John P. Kelley, 74
LEWES - John P. Kelley of Lewes died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes. He was 74.
Mr. Kelley was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late Joseph M. and Mae Rose Owens Kelley.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and had served in Germany.
Mr. Kelley was a farmer for many years.
He is survived by four brothers, Martin J. Kelley of Palmyra, N.J., Father Thomas W. Kelley of Beaufort, S.C., David J. Kelley of Wilmington and Donald V. Kelley of Wilmington; and a sister, Suzanne K. Kelley of Wallingford, Pa.
Service and burial will be private.

Betty Jane Nichols, 47
RIDGELY, Md. - Betty Jane Nichols of Ridgely died of natural causes Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Easton. She was 47.
Mrs. Nichols was born Jan. 31, 1953, in Ridgely, the daughter of the late Clarence Gustav and Annie Elizabeth Burns Schmitt.
She was a lifetime residence of Ridgely.
Mrs. Nichols' employment consisted of sitting with the elderly and babysitting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Nichols, who died Oct. 8, 1996.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Kevin Lee Schmitt of Ridgely; a brother, Russell Benferd of Cleveland; a sister, Beverly Ackridge of Ridgely; and two grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Faith Bible Church, Ridgely, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.

Rena ‘Mae' White, 102
MARIETTA, Ga. - Rena "Mae" Gibson White died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Marietta. She was 102.
Ms. White was born Nov. 13, 1898, in Forest City, Pa., the daughter of the late Charles and Jessie Gibson.
The majority of her life was spent in Union Dale, Pa. In later years she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Bill Yonker, in Milford, and in Marietta with her son, Rodney White and his wife, JoAnn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. White; two sons, William and Jess; and two daughters, Corrine and Marion.
In addition to her daughter, son and son-in-law and daughter-in-law, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Bill Yonker Jr. of Milford, Robert Yonker of Smyrna, Corrine White Rubbe of Clearfield, Pa., Charles White of Curwensville, Pa., Delores White of New Jersey, Kyra White Snedecor of Raleigh, N.C., and Kevin White of Powder Springs, Ga.; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Rounds Cemetery in Union Dale at a future date.
Alice M. Eveland, 88
RIDGELY, Md. - Alice M. Eveland of Ridgely died Thursday. Jan. 18, 2001, in Memorial Hospital, Easton. She was 88.
Mrs. Eveland was born in Ridgely, the daughter of the late Raymond C. Wood and Elizabeth Lawless Wood.
She had lived in Ridgely all her life.
She was a graduate of Ridgely High School.
Mrs. Eveland was member of St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church in Ridgely.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Eveland, on June 20, 1993; a daughter, Betty Eveland; a sister, Mary E. Greaves and two brothers, Raymond C. Wood Jr. and Stephen M. Wood.
She is survived by a son, William P. Eveland of Ridgely; a sister, Teresa R. Wood of Ridgely; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St. in Denton where a Rosary will be said at 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Central Avenue, Ridgely.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, near Greensboro.

Arturo L. Bassols, 68
FELTON - Arturo L. Bassols of Felton died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in Life Care at Lofland Park, Seaford. He was 68.
Mr. Bassols was a featured artist of the American House Gallery in the 1960s and at many area and national art shows. He was an art teacher for the Milford School District, and then, for 28 years, was an art instructor at Delaware State University (Delaware State College until 1994) until retiring in 1999. He participated in the Quincentenary Tour of Latin Contemporary Art in 1992-1993.
He is survived by four daughters, Ceila Peterson of Washington, D.C., Barbara Leidy of Rehoboth Beach, Cristina Palmer of Milton and Evlyn Spiezio of Dover; six grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Elyse, Michelle, Danielle, Shaun, Rachel and Annie; and a devoted and faithful companion, his dog Pepper.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Henlopen Park, Milton.

Ralph M. Bickling Sr., 85
WILMINGTON - Ralph M. Bickling Sr. of Wilmington, and formerly of Millsboro, died of natural causes Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Manor Care Pike Creek, Wilmington. He was 85.
Mr. Bickling was born Nov. 20, 1915, in Henderson, N.C., son of the late Louis Carroll and Clara Blanche Diggins Bickling.
He was employed by Mannington Mills in Salem, N.J., as an assistant plant manager, retiring in 1979.
Mr. Bickling was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Chester, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Bickling, Oct. 22, 1988; and all his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Bickling; two sons, Ralph Bickling Jr. of Newark and Carl Bickling of Claymont; a stepdaughter, Janet Kaas of Pottstown, Pa.; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home P.A., 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, Md.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.
Stephen 'Murph' De Cubellis, 83
CENTREVILLE - Stephen "Murph" De Cubellis of Centreville died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 83.
Mr. De Cubellis was born in Providence, R.I., Sept. 11, 1917, the son of the late Antonio and Andelina Perotti DeCubellis.
He attended George West Junior High School and the Blessed Sacrament where he played baseball.
In 1939, he was signed by the Boston Red Sox for their Farm League and assigned to Centreville and played in the Eastern Shore Baseball League. In 1941 he was sold to the Baltimore Orioles.
On Oct. 11, 1942, he married the former Helen Benton.
Mr. DeCubellis then served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. On the Island of Saipan, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.
After the war, he returned home to play with the Baltimore Orioles, but was unable to fulfill his major league contract due to his war injuries.
Residing in Centreville, he began working with the Centreville Town Utilities and later worked for the Centreville Postal Office where he retired after 30 years.
He was a member of the Survivors Club 4th Division, U.S. Marines, The Methodist Men, The American Legion Jeff Davis Post in Centreville, The Centreville Town Council, was a volunteer for the Centreville Ambulance and ran the Centreville Little League.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Stephen DeCubellis of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter, Helen Derwin of Eldersburg: two sisters, Mary Gormley and Margaret Kirkwood; five grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Memorial service will be noon Tuesday at the Centreville United Methodist Church, Centreville.

Doris M. 'Mom mom' Grimm, 77
DOVER - Doris M. "Mom mom" Grimm of Dover died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Christiana Hospital, Newark, surrounded by her family. She was 77.
Mrs. Grimm was born June 24, 1923, in Millville, N.J., daughter of the late John and Tillie (Coare) Young.
She served in the U.S. Army Women Corps as a tech 4 in the medical department. She was a optholmoprosthetic technician, making artificial eyes.
Mrs. Grimm worked as a secretary at General Food (Kraft Foods), retiring after 18 years.
She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren, bowling, photography, needlework and ceramics.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence D. Grimm Sr.; a sister, Matilda Phifer Hughes; four brothers, John, Herbert, Norman and David Young.
She is survived by a son, Lawrence Dale Grimm Jr. of Dover; three daughters, Bonnie Grimm Maloney of Greenwood, Donna M. Grimm of Dover and Pamela Grimm Forester of Lutherville, Md.; four brothers, Walter Young of New Castle, Bob Young of Colorado, Richard Young of Texas and Verna Brown of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Remembrance service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the time of the service.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Mabel Horney Cole, 75
EASTON, Md. - Mabel Horney Cole of Easton died of natural causes Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Easton, Easton. She was 75.
Mrs. Cole was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Bridgetown, daughter of the late Alpheus A. and Laney E. Dean Horney.
She was a lifetime resident of this area.
She was a seamstress for the Perfect Garment Co.
Mrs. Cole was a member of Bay Country Moose Club in Queenstown.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Cole Sr.; a son, James Elmer Cole Jr. of Henderson; a daughter, Jean DeFord of Ridgely; a brother, Roy Horney of Denton; a sister, Kathryn Stranahan of Ridgely; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgely.
Elaine M. Thacker, 49
DOVER - Elaine M. Thacker of Dover died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, after suffering from cerebral palsy for all of her life. She was 49.
Ms, Thacker was born in Baltimore, daughter of Mathilda Thacker of Dundalk, Md., and the late Jacob Thacker.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Thacker.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by several cousins, including Jeffery Botteon, with whom she had lived in Dover; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ The King Catholic Church, 335 Sollers Point Road, Dundalk.
Burial will be in Garden of Faith Cemetery in Edgewood, Md.

Helen F. Kelly, 100
SEAFORD - Helen F. Kelly of Seaford died of congestive heart failure Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in the Seaford Center, Seaford. She was 100.
Mrs. Kelly worked as a registrar for 20 years for Catholic Sisters College in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1966.
Formerly of Hyattsville, Md., she retired to Seaford in 1969.
Mrs. Kelly was a member of the Seaford Spade and Trowel Garden Club and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Seaford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin J. Kelly, in 1973.
She is survived by a son, Edwin J. Kelly Jr. of Bridgeville; a daughter, Nancy Pare of Ridgewood, N.J.; a sister, Sister Mary Agatha, of Villa Assumpta, Baltimore; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Hardesty Funeral Home, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville. A Rosary will be at 8 p.m.
Service will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Stein Highway, Seaford.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md.
William Randolph 'Bill' Taylor, 63
SEAFORD - William "Bill" Randolph Taylor died Sunday, March 25, 2001. He was 63.
Mr. Taylor, affectionately known as Bill, was born Jan. 17, 1938, in Atlantic City, N.J., son of the late Emma Smith and Eli Taylor.
He was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated from Dobbins High School.
Mr. Taylor enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1956-1960, at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas.
He worked as a cardboard manufacturer while in Philadelphia. Upon relocating to Wilmington to be close to his mother, he worked as a welder at the Budd plant in Eagleville, Pa.
Mr. Taylor met his soulmate, Wanda, whom he ultimately married Feb. 4, 1983. Of this union, two children were born, Lance Taylor and Mark Taylor, now of Seaford. The family soon relocated to Seaford, where he often enjoyed watching and discussing sports programs with his sons.
Mrs. Taylor's mother, the late Delores Barrett, often teased him and said he "sang Wanda's name." He was especially grateful for Mark's assisting him as his health began to deteriorate, and always commented on his gratitude to Wanda for "hanging in there" with him though sickness and in health. He frequently expressed that she was a "good girl," and that he wouldn't trade her in for anything.
He was an avid sports enthusiast and could recall statistics of most sports entities dating back to his teen years. However, he was a hardcore Philly team fan, and often could be found expressing his disgust for their losses or joy for their wins.
Mr. Taylor was a handsome, mild-mannered man with a warm personality. He frequently enjoyed country-western and oldies music. He will be especially missed.
In addition to his parents and mother-in-law, he was preceded in death by a son, Danton Taylor, who had lived in Philadelphia.
In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by four daughters, Karyn Taylor of Lansdowne, Pa., and Renee Williams, Roxanne Alston and Denise Roane, all of Philadelphia; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; his father-in-law, Granville Barrett; and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. George A.M.E. Church in Lewes, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in People's Cemetery, Lewes.

W. Elmond 'Dude' Gray Jr., 80
MILLSBORO - W. Elmond "Dude" Gray Jr., of Millsboro, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in his home. He was 80.
Mr. Gray was born in Dagsboro, son of the late William Elmond Sr. and Marguerite Hickman Gray.
He was a self-employed farmer. He had also been a service man for Collins and Ryan Gas Co. in Millsboro for many years.
Mr. Gray was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in millsboro.
He is survive dby his wife of 52 years, Lillian A. Gray; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deanna H. and Darryl McCabe, of Wilmington, and Ruth Ann Justice of Dagsboro; four grandchildren and their spouses, Terri and Kevin Smith, Clark and Tracey McCabe, Cindy and Rob Collins, and Todd McCabe; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Dr. James C. Van Der Wall will officiate.
Burial will be in the Dagsboro Redmens Memorial Cemetery, Dagsboro.
