Edith Mae Bratton, 87
MILLSBORO - Edith Mae Bratton, formerly of Claymont, died of heart failure on Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Bratton was born in Schmokin, Pa., the daughter of the late, Clarence and Mary Llewellyn.
She was a retired hairdresser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Bratton, in 1987.
She is survived by three sisters, Mary Finley of Millsboro, Margaret Rodarmel of Prospect Park, Pa., and Edna Herb of Manhein, Pa.; two brothers, Clarence Llewellyn of Wilmington and Charles Llewellyn of Sunbury, Pa.; and 26 nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2001 at St. marks Episcopal Church in Millsboro. Burial will be private.

Mary J. Brockley, 95
EARLEVILLE, Md. - Mary J. Brockley of Eartevil1e died January 1, 2001, in Union Hospital. She was 95.
Mrs. Brockley was born on Dec. 15 1906, the daughter of the late Oliver and Mary William Mullan.
She and her husband, Bruce Brockley, owned and operated Holly Hill Christmas Tree Farm and Nursery in Earleville since 1953, which is still managed by her family.
Mrs. Brockley was the past president of the Women's Club of Cecil Co., a past member of the Cecil County Red Cross, and had volunteered at Union Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Bruce, in 1982.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Robert Farrow of Earleville; four grandchildren, David Farrow and John Farrow, both of Earleville, Michael Farrow of Warwick, and Amy Farrow of Galena; a sister, Jean Reed of Voorhees, N.J., and four great grandchild.
Graveside service will be private.

Thomas Donald Carter, 66
FELTON - Thomas Donald Carter of Felton died after a short illness, Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 66.
Mr. Carter was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Frederica, the son of Lucy Carter Postles of Felton and the late Thomas W. Clark.
He was educated at Reeve's Crossing Public School, Felton, and attended junior high school at Booker T. Washington school, and high school at Delaware State College (now University), both in Dover.
Mr. Carter served in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Turkey.
He worked for General Foods/ Kraft Foods in Dover for 35 years before retiring in October 1999. He also worked part-time for the J.C. Penney Co. for 15 years.
He enjoyed videography and photography. He owned his own business, "Carter's Video and Photography Inc."
Mr. Carter was a faithful member of St. James Union A.M.E. Church, Frederica, and served as president of the Trustee Board. He was a member of the Steward Board, and sang on the men's choir.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 38 years, Delema M. Burris-Carter; two sons, Donald A. Carter of Dover and Kevin D. Carter of Felton; two granddaughters, Cierra A. Cooper of Felton and Stephanie D. Walker of Philadelphia; a grandson, Kevin Carter Jr., of Harrington; his maternal sisters and brothers, Frances Johnson (Ronald) of Felton, Clara Pittman of Frederica and Arvil Jr. Postles, Felton; his paternal brothers and sisters, Thomas Clark (Mildred) of Dover, Dora Woodlin (Harold) of Philadelphia, Lida Jones of Milford, Lewis Clark (Audie Lee) of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Elizabeth Mitchell (Raymond), Barbara Morris, Robert Clark and Elmer Clark (Juanita), all of Dover, Patricia Taylor of Harrington, Tyrone Clark of Dover, Ronald Clark of Easton, Md., and Alfreda Clark of Philadelphia; three uncles, Milford Carter, Glenn Clark and George Clark; brothers-in-law, George Burris (Verdie) of Felton, Clarence C. Burris Jr. (Creola) of Milford; sisters-in-law, Frances Mosley (Herman) of Felton and Louise Burris of Wilmington; one goddaughter, Cheryl Pritchett, and her children, Matthew, Cherelle, Brian and Taylor); an aunt, Sadie Green of Felton, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and last but not least his number one cousin Charles 'Bubbie' Harris.
Service will be 11 a.m. at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Freddie E. Crockett Sr., 60
EARLEVILLE, Md. - Freddie E. Crockett Sr. of Earleville died of respiratory failure Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in his home. He was 60.
Mr. Crockett was born in Tangier, Va., the son of the late Fred Colson and Mary Ellen (Charnock) Crockett. He spent all his formative years in the Tangier area.
Mr. Crockett was employed by the U.S. government as a postal clerk. He worked at the Fort Meade Army base in that capacity for a period of 25 years, retiring in 1993.
He and his wife, Valarie, established residence in Earleville, where they had lived in their home for the past 25 years. They raised a family of two.
Mr. Crockett enjoyed his home and being with his family, and particularly enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, Mr. Crockett loved working with handcrafts, especially woodwork. He also enjoyed the treasures of Maryland's Eastern Shore, being an avid boater who enjoyed fishing and crabbing.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Valarie Crockett of Earleville; a son, Freddie E. Crockett Jr. of Earleville; a daughter, Stephanie Barlow of Elkton; a sister, Hettie Bowden of Tangier; and three grandchildren, Samantha Barlow, Victoria Barlow and Steven Barlow, all of Elkton.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. on Saturday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home PA, 226 E. Main St., Cecilton, MD.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

James E. Erwin Jr., 75
REHOBOTH BEACH - James E. Erwin Jr. of Rehoboth Beach, and formerly of West Chester, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in his home. He was 75.
Mr. Erwin was born in Bluefield, W.Va., the son of the late James E. Erwin Sr. and Fannie Harding Erwin.
He graduated from Virginia Tech in Virginia, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Mr. Erwin served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He lived in Rehoboth Beach for the past 14 years.
Mr. Erwin worked for the former Wilkening Manufacturing Co. in Philadelphia and the former Worthington Service, Inc., in Willow Grove.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed automobile racing and model railroad trains.
Mr. Erwin was a member of the V.F.W. in Rehoboth Beach, the Ocean View Singles Club, and the Senior Singles Club, both in Delaware.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Edna May Sale Erwin and Betty Joplin Erwin.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Davis of West Chester; three step-daughters, Barbara Wallace, Lynda Manley and Karen Pugh; a step-son, David Lee; two grandchildren, Courtney Davis and Cullen Davis; and seven step-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Founds Funeral Home, Inc., High and Union streets in West Chester, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Grove Methodist Cemetery, West Whiteland Township.

Esther Estella Graves, 82
POMONA, Md. - Esther Estella Graves died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in her home. She was 82.
Mrs. Graves was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Quaker Neck, the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Dorn.
She attended Henry Highland Garnett School.
She was employed for 20 years in Philadelphia by Charles P. Stokes, and for Mrs. Robert Atkinson for 30 years, and their nephew for two years.
Mrs. Graves was a member of Emmanuel Methodist Church of Pomona. She also was a member of the senior chorus, The Annual Dinner, The Young Adults Clubs and the Women's Society, and also attended the senior center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Graves; three brothers, Charles Dorn, Robert Dorn and McKinley Dorn; a sister, Mary Derry; a brother-in-law, Joseph Derry; and a grandson, Darrell Bordley.
She is survived by a daughter, Rader D. Steward, and son-in-law, Cleveland M. Steward Sr., of Chestertown; five grandchildren, Sandra Burton of Vineland, N.J., Coretta Y. Bordley of Worton, Rosalind Bordley of Newark, Del., Pandora Bordley of Chestertown and Harold Bordley Jr. of Barclay; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel Methodist Church, Pomona, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Gonzalee Matthews will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

William R. Hickson, 78
DOVER - William R. Hickson of Dover, formally of New York City, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in his home. He was 78.
Mr. Hickson was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Marion, S.C., the son of the late Walter Hickson and Annie O. Whitfield Hickson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with the rank of Staff Sgt. He received many medals of commendation. He was honorably discharged.
Mr. Hickson was a retired truck driver for various companies including 30 years with TR-AD-SE of Dover. He also worked part-time as the bus driver for Westminster Village.
He spent the last several years enjoying his hobby, which was photography.
Mr. Hickson was a member of Convent Avenue Baptist Church in New York City and a member of the DE Retirees Club and also a member of the American Legion Post 2.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, William and Sandra, Hickson; and three younger brothers, Levonia, Joseph and Earl Hickson.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Barbara Hickson of Dover; two sisters, Rev. Selma White and Dr. Lola Anderson and her husband Simon all of New York; a granddaughter Lucy Regina Hickson of New York; a grandson, Kenneth Hickson of Ga.; six aunts, a mother-in-law, five sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Friday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bibleway Temple C.O.G.I.C., 56 S. Kirkwood St., Dover.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in Veteran's Cemetery in Bear.
Frank G. Reed, 70
DOVER - Frank G. Reed of Dover, died Friday, April 6, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 70.
Mr. Reed was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Knoxville, Tenn., son of the late James E. and Lucy Floyd Reed.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years and had worked as a mechanic. He was a U.S. veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Most recently, he worked for Jen-Mor Florists, Dover, delivering flowers.
He was an avid photographer and enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Pack Reed, Sept. 14, 1996.
He is survived by a son, Christopher Reed and his wife, Michele, of Dover; two brothers, James A. Reed of Jacksonville, Fla., and John Reed of Knoxville; and two sisters, Jean Denno of Knoxville and Judy McClanahan of Maryville, Tenn.
A memorial gathering will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.

Catherine M. Wallace, 91
DOVER - Catherine M. Wallace of Dover died Friday, April 6, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 91.
Mrs. Wallace was born Feb. 8, 1910, in Easton, Pa., daughter of the late Frank and Edna (Shrope) Adam.
She was in food service at Delaware State College, Dover, and at the Capital School District, Dover, for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore R. Wallace.
She is survived by a son, Theodore R. Wallace of Locust Grove, Va.; a daughter, Sharon Garcia of Abilene, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A remembrance service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be in the Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Carolyn Nanette Wright, 44
DOVER - Carolyn Nanette Wright of Dover died Friday, April 6, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a lengthy illness. She was 44.
Ms. Wright was born March 29, 1957, in Reno, Nev., the second child of Esther Chapman Wright of Dover and the late George P. Wright.
Ms. Wright graduated from Dover High School in 1975. She attended Spelman College, Atlanta, and Howard University, Washington, D.C., before graduating from Delaware State College, Dover, in 1980.
After graduating from college, she moved to California, living in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Oakland, Calif.
Ms. Wright joined the Peace Corps in 1984, serving a year in Togo, West Africa.
After the Peace Corps, she returned to California, where she worked as a claims examiner for the Social Security Administration and for worker's compensation. Because of failing health, she retired to Phoenix. She lived in Phoenix for two years before returning to Dover in 1999.
Ms. Wright was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sisters, Robyn McCaskill and her husband, Dobie, of Tampa, Fla., Shirley Wright of Mableton, Ga., and Verna Bullard and her husband, Johnnie, of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany; a brother, George C. Wright and his wife, Sherry, of Dover; an uncle, Benjamin Wright of Charleston, S.C.; an aunt, Madeline Chapman of Charleston; and a host of other relatives and friends.
An Omego Omego service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, Dover. A service will also be held at noon Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
John Reuben Allen Jr., 51
SEAFORD - John Reuben Allen Jr., chief financial officer of Allen Family Foods of Seaford, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in his home after a long battle with progressive congestive heart failure. He was 51.
Mr. Allen was born Nov. 28, 1951, in Lewes, to the late Sally Foster Allen and John Reuben Allen Sr. of Seaford.
He was a graduate of the Peddie School in Hightstown, N.J., where he was captain of the baseball and golf teams. In 1973 he received his bachelor of science degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity and valuable member of the golf team. From there he continued on to earn his M.B.A. from the University of Miami in 1975.
He married Susan in March of 1975, and together made their home in Seaford, where he joined his father, John, uncles, Charles C. Allen Jr. and Warren L. Allen, and his cousins, Chick and Warren Jr., in running the family business. Allen Family Foods was founded in 1919 by Mr. Allen's grandfather, C. Clarence Allen Sr., and Nellie G. Allen, and has since grown from a small family owned poultry business to the 16th largest operation in the industry.
Mr. Allen was a devoted father and husband. He was well respected among the community on both a personal and professional level. He enthusiastically enjoyed offshore marlin fishing and was an excellent golfer. He had many friends with whom he enjoyed these activities. He participated in the White Marlin Open fishing tournament in Ocean City, Md., for more than 25 years. Mr. Allen was an active member of the Ocean City Marlin Club and the Ocean City Light Tackle Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Susan Sabo Allen; and three children, Kelly Noel, Lindsay Christine and John Reuben III.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. John's Methodist Church in Seaford.

CLARKSVILLE - Makayla R. Dunston of Clarksville died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children. She was an infant.
She is survived by her parents, Sean and Cindy Schwab Dunston; her maternal grandparents, Marie Schwab and Phillip Dennis; paternal grandparents, Oscar Dunston and Patricia Scribner; a sister, Victoria; three aunts, Wendy Wisniewski, Robin Jarvis and Thelma Yates; and four uncles, Charles Wisniewski, Thomas Jarvis Jr., Kevin Brightwell and Norman Brightwell.
Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday in the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue in Ocean View, where friends may call two hours earlier.

Thomas E. Elliott, 53
GREENWOOD - Thomas E. Elliott of Greenwood died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was 53.
Mr. Elliott was born to Charles K. Elliott Sr. of Greenwood and the late Nancy Elliott, who died in 1993.
He was a delivery driver for farms and agriculture.
Mr. Elliott was a member and past commander of the VFW in Greenwood and worked the chicken barbecue.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Midge Breeding, in 1996.
In addition to his father, he is survived by a brother, Charles K. Elliott Jr. of Greenwood; a nephew, John Elliott of Greenwood; and a niece, Amy Robb of Greenwood.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville.

William B. Getty, 70
EARLEVILLE, Md. - William B. Getty of Long Point, Earleville, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in his home. He was 70.
Mr. Getty was born June 22, 1932, in West Chester, Pa., son of the late Harry and Mary Frances Garris Getty.
He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during the Korean War, receiving several citations, including the Korean Service Metal with a Bronze Star.
For 36 years Mr. Getty worked for Amatex Corp. in Norristown, retiring in 1989 as a superintendent and maintenance engineer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Falco Getty, in 1998; and a brother, Allen Getty.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Trudy of Earleville and Michael and Jane of Long Point; a daughter; Deborah Colmery of Crystal Beach; a brother, Kenneth of Middletown, Del.; two sisters, Barbara Sabrouch of Lecanto, Fla., and Joyce Hamberg of Smyrna, Del.; her mother-in-law, Caroline Falco of Norristown; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Betty G. Green, 81
MILFORD - Betty G. Green of Milford died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in Harbor Health Care, Lewes. She was 81.
Mrs. Green was born March 13, 1922, in Pinebluff, N.C., daughter of the late Paul M. and Juanita McDonald Guild.
She was employed for 18 years by Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone in Silver Spring, Md., and handled their government accounts in the billing office. She retired in 1985.
After moving to Milford, she participated in volunteer services for 10 years with Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Green, in 1997.
She is survived by two sons, Bryan R. Green of Columbia, Md., and Robert P. Green of Port St. John, Fla.; two daughters, Nancy E. Carrigg of Milford and Beryl J. Lowman of Baltimore; a brother, Chester Guild of Adelphi, Md.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md.
