Dr. John F. Glenn Jr., 85
MILFORD - Dr. John F. Glenn Jr. of Milford died Monday, March 26, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 85.
Dr. Glenn was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late John F. and Marian Wilkinson Glenn.
He was a 1932 graduate of Frankfort High School in Philadelphia, where he was a member of the All-High School Orchestra. He graduated in 1936 with a degree in chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, and received his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Delaware in 1957.
Dr. Glenn was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in both the Medical Corps and the Transportation Department. After his tour of duty, he remained active in the Army Reserves, retiring in the 1960s as a lieutenant colonel.
He moved to Milford in 1936 to join L.D. Caulk Co. as a research chemist, where he worked in both Milford and in York, Pa., traveling extensively throughout the world for the company.
Dr. Glenn authored numerous papers and contributed several chapters to professional books, and was awarded several patents for products he developed. He retired in 1978 as director of dental research.
After retiring he established a vineyard in Milford and grew his own grapes to make wine, which he bottled under the Ginjohn label.
He was an avid wood worker, gardener and a collector of many things.
Dr. Glenn was a member of the Milford Senior Center, a charter member of the Milford Chapter of the AARP, where he actively championed senior legislation in the Delaware Legislature, and a mentor at Milford High School. He was a member of the Chemistry Honor Society at the University of Delaware, a 50-year member of Christ Episcopal Church in Milford and served on the Milford school board in the 1960s. He was also a former board member and one of the founders of Kent-Sussex Industries, the Delaware State Nursing Board,and the Arthritis Foundation. He was an organizer of the Adult Evening School at Milford High School and an instructor at the Milford School of Nursing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Glenn, in 1998.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John F. III and Brenda V. Glenn; a daughter and son-in-law, Lesley G. and Dr. Frederick Cochran of Los Alamos, N.M.; a sister, Doris Glenn of Dover; five grandchildren, Julie Phillips, Sara Glenn, Erin Glenn, Kaitlin Glenn and John H. Cochran; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Glenn Phillips.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church, 200 N. Church St. in Milford.
Burial will be in the adjoining churchyard.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Milford Public Library, 11 S.E. Front St., Milford, DE 19963.

James A. Lemmons, 72
FELTON - James A. Lemmons of Felton died of heart failure Sunday, March 25, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 72.
Mr. Lemmons was born in Red Wing, Minn.
He served for more than 25 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1977 as a tech sergeant. He had served with the 39th Airborne Squadron and received the Korean War Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the U.N. and the G.C. Service Medals.
He moved to Dover in 1956 and will be remembered by his friends for his love for boating, cooking and gardening.
Mr. Lemmons was a member of the Delaware Aero Modelers Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Sue Littleton Lemmons, in 1999.
He is survived by two sons and their wives, James A. and Barbara Lemmons of Clovis, N.M., and Matthew O. and Susan Lemmons of Magnolia; two brothers, Gene Lemmons of Arizona and Larry Lemmons of Illinois; a sister, Diane Pervin of Minnesota; his mother-in-law, Theresa Berndt of Coeur-d'Alene, Idaho; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Chico.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St. in Dover.
Robert 'Bob' V. Lottmann, 60
LEWES - Robert "Bob" V. Lottmann of Lewes died Monday, March 26, 2001, in Georgetown Hospital, Washington, D.C. He was 60.
Mr. Lottmann was born in St. Louis.
He graduated from Webster Grove High school in St. Louis. He then attended Purdue University in Indiana. After graduating, he moved to Washington D.C., where he obtained a law degree from George Washington University.
He began his 32-year career with the U.S. government, first with the U.S. Patent Office and later for NASA. He moved to Lewes in 1994, where he and his wife began Sun Up Enterprises.
He is survived by his wife, Terri Lottmann of Lewes; two sons, Andy Lottmann of San Francisco and Michael McCarron of Wilmington; three daughters, Anne Lottmann of San Francisco, Linden Lottmann of Italy and Sarah McCarron of Lewes; a sister, Janet Larsen of St. Louis; two brothers, Jim Lottmann of Chicago; and William Hellmich of St. Louis.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1499 Kings Highway, Lewes.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Father Driss Knickerbocker will be officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
Clara D. McLennon, 91
EASTON, Md. - Clara D. McLennon of Easton died Sunday, March 25, 2001, in Meridian House in the Pines in Easton. She was 91.
Ms. McLennon was born Dec. 19, 1909, in Louise, Va., the daughter of the late William and Betty Johnson.
Her last employment was as a custodian at the WCEI Radio Station in Easton.
Ms. McLennon was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church of Easton, where she served as a member of the senior stewardess board, the senior choir, the women's missionary society, the lay organization and the Bethelites. She was also a charter member of the Jackson Jubilee Singers.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy D. Spears, and her husband, Herbert, of Alexandria, Va.; two granddaughters, Judith Mutunga, and her husband, Edwin, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Bonita Spears of Alexandria; a great-grandson, Edwin D. Mutunga; and other relatives and friends.
Service will be noon Friday at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Easton, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Richards Memorial Park in Easton.

Mattie Ruth Mezick, 88
DENTON, Md. - Mattie Ruth Mezick of Denton died Monday, March 26 2001, in Memorial Hospital in Easton She was 88.
Mrs. Mezick was born July 6, 1912, on Hunting Creek Farm near Choptank, the daughter of the late Levi and Mattie Perry Voshell.
After graduating from Salisbury Normal School, she taught school in Harmony and Denton for many years.
Mrs. Mezick was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton. She contributed to the community by serving on the boards of the Women's Club of Denton and the Caroline County Garden Club. She was a member of the Republican Women's Club, as well as a founding member of the Stroke Club. She was well known for nurturing one of the prettiest gardens in Denton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard McQuay Mezick, in 1987; three brothers, C. Wesley Voshell, William H. Voshell and Perry D. Voshell; and a sister, Mary Rebecca Maine Voshell.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Thom and Kathy Mezick of New London, Ohio, and Dick and Jennie Mezick of Harmony; a daughter, Mary M. McClelland, and her husband, Don, of Arlington; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Fifth and Franklin Streets in Denton.
Burial will be private.

Clara Victor 'Mrs. Clara' Miller, 94
DOVER - Clara Victor "Mrs. Clara" Miller of Dover died after a lengthy illness Friday, March 23, 2001, in her home. She was 94.
Mrs. Miller was born Feb. 22, 1907, in Rising Sun, the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Prattis.
She received her education in the Star Hill School District.
Most of Mrs. Miller's employment included domestic work, fruit packing and babysitting.
Her hobbies were collecting bells, crocheting and knitting. She was a mentor for many young adults with her kind smile, words of encouragement, advice and wisdom.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Dover and attended faithfully until her health began to fail.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Jeanette Brown, Frances Woodlin and Marguerite Prattis; a son, Walden Miller; a grandson Jarrell L. Berry; a devoted friend, Norman Jackson; and her husband, Rodney Miller,
She is survived by two sons, Donald Miller of Wilmington and Aaron Miller of Dover; a daughter, Phyllis Berry Scott of Dover; two nephews and a niece, whom she helped raise, Walter Miller of Wilmington, Gordon Woodlin and Lois Beecher, both of Dover; a special adopted daughter and friend, Pearl Sherman of Tyler, Texas; two daughters-in-law: Elizabeth Mitchell of Dover and Jeraldine Miller of Wilmington; two sisters-in-law, Bernice and Elizabeth Miller, both of Wilmington; four lifelong friends that were like sisters, Laura B. Waters of Dover, Ella Downes of Englewood, N.J., Eugenia Anderson of Queens, N.Y., and Annie Harris of Smyrna; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, neighbors, adopted families and friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to service.
Burial will be in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Dover.
Gus M. Miale, 72
MILFORD - Gus M. Miale of Milford, formerly of Lincoln, R.I., died Sunday, March 25, 2001, in his home. He was 72.
Mr. Miale was born in Bronx, N.Y., the son of the late Vito and Margaret (Zelenka) Miale.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as both a drill instructor and an Army ranger during three tours of duty in South Korea.
He left military service in 1962 to work as a maintenance supervisor at both Lincoln Bowling Lanes in Lincoln, R.I., and Lang's Bowlerama in Cranston, R.I., until 1978, when he moved to Milford. He also worked at Milford Bowling Lanes from 1978 until 1988. He moved back to Lincoln, again working at Lincoln Lanes, until retiring in 1991.
Mr. Miale retired to Milford, where he lived until his death.
He enjoyed bowling and was an avid fan of the following New York teams, the football Giants, the Rangers, the Yankees and the Knicks.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher M. Miale of Lincoln, R.I., and Victor M. Miale of Cumberland, R.I., a daughter, Catherine Miale-Johnson of Aliejo Vista, Calif.; three grandchildren; and his close friends, Allen and Sharon Jester of Milford.
Service and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

David Allen Minus, 61
PHILADELPHIA - David Allen Minus of Philadelphia died of natural causes March 24, 2001, in Willow Terrace Nursing Home, Philadelphia. He was 61.
Mr. Minus was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Philadelphia, the son of the late Emily Minus and Frederick Minus.
He was in the Army Reserves.
He was educated at William Henry, Dover.
Mr. Minus was a member of Zion Morning Star Lodge 48.
He is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Allen, Emily Minus and Ellen Williams, all of New Jersey; three grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Fredric L. and Faye Minus of Trenton, N.J., Samuel L. and Judy Dixon of Dover, Del., and Leo E. and Clara Dixon of Bristol, Pa.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at M.F. Chase Unity Memorial Church, Star Hill, Del., where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Dr. Samuel L. Dixon will officiate.
Burial will be in Fork Branch Cemetery.
Arrangement are made by Minus Funeral Home, Dover.
