge of Worton; her stepmother, Margaret Edge of Dover, and eight grandchildren.
Service will be noon Thursday at the Liberty Lighthouse Church, Md. 213 South, Chestertown, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Church Hill Cemetery, Church Hill.

Edna M. Weir
FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Edna M. Weir of Federalsburg died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in Genesis Eldercare The Pines in Easton.
Mrs. Weir was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Myrl Atlee Montgomery and Ola Elizabeth Chaffinch Montgomery.
She is survived by her husband, William Harold Weir of Federalsburg; two daughters, Jean Moyer of Sebring, Fla., and Linda Tritapoe of Easton and four grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Union United Methodist Church, 301 North Main Street, Federalsburg, MD 21632.

Irving Woodall, 92
MILLINGTON, Md. - Irving Woodall of Millington died of heart failure Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in his home. He was 92.
Mr. Woodall was born in Queen Anne's County, the son of the late Grover and Delma Wallen Woodall.
He worked on the family farm until it was sold in the early 1950s.
His family retired in Millington, where he lived the balance of his life.
Mr. Woodall loved the Baltimore Orioles, and enjoyed watching people. He could be seen on the corner in Millington watching people come and go or near the 301 interchange and all these stops were part of his daily routine.
He is survived by four cousins, Sidney McGinnes and Ralph McGinnes, both of Chestertown; Helen Pardee of Church Hill; and Elsie Trojak of Palo Alto, Calif.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Crumpton Cemetery, Crumpton.
Tech Sgt. Bill Zahner, 65
SEAFORD - Tech Sgt. Bill Zahner of Seaford died of respiratory failure Saturday, March 10, 2001, in his home. He was 65.
Tech Sgt. Zahner was born in Baltimore, the son of the late Samuel and Theresa Dora Zahner.
He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the military for 20 years, first in the U.S. Marine Corps and then in the U.S. Air Force, retiring at the rank of tech sergeant in 1974.
He was a warehouse manager for the former American Original Co. in Cannon for 14 years, retiring in 1988.
Tech Sgt. Zahner was a member of the Virgil Wilson Post 4961, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Nanticoke Post 6 American Legion and the Loyal Order of Moose, all in Seaford.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Zahner; two sons, Donald A. Kvedrowicz of Harrington and Joseph W. Zahner Jr. of Salisbury, Md.; a daughter, Christine Hessenkemper of Brick, N.J.; a grandson; four granddaughters; a great-grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets in Seaford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. John P. Harrison will officiate.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, with a committal service held at 1 p.m.
Tracy R. Walters IV, 32
SMYRNA - Tracy R. Walters IV of Smyrna died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 32.
Mr. Walters was born March 4, 1971, in Dover.
He was an account manager for RentWay.
Mr. Walters loved music and fishing and enjoyed taking architectural classes at Delaware Technical and Community College. He also loved being with his daughter and family.
He is survived by his father, Tracy R. Walters III, and his wife Ruth Ann of Dover; his mother, Betty Lou Windsor Diaz, and her husband, Jay Diaz, of Smyrna; his parental grandmother, Margaret Walters of Dover; a daughter, Kimberlee Anne Walters of Harbeson; two stepchildren, Anthony Huling and Becca Huling, both of Harbeson; a special friend, Michele Huling; a brother, Jason Luff of Dover; and a sister, Carol Walters of Ridley Park, Pa.
Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

Mary V. Brittingham Bowens, 78
DOVER - Mary V. Brittingham Bowens of Dover died after a long-term illness Saturday, March 8, 2003, in Green Valley Pavilion Nursing Home, Smyrna. She was 78.
Mrs. Bowens was born Dec. 12, 1924, daughter of the late Robert and Bessie Johnson. She lived most of her life in Maryland until she moved to Utica, N.Y.
She worked at St. Luke Memorial Hospital until she retired and moved to Dover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Johnson; a brother, Eddie Johnson; two daughters, Mary Ann Baker and Rose Brittingham; and two sons, James Thomas and Robert Brittingham.
She is survived by her husband, Vernell Bowens of Dover; a brother, Charles Johnson of Centreville, Md.; three sons, Charles "Chip" Brittingham of Dover, Conwell Brittingham of Easton, Md., and George "Hickey" Brittingham of Centreville; a daughter, Della "Pat" Roberts of Smyrna; a son-in-law, Leroy Roberts of Smyrna; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Brittingham of Easton, Md.; 29 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and host of other family members and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Charles Wesley United Methodist Church, Centreville, where friends may call one hour earlier.
