Clendaniel, Paul – Harrington. Died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at age 69, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was a full-time farmer, and worked as an equipment operator for the state of Delaware, retiring in 1990 after more than 37 years, where he worked out of the Harrington yard. He was a member of the North American Hunting Club, the National Rifle Association and was a former member of the Fox Hunters Club in Harrington. Survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosa E. Clendaniel. Locally survived by two sisters, Bertha Macklin of Frederica and Elsie Hickman of Camden-Wyoming. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln.
Comegys, Frances L. – Smyrna. Died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at age 87, at Green Valley Pavilion, Smyrna. She worked as a beautician in Marcus Hook, Pa., for several years. She was a former member of the Gratitude Yacht Club in Rock Hall, Md. Burial was private.
Davis, Helen – Milford. Died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at age 84, at her home. She was employed by Milford Memorial Hospital for 35 years and was a member of Mount Enon Baptist Church, Milford, where she sang in the choir. Burial was in Siloam Cemetery, Slaughter Neck.
Gardley, John Frank Sr. – Smyrna. Died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at age 73, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a truck driver for Coopers and North American Van Lines for many years. Locally survived by a sister, Gwendolyn Benson of Dover; and a brother, Raymond Gardley of Dover. Burial was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Hargis, Annie ‘Clara’ – Clayton. Died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at age 98, at Silver Lake Rehabilitation Center, Dover. She worked at People’s Drug Store at Ward’s Corner in Norfolk, Va., for 28 years before moving to the Smyrna/Clayton area. Locally survived by a daughter, Jean Price Lilliston of Dover; three grandchildren, Christine Allard Layton, Kathy Wyatt and Vernon Wyatt, all of Dover; and three great-grandchildren, Wade Wyatt, Ryan Wyatt and Amber Layton, all of Dover. Burial was in Parksley Cemetery, Parksley, Va.
Hastings, Brandon Michael Wagamon – Milford. Died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at age 19, at A.I. du Pont Children’s Hospital, Wilmington. He was a four-year member of Milford High School’s swim team, and participated in the band and golf team. He was active in Milford Little League for seven years, then helped his father coach. He was a student at University of Delaware at Georgetown, and worked at Meding and Son Seafood. He was a member of Lincoln United Methodist Church in Lincoln, and was a member of the 4-H Club and the Houston Cardinals. Survived by his parents, Mark Steven and Dawn Wagamon Hastings of Milford. Burial was in Milford Community Cemetery, Milford.
McClain, George D. ‘Pappy’ Jr. – Denton, Md. Died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at age 84, at Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was a retired truck driver, and a member of Moose Lodge No. 534 in Harrington. Locally survived by a sister, Josephine Collison of Willow Grove; and a brother William McClain of Dover. Burial was in Denton Cemetery.
Murphy, Etta Masten – Chestertown, Md. Died Wednesday, July 27, 2004, at age 79, in her home. Locally survived by a daughter, Lindale Miller of Dover and a brother, Jim Masten of Kenton. Burial was in Urieville Lake Cemetery.
Murray, Wilson Wilford –– Ridgely, Md. Died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at age 84, at Mallard Bay Nursing Home, Cambridge, Md. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked his entire career with Norris Hayman farming in Caroline County. He was a member of Replanted Zion United Methodist Church. Locally survived by a son, Wilson Murray of Dover; and two daughters, Doris Murray and Barbara Harris, both of Felton. Burial was in Henry Murray Cemetery, Ridgely.
Nisly, Alta J. – Albuquerque, N.M. Died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at age 53, at her home. She was an administrative secretary for Abundant Life Christian School in Albuquerque. Survived by her husband of 27 years, Nevin R. Nisly. Locally survived by her parents, Joseph and Amanda Byler of Dover; a brother and sister-in-law, Lyndon and Jolene Byler of Dover; and three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ida Mae and Daniel Lapp, Erma and Paul Yoder, and Sharon and Harold Kropf, all of Dover. Burial was in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Nuneville, William V. – Lancaster, Pa., formerly of Millville. Died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at age 54, at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, drove a tractor-trailer for Inway Trucking and was a security officer for Eagle Security. He was a former member of VFW Post No. 7 in Lancaster. Survived by his companion of more than 30 years, Carol S. Carper. Locally survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Elda L. and Robert Wootten of Dover. Burial was in Redmen’s Cemetery, Dagsboro.
Roden, Richard William – Henderson, Md. Died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at age 97, at Westminster Village Nursing Home, Dover. A farmer, he also was a Boy Scout leader and he and his late wife, Mary, were foster parents to many local children. Survived locally by two granddaughters, Barbara Richard of Hartly and Janet Hammond of Felton. Burial was in Greensboro Cemetery.
Boddy, Lillian –– Murphy, N.C., formerly of Dover. Died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at age 67, in Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home, Murphy. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
Cornelius, Nancy E. –– Still Pond, Md. Died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at age 57, in her home. She was a lifetime resident of Kent County, where she operated a home cleaning service for 26 years. Survived by her mother, Annabelle Kendall Nickerson of Millington, Md. Locally survived by a brother, William “Nick” Nickerson of Marydel. Services will be held at noon Thursday, June 19, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be private.
Dixon, Julian ‘Herman’ Sr. –– Delaware City. Died Friday, June 13, 2003, at age 66, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division, and had been a heavy equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 25 for 45 years. He also had worked in security at Motiva Refinery for the past year. Survived by his wife, Ardell M. Finnegan Dixon. Locally survived by a brother and sister-in-law, George and Mieko Dixon of Camden. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, in the Chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
Hughes, Cathelene Elizabeth ‘Cain’ –– Milford, formerly of Greenwood. Died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at age 83, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was retired from Neylan Brothers of Harrington and Dover. Locally survived by a brother and sister-in-law, George and Catherine Taylor of Star Hill.
Lightcap, Glenn G. –– Clayton. Died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at age 50, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972, and was later employed as a production worker by VPI-Mirrex Corporation in Delaware City. Locally survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Marsha Cahall of Dover; and two grandchildren, Felicia Cahall and David Cahall Jr., both of Dover. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, in Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Londergan, Thomas Edward ‘Tom’ –– Wilmington. Died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at age 91, in St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington. He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from Ohio State University in 1940, and spent his career as an organic chemist for DuPont, retiring in 1976. Locally survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Sam Griffin of Dover. Burial was in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
Lowder, William M. Jr. ‘Bill’ –– Milton, formerly of York, Pa. Died Friday, June 6, 2003, at age 75, at York Hospital. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Coast Guard, he had lived in Milton for the past 18 years. He was a member of the American Legion in Milton and the International Fire Fighters Association. Locally survived by a stepson, Richard Enders of Dover.
