George H. Connard, 68
MILTON - George H. Connard of Milton died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in his son's home. He was 68.
Mr. Connard worked for General Foods in Dover for 36 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Milton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Hockenbury Connard, in 1992.
He is survived by two sons, David A. Van Pelt of Milton and Harry J. Van Pelt of Reisterstown, Md.; two daughters, Karen Lindley of Ellenwood, Ga., and Roseann Caraway of Georgetown; and five grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
The family suggests memorial contributions to: American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.

Edgar G. Cole, 93
MIDWAY - Edgar G. Cole of Midway, and formerly of Woodlawn, Md., died of natural causes Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, in Lewes Convalescent Center. He was 93.
The Coles moved in May 1981 to Rehoboth Beach on Old Landing Road, having summered in Rehoboth Beach since 1932.
Mr. Cole worked 32 years for the Western Electric, Point Breeze Works in Baltimore, retiring Dec. 1, 1972.
When transferring from Woodlawn Lions Club, he became a member of Rehoboth Beach Lions Club. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow award for outstanding community service, plus a special award for 50 years of service to the Lions Club in 1998. He was an elder in the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Neva Hyatt of Glen Burnie, Md., who died Dec. 19, 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary; two sons and their wives, Charles W. and Joan Cole of Jarrettsville, Md., and Edgar G. Jr. and Joyce Cole of Randallstown, Md.; a daughter and her husband, Lynn and Jake Warrington of Rehoboth Beach; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Parsell Funeral Home and Crematorium, Atkins Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes.
Burial was private.

Helen Doud Koziski, 78
CAMDEN - Helen Doud Koziski of Camden died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark. She was 78.
Mrs. Koziski was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Elyria, Ohio, the daughter of the late Louise Doud and Frank C. Doud Sr.
She graduated from Caesar Rodney High School, Camden, in the class of 1939.
Mrs. Koziski worked short periods for Henry Ridgely Law Office, Dover, and the Camden Post Office. She took her formal retirement from Playtex of Dover, with 23 years of service, in 1982.
After retirement, Mrs. Koziski enjoyed life as a homemaker, and was an avid bridge player and a member of the local bridge club.
Mrs. Koziski was a charter member of the Camden-Wyoming Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Frances McQuown, in 1986.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Michael D. Koziski; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Hannah Koziski; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Tom Norwood of Milford; two brothers, Frank Doud of Chicago and Jack J. Conway Jr. of Coconut, Fla.; a sister, Dorothea Gray of Wyoming; three grandchildren, Kimberly Norwood of Milford and Miles Norwood and Michelle Warren, both of Milton; three great-randchildren, Tyler Norwood of Milford and Brock Layton and Haley Norwood, both of Milton.
Service will be noon Thursday at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friend may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Frank O. Sutton will officiate.
Burial be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Wilma J. Bader, 54
NEWARK - Wilma J. Bader of Newark died of emphysema Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 54.
Mrs. Bader was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia J. Skipper of Easton, Md., and Virginia Stadler; four siblings, Pat Tucker of Harrington, Albert Evens of Magnolia, James Evens of Milford and Margaret Kemp of Seaford; and six grandchildren, Jaren, Morgan, Vincent, Darian, Christina and Katelyn.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

Leonard J. Chojnacki, 85
SEAFORD - Leonard J. Chojnacki of Seaford died of congestive heart failure Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Life Care at Lofland Park, Seaford. He was 85.
Mr. Chojnacki lived in Newark, N.J., most of his life.
He worked for Adley Trucking Co. in New Jersey for more than 30 years.
He was a avid fisherman and loved bowling.
Mr. Chojnacki was a member of Teamster Local 478 and 560.
He is survived by two half-sisters, Mary Manco of Belmar, N.J., and Julie Gallagher of Kearny, N.J.
Service will be 11 a.m. today at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

Wanda Purnell Corbin, 45
SELBYVILLE - Wanda Purnell Corbin of Selbyville died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, in Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. She was 45.
Mrs. Corbin was born in Selbyville, the daughter of Hilda Handy Purnell and the late Glenmore Purnell.
She was a graduate of Indian River High School and attended Delaware Technical and Community College. Mrs. Corbin was employed as a nurse's assistant at Riverwalk Manor in Salisbury, Md., for 18 years and was also employed with Peninsula Regional Medical Center for a short time.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Fassett, and a brother, Michael Purnell.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Robert Corbin of Selbyville; two sisters, Denise Purnell of Selbyville and Virginia Briddell of Berlin, Md.; three nieces; four nephews; and several aunts and uncles.
Service will be 1 p.m. today at Zoar United Methodist Church in Selbyville, where friends may call one-hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Golden Acres Cemetery, Selbyville.

William G. Gorlich, 87
LAUREL - William G. Gorlich of Laurel died of Parkinson's Disease Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Country Rest Home, Greenwood. He was 87.
Mr. Gorlich was an electrician at Philadelphia Naval Base for 30 years, retiring in 1970.
He was a member of the Calvary U.M. Church and the Milford Senior Center Bowling League.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Warren, in 1988.
He is survived by a daughter, Deanna Munyon of Pottstown, Pa.; a son, James W. Gorlich of Laurel; a brother, Julius Gorlich Jr. of Georgetown; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Gladys Alicía Cancél Fairhurst, 70
DOVER - Gladys Alicía Cancél Fairhurst of Dover died Monday, April 9, 2001, in Kent General Hospital. She was 70.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril Fairhurst, in 1993; parents, José and Haydee Cancél; and two brothers, Fernando Cancél and Michael Cancél.
She is survived by her beloved children, Paget Rohrer, Gwen Smith, Leslye Jones, Eric Fairhurst, Ron Fairhurst, Glynis Fairhurst, Devon Fairhurst, and Dawn Fairhurst; her beloved brothers and sisters, Doris Torrillo, Naomi Cancél, Minerva Cancél, and Harry Cancél; eight grandchildren, Dana Adams, Trina Harrison, Ashley Miller, Erika Miller, Kaysha Jones, Renell Jones, Alyssa Fairhurst and Dylan Fairhurst; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Adams and Danielle Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Delaware Alzheimer's Association, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.

Shrell Lynn Myers, 29
OAK HALL, Va. - Shrell Lynn Myers of Oak Hall died Friday, April 6, 2001, in her home. She was 29.
Ms. Myers was born July 27, 1971, in Philadelphia, the daughter of James Earl Pinkard of Withams and the late Martha Ann Myers.
As a child, she came from Philadelphia to New Church to live with her paternal grandmother Helen Pinkard. She spent many happy years playing with her siblings and cousins.
She often attended Mt. Zion Independent Methodist Church with her grandmother. After her grandmother's illness, she moved in with her father and his wife Mary Pinkard Houston.
She received her education in Accomack Public School, graduating from Arcadia High School.
She went to work for Perdue Farms after graduation in Accomac.
She was married to Christopher Matthews from 1992 to 1995 and from this union one child was born, Crystal. She returned home to her parents, where her daughter Zenea was born. She and her two daughters stayed with her parents until their death.
In addition to her father and his wife, she is survived by six brothers, Harry Pinkard, Maurice Pinkard, Tommy Brown, Jermaine Brown, and Deandria Brown all of Oak Hall, and Larry Bailey of Nelsonia; six sisters, Rita Ann Pinkard of Cherry, N.C., Tracy Myers and Angela Myers both of Philadelphia, Melisa Johnson and Pamala Justice both of Trenton, N.J., and Theresa Lassiter of Mappsville; three grandmothers, Hattie Houston, Martha Myers, and Elizabeth Dickerson; two grandfathers, Edmond Myers and Zed Wise; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Pocomoke City, Md.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Arcadia High School in Oak Hall.
Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Withams.

Zenea Nicole ‘Nuby' Myers, 3
WITHAMS, Va. - Zenea Nicole "Nuby" Myers of Withams died Friday, April 6, 2001, in her home. She was 3.
Zenea was born March 14, 1998, the daughter of Jonathan Bell and the late Shrell Lynn Myers.
She was a loving and active child. Everyone that knew her loved her. She was extremely close to her grandfather, James. They were like Mutt and Jeff, when you saw one you saw the other. She was also close to her great-aunt Rosetta, who was her other mother.
Zenea's life was short, but very loving. She touched a lot of people's lives.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her paternal grandparents, John and Peggy Bell; her maternal grandparents, James Pinkard and Mary Pinkard Houston; a brother, Jonathan Bell Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Pocomoke City, Md.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Arcadia High School in Oak Hall.
Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Withams.

Jarvis S. Rich Jr., 78
RIDGELY, Md. - Jarvis S. Rich Jr. of Ridgely died of natural causes Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Easton, Easton. He was 78.
Mr. Rich was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Chester. Pa., son of the late Jarvis S. and Gertrude Rich Sr.
He was a lifetime resident of this area.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Rich worked at Grasonville Fisheries as a laborer.
He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Ann Rich of Greensboro; a granddaughter, Recniequia Rich of Greensboro.
Friends may call from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A., Greensboro.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Eastern Shore Veteran Cemetery, Hurlock.

Richard E. 'Dick' Koch, 66
HENDERSON, Md. - Richard E. "Dick" Koch of Henderson died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in his home. He was 66.
Mr. Koch was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Maiden Creek Township, Pa., son of the late Eugene Koch and Edna Moll Koch.
He was self-employed as a canvas man.
He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, NASCAR, wrestling, baseball, football and all of the grandchildrens' activities.
Mr. Koch was a member of Spritzers Hunting Camp and the Pennsylvania Snowmobile Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Koch, on April 26, 1989 and a sister, Dolly Renninger.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gene and Rhonda Koch of Hartly, Del. and Kevin Koch, and his friend, Kena, of North East; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jerry Bartlett of Dover, Del.; eight grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond E. Koch, Ronald E. Koch and Robert E. Koch, all of Schuykill Haven, Pa. and Roy E. Koch of St. Clair, Pa.; and Shirley Kenderdine, Auburn and Gloria Reiner, all of Tower City, Pa.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Crouch Funeral Home, 127 S. Main St., North East.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The Rev. Don Howard of Calvary Baptist Church, Clayton, will officiate.
Burial will be in Galena Cemetery, Galena.

Col. Elzey J. 'Joe' Arledge, 59
WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Col. Elzey J. "Joe" Arledge of Woodbridge died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Philadelphia, Miss. He was 59.
Col. Arledge collapsed of a heart attack while visiting with his family shortly after attending his mother's funeral in Mississippi.
Before his retirement in 1996, Col. Arledge was chief of logistics of the 261st Signal Command of the Delaware Army National Guard, headquartered in Dover. In civilian life, he is the longtime deputy chief of the full-time manpower division of the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C., where he was a GS-15.
He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 1965; served on active duty 1966-1968, serving a year in Vietnam; served in the Mississippi Army National Guard, 1972-1978 and in the Delaware National Guard 1978-1996. He was promoted to colonel in 1992. His total military service was 32 years.
He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and numerous other awards. He entered federal civilian service in 1973 and served with distinction for over 29 years.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, of Woodbridge; two sons, John Arledge of Richmond and Steve Burroughs of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; two grandchildren, Steven and Anna Burroughs; a sister, Betty Sue Arledge; and a brother, James Thomas Arledge, both of Philadelphia.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City.
Memorial services will be Tuesday in the Army National Guard Readiness Center, 111 South George Mason Drive, Arlington Hall Station, Arlington.
Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Birthright of Prince William County, 13406 Occoquan Road, Woodbridge, VA 22191- 1721 or to a charity of choice.

Virginia Dorothy Cole Fretz, 67
CLAYTON - Virginia Dorothy Cole Fretz of Clayton died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in her home. She was 67.
Mrs. Fretz was born April 26, 1935 in Townsend, daughter of the late Robert Ozel Cole Sr. and Dorothy McNatt Cole.
She worked as a sewing machine operator for Leeds Travelware for several years before retirement and enjoyed hunting, fishing and nature walks.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley L. Fretz; two sons, Richard M. and Joseph E. Fretz, both of Clayton; a brother, Robert O. Cole of Dover; a sister, Mona L. Cole of Clayton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

William G. 'Bill' Goldsborough Jr., 61
PORT ORANGE, Fla. - William G. 'Bill' Goldsborough Jr. of Port Orange, formerly of Dover, Del. and Marydel, Del., died after a lengthy battle with diabetes Monday, March 17, 2003, in Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach. He was 61.
Mr. Goldsborough was born in Wilmington, Del., son of the late William G. and Gertrude Greenhaugh Goldsborough.
He served his country in the United States Army Reserves where he was a sergeant and drill instructor. He received a letter of commendation in 1966 for his outstanding job performance and excellent training of the USAR recruits.
Mr. Goldsborough worked for Dover Trucking Co. for many years and then for Carl King, Inc. as a tanker driver and then a store manager until the time of his disability.
He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles fan. Because of his love for sports he played on several teams during his high school years at Dover High School and moved on to play with the Philadelphia Phillies farm league in the late 1950s and early 1960s. His love for sports continued in 1963 when he acted in a managerial position for several years for the Dover Little League. He also played on several softball teams all over Kent County.
He met and married Rae Charlotte (Markley) in July 1961 and moved to Marydel. He, along with several friends, established the Marydel Little League, one of his greatest accomplishments. He also enjoyed bowling and established the YABA at the Dover Bowl. He took great joy in teaching and watching his children and grandchildren in all their sports activities over the years and continued to participate in softball leagues into his later years until his illness prevented him playing.
Mr. Goldsborough was a life member of the Marydel Volunteer Fire Dept., where he held several offices over the years, including president, chief and rescue Captain. He also served as president of the Kent County Fire Chiefs Association and was very active in the Caroline County Volunteer Fireman's Association. He also was a field instructor at the Delaware State Fire School for several years. He belonged to the Marydel Lions Club and was also a third-degree Mason in Temple Lodge 128, Denton, Md.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary William, in 1973; his great aunt and uncle who raised him, Edward and Anne Dunlap; and a sister, Ruth W. Jackson.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rae (Markley) Charlotte; a son and daughter-in-law, Harry Edward and Katherine "Sam" Louise of Bunnell, Fla. and their children, Marine Lance Cpl. Harry Davis, Taryn Leazah, Shayna Renee, Amber Catherine and Nicole Lynn; a daughter, Sherry Rae Hamm and her fiancé, Richard "Rusty" Ray of Smyrna, Del. and her children, Brandon William, Logan Marae and Ryan Edward; two brothers, Edward Goldsborough of Woodside, Del. and Norman Goldsborough of Dover, Del.; two sisters, Beverely Doescher of Champaign, Ill. and Linda Burchett of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were private and a memorial will be held at a later date.
