A funeral service for Ethel Catherine Bowman, 97, of Dover, was held on Saturday, June 20 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Mendham, N.J. Mrs. Bowman died Monday, June 15, 1998 in Silver Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Bowman was born in 1900 in New York, N.Y., the daughter of the late Ludwig and Christine Anderson.
She worked as a secretary in New York for the Treasure of Baptist Missionary.
Mrs. Bowman volunteered for the Red Cross in the 1950s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bowman, in 1964, and a son, Joseph Bowman.
Mrs. Bowman is survived by her son, Thomas Bowman of Mendham, N.J.; a daughter, Joan Coker of Dover; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
There was also a graveside service on Saturday, June 20 at Mendham Hilltop Cemetery in N.J.
Local arrangements were by Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.
Lulu A. Poore
A private funeral service was held for Lula A. Poore, 95, of Smyrna. Mrs. Poore died Monday, June 15, 1998 in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill.
Mrs. Poore was born in 1903 in Milford, the daughter of the late Alfred B. and Emma Wilson Davidson.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Poore enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Poore, in 1983.
Mrs. Poore is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Ila Poore of Smyrna; two daughters, Doris P. Moore of Smyrna, and Sandra Lee Poore of Millsboro; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Faries Funeral Directors, Inc., Smyrna.
Burial was private.
Agnes H. Twilley
A funeral service for Agnes H. Twilley, 84, of Delmar, was held on Friday, June 19 at Short Funeral Home, Delmar. Mrs. Twilley died Tuesday, June 16, 1998 in Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.
Mrs. Twilley was born in Delmar, the daughter of the late Elmer and Edith Hastings.
She was retired from the former W.R. Wilson Pant Factory in Delmar.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Madeline Ann Swift, in 1983.
Mrs. Twilley is survived by a son, William R. Twilley of Wyoming; a brother, William L. Hastings of Seaford; a sister, Majoyce C. Legates of Salisbury; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Catherine I. McVaugh, 90, of Smyrna, was held on Thursday, June 18 in Lawncroft Cemetery, Linwood. Mrs. McVaugh died Monday, June 15, 1998 in Integrated Health Services of Delaware at Kent Nursing Home in Smyrna.
Mrs. McVaugh was born in 1908 in Clayton, the daughter of the late Elmer and Mabel Tribbitt Foraker.
She was a nurses aide for Fairview Nursing Home in Linwood, Pa., before working for Boeing Aircraft, also of Linwood, for several years. She retired in 1980.
Mrs. McVaugh was preceded in death by her husband, William McVaugh, in 1984.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Dash of Doylestown, Pa., and her caregiver, Doris Stubbs of Smyrna.

William J. Leonard
A funeral service for William J. Leonard, 85, of Dover, was held on Monday, June 22 in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. Mr. Leonard died Tuesday, June 16, 1998 in his home.
Mr. Leonard was born in Easton, Md. in 1912, son of the late William Clyde and Ella Malinda Cryer Leonard.
He was employed by Delaware Farm Credit of Dover as Secretary and Treasurer and retired in 1975 after 30 years of service.
Mr. Leonard was a member of the Frederica Methodist Church and the Frederica Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie F. Leonard, in 1997, and a brother, Francis Leonard.
Mr. Leonard is survived by three sons, Gene F. Leonard of Ardmore, Pa., John W. Leonard of Luray, Va., and Robert F. Leonard of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery in Frederica.
Leo Franklin Johnson Sr.
A funeral service for Leo Franklin Johnson Sr., 72, of Felton, was held on Monday, June 22 at Trader Funeral Home, Dover. Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, June 17, 1998 in Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Johnson was the son of the late William Madison and Anna Julian Mabrey Johnson.
He was a truck driver for Teal Construction Co. in Dover for over 20 years.
He enjoyed working outdoors and in his garden.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge #203, and an associate member of V.F.W. #652 in Millington, Md.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Connors Johnson, in 1993; a brother, Clifton R. Johnson, in 1996; and a sister, Anna E. Garrett, in 1972.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Pearl Austin Johnson of Felton; a son, Leo F. Johnson Jr. of Middletown; a daughter, L. Marie "Sue" Condron of Clayton; a stepson, Raymond Reed of Zephyrhills, Fla.; two step-daughters, Elva Blendt of Woodland Beach and Barbara Lowman of Smyrna; four brothers, James M. Johnson of Dover, William B. Johnson, John T. Johnson and Lester E. Johnson, all of Clayton; two sisters, Minnie Pryatt and Hazel Hamilton, both of Clayton; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service for Joan Frances Cromer, 58, of Houston, was held on Saturday, June 20 at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. Mrs. Cromer died after a brave fight with lung cancer on Thursday, June 18, 1998 in her daughter's home.
Mrs. Cromer was born on Jan. 14, 1940, in Flushing, N.Y., the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Agnes Kral.
She worked briefly for the FBI as a secretary.
Mrs. Cromer enjoyed many things in life, but above all else, watching the success of her children.
She also loved to read, listen to music (especially Yanni), watch television, and spend time with her grandchildren.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and all-around good person, who always thought of others before herself.
Mrs. Cromer was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Emily, in 1996.
She is survived by her husband, Leon L. Cromer; two daughters, Pamela A. Mosier and her husband, Daniel of Bellville, Ohio, Kimberly A. Megonigal and her husband, Jeffrey of Houston; two sons, Christopher L. Cromer and Dean A. Cromer, both of Dover; five grandchildren, Andrew, Keith, Amanda, Matthew and Joseph; and three sisters, Marie Fleisher of Palm Springs, Calif., Arlene Smith of Oconto, Wisc., and Evelyn Renkewitz of East Northport, N.Y.
A memorial service for Antione L. Adams, 18, of Dover, was held on Saturday, June 20 at Mount Zion AME Church, Dover. Mr. Adams died Saturday, June 13, 1998 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Mr. Adams was born on Jan. 7, 1980, in Easton, Md., the son of Gail Adams Peoples and Edward A. Hutchins of Dover, and the stepson of Karl E. Peoples of Easton.
He began his education in the public schools of Caroline County, Md., and after moving to Dover, he attended the public schools of Kent County. He graduated from Caesar Rodney High School on June 6 and was preparing to attend Delaware State University in the fall.
Antoine was employed at Lone Star Steakhouse in Dover as a prep cook.
He attended Mount Zion AME Church of Dover occasionally with his grandparents. He also attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Dover with his mother.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, he is survived by two daughters, Akilah L. Adams and Aja Johnson, both of Dover; his grandparents, Edward and Aletha Hutchins, both of Dover, and Elsie Homes of Federalsburg, Md.; two sisters, Kayla Peoples and LeAnn F. of Dover; a brother, Earl E. Peoples of Annapolis, Md.; three uncles, Charles Adams, Keenan Hutchins and Dwayne Holmes, all of Dover; three aunts, Eugenia Smith of Cambridge, Md., Angela Holmes of Federalsburg, and Malica Dunnock of Columbia, Md.; three close cousins, Keenan Hutchins Jr. of Dover, and Glenda and Christi Camper of Cambridge, Md.; a devoted friend, Carla M. Sanders of Dover; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
Frances L. Freeman
A funeral service for Frances L. Freeman, 56, of Dover, was held on Saturday, June 20 at First Pilgrim Baptist Church, Camden. Mrs. Freeman died of cardiac arrest on Monday, June 15, 1998 in Kent General Hospital.
Mrs. Freeman was born in 1942 in Milford, the daughter of the late Dawson and Audrey Hudson.
She was a high school graduate.
Mrs. Freeman was an employee at Kent General Hospital for 18 years.
She was a member of the First Pilgrim Baptist Church, Camden, where she was the church treasurer.
Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Freeman.
She is survived by a son, Guy Freeman of Dover; two daughters, Audrey Singletary and Joann Burton, both of Dover; two sisters, Gail Ridgeway of Dover and Linda McCain of Germany; five brothers, Earl Hudson, Edward Hudson, Alvin Hudson, Aurbery Hudson, and Donald Hudson, all of Dover; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
