Louise Ann Shufelt, 62
LEWES - Louise Ann Shufelt of Lewes died Monday, March 26, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 62.
Ms. Shufelt had worked for the past 14 years for Donut Connection in the Midway Shopping Center.
She enjoyed going to the slots and loved animals.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy L. Shufelt of Lewes and Beverly Tikiob of Lincoln; two sons, William L. Shufelt of Ellendale and Robert E. Shufelt of Lincoln; and five grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Charlie Arnold will officiate.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Tunnell Cancer Center, Beebe Medical Center, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.

Frances L. 'Franny' 'Aunt Frances' Smith, 81
DOVER - Frances L. "Franny", "Aunt Frances" Smith of Dover, and formerly of Harrington, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in the home of her caretaker and friend, Mrs. Joyce Bordley of Dover. She was 81.
Mrs. Smith was a domestic employee for various private families in New Jersey, Baltimore and Harrington. She retired after many faithful and dedicated years of service.
She loved to write and read poetry. She often would mail poems to her friends and loved ones throughout the world. She enjoyed calling her friends and neighbors no matter where they resided, and she looked forward to private Bible studies with these friends by telephone. Another joy of her life was when the young people of her church would visit her home and give her private concerts within her home or in her yard. Her biggest joy was watching the videos of, and listening to the gospel tapes of, the Sermonettes from her church.
Mrs. Smith was a devout member of The Mount Carmel Seventh Day Adventist Church of Harrington, where she joined in 1983. Prior to her failing health and physical disability, she was a member of the senior choir.
In addition to her caretaker, she is survived by a brother, James Deputy of Wilmington; special and devoted friends, William L. and Mary L. Parker of Harrington; and a host of nieces, nephews and her extended church family.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Carmel Seventh Day Adventist Church, 103 Mechanic St. in Harrington, where friends may call two hours prior to service. Aaron J. Thompkins Sr., the church pastor, will officiate.

Laura M. Tingle, 89
SEAFORD - Laura M. Tingle of Seaford died Friday, March 23, 2001, in her home. She was 89.
Mrs. Tingle was the daughter of the late Amanda Shockley Trader and Lorenzo Powell.
She was a domestic worker until December 1997.
Mrs. Tingle was a former member Burton Chapel A.M.E. Church, Milton.
She enjoyed going on trips and different church functions. She loved her family very dearly and always attended the gatherings they had when she was able to.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, George E. Tingle, in 1974; a daughter, Novella Roach; a son, Lorenzo Macklin; a granddaughter, Fondella L. Roach; and a step-great-grandson, Orlando Pettyjohn.
She is survived by a daughter, Pearl A. Harmon of Seaford; a stepdaughter, Annie Pettyjohn of Seaford; a stepson, Layfield Pettyjohn of Seaford; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins and friends.
Viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Seaford.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Cathedral of Deliverance, Concord.

Hughes G. Whittington Sr., 90
WILMINGTON - Hughes G. Whittington Sr. of Wilmington, and formerly of Galena, Md., died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Sunbridge Nursing Home, Elkton, Md. He was 90.
Mr. Whittington retired in 1976 from Governor Bacon Hospital after 20 years of service. He had earlier worked at the Kitty Knight House as a cook.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Martin Whittington, in 1997.
He is survived by five children, Hazel Young and Agnes Wesley, both of Fredericktown, Md., Thelma Primous of Gainesville, Fla., and Betty Thompson and Hughes Whittington. Jr., both of Wilmington; a sister, Theresa Miller of Wilmington; 41 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 15 great great grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. in Galena, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in the Olivet Hill Cemetery.

Mattie A. Wilkins, 93
GEORGETOWN - Mattie A. Wilkins of Georgetown, formerly of Millsboro, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 93.
Mrs. Wilkins was born in Georgetown, the daughter of the late Ira H. and Julia Daisey Parker.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Wilkins was affiliated with the Carey's United Methodist Church, Millsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie H. Wilkins, in 1970; and a son, Reese T. Wilkins, in 1988.
She is survived by three daughters and son-in-laws, Irene W. and Tom Scott of Laurel, Judy W. and Edward Keeler and Joyce W. and Marty Westen, all of Georgetown; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Watson's Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Edward Wilkins will officiate.
Burial will be in Carey's Cemetery, Millsboro.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the Carey's United Methodist Church; or Carey's Camp, C/O Josephine Dorey, R.D. 9, Box 321, Millsboro, DE 19966.

A. Isabelle Fowler Bartz, 90
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - A. Isabelle Fowler Bartz of Chestertown died of natural causes Thursday, March 27, 2003, in Magnolia Hall Nursing Home in Chestertown. She was 90.
Mrs. Bartz was born May 31, 1912, in Worton, daughter of the late Elwood and Anna Mae Elburn Fowler.
She was educated at Flatland Elementary School and graduated from Chestertown High School with the class of 1929. She attended Salisbury State Teachers College (now Salisbury University) and taught school in Salisbury for two years. She then attended Strayer Bryant and Stratton Business School.
Mrs. Bartz was employed by the Farmers Home Administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 32 years, retiring in 1973.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and researching genealogy.
Following her retirement, Mrs. Bartz served as secretary of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Chestertown,
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Emil Bartz, in 1977.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Bartz Capel and Marie Bartz, both of Chestertown; numerous nephews and nieces on her husband's side; and numerous cousins.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where relatives and friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Eleanor Laws will officiate.
Burial will be in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Christ United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 262, Chestertown, MD 21620.

Richard Blades, 53
SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Richard Blades of Sudlersville died of natural causes Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 53.
Mr. Blades was born Jan. 30, 1950, in Easton.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Blades worked for the past 25 years as a welder for Metal Masters in Clayton, Del.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Blades.
He is survived by his mother, Lorraine Mosley of Washington state; a daughter, April Johnson of Camden, Del.; two sons, Richard Blades Jr. and Roman Blades, both of Sudlersville; a brother, Kenneth Blades of Easton; his companion of 15 years, Terry Bowers; and a granddaughter, Jada Johnson.
Services and burial will be private.

Bette L. Hedstrom Chaffinch, 70
SEAFORD - Bette L. Hedstrom Chaffinch of Seaford died peacefully, after a short battle with cancer, Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in her home. She was 70.
Mrs. Chaffinch was an active member of the Nanticoke Senior Center.
She is survived by her husband, Wilson "Pete" Chaffinch; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Wayne and Saundra More of Seaford and Kirk and Linda Hedstrom of Greenwood; a daughter, Vicki Dorey, and Ms. Dorey's companion, Rob Jefferson, both of Seaford; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gladys and Ken Graham of Seaford; two brothers-in-law, Jack and Howard Chaffinch of Blades; her mother-in-law, Mary Chaffinch of Blades; seven brothers, Joe Parker, O. Parker, Donald Parker and Jerry Parker, all of Georgetown, Dale Parker of Blades and Ralph Parker and Richard Parker, both of Laurel; three sisters, Doris Moore of Oak Orchard, Pat Harris of Seaford and Janet Ware of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Brian Dorey, Justin Dorey, Beau Moore, Nicole Moore, Nadine Moore and Kristen Hedstrom; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice Inc., 600 Du Pont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Andy Chupp Sr., 88
GREENWOOD - Andy Chupp Sr. of Greenwood died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in his home. He was 88.
Mr. Chupp was born Jan. 23, 1915, in Arthur, Ill., son of the late John and Martha (Stutzman) Chupp.
He was a carpenter.
Mr. Chupp was a member of Cannon Mennonite Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister; six brothers; and a great-grandchild.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eva Byler Chupp; seven children and their respective spouses, Molly and Mickey Lauck, Menno and Dorothy Chupp and Carl and Susan Chupp, all of Greenwood, Evalina and Bob Kopp of Harrington, Andrew and Kathy Chupp and Lydia and Richard Trice, all of Seaford, and Steve and Marcia Chupp of Georgetown; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Menno Chupp of Arthur.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Cannon Mennonite Church, Del. 18, one mile west of U.S. 13.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the church, where friends also may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
