Anna Mae Calvert, 75
HARRINGTON - Anna Mae Calvert of Harrington died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in her home. She was 75.
Mrs. Calvert was born in Harrington, daughter of the late John and Grace Hendricks.
She was a homemaker who was a hard-working mother and wife who took care of her husband and raised their five children. She also helped out on the family farm and worked for a short while making dresses at the Harrington Dress Factory.
She enjoyed sewing very much, gardening and tending to her flowers. She was a great cook and loved to make family meals, bake, can and freeze. She will be remembered as a patient, loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a friend to all that knew her. Her patience was admired by all, both young and old.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Joseph M. Calvert, on Jan. 20, 2003.
She is survived by a son, John Marley Calvert of Harrington; four daughters, Barbara Clendaniel, Linda Calvert, Joann Baker and Amy Welsh, all of Harrington; three sisters, Dolly Hendricks of Seaford, Pauline Daniels of Lincoln and Gladys Case of Milford; six grandchildren, David M. Calvert, Aaron C. Clendaniel, Lisa A. Clendaniel, Christina M. Welsh, Tameron J. Calvert and Renee L. Baker; and two great-grandchildren, Victoria A. Clendaniel and Sydney R. Clendaniel.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas Protack of St. Bernadette Catholic Church will officiate.
Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Hollywood Cemetery.

Bradford Burdette Hitchens, 77
MILFORD - Bradford Burdette Hitchens of Milford died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in his brother's home in Elkton, Md. He was 77.
Mr. Hitchens was born in Wilmington, son of the late Bradford and Pearl (Scott) Hitchens.
He was a 1944 graduate of Milford High School.
Mr. Hitchens was a florist, greenhouse operator and driver for Scott Nurseries and Blue Hen Florists for 45 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.
Mr. Hitchens was a member of the Milford Senior Center and was a student of the American Civil War and Scottish history.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean H. Blessing, in 1982.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Robert J. and Charlotte Hitchens of Elkton; two nephews, Steven Blessing of Rehoboth Beach and Ronald Blessing of Felton; and a niece, Donna Lee Hilbert of Eldersburg, Md.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Tommy R. Huss Jr., 48
LONG NECK - Tommy R. Huss Jr. of Long Neck and formerly of Lincolnton, N.C., died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in Smyrna from injuries sustained in a traffic accident. He was 48.
Mr. Huss was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was employed as a truck driver for Thoro-Good Concrete Co., Millsboro.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda B. Huss; a son, Joshua Brandon Huss of Millsboro; a daughter, Ashley Rae Huss of the family home; his parents, Tommy R. and Beverly Huss of North Carolina; a brother, Frank Huss of North Carolina; two sisters, Lynn Milton and Melissa Humphries, both of North Carolina; and two granddaughters, Kayla Maree and Emma Belle.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Long Neck chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be private in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South, near Millsboro.

Wayne Everett Jackl, 57
MILLINGTON, Md. - Wayne Everett Jackl of Millington died of cancer Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 57.
Mr. Jackl was born Sept. 3, 1945, in Menominee, Mich., son of Mary S. Jackl Roberts of Menominee and the late Andrew M. Jackl.
He received his education in the Catholic and public schools of Menominee and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1967 and a master's degree in library science from the University of Maryland in 1971.
After pursuing a career in teaching, librarianship, counseling and business, he and his wife established Head of Chester Antiques, Millington. He enjoyed that business until his death.
Mr. Jackl served his community through membership on several boards of directors, including Infinity Recycling Inc. He served the town of Millington on the Environmental Committee of the Comprehensive Planning Commission and on the Planning and Zoning Commission.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Ruth; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew W. and Kathy Jackl of Clayton, N.C.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sylvia H. and Henry Bare of Apex, N.C., and Evelyn, a college student, of the family home; his stepfather, Wesley Roberts of Menominee; a brother, Jeffrey K. Jackl of Oakland, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Drew and Sarah Jackl and Deanna and Wyatt Bare, all of North Carolina.
Friends may call 1 p.m. Sunday in the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home PA, Millington. It will be followed immediately by a time of remembering and a shared covered-dish meal at the Millington Firehouse.

Jih'nae Lamiya Inez (Angel) Jenkins, 4
SALISBURY, Md. - Jih'nae Lamiya Inez (Angel) Jenkins of Salisbury died suddenly Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003. She was 4.
Jih'nae was the daughter of Tawanda and Kunta Stanley.
She attended West Salisbury Elementary School and the Eden Head Start program. She was a little ballerina. She attended Dance Unlimited and was a ballet student at D'ann Dance Studios. She had many friends and was extremely outgoing, and a very intelligent and bright little girl. She received nothing but good comments and grades from both schools. She was a leader and a helper and had a hunger for knowledge. She wanted to know everything. She was one of the top students at both of her schools.
Jih'nae loved everything Barbie. She also loved clothes and had to have shoes to match her outfits. She was sometimes referred to as a "little diva". She was very loving and always wanted to give everyone hugs. She loved to color, write, pick on her brother and play with her baby sister. Jih'nae was a very spoiled little girl who got everything she wanted. Her favorite color was purple. She was a happy and loving little girl. She couldn't wait to be a teenager so that she could be a cheerleader. She was truly loved and adored by everyone with whom she came in contact.
She was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Inez Jones and Almira Bolden; a great-great-grandmother, Flossie Roberts Davis; and an uncle, Dondre Jones.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Johnny Kane; a sister, A'myri Stanley; her grandparents, Sandra Jolley, Ernest Pinkey, Gary Butler, Genevera Demby, Carroll and Judith Jolley, Emerson and Sidney Payton, Carlton Stanley and Connie Thomas; her great-grandparents, Fredrick Jones Sr., Mable Butler, Helen B. Stanley and Mary Pinder; two uncles, Carroll Jolley Jr. and Chandler Rigby; an aunt, Lisa Rigby; two godmothers, Shemeka Sampson and Regina Hawkins; a godfather, Chauncy Johns; a godsister, Deja Smith; a godbrother, Brannon Hawkins; her birth father, Cedric Bolden; two half-sisters, Sade Blake and Quinisha Bolden; an aunt, Tanya Bolden; an uncle, Carlton Bolden; her grandfather, Carlton Megee; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
The family requests that friends and family wear Jih'nae's favorite color, purple, at the services.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at United Deliverance Bible Center, Laurel.

Sheronda Lynnae Purnell Manlove, 31
DOVER - Sheronda Lynnae Purnell Manlove of Dover died of cancer Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 31.
Mrs. Manlove was born Nov. 2, 1971, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, daughter of Tom and Ethel Purnell of Bridgeville.
She worked for the Dover Post newspaper.
Mrs. Manlove was a member of Home of Mission Bible Church, Harrington.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Orlando Pettyjohn.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Chris Manlove of Dover; a son, Kevonte Purnell of Seaford; a brother, William Purnell of Felton; two sisters, Valencia Purnell of Greenwood and Vonsheila Purnell of Woodside; her grandmother, Annie Pettyjohn of Seaford; a special uncle, Harry Pettyjohn of Seaford; a special grandmother, Carolyn Manlove of Dover; a brother-in-law, Jose Torres of Dover; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Harris of Felton and Cleo Lowe of Dover; three additional uncles; six aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be noon Saturday at Church of God, Clarence Street, Seaford, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Macedonia African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery.
Norma Lee McConnell, 73
HURLOCK, Md. - Norma Lee McConnell of Hurlock died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Ruxton Health Center, Denton. She was 73.
Mrs. McConnell was born Sept. 19, 1929, in Dorchester County, daughter of the late Hattie E. Shufelt Woodward and Mayo Stewart Woodward.
She was a 1946 Federalsburg High School graduate.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse at the former Eastern Shore Hospital Center, Cambridge, and at The Memorial Hospital at Easton, and had owned and operated the floral shop known as Ye Old Post Shop, Preston.
Mrs. McConnell was a member of the Preston Community Club and of Bethesda United Methodist Church, Preston.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. McConnell; four children and their spouses, Connie Lyden Sites and Douglas Sites of Seaford, Del., William E. Lyden Jr. and Bonnie Lyden and Suzanne Lyden Fluharty and Mickey Fluharty, all of Federalsburg, and Jill Lyden Phelps and Jim Phelps of Preston; seven grandchildren, Lori L. Colby of Hollywood, Christopher Robertson of Cambridge, Wendi R. Tull, Matthew E. Guesfeird and William Noah Lyden, all of Federalsburg, and Julie L. Phelps and Justin L. Phelps, both of Preston; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Crippen of Titusville, Fla., and Leona Henry of Seaford; a brother, Elmer Woodward of Federalsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home PA, Federalsburg, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Mark Farnell will officiate.
Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, near Hurlock.
Helen Baker Joseph West, 93
CONCORD - Helen Baker Joseph West of Concord died of heart failure Sunday, April 13, 2003, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Huey West Jr., Bridgeville. She was 93.
Mrs. West was born on a farm near Greenwood, daughter of the late Ora Francis and Rosa Catherine Whitby Baker. She was raised with strong Christian values.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family.
Mrs. West liked to travel, do crossword puzzles and have her family come home to visit. She also loved flowers, especially red roses, and animals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence E. Joseph Sr.; her son, Lawrence E. Joseph Jr.; a brother, Dawson Baker; a sister, Ethel Deremer; and a granddaughter, Jill Joseph.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joseph E. West; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Clifford West of Millsboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Huey West Jr. or Bridgeville; seven grandchildren, Sandra Beatty of Laurel, Tish West of Millsboro, Huey West III of Bridgeville, Steve West of Georgetown and Jeff Joseph, Jennifer Hochrein and Jason Joseph of Lewes; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King Streets in Seaford. The Rev. Paul Miller will officiate.

Cora Bordley, 93
CAMDEN - Cora Bordley of Camden died Friday, April 13, 2001, in her home. She was 93.
Mrs. Bordley was born April 5, 1908, in Greensboro, Md., daughter of the late Guy and Leona Patterson.
She received her early education in the public schools of Greensboro.
Later, Mrs. Bordley was joined in holy matrimony with James C. Bordley Sr. To this union were born nine children.
She was dedicated to her church and a great believer in prayer and having faith to trust in God.
Mrs. Bordley was president of the choir and belonged to the missionary and steward board.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; and two sons, Dennis Bordley Sr. and Harvey Bordley.
She is survived by two sons, James C. Bordley Jr. and George Bordley of Dover; five daughters, Barbara Bordley and Ernestine Collins, both of Camden, and Carolyn Pleasanton, Christine Meade and Sarah Bordley, all of Dover; a brother, Ellis Patterson of Chester, Pa.; a sister, Goldie Johnson of Preston, Md.; four sisters-in-law, Gertrude Bordley, Reba Black, Patsey Boardley and Mildred Staton; a brother-in-law, Percell Black; three sons-in-law, James J. Collins, Russell Pleasanton and James Meade; four daughters-in-law, Shirley Bordley, Ella Bordley, Janice Bordley and Phyllis Bordley; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Service will be noon Wednesday at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church at Queen and Fulton streets in Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Helen Louise Jester, 72
SEAFORD - Helen Louise Jester of Seaford died, after a long illness, Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 72.
Ms. Jester was born March 14, 1929, in Portsmouth, Va., daughter of the late Thomas Gertie Jester and Ruth O. Carr Jester.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Jester; and a sister, Mildred Bell.
She is survived by two brothers, James M. Jester of Mesa, Ariz., and Robert E. Jester of Homosassa, Fla.; three sisters, Geneva F. Bowden of Seaford, Mary Elizabeth Benton of Norfolk, Va., and Evelyn M. Dix of Salisbury, Md.; a special friend, Mike Partizzi of Seaford; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who loved her.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville.
Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Downing Cemetery, Oak Hall, Va., leaving Hardesty Funeral Home at 10 a.m. The Rev. Andrew Kerr, associate pastor of Atlanta Road Alliance Church in Seaford, will officiate.
Kathleen Westwater Ray, 75
MILLSBORO - Kathleen Westwater Ray of Millsboro, and formerly of Short Hills, N.J., died, after a long illness, Saturday, April 14, 2001, in the home of her daughter in Millsboro. She was 75.
Mrs. Ray served with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.
She was a retired registered operating-room nurse.
Mrs. Ray was a member of Wyoming Presbyterian Church in Millburn, N.J.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cates Ray, in 1994.
She is survived by a son, Robert Cates Ray II of Seattle; a daughter, Cathie R. Sager of Millsboro; and four granddaughters, Heather S. Fedeli, Jennie Sager, Jenna Ray and Christina Ray.
Private graveside service will be held in Union, N.J.

Willard H. Savage, 80
MILLSBORO - Willard H. Savage of Millsboro died of natural causes Friday, April 13, 2001, in his home. He was 80.
Mr. Savage was born in Carney's Point, N.J., son of the late William H. Savage Sr. and Florence Shriver Savage.
He graduated from the Eddystone (Pa.) High School in 1939.
Mr. Savage served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked for the Sun Oil Co. in Marcus Hook, Pa., for 35 years, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Savage was a member of the Lucius Scott Masonic Lodge in Chester, Pa., for 52 years, and was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bessie W. Savage; a daughter, Susan L. Balback of Smyrna; and a granddaughter, Tracy Ramsay of Hawthorne, N.J.
Service will be noon Tuesday at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev, Joseph James will officiate.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
Carlton R. Bishop, 81
DOVER - Carlton R. Bishop of Dover died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in his home. He was 81.
Mr. Bishop was born April 14, 1920, in Dover, son of the late Harvey and Bessie Mason Bishop.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the Philippines.
Mr. Bishop was best known as a master salesman for Matthews Motors Inc., for 35 years.
He was a past president of Eastern Zone for Pontiac in 1974. He was a member of the Dover Modern Maturity Center and a member of Peoples Church of Dover.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret T. Bishop in 1977 and a brother, Layton Bishop.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Rose Bishop of Dover; a son, Robert W. and his wife, Lisa Bishop of Smyrna; two stepsons, Michael and his wife, Kathleen Moore of Little Creek, and William Moore of Marion, N.C.; a daughter, Sandra and her husband, Stephen Hollenbeck of Milford; two stepdaughters, Valarie and her husband, Dwayne Deen of Suffolk, Va., and Beverly Collins of Harrington; 12 grandchildren, Joshua Bishop, Nicholas Bishop and Emily Bishop, all of Smyrna, Jordan Hollenbeck of Milford, Michael Moore and Catherine Moore, both of Little Creek, Jill Hollenbeck, Melissa Stockman, Justin Stockman and Laura Stockman, all of Virginia, Jessica Collins of Harrington and Jason Collins of Hartly.
Remembrance service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
Rosemarie Jean Cain, 78
DOVER - Rosemarie Jean Cain of Dover died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Frank W. and Debbie Cain. She was 78.
Mrs. Cain was born in Bay Shore, Long Island, N.Y., the daughter of the late James and Bertha (Albanese) Azzara.
She owned and operated Cains Newsstand in Harrington for several years with her husband, before selling the business in 1967. She also worked as a payroll clerk for the State of Delaware's Treasurer's office in Dover for several years.
She enjoyed reading, playing solitaire and riding the roads with her family.
Mrs. Cain was a lifelong member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Harrington, where she was an eucharistic minister. She was also a member of CKRT Post 7, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Harrington, the 40 & 8 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Dover and the Harrington Moose Lodge 534.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Cain, in 1986.
In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, she is survived by a daughter, Judi M. Hynson, of Pasadena, Md.; a son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Cathy Cain of Harrington; six grandchildren, Patricia Cross, Michelle Jackson, Shawn Cain, Matthew Cain, Carrie Cain, and Jimmy Mehiel; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St. in Harrington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 109 Dixon St. in Harrington.

Brent D. May, 24
SMYRNA - Brent D. May of Smyrna died Monday, April 16, 2001, in Christiana Hospital. He was 24.
Mr. May was born Feb. 18, 1977, in Clearwater, Fla., the son of John and Donna May Rankin Jr. of Smyrna
He graduated from Dover High School in 1998.
He was employed at McDonald's in Dover for a short time
Mr. May enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Stephen Bridges of Smyrna; his maternal grandfather, Martin May of Hamilton, Ohio; and his paternal grandmother, Anna Marie Rankin of Frostburg, Md.
Service will be 7 tonight at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Father Hanley of Holy Cross Catholic Church will officiate. Following the service, there will be calling hours until 9 p.m.
Burial will be private.

Wallace Edward Moore Sr., 57
SEAFORD - Wallace Edward Moore Sr. of Seaford died Monday, April 16, 2001, in his home. He was 57.
Mr. Moore was born in Blades, son of the late Dallas Lee Moore Sr. and Emma Elizabeth Hastings Moore.
He had a associate's degree in computer science from Delaware Technical & Community College in Georgetown.
He was a computer specialist for the DuPont Company in Seaford, retiring in 1993 after 30 years of service.
Mr. Moore was a lifetime member and paid-up for life at the American Legion Post 19, Laurel, where he was post adjutant. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and a member of 40/8. He was an alternate National Executive Committeman for the Sons of American Legion. He was past state commander of the Sons of the American Legion and past commander of Nanticoke Post 6 American Legion for four years, Seaford He was also District 4 adjutant for the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step mother, Miriam Towers Moore.
He is survived by a son, Wallace E. Moore Jr. of Oconto, Wis.; two daughters, Laurie A. Trice and Elizabeth M. Moore, both of Seaford; four brothers, Charles S. Moore of Lewes, W. Larry Moore of Prattville, Ala., Dallas L. Moore Jr. of Seaford and Herbert L. Moore of Frankford; three sisters, Virginia E. Massey of Blades, Sharon Law of Savanah, Ill. and Deborah Hawrylyshyn of Seaford; and three grandchildren, Courtney Moore of Michigan and Kelli Anne Trice and Kyle Andrew Trice, both of Seaford.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday the Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King Streets, Seaford.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Carmean officiating.
