The Rev. Kenneth Hayward Greene Sr., 60
BALTIMORE - The Rev. Kenneth Hayward Greene Sr. of Baltimore, formerly of Dover, Del., died suddenly as the result of a heart attack Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, in Northwest Regional Hospital, Randallstown. He was 60.
The Rev. Greene was born April 10, 1940, in Greenville, N.C., the son of Allie Greene of Greenville and Rev. W. Hayward Greene of Dover.
He attended local schools in Greenville and graduated from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (Princess Anne) in 1962. He received a bachelor of divinity degree from Crozer Seminary in Chester, Pa., in 1967 and a master of divinity degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School in Rochester, N.Y., in 1968. New York Theological Seminary awarded him an earned doctorate of divinity degree in 1987.
The Rev. Greene was the pastor of A.P. Shaw United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. His wife, the Rev. Sandra Greene, is pastor of Congress Heights United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C.
His appointments included: Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Philadelphia, 1964-68; Chestertown United Methodist Church, Chestertown, 1968-70; John Wesley United Methodist Church, Glen Burnie, 1970-75; Christ United Methodist Church, Baltimore, 1975-85; Asbury United Methodist Church, Annapolis, 1985-89; Lincoln Park United Methodist Church (Capitol Hill), Washington, D.C., 1989-98; A.P. Shaw United Methodist Church (Anacostia) Washington, D.C., 1998-present.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kenneth H. Greene Jr. of Baltimore; a daughter, Kia Marie Greene of Baltimore; two brothers, Charles Greene, of Dover and James Greene of Fort Washington; five nieces; and three nephews.
Friends may call 2-8 p.m. today at the Joseph H. Brown Funeral Home, 2140 N. Fulton Ave., Baltimore. A wake will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday at. A.P. Shaw UMC, 2525 12th Place, S.E., Washington.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Epworth Chapel UMC, 3317 St. Luke's Lane, Baltimore.
Cmdr. Perry Hall, USN retired, 81
MONROVIA, Md. - Cmdr. Perry Hall, USN retired of Monrovia, and formerly of Milford, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in Frederick Health Care Center, Frederick. He was 81.
Cmdr. Hall was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Morrisville, Pa., the son of the late Alvah and Lillie Perry Hall.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1937 and served on the USS Henderson, Pennsylvania and Norfolk before entering the U.S. Naval Academy in 1939. Upon graduation from the USNA in 1942, he joined the crew of the USS Sterett and participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal, earning a Presidential Unit Citation with a Bronze Star. He entered Sub School in 1943 and served on the following submarines: USS 0-6, Chopper, Sea Devil, Caiman and Spikefish.
In 1952, Lt. Cmdr. Hall became captain of the USS Bang, and in 1960 he graduated from George Washington University with an MBA in the Navy Controllership program. Upon his retirement in 1962, he was serving in the Office of Navy Comptroller. He entered the private sector in suburban Washington, D.C., and retired to Milford in 1986.
Cmdr. Hall served in a number of lay roles in the Catholic Church, in addition to coaching numerous youth sport teams. He was also a son of the American Revolution and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Daniel Hall and Eileen Hall; and a grandson, John Hall.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Florence Patricia Donovan Hall; five sons, John Hall, and his wife, Sophie, Bob Hall, and his wife, Barbara, Mike Hall, and his wife, Laurie, Chris Hall and Jim Hall, and his wife, Barbara; three daughters and their husbands, Pat and Bob Billimac, Anne and Mark Gallagher and Kathy and Aldo Calvi; a daughter-in-law, Julie Hall; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, near the U.S. Naval Academy. Father Patrick Flynn will officiate.
Burial will be in the U.S. Naval Academy Columbarium.

Judith T. Hamilton, 79
POT NETS - Judith T. Hamilton of Pot Nets died of heart failure Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 79.
Mrs. Hamilton was born Sept. 25, 1921, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Stanley and Lena Thomas.
She was a retired cafeteria worker for the Claymont School District.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Malcolm C. Hamilton; a daughter and husband, Patricia and George Davies of West Grove, Pa.; a brother, Gordon Thomas of Claymont; and a sister, Frances Walz of Long Neck.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, near Summit.

Sarah 'Cathy' Jefferson, 76
DOVER - Sarah "Cathy" Jefferson of Dover died of natural causes Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 76.
Mrs. Jefferson was born May 6, 1924, in Whiteville, Va., the daughter of the late Frank White and Sarah Mitchell.
She worked for General Foods for 18 years.
Mrs. Jefferson was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, Dover.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jefferson.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte A. Waters of Dover; two sons, Bruce A. Waters, and his wife, Norma, of Melbourne, Fla., and Cornell Waters Sr., and his companion, Betty King, of Dover; a sister, Caroline Stanley, and her husband, Wilbert Stanley, of Dover; eight grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Service will be noon Thursday at Mount Zion AME Church, Queen and Fulton streets, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to service. The Rev. Coleman will officiate.
Burial will be in Whatcoat Cemetery, Dover.

John Wesley Lawson, 85
DOVER - John Wesley Lawson of Dover died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in his home. He was 85.
Mr. Lawson was born April 3, 1915 in Sparta, Tenn., the son of Arthur and Katherine Lawson. He was a World War II veteran.
Mr. Lawson was retired from the USAF with 20 years of service. He also retired from civil service after 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marcianna F. (Leszyk) Lawson of Dover; a daughter, Carol A. Kranick of West Seneca, N.Y.; two sons, John W. Lawson Jr. of Bradenton, Fla., and Joseph M. Lawson of Wilmington; two sisters, Mae Greene of LaFallette, Tenn., and Ruth Paquette of Norris, Tenn.; three brothers, Carl Lawson of Sudlersville, Md., Roy Lawson of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and James Lawson of West Allis, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Trader Funeral Services, 12 Lotus St., Dover.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover.

Robert J. Ridgeway Sr., 64
GEORGETOWN - Robert J. Ridgeway, Sr. of Georgetown died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in his home. He was 64.
Mr. Ridgeway retired in 1975 at the rank of master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years service as a flight engineer. He was a veteran of Vietnam, where he was the recipient of three Distinguished Flying Crosses.
He was a member of the American Legion, Walter L. Fox, Post 2, Dover, and the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Ridgeway of Georgetown; two sons, Robert J. Ridgeway Jr. of Magnolia and Ronald E. Ridgeway of Portsmouth, Va.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dadd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. The Rev Richard Blades will officiate.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

Dorothy M. Sanders, 80
MILLVILLE - Dorothy M. Sanders of Millville died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. She was 80.
She is survived by her son, Gary Wayne Sanders of Frederica.

Angus B. Hutchings, 74
DOVER - Angus B. Hutchings of Dover died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in the hospital of University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He was 74.
Mr. Hutchings was born Oct. 2, 1928 in St. Johns, Newfoundland.
He graduated from Columbia University where he majored in chemistry.
Mr. Hutchings retired in 1997 after 30 years as a packaging engineer for American Packaging Company in Philadelphia. He worked out of his office and traveled quite extensively. He moved to Dover in 1990 from Southampton, Pa. He worked the bingo at Elks Post 1903 in Dover and also was a member of Walter L. Fox Post 2 and the American Legion.
He enjoyed golf and was a member of Jonathans Landing Golf Club and a past member of Maple Dale Country Club. He was a PIAA swimming official.
Mr. Hutchings loved jokes and music as well as computers and the Internet.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jackie Smith Hutchings; two sons, Robert Angus Hutchings of Jacksonville, Fla. and Steven D. and Sandra Hutchings of Newtown, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen Elaine and Andrew Sissons of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and a grandson, James Steven Hutchings.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Cemetery, Dover.

Harriet A. Kline, 84
EARLEVILLE, Md. - Harriet A. Kline of Earleville died Friday, April 11, 2003, in Laurelwood Nursing Home, Elkton. She was 84.
Mrs. Kline was born June 6, 1918, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Harold and Anna Johnson Erikson.
She was a homemaker.
Since a young girl her family had owned a summer home in Cecil County, and in 1981, she and her husband moved from Springfield, Pa., to Bay View Estates.
Mrs. Kline was a member of the Greenfingers Garden Club, the Bridge Club and the Lower Cecil County Senior Citizens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Erikson.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, George R. Kline; two sons, Wayne R. Kline of West Chester, Pa. and George L. Kline of Minneapolis, Minn., and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call after 12:30 p.m.
Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery.

E.O. 'Ernie' Pennington, 60
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. - E.O. 'Ernie' Pennington of Midwest City, formerly of West Jefferson, N.C., died Wednesday, April 9, 2003. He was 60.
Mr. Pennington was born Oct. 10, 1942, in Apple Grove, N.C., son of the late Woodrow and Ruby (Smiley) Pennington.
He moved to Delaware in 1961, where he worked for General Motors as an electrician for 27 years before retiring to Ashe County, N.C.
Mr. Pennington enjoyed his dog, Cody, hunting, fishing and playing cards with his kids.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon, and a brother, Bartie.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, at home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Dewayne Hightower, and Renee and Wayne Wallace; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ricky Pennington, Billy and Debby Pennington; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Stephanie, Christie, Josh, Heather and Colton; a great-grandson, Damien; a sister, Bonnie Apgar of Dover, Del.; a brother, Dallas Pennington of Oxford, Pa., and many family and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel.
Burial will follow in Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City.
Raymond W. Riniker, 83
LEWES - Raymond W. Riniker of Lewes died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 83.
Mr. Riniker was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Lewes, son of the late Minnie Rickards Riniker and Frank P. Riniker.
He was a 1938 Lewes High School graduate and later worked for the DuPont Co. in Seaford and then in the family business known as Riniker's Tavern, a local restaurant, bar and liquor store where he handled all phases of the operation. He then went on to work as a field auditor for Selected Risk Insurance before joining the former Farmers Bank of the State of Delaware in 1959. Over the years, he worked his way through various positions within the bank until his retirement in 1976 from the loans division.
Mr. Riniker for many years was a professional freelance photographer and cinematographer, handling several events for the WDEL-TV, Channel 12, and forwarding several news films to WBOC-TV and photos to the Associated Press. In his lifetime, he produced over 4,000 feet of motion picture film for the former Smith Products Company of Lewes and for other local events. Mr. Riniker obtained a pilot's license in 1945 and an amateur radio license with the call letters W3SWC in 1952. He also owned and operated his own boats. He was a musician and could sing and play the saxophone and clarinet. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine Lodge Riniker of Lewes; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay Riniker and Joshua Peirce of Sellersville, Pa.; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas R. and Cindy Riniker of Millsboro; granddaughters, Donna Wilkins, Lisa Peirce, Kimberly Keller and Melissa Baitinger; grandsons Steven Riniker and Scott Riniker; a step-grandson, Thomas W. Lynch III; and five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Eva, Eliza and Isaac Wilkins, and Chad Keller.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes. The Rev. David Palmer will officiate.
Burial will be in Bethel Methodist Cemetery, in Lewes.

J. Ross Roberts, 77
OCEAN VIEW - J. Ross Roberts of Ocean View, formerly of Arnold and Millersville, Md., died after a brief illness Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 77.
Mr. Roberts was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a POW who was shot down in Germany and a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was a retired engineer for the Westinghouse Corporation of Linthicum, Md.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the Dagsboro Church of Christ, a member of Elks Lodge 2266 of Glen Burnie, Md. a lifetime member and past chaplain of the VFW Mason Dixon Post 7234 at Quillen's Point in Ocean View.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Eva Roberts in 1995, a brother and a sister.
He is survived by two sons, Charles D. Woods Jr. of Crofton, Md., and J. Ross Roberts Jr. of Millersville; two daughters, Patricia A. Sandusky of Finksburg, Md. and Michelle L. Hettenhouser of Mayo, Md.; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a good friend and companion, Veronica Banks.
Memorial services will be with military honors 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South, Millsboro.

Wanda Sue Stuart, 50
OAK ORCHARD - Wanda Sue Stuart of Oak Orchard, near Millsboro, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 50.
Mrs. Stuart was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of Charles and Marie Carter Elder of Belfonte, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Bodley; a daughter, Amy Martin; a son-in-law and a grandson.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Richard B. Stuart Jr.; two sons, Gary and Tony Smith of Manchester, Ky.; two daughters, Angela Smith Thomas of Versilles, Ind., and Jhana Stuart at home; three brothers, Ray Carter of Ohio, Lee Leggett of Cincinnati, Ohio and Clayton Legget of Ross, Ohio; three sisters, Betty Gross of Indiana, Margaret "Jane" Moody of Cincinnati, Ohio and Nora Rook of Ohio; seven grandchildren, her mother and father-in-law, Richard B. and Marian Stuart of Georgetown and very close friends Bob and Betty O'Day and Allyson Smargisso.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
Milton B. West, 82
MILLSBORO - Milton B. West of Millsboro died Wednesday, April 10, 2003, in his home. He was 82.
Mr. West was born in Whaleyville, Md., son of the late Walter and Annie Carey West.
He was a beautification crew foreman for the Delaware Department of Transportation, retiring in 1983 after 16 years. He also operated Little Benny's Barbershop in Millsboro for several years.
Mr. West was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Millsboro.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maridell White West; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda West, Linda and Toby Cullen and Kathy and Sprig Hudson, all of Millsboro; a brother, Oliver West of Bishopville, Md.; a sister, Helena Clark of Gumboro; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Dr. James C. Van der Wall will officiate.
Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro.

Elfreda L. Worley, 90
MILLSBORO - Elfreda L. Worley of Millsboro died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 90.
Mrs. Worley was born in Williamson, W.Va., daughter of the late Floyd and Lulu Gayhart Kirk.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell B. Worley.
She is survived by a son, Albert B. Worley of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Nancy S. Heath of Millsboro; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Robert A. Hudson will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, US 113, Millsboro.
David Hopkins Alexander Sr., 76
LEWES - David Hopkins Alexander Sr. of Lewes died Friday, March 30, 2001, in Harbor Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was 76.
Mr. Alexander was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late William F. and Mabel A. Alexander.
He attended Philadelphia schools.
Mr. Alexander was employed at Cramps Ship Building Co., Philadelphia, during World War II. He also was in the retail shoe business for 50 years before retiring from his own business in Stroudsburg, Pa.
In 1993, he and his wife relocated to Lewes.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, music and his family.
Mr. Alexander was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Rehoboth Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Natalie J. Hoppe Alexander of Lewes; seven children and their families, David H. Alexander Jr. of Rydal, Pa., Michael E. Alexander of Westport, Mass., Faith E. Smith of Davidsonville, Md., Lizbeth M. MacLean of Centennial, Colo., Timothy A. Alexander of Port Deposit, Md., Susan L. Zebrosky of Ledyard, Conn., and Heather Alexander-McMahon of Stroudsburg; two sisters, Ruth Crowley of Largo, Fla., and Mabel Waldron of Birmingham, Ala.; 14 grandchildren, a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 5 at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Rehoboth Beach.
