MILLSBORO - Bertony Ferdinad Jr. of Millsboro died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in his home. He was 11 months old.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Quintina Wright.
He is survived by his father, Bertony Ferdinad; his grandfather, William Wright; and his aunt, Jennifer L. Morgan of Lewes.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Mary Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Del. 24 in Millsboro.
Burial will be in Harmony Church Cemetery, Millsboro.

Walter L. Willoughby, 70
MARYDEL - Walter L. Willoughby of Marydel died Friday, Jan 5, 2001, in his home in Marydel with family and friends.
Mr. Willoughby was born April 10, 1930, in Huntington, W. Va., the son of the late Edgar and Jennie (McGlothlin) Willoughby.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force with 22 1/2 years of service as a security police and an armed forces courier. He also served as one of the Armed Forces couriers for papers from the Vietnamese peace talks for President Richard M. Nixon.
He was a driver at Preston Trucking for 10 years and worked at Reichold Chemical for eight years. He was a Dover Air Force Base volunteer at the base hospital.
Mr. Willoughby enjoyed woodworking and had his own shop at home. He also enjoyed pony racing.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Sue, who died in 1949; a sister; and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 52 1/2 years, TeNeil Willoughby of Marydel; two sons and their wives, Dan and Sandye Willoughby of Orlando, Fla., and Carl and Deborah Willoughby of Dover; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Bruce Farrow of Dover; a sister, Bettie Boster of Hampton, Va.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be noon p.m. Tuesday at Trader Funeral Home, Dover, with the Rev. Ron Wuest officiating, and where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover.
Instead of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to: Delaware Hospice 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Amy Ellen Dean, 93
HARRINGTON - Amy Ellen Dean of Harrington died of natural causes Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 93.
Mrs. Dean was born July 18, 1907, in Harrington, daughter of the late William Dill.
She was a lifetime resident of Harrington. She was employed as a seamstress by Rob Roy, Greensboro, Md., and Aetna, Harrington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dean, on Jan. 29, 1984; a son, Stanley C. Dean; three brothers, Fred Dill, Earl Dill and Willie Dill; and two sisters, Bessie Larimore and Pauline Cohee.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Ruth Dean of Harrington; a grandson, Lee Dean of Harrington; a granddaughter, Lynn Outten of Harrington; two great-grandsons, Jason Dean and Jeffrey Outten; and a great-great-grandson, Cody Outten.
A service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery.

William J. Thoroughgood, 85
LEWES - William J. Thoroughgood of Lewes died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 85.
Mr. Thoroughgood was born in Georgetown, son of the late George Miller and Pearl Davis Thoroughgood.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces.
Mr. Thoroughgood was a former Rehoboth Beach policeman. He also was the former owner, for many years, of a retail appliance business in Rehoboth Beach. He served as a city commissioner for several years.
He loved to fish, and held the Delaware state record for the largest bluefish caught in saltwater.
Mr. Thoroughgood was a life member of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co., where he had served as past president and past fire chief. In 1970, he received a commendation award from the American Legion National Headquarters for service to his community through the fire company. He had been a member, years ago, of Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth Beach, where he had served as an usher and was a member of the Methodist Men group.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David A. and Jamie Thoroughgood, and William John Thoroughgood, all of Lewes; two daughters, Maryann Bursaw and Debbie Thoroughgood, both of Rehoboth Beach; two brothers, Edward Thoroughgood and Joseph Thoroughgood, both of Lewes; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes.
A service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial, with full fireman and military honors, will be in Epworth United Methodist Church's cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Tunnell Cancer Center, c/o Beebe Medical Center, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.

Walter L. Willoughby, 70
MARYDEL - Walter L. Willoughby of Marydel died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in his home surrounded by family and friends. He was 70.
Mr. Willoughby was born April 10, 1930, in Huntington, W.Va., the son of the late Edgar and Jennie McGlothlin Willoughby.

Wilma J. Bader, 54
NEWARK - Wilma J. Bader of Newark died of emphysema Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 54.
Mrs. Bader was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia J. Skipper of Easton, Md., and Virginia Stadler; four siblings, Pat Tucker of Harrington, Albert Evans of Magnolia, James Evans of Milford and Margaret Kemp of Seaford; and six grandchildren, Jaren, Morgan, Vincent, Darian, Christina and Katelyn.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

Thomas Carter, 53
SEAFORD - Thomas Carter of Seaford died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 53.
Mr. Carter was born April 7, 1947.
Service will be 11 a.m. today at Macedonia Methodist Church, Seaford, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Sophie Yaroszewski, 86
DOVER - Sophie Yaroszewski of Dover, formerly of Smyrna, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 86.
Mrs. Yaroszewski was born July 10, 1916, in Nanticoke, Pa., daughter of the late Anthony and Julia Raczkowski Teodzecki.
She worked as a sewing machine operator for General Clothing of Smyrna for 10 years before retirement.
Mrs. Yaroszewski was a member of St. Polycarp's Roman Catholic Church in Smyrna.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Yaroszewski in 1981 and a son, Edward Yaroszewski.
She is survived by a son, Theodore Yaroszewski of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Yaroszewski of Spotsylvania, Va., and two grandchildren, Joseph Yaroszewski of Winston-Salem, N. C., and Lara Brown of Fredericksburg, Va.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St. Smyrna.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna.

Pearl C. Dixon, 96
MILLINGTON, Md. - Pearl C. Dixon of Millington died Friday, April 6, 2001, in the Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 96.
Mrs. Dixon was born July 24, 1904, the daughter of the late Hayden and Elizabeth Spencer. She was raised in Goldsboro.
She worked for Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania for 13 years, overseeing the dining room.
Mrs. Dixon moved to Millington in 1938 after her marriage to Sidney Dixon, who died in 1951. For the next 30 years, she began supplementing her income by taking in boarders, a list including those being transferred into the area for the power company, a school principal, a police officer, and a funeral director.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sewing.
Mrs. Dixon was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Millington,
She is survived by her dear friend and neighbor of 50 years, Eleanor Irwin and her daughters, Eloise Zeller of Columbia and Barbara Barman of Frederick, and her 2 daughters, Christina and Chelsea of Frederick; and three nieces, Carolyn Mosseller and Patricia Pyle, both of Virginia and Marie Thompson of Pennsylvania.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday in Asbury Cemetery, Millington. The Rev. Rob Townsend will officiate.
Arrangements by Stephen L. Schaech of Galena, who was her last boarder.

David E. Drake, 57
DELAWARE CITY - David E. Drake of Delaware City, and formerly of Templeville, Md., died Friday, April 6, 2001, in Christiana Medical Center, Wilmington. He was 57.
Mr. Drake was born Nov. 26, 1943, in Dover, the son of the late Amber Sikes and Ashton G. Drake.
He enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends.
He is survived by a daughter, Rachel Barrett of Elkton, Md.; a son, David E. Drake Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, James Drake of Baltimore and Luin Drake of Dover; a sister, Rosalie Zober Edwards of Dover; and two grandchildren, Gabriel Barrett and Benjamin Barrett both of Elkton.
Service will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave. in Wyoming, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be held privately in the Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro, Md.

Ruth A, Powell, 99
HARRINGTON - Ruth A, Powell of Harrington died of natural causes Friday, April 7, 2001, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 99.
Mrs. Powell was born in Burrsville, Md.
She was one of Harrington's "Natural Treasures." She took great pride in her home, her family and friends, and her community. Moving to Harrington in 1921, she always wanted to be noted as a "lifelong member of the community."
Mrs. Powell was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington, the Harrington Senior Center, and a longtime member of The Harrington New Century Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Powell, in 1957.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Powell of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Weiner Avenue, Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Kenneth R. Ridings, 60
GEORGETOWN, Md. - Kenneth R. Ridings of Georgetown, and formerly of Dundalk, died of heart failure Friday, April 6, 2001, in Union Hospital. He was 60.
Mr. Ridings was born April 1, 1941, the son of Mildred Brewer of Georgetown and the late John Brewer.
He retired in 1993 after 29 years at Crown, Cork and Seal of Baltimore.
Mr. Ridings was a member of AFL-CIO Local 1672.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 22 years, Gail Ridings; six children, Ronald Ridings of Edgemere, Joseph Ridings of Pasadena, Ren Ridings of Baltimore, Ken B. Ridings of Abington, Mark Tice of Salisbury, and Lori Ellinger and her husband John of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Ashley Ridings, Amanda Ridings and Trea Ellinger; a brother and his wife, Steve and Loretta Ridings of Oklahoma; a sister, Vera May of Georgetown; and a brother-in-law, Charles May of Georgetown.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. in Galena, where friends may call two hours prior to service.

Carlton C. Savage, 68
MILLSBORO - Carlton C. Savage of Millsboro died of heart failure Thursday, April 5, 2001, in his home. He was 68.
Mr. Savage was born in Bishopville, Md., the son of the late Ollie and Maud Savage.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Savage was a retired employee of Delmarva Power with over 20 years of service at the Indian River Power Plant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine and Mabel.
He is survived by his wife, Jean E. Savage; a daughter, Cheryl Baker of Gumboro; two stepdaughters, Margaret Barth of Philadephia and Jennifer Barth of Seattle, Wash.; a stepson, John Barth of Georgetown; five brothers, Ollie Savage and Richard Savage both of Bishopville, Md., William Savage of Clarksville, Luther Savage of Selbyville and Charles Savage of Dagsboro; four sisters, June Hickman of Millsboro, Madelyn McGee of Ocean View, Lennie Tingle of Gumboro, and Shirley West of Bishopville; and two grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at The Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in the St. George's Cemetery, Clarksville.

Robert L. Sherwood, 82
FELTON - Robert L. Sherwood of Felton died of a massive stroke Friday, April 6, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 82.
Mr. Sherwood was born in Houston, the son of the late Wilbert and Blanche Bernard Sherwood.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Senior Master Sgt., receiving many commendations, retiring in 1967 after 23 years of service.
After retiring from the service, he was superintendent of grounds and buildings for Lake Forest School for 16 Years. He also worked at NASA in Greenbelt, Md. for two years.
Mr. Sherwood memberships included: Manship Chapel; Victory 15 0.E.S. in Dover; Union Lodge 7 A.F.&A.M. in Dover; Scottish Rite Valley of Wilmington; Nur Temple AA0NMS in Wilmington; First State Shrine Club; Lower Delaware Shrine Club; Delaware Shrine Club; I.O.O.F. Lodge 30 in Felton; Sarah Rebekah Lodge 16 in Felton; and the I.O.O.F. Commandery. He was also a life member of the V.F.W. Post 6009 in Felton and a charter member of the Felton Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Salena Kates Sherwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl J.S. and R. Dale Gladden of Felton; a son, Robert Lawrence Sherwood of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Ralph Sherwood of Smyrna; five grandchildren, Caprecia G. Zdradzinski and her husband, Michael, Catrena G. Welch and her husband, Glenn; Casondra Gladden and her friend Michael Cain, Julie-Marie T. Gladden, and Julieanne S. Cross and her husband Michael; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary Zdradzinski, Zadriene Zdradzinski, Tyler Welch, and Whitney-Jane D. Welch.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street in Felton, where an Odd Fellows Service will be held at 7 p.m., and a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Service will be noon Tuesday at the funeral home, where an Eastern Star Service will be held at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in The Veterans Cemetery, Georgetown.

Shirley Mae Spence, 50
ELLENDALE - Shirley Mae Spence of Ellendale died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 50.
Mrs. Spence was born in Bishopville, Md., the daughter of the late Denard and Marzella Hicks White.
She was a press operator working for J. Wilgus Cleaners in Selbyville, retiring early due to disability.
Mrs. Spence was a member of the Trinity Holiness Church in Frankford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Spence, in 1983.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, whom she lived with, Jacqueline M. and Andrew Marshall of Ellendale; a brother, John E. White of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Sarah M. Lillard of Dagsboro and Mary H. Middleton of Frankford; three grandchildren, Tyra, Andrea, and Andrew Jr. all of Ellendale; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Holiness Church, Delaware Street in Frankford, where friends may call one hour prior to service. Pastor Larry Morris will officiate.
Burial will be in Curtis Church Cemetery, Campbelltown Road, Bishopville.

Ruth Agnes Conaway Stanley, 65
VIENNA, Md. - Ruth Agnes Conaway Stanley of Vienna died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in the Dorchcster General Hospital, Cambridge. She was 65.
Mrs. Stanley was born July 11, 1935, in East New Market, the daughter of the late James Herman Conaway and Alma Jackson Conaway.
She attended East New Market Elementary and St. Clair High School in Cambridge.
Mrs. Stanley was employed by Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge for 19 years as a nursing assistant, retiring in 1997.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Hattie Stanley, Pauline Baltimore, Lula Cornish and Alma Louise Cain; and four brothers, James Conaway, Allen Conaway, Charles Conaway, and Jessie Conaway.
She is survived by her husband, Moses Stanley of Vienna; two sons, Alvin Conaway of Vienna and Rodney Conaway of Hurlock; a grandson, Rodney Conaway Jr. of Hurlock; a brother, Algie Conaway of Vienna; a sister, Dorothy Conaway of Vienna; two daughters-in-law, Sedonia Conaway of Vienna and Alice Stanley of Linkwood; three brothers-in-law, Francis Stanley and Joseph Stanley both of Cambridge and Eddie Stanley of Philadelphia, Pa.; six nieces, Lillie Magee, Carolyn Bailey, Teresa Conaway, Cheryl Young, Althea Gaskins, and Cleo Stanley; four nephews, Clarence Baltimore Jr., Ralph Baltimore, Reginald Conaway, and Gregory Conaway; a special family friend, Brenda Thomas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in East New Market.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
