Edward V. Stella, 54
FELTON - Edward V. Stella of Felton died Sunday, March 16, 2003, in the place of his business, Edward V. Stella, P.E., in Wyoming. He was 54.
Mr. Stella was born July 29, 1948, in Clearfield, Pa., son of Cornelia Hanson Stella of Wyoming and the late James Stella.
He was a graduate of Pennsylvania State College (now University) in Collegeville, Pa., and received his master's degree from the University of Delaware in Newark.
Mr. Stella moved to Dover in 1972 to work for General Foods, leaving to work for O.A. Newton in Bridgeville for 10 years, then for Cam-Del Metals for three years. He had operated his own engineering firm for the past 10 years.
He had enjoyed many hours on his computer.
Mr. Stella served as president of the Professional Engineers Society for 10 years, was treasurer of Delaware on Site Waste Water Recycling Association committee at the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 15 years, Shirley of Felton; a stepson, Roland Everett of Hartly; a stepdaughter, Deborah McGinnes of Cambridge, Md.; two brothers, Joseph Stella and William Stella both of Levittown, Pa.; two sisters and their husbands, Patricia and John J. Lions Jr. of Burlington, N.J. and Mary Lou and Robert Graves of Morrisville, Pa.; four nieces, Nancy Maldonado of Burlington, Wendy Maldonado of Queens, N.Y., and Ashley Graves and Amanda Graves both of Morrisville, Pa.,; a nephew, Brian Graves of Morrisville; five step-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Community Service Building, 100 West 10th Street, Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
Paul K. Weatherly, 83
GEORGETOWN - Paul K. Weatherly of Georgetown died from complications of diabetes Monday, March 17, 2003, in Lofland Lifecare, Seaford. He was 83.
Dr. Weatherly was born in 1920 in South Carolina, he was the last survivor of twelve siblings.
He was the founding president of Delaware Technical and Community College and served in that capacity from 1966 through 1978.
Dr. Weatherly began his undergraduate education at Belmont Abby in North Carolina, attending the college on a football scholarship.
During World War II he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he trained as a bomber pilot and flew 55 combat missions over Italy.
After the war, Dr. Weatherly completed his bachelor's degree and master's degree in education at the University of Illinois, where he also met and married his wife, Barbara (Miller) Weatherly.
Before his involvement in technical education, he enjoyed success as a housing contractor, high-school basketball coach, teacher and small-business owner.
Dr. Weatherly's career in education administration began in North Carolina and continued in South Carolina, where he assisted in setting up the South Carolina Tech program. In 1966, he was hired to establish the DT&CC program where he served as President until 1978. After retiring from that position, Dr. Weatherly continued to be involved with DT&CC as, president emeritis and as a member of the school's board of trustees. Among his many professional honors, Dr. Weatherly was twice awarded the Order of the First State, once by Gov. Russell Petersen and later by Gov. Tom Carper.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Barbara Weatherly; a daughter, Barbara Mignon Weatherly and her husband Dean Johnson of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands; a daughter, Debra Dennis and son-in-law Drake Dennis of Georgetown; and two grandsons, Jason and Adam Dennis, both of Boston.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Paul Weatherly Scholarship Fund, DT&CC, and Southern Campus.
There will be no public services.
Joan Margaret Bailey, 86
DOVER - Joan Margaret Bailey of Dover, and previously of London and the town of Ryde on the Isle of Wight, both in the United Kingdom, and of Philadelphia, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, in her home. She was 86.
Mrs. Bailey was born in the United Kingdom, daughter of the late Robert Louis and Caroline Marshall, and she was raised at Tooting in London. She survived the bombing of London during World War II. She moved to the United States in 1957, and served for many years as administrative assistant to the physician-in-chief at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Following her retirement, she divided her time, residing both in Philadelphia and Ryde, until she moved to Dover in 1987, where she lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Peace of Philadelphia.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Steven Schwartz of Dover, with whom she lived; a son, George Robert Bailey of Exmouth in Devon, U.K.; and five grandchildren, Benjamin Schwartz, Joshua Schwartz and Rebecca Schwartz of Dover, and John Bailey and Karen Davies of the United Kingdom.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Blood Bank of Delaware, 100 Hygeia Drive, Newark, DE 19713; or to Delaware Hospice Central Division, 911 S. Du Pont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
Retired Col. John T. 'Jack' Gleason
LEWES - Retired Col. John "Jack" T. Gleason, formerly of Fort Washington, Md., died Friday, March 16, 2001, in his home in Lewes after a long illness.
Col. Gleason was born in 1936 in South Amboy, N.J., the son of John T. and Evelyn Gleason.
He attended St. Mary's Grammar School and High School in South Amboy, N.J. He received a congressional appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He graduated from West Point with a B.S, in engineering in 1957 and received an MBA from the University of Connecticut at Storrs in 1964.
During his 28 years in the Air Force, Col. Gleason was a pilot with the Strategic Air Command, served two tours of duty in Vietnam and attended the Aerospace Research Test Pilot School. He also graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at the National War College. He was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base and served at the Pentagon with Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Col. Gleason was a member of the West Point Alumni Association and the Reserve Officer Association.
Following his retirement from the military he worked with IBM for 10 years. He was a member of MENSA and especially enjoyed going to the MENSA meetings and participating in their scuba diving trips.
Col. Gleason was a member of the Maryland State Republican club, a past president of the Southern Prince George's County Republican Club and served as a member of the Republican Central Committee.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Irene Wallace Gleason; three children, Maureen, and her husband, Bruce Bryant, of Clarksville, Md., John Kevin, and his wife, Kristin Rohm, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Diane Gleason of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Gail, and her husband, Bill Milgram, and their children, Lynn, and her husband, Guy Mayor, and Anne Milgram; and three grandchildren, Mallorie Calvert, Ellen Rohm Gleason and Colin Rohm Gleason.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Lee's Funeral Home, in Clinton, Md.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Arlington National Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions may be made in his memory to the Tunnel Cancer Center, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes.

Teresa Annette 'Tree' Green, 30
RHODESDALE, Md. - Teresa "Tree" Annette Green of Rhodesdale died Thursday, March 15, 2001, in the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore. She was 30.
Ms. Green was born April 23, 1970, in Dorchester General Hospital, the daughter of Rosemary Green of Cambridge and Jacob Green Jr. of Hurlock.
She attended public schools in Dorchester. She was a graduate of North Dorchester High School, class of 1989.
For a number of years she was an employee of Allen's Food in Hurlock. Her most recent employer was Cold Water Seafood in Cambridge.
Ms. Green was a member of the Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church and was baptized in Jesus' name in July 1998. To know her was to love her. She had a smile that would light up a room.
She was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Josephine Aldridge and Verdelle Green; and a grandfather, Melvin Aldridge Sr.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Kiante' Wongus of Rhodesdale; grandfather, Jacob Green Sr. of Hurlock; two sisters, Serbrina Green and Feltia Friend, both of Federalsburg; a niece; five nephews; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and a special friend, Derrick Wongus.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Hurlock.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Greater Mount Zion Pentecostal Church, Hurlock. Bishop Chester Friend will officiate.
Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery, Hurlock.
Alan Clark Lanning, 53
GREENSBORO, Md. - Alan Clark Lanning of Greensboro died of natural causes Monday, March 19, 2001, in Ft. Howard Veterans Hospital, Baltimore. He was 53.
Mr. Lanning was born Nov. 1, 1947, in Baltimore, the son of William and Emily Spangler Lanning of Greensboro.
He was a graduate of Glen Burnie High School.
Mr. Lanning was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam.
He had worked as a foreign car mechanic in Glen Burnie.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Stuart Lanning of Columbia; a son, Cristian Lanning of Greensboro; and two grandchildren, Mark Lanning and Megan Lanning, both of Greensboro.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Eastern Shore Veteran Cemetery, Hurlock.

Bertha L. Miller, 85
DENTON, Md. - Bertha L. Miller of Denton died Monday, March 19, 2001, in Homestead Manor in Denton. She was 85.
Ms. Miller was born in Broadbrook, Conn., the only daughter of the late Charles G. Miller and Anna Marie Miller.
In 1919, she moved with her family to Greensboro, and in 1965 she moved to Denton.
After graduating from Greensboro High School, she attended Drakes Business College in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She had worked at the Pet Milk Co. in Greensboro, as a secretary for the Caroline County Health Department and had worked for the University of Maryland Extension Service. For 23 years she was a financial secretary for the Caroline County board of education, retiring in 1976.
For many years, Ms. Miller sang in the choirs at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Greensboro and St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton.
Ms. Miller was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club during her working years. After she retired, she was an aspiring writer and created puzzles primarily for the Caroline Review. She was also a member of the Eastern Shore Writer's Association and the Caroline County American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 915.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 South Second St. in Denton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at a later date in Ellington Cemetery in Ellington, Conn.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Denton, MD 21629; or to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 364, Denton, MD 21629.
