Fletcher, Shirley Jefferson 末 Laurel. Died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Seaford Center Genesis Eldercare, Seaford. She was a waitress for 45 years at various restaurants, retiring from Lorraine's Sub Shop in Laurel. Locally survived by a sister, Jennie Lee Maurer of Dover. Burial was private.
Gomeringer, Dorothy E. 末 Smyrna. Died of Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at age 83, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was a homemaker. Survived by her husband, LeRoy R. Gomeringer. Locally survived by two grandchildren, Timothy W. Gomeringer of Kenton and Donna J. Kelley of Camden-Wyoming. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
Guldin, Robert C. 末 Smyrna. Died Saturday, Dec. 7, at age 55, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1964 to 1968. He was awarded two Bronze Stars. Survived by his wife, Deborah A. Powers-Guldin. Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Harris, Estella V. Dickerson "Cutie" 末 Greenwood. Died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at age 76, in the home of her daughter. She was certified as a special education teacher, having taught at the Katie L. Handy School in Seaford and the Howard T. Ennis School of Georgetown, retiring in the late 1980s after 33 years of service. Locally survived by an adopted son, Dr. Tutse Tonwe of Dover. Burial was in Trinity Church Cemetery, Dublin Hill.
Henry, The Rev. Norman Lee 末 Goldsboro, Md. Died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at age 50, in the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore City. He was a member of New Beginnings Church of God in Marydel, where he served in the deacon's board for nine years. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, in New Union United Methodist Church, Goldsboro. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, in the church. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Goldsboro.
Hilyard, Cora Alfree 末 Smyrna. Died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at age 87, in the home of her daughter. She worked in occupational therapy and physical therapy at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. Survived by her husband of 50 years, Harold Hilyard. Burial was in St. Ann's Cemetery, Middletown.
Hinson, Barbara H. 末 Smyrna. Died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at age 75, in her home. She was a senior secretary for 42 years in Louis L. Redding High School and the Appoquinimink School District office until her retirement in 1989. Burial was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
Jester, Atkins Thomas 末 Greensboro, Md. Died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at age 104, in his home. He was employed by the former Reach glove factory. Locally survived by a daughter, Genevieve Knolls of Felton. Burial was in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.
Martin, Frederick D. 末 Harrington. Died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at age 88, in his home. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army and saw action in Europe. He was a farmer and raised broiler chickens and grew grain. Survived by his wife, Mary Martin. Locally survived by a granddaughter, Katherine Wright of Dover. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
McKay, Bertha Beth 末 Milford. Died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at age 91, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was a homemaker. She was involved in the manufacturing of the World War II B-29 Super Fortress aircraft. She worked for Boeing in Wichita, Kan.
McLaughlin, Penny A. 末 Wilmington. Died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at age 46, in St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington. Locally survived by a sister, Jane Burnley of Magnolia. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints, 143 Dickerson Lane, Wilmington.
Phillips, Norma Lee 末 Worton, Md. Died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at age 55, in Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was employed by Rock Hall sewing factory, in private duty nursing and Leeds Travelware in Clayton. Survived by her husband of 31 years, Sheldon S. Phillips. Locally survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rotina Phillips-Postley and Dwayne M. Postley of Dover; and two grandchildren, Amai N. Wilson and Jeleesa Turner, both of Dover. Burial was in Union Methodist Cemetery, Coleman's.
Pierce, Theola Vivian 末 Townsend. Died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at age 89, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was retired from domestic and factory work. She was a member of the First United Church of Gospel, Dover, for 17 years.
Pierson, Romaine M. 末 Clayton. Died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at age 73, in her home. She was a homemaker and a partner in the family dairy farm. Survived by her husband of 52 years, Philip W. Pierson. Burial was in Bryn Zion Cemetery, near Kenton.
Prus, Peter Jr. 末 Milford. Died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at age 80, in his home. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in a combat engineers company before his discharge in 1946. He was a truck driver for Teamsters Local 107 of Philadelphia for Funk Hauling for 17 years, retiring in 1977. Survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara A. Fulbrook. Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
Quinn, Audrey Elizabeth 末 Milford. Died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at age 67, in the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore. She worked at St. Agnes and Kernan hospitals in Baltimore and Dickinson Medical Group, Milford. Survived by her husband of 29 years, Edward F. Quinn III, M.D. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.
Ratledge, Grace V. 末 Milford. Died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at age 84, in Milford Center, Milford. She worked in a powder plant in Elkton, Md., during World War II, after which she went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a flagman. She most recently was a caregiver to the elderly. Locally survived by her son, Benjamin F. Ratledge of Dover. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Reihms, Leroy John 末 Smyrna. Died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at age 79, in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. He had worked as a farm laborer. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Robinson, Anna L. Ragsdale 末 Smyrna. Died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at age 65, at the home of her daughter in Camden. She had formerly been employed for many years as a bartender at the American Legion Post 14 and the Frontier Room, both in Smyrna, and as a cashier at the Smyrna Texaco and at the Route 8 Stop & Go in Dover. Survived by a special longtime companion with whom she had lived, Robert "Brownie" Brown. Locally survived by a daughter, Teressa "Teri" Denson of Camden; a grandchild, Jason Denson, of Camden; a great-granddaughter, Kylie Denson of Camden; and a stepdaughter, MaryAnne Healey of Camden. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.
