Janice Louise Scott, 46
DOVER - Janice Louise Scott of Dover died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 46.
Mrs. Scott was born Aug. 4, 1954, in New Brunswick, N.J., the daughter of Johnnie and Elizabeth Drew.
She attended and graduated from Dover High School in 1973. She then attended Delaware State College.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Johnnie Drew III, in 1993.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 26 years, Clifford Larry Scott; a daughter, Crystal Nicole Scott; and a host of family and friends in Virginia, Delaware, Florida and New Jersey.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Delaware Veteran's Cemetery, Bear.
Ray Charles Zook, 83
MILFORD - Ray Charles Zook of Milford died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in his home. He was 83.
Mr. Zook was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a short order cook in Ocean City, Md., until his retirement in 1981.
He is survived by a sister, Louella T. Smith of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Millsboro.
Burial will follow in the cemetery.

Carolyn Mae Carney, 57
DOVER - Carolyn Mae Carney of Dover died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 57.
Carolyn was born Feb. 20, 1943 in Dover, the daughter of Sarah E. Sammons and the late Perry W. Sammons Sr.
Mrs. Carney worked for Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna for 30 years, and also part-time for State Cleaning and Maintenance for eight years. She retired due to illness in 1997.
She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and family. She also enjoyed crafting plastic canvas. After her retirement, she loved spending time with her mother.
Mrs. Carney was a lifetime member of Immanuel Union United Methodist Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Carney, Jr., who died in January 1974; and her brother, Perry W. Sammons Jr.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her two daughters, Melissa "Missy" C. Carney, Crystal "Sissy" A. Carlisle, and her husband, Bill; and a son, James "Bucky" H. Carney III; two granddaughters, Kristina Nicole and Brittney Mae Carlisle; a special godson, "Jo Jo" Joseph M. Seeney, and his wife, Kathi; a brother, Glendon M. Sammons; two sisters and their husbands, Betty M. and Joseph "Joey" Seeney and Carmella and Wayne Stanton; 10 special nieces and nephews; four great nieces and nephews; and two very special lifetime fiends, Ricky May and Arlena "Pinky" Coker.
Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Union United Methodist Church, Bishops Corner, where friends may call two hours prior to the services.
Burial will be private.

Edgar G. Cole, 93
WOODLAWN Md.- Edgar G. Cole of Old Landing Road, Midway, formerly of Woodlawn, died of natural causes Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, in Lewes Convalescent Center.
The Coles moved in May 1981 to Rehoboth Beach on Old Landing Road, having summered in Rehoboth Beach since 1932.
Mr. Cole worked 32 years for the Western Electric, Point Breeze Works in Baltimore, retiring Dec. 1, 1972, on Old Landing Road.
When transferring from Woodlawn Lions Club, he became a member of Rehoboth Beach Lions Club. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow award for outstanding community service, plus a special award for 50 years of service to the Lions Club in 1998. He was an elder in the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Neva Hyatt of Glen Burnie, who died Dec. 19, 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary; two sons and their wives, Charles W. and Joan Cole of Jarrettsville and Edgar G. Jr. and Joyce Cole of Randallstown; a daughter and her husband, Lynn and Jake Warrington of Rehoboth Beach; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Service will be noon Tuesday at Parsell Funeral Home and Crematorium, Atkins Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be private.

George H. Connard
MILTON - George H. Connard of Milton died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in his son's home. He was 68.
Mr. Connard worked for General Foods in Dover for 36 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Milton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Hockenbury Connard, in 1992.
He is survived by two sons, Daivd A. Van Pelt of Milton and Harry J. Van Pelt of Reisterstown, Md.; two daughters, Karen Lindley of Ellenwood, Ga., and Roseann Caraway of Georgetown; and five grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

Margaret M. Draper, 85
DENTON, Md. - Margaret M. Draper of Denton died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 85.
Mrs. Draper was born in Dorchester County, the daughter of the late George W. Thomas and Bertie Elizabeth Thomas.
Mrs. Draper worked as a seamstress at the Rob Roy Sewing Factory in Ridgely and at the Denton shirt factory.
In recent years, she was a volunteer at the Samaritan House in Denton.
Mrs. Draper was a member of the Denton Church of the Brethren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Draper, on Oct. 26, 1977; a son, Jackie T. Donovan; five sisters, Elizabeth Cannon, Elsie Toomie, Edith McWilliams, Mabel Garvey and Melva Thomas; and four brothers, Jerome Thomas, Carlton Thomas, Hampton Thomas and Rex Thomas.
She is survived by a son, John R. Draper of Denton; four daughters, Delores Cahall of Greenwood, Marie Payne of Federalsburg, Joan VanHorn of Tucson, Ark., and Carolyn Brown of Denton; a sister, Priscilla Hoffman of Hurlock; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Denton Church of the Brethren on Seventh Street.
Burial will be private.

Virginia Lee Engerman, 90
DENTON, Md. - Virginia Lee Engerman of Denton died of heart failure Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 90.
Mrs. Engerman was born at Waterloo Farm in Talbot County, the daughter of the late John Baynard Schuyler and Mary Jane Price Schuyler.
She was educated in the Talbot County public schools, and graduated in 1936 from the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore.
She owned and operated the Traveler's Rest Motor Lodge in Denton for 15 years.
Mrs. Engerman was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Denton, where she had been a member of the altar guild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Engerman, on Jan. 6, 2000; four brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Merry Lee Beaven of Easton; two grandsons, Andrew H. Beaven of Preston and Mark N. Beaven of Easton; one granddaughter, Emma Marie Beaven of Easton; and a great-grandson, Benjamin Oven Heaven of Easton.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Christ Episcopal Church on Gay Street in Denton.

Bob Canning, 76
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - Bob Canning of Oak Ridge died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Memorial Health University Medical Center, Savannah, Ga. He was 76.
Mr. Canning was a native of Palmer, Mass.
He was a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Massachusetts and began working for the Plymouth Cordage Co. He attended Duke University for doctoral studies and retired from the Oak Ridge National Lab.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a pharmacist's mate.
Mr. Canning was a member of the Church of the Pilgrimage, Plymouth, Mass., and attended the United Church-Chapel on the Hill, Oak Ridge. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Chapter, Palmer.
He is survived by his wife, Mary C. Murray Canning of Oak Ridge; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Diane and Thomas Robert Messere of Lake Charles, La., and Susan Elizabeth Fiacco of Savannah; two sisters, Margaret Erwin Amos of Dover, Del., and Priscilla Mae Canning of Lansing, Mich.; a grandson, Dominic Joseph Fiacco of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. April 20 at United Church Chapel on the Hill, Oak Ridge.
Burial will be in the church's memorial garden.

Francis 'Wickie' Collins, 82
GALENA, Md. - Francis "Wickie" Collins of Galena died of heart failure Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Union Hospital, Elkton. He was 82.
Mr. Collins was retired from the Sinclair/B.P. Petroleum refinery, Marcus Hook, Pa., after 42 years of service. He was a mechanist.
Mr. Collins was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 652, Millington, and was involved in several senior citizens organizations, especially the Modern Maturity Center, Dover, Del.
He loved to garden, as well as dance, and he enjoyed playing an occasional round of golf. He was quite handy and enjoyed fixing and tinkering with anything broken around the house.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen S. Collins, in 1988.
He is survived by a son, Gregory F., and his wife, Kathleen Collins, of Pottstown, Pa.; a daughter, Valerie O., and her husband, Everrett Aurbeck, of Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Rob Boyd and Ariel Aurbeck, both of Littleton, and Christine and Michael Collins of Pottstown, and a special friend, Kathryn Argo of Middletown, Del.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be in the Galena Cemetery.

Dorothy T. Coulby, 85
GREENSBORO, Md. - Dorothy T. Coulby of Greensboro died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at The Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 85.
Mrs. Coulby was born Nov. 3, 1915, near Greensboro, the daughter of the late George Noah Wrightson Turner and Edna Jane Moore Turner.
She was a homemaker.
She had taken in and cared for many children in her home over the years.
Mrs. Coulby was a member of the Denton Wesleyan Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Missionary Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Coulby, Feb. 25, 1986; and two brothers, Alfred "Fred" Turner and Howard Turner.
She is survived by two sons, James A. Coulby of Greensboro and Paul H. Coulby of New Castle, Del.; a daughter, Esther Lednum of Easton; two sisters, Martha Phillips of Greensboro and Jane Tull of Federalsburg; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Cathryn C. 'Kitty' Dill, 87
HARRINGTON - Cathryn C. "Kitty" Dill of Harrington died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at The Memorial Hospital at Easton (Md.). She was 87.
Mrs. Dill was born Aug. 15, 1913, in Bridgetown, Md., the daughter of the late Clayton and Sallie Quillen Cole.
She was a lifetime resident of this area.
Mrs. Dill was a first-grade teacher with the Felton School District for 23 years.
She and her husband owned two farms that have been in the family more than a century.
Mrs. Dill was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Goldsboro, Md.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death March 24, 1996, by her husband of 57 years, Courtland Dill, who she married Dec. 31, 1938.
She is survived by a son and his wife, D. Wayne and Michele Dill of Harrington; a daughter and her husband, Lois D. and James Dunn of Harrington; a brother, H. Gene Cole of Harrington; a sister, Eileen Medford of Millsboro; and five grandchildren, Russell Dunn and his wife, Marlene, of Harrington, Michael Dill and his wife, Renee, of Dover, Lori Carpenter and her husband, Jerry, of Florida, Kevin Dill and his wife, Kathleen, of Newark, and Melissa Dill of Harrington.

J. Bryan Emory, 69
GEORGETOWN - J. Bryan Emory of Georgetown died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 69.
Mr. Emory was an electrical contractor for Emory's Line Construction Co., retiring in 1999.
He was a former member of Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Emory, in 1980.
He is survived by his fiancee, Glenda J. Williams of Georgetown; two sons, David Emory of Cape Coral, Fla., and Robert Emory of Lewes; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

Donald J. Gale, 66
PHILADELPHIA - Donald J. Gale of Philadelphia died of heart failure Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. He was 68.
Mr. Gale was born Oct. 3, 1932, in Laurel, Del.
He was a custodian.
He is survived by two sons, Christopher J. Gale and Michael Cole; five aunts; two uncles; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Betty Dorothy Hibbs, 79
MILLINGTON, Md. - Betty Dorothy Hibbs of Millington died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 79.
Mrs. Hibbs was born Feb. 27, 1922, in Yardley, Pa., the daughter of the late Johnson H. and Alberta Worthington Miller.
She graduated from high school in 1940 and eight years later, was married to her late husband, Wilson M. Hibbs. Together, they farmed in Pennsylvania and New Jersey before moving to Maryland in the 1950s.
Mrs. Hibbs was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Millington. She enjoyed playing the piano, especially the old hymns, which she continued to do at Magnolia Hall after playing for many years at the Asbury United Methodist.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, G. Raymond of Millington; a sister-in-law, Amy Hibbs of Millington; a nephew and his wife, Kenneth and Janet Hibbs of Peru; a niece and her husband, Kathleen and Carroll Wagner of Galena; a special friend, Alice Stewart, who she loved as family; and many great-nieces and -nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Asbury Cemetery, Millington.
