SUN CITY, Fla. - Eleanor T. Piser of Sun City died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in Sun City. She was 85.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James C. Piser; a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Carol Piser of Tampa; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and John Fenlon of Fairfax, Va.; and four granddaughters.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 13 Pennington St., Middletown, Del.
Burial will be in Old St. Anne's Cemetery, Middletown.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to one's favorite charity.

Dr. Witney Holland Rose, 34
CATONSVILLE, Md. - Dr. Witney Holland Rose of Catonsville was found dead Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, in her home. She was 34.
Dr. Rose was born in Baltimore, daughter of Dorothy Jean Dixon of Dover, Del., and Stanley John Rose Jr. of Rochester, N.Y.
She attended John Paul Regional School and was a 1986 graduate of Western High School. She first attended Spelman College, Atlanta, then earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Florida, Gainesville.
Beginning in 1990, she worked in finance for NationsBank, Charlotte, N.C., but decided in 1991 to switch careers from finance to medicine and was currently a second-year resident in the department of psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She took courses at Coppin State College while working in the office of Dr. Marsha Brown in Baltimore. She later enrolled at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, from which she earned her medical degree in May 2001.
Dr. Rose was an active participant in Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism. Her first love was dance, and she began formal instruction in ballet as soon as she could walk. She continued to dance - ballet, jazz and tap. She also had a passion for horses and riding, despite an incident while she was in elementary school in which a horse bucked and landed on her, shattering her elbow. She also enjoyed music, tennis, painting and walking.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Quincy Lucas of Dover; and many other relatives and friends.
Services will be noon Wednesday at March Funeral Home West, 4300 Wabash Ave., Baltimore, where friends may call after 11:30 a.m.

Barbara Jean 'Bobbie' Buck Young Saunders, 85
TURLOCK, Calif. - Barbara Jean "Bobbie" Buck Young Saunders of Turlock, and formerly of Seaford, Del., died of natural causes Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in Turlock. She was 85.
Mrs. Saunders was born Oct. 29, 1917, in San Francisco.
She attended school in Fairfield, and graduated from Samuel Merritt Hospital, Oakland, as a registered nurse.
Mrs. Saunders joined the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps and met and married U.S. Navy pilot Thomas R. Young Jr.
She continued her nursing career as a private-duty nurse in Seaford. After moving to Turlock, she was an office nurse for Dr. Robert Clark until her retirement.
Mrs. Saunders was active in the Seaford community while living there and was a eucharistic minister at St. Francis Church, Turlock.
She is survived by her second husband, Clark Saunders; two sisters, Edith Oliver of Turlock and Dorothy Kaplan of Stockton; a daughter, Nancy Young Turner of Middletown, Del.; two grandsons, David Turner of Arlington, Texas, and U.S. Air Force Capt. James Turner of San Antonio; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service was at St. Francis Church, Turlock.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Francis Episcopal Church, 915 E. Main St., Turlock, CA 95380; or to a charity of one's choice.

Mary Ann Warner, 76
REHOBOTH BEACH - Mary Ann Warner of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Easton, Md., died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in her home. She was 76.
Mrs. Warner was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Trappe, Md., daughter of the late James and Katherine Bildstein Emerson.
She attended public school in Talbot County, Md., graduating in 1942.
In 1951, she married Robert K. Warner; they made their home in Easton. Mr. Warner died in 1972. Mrs. Warner worked as a clerk for the C&P Telephone Co. for more than 19 years, retiring in 1990.
Mrs. Warner was a former member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Easton. She also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Shawn Warner, in 1993.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Chris Martin of Rehoboth Beach; a son, Steve Warner of Allentown, Pa.; a brother, James Emerson of Boston; a sister, Katherine Emerson of Easton; and four grandchildren, Justin, Joshua, Jessica and Kaytlin.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home PA, Easton, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.
The family suggests memorial donations to Gull House Adult Day Care Center, 23 Terrace Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.

Clara Mae Schlabach Yoder, 85
GREENWOOD - Clara Mae Schlabach Yoder of Greenwood died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, in her home. She was 85.
Mrs. Yoder was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Thomas, Okla., daughter of the late Elias Schlabach and Minnie Lantz Schlabach.
Her love of life was dulled by many years of Parkinson's disease, but she never ceased struggling against this illness.
Mrs. Yoder was a member of Laws Mennonite Church, Frederica.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Ellen Schlabach and Sylvia Miller; a brother, Clayton Schlabach; and her stepmother, Beulah Schrock Schlabach.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, who provided total and committed care for her, David Yoder Jr.; four children and their spouses, Ilva and David Hertzler of Dryden, Ontario, Canada, Don and Marlene Yoder of Pulaski, Va., Ken and Kathy Yoder of Elizabethtown, Pa., and Karen and Steve Miller of Goshen, Ind.; nine loving grandchildren, Edwin Hertzler, Conrad Hertzler, April Garthwaite, Rebecca Hochstetler, Anthony Yoder, Jewel Miller, Erin Yoder, Melody Miller and Todd Miller; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Garthwaite; two brothers, Alva Schlabach and David Schlabach, both of Sarasota, Fla.; and a sister, Mildred Miller of Pierceton, Ind.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at Greenwood Mennonite Church.
Her life will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mary Lee Cartwright, 76
GOLDSBORO, Md. - Mary Lee Cartwright of Goldsboro died of natural causes Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in her home. She was 76.
Ms. Cartwright was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Goldsboro, daughter of George Leroy Cartwright of Goldsboro and the late Ruth (Shockley) Cartwright. She was a lifetime resident of Goldsboro.
She graduated from Greensboro High School and from Beacom College, Wilmington, Del.
Ms. Cartwright worked for the Maryland Department of Social Services as a secretary, retiring after 30 years of service.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home PA, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery.

Jean Dukes Banks, 67
LAUREL - Jean Dukes Banks of Laurel died of complications of cancer Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in her home. She was 67.
Mrs. Banks was born in Laurel, daughter of the late Silas Edward and Mae West Dukes.
She will be remembered for her love of her faith, family and friends.
Mrs. Banks was a member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar, and of the church's Deborah's Circle.
She is survived by her husband, C. Kirk Banks of Laurel; two sons and two daughters-in-laws, Kevin and Kim Banks and Jeffrey and Joy Banks, all of Laurel; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Debra and Dave Kiser and Holly and Steve Adkins, all of Laurel; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ross S. and Thelma Jean Dukes and Dale R. and Dottie Dukes, all of Laurel; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews
Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Seaford Wesleyan Church, "The Ark," between Seaford and Laurel.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the church, where friends also may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Tim Dukes and the Rev. Dave Kiser, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery, Laurel.

Mazie M. Mahr, 95
SEAFORD - Mazie M. Mahr of Seaford died of heart failure Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Chancellor Health Care, Delmar. She was 95.
Mrs. Mahr retired in 1966 from Walker Garment Factory, Seaford.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roscoe Hensley, in 1935; her second husband, Christian B. Mahr, in 1955; and two children, Edward Mahr and Wanda Walker.
She is survived by four sons, Chris Mahr of North Olmsted, Ohio, Carl Mahr of Arnold, Md., and Bruce Mahr and William Mahr, both of Seaford; two daughters, Betty Bowdle of Federalsburg, Md., and Victoria Pfeifle of Georgetown; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
A service and burial will be private.

Betty J. Mays, 71
LEWES - Betty J. Mays, of Lewes died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 71.
Mrs. Mays was born in Norristown, Pa., daughter of the late Clarence A. and Alice Brooms Hurst.
She was employed for nine years as a circuit board designer for the Gull Aircraft Manufacturing Co, retiring in 1988.
She received the Ralph Helms Fellow Award from the Rehoboth Beach Lions Club, District 22D. She was a member of the YMCA, and enjoyed crafts and playing bridge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Mays, in 1998; and a brother, C. Arthur Hurst.
She is survived by three sons, James P. Mays Jr. of Bayshore, N.Y., Matthew J. Mays of Rehoboth Beach and Thomas G. Mays of Commack, N.Y.; a sister, Doris H. Messick of Cambridge, Md.; and two grandchildren.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.
Burial will follow in Henlopen Memorial Park, Del. 1, Milton.

Mary Louise Moore
CHESWOLD - Mary Louise Moore of Cheswold died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Ms. Moore was born in Cheswold, daughter of the late George and Margaret (Vane) Moore.
She graduated cum laude from Washington College, Chestertown, Md., in 1935.
She began teaching Latin and English in the public schools of Chincoteague, Va., and then taught at Bel Air High School, Harford County, Md., for 40 years.
She made Cheswold her home most of her life, she was a member of the Cheswold United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a foster brother, Edward L. Pyle of Folsom, Pa.; four cousins, Denny Moore of Exton, Pa., Phillip Moore of Frederica, Hazel Sapp of Dover and Jane Davis of California; two companions and caregivers, Winnie Seeney and Sissy Seeney, both of Cheswold; and her loving dog, Maggie.
A remembrance service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony. The Rev. Charlene Evans will officiate.
Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery, Cheswold.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Kent County SPCA.

Mary Elizabeth Patterson, 81
DOVER - Mary Elizabeth Patterson of Dover died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in the Capitol Healthcare Center, Dover. She was 81.
Mrs. Patterson was born April 25, 1919, in Minneapolis, Minn., daughter of the late Walter and Pauline (Singerly) Morrison.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Patterson was a member of Capitol Baptist Church, Dover, and the Camden/Wyoming Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Frank Patterson, in 1987.
She is survived by a son, Robert John Patterson of Elkton, Md.; two daughters, Anne Mayer of Wyoming and Mary Lou Anthony of Harrington; two brothers, Darrell Morrison of New York and Vincent Morrison of Minneapolis; two sisters, Betty Smith and Margaret Morrison, both of Minnesota; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Capitol Baptist Church, 401 Kesselring Ave., Dover.
Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

Leonard C. Reynolds Sr., 80
GREENWOOD - Leonard C. Reynolds Sr. of Greenwood died Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 80.
Mr. Reynolds was born May 3, 1920, near Smyrna, the son of the late Aaron T. and Ida Argo Reynolds.
He attended Smyrna High School and two years of Goldey-Beacom College.
Mr. Reynolds was a World War II veteran of the Army Airborne and received the Purple Heart after being wounded in the Ardennes Forrest Campaign.
He worked as a supervisor for the state for several years before retiring.
He enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Reynolds was a member of the Men's Club of Calvary United Methodist Church, Milford.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth L. Reynolds; two sons, John W. Reynolds of Wilmington and Leonard C. Reynolds Jr. of Milford; a brother, Allen T. Reynolds of Clayton; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

James A. 'Jim' Scott, 83
MIDDLETOWN - James A. "Jim" Scott of Middletown died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 83.
Mr. Scott retired from the town of Middletown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Scott, in 1991.
He is survived by a son, Nathaniel J. Scott of Middletown; two daughters, Anna L. Seaberg of Dover and Patricia A. Knight of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Frances Scotten of Dover and Helen Cahall of Smyrna; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Gee Lambert Smack, 72
PHILADELPHIA - Gee Lambert Smack of Philadelphia died after a brief illness Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in his home. He was 72.
Mr. Smack was born July 5, 1928, in Berlin, Md., the son of the late Georgianna and Elder John Smack.
He attended Germantown Elementary School and continued his education in Delaware, graduating from the Frederick Douglass School in 1946.
He was employed by O.A. Newton and Sons, Bridgeville, Del., for a while. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he furthered his education and received an honorable discharge after 20 years of service as a sergeant first class. After retirement he made his home in Philadelphia, where he was employed by the Philadelphia School District as an instructor for a vocational school.
Mr. Smack was a very quiet and gentle person. To know him was to love him. He always had a smile, and at family gatherings, he enjoyed teasing different family members. His sisters mainly remember how he enjoyed messing up their hands. His baby sister remembers he taught her how to drive a four-speed tractor, which put her ahead of her class in driver's education in high school. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by three daughters, Myrna Smack and Melissa Smack, both of Seaford, Del., and LaTonya Smack of California; a stepdaughter, Shiree Perkins of Wilmington, Del.; a son, Michael Smack of Philadelphia; a stepson, Reynolds Collins of New Jersey; five sisters, Ann Townes of Philadelphia, with whom he lived, Frances Camper of Sharptown, Va., and Rosa Handy and Prattis and Sarah Cummings, all of Seaford; a brother, Leon Smack of Laurel; six grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Front Street, Seaford, where friends may call two hours prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Eva Mae Toppin, 78
RIDGELY, Md. - Eva Mae Toppin of Ridgely died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in her home. She was 78.
She is survived by her daughter, Inez Toppin of Alexandria, Va.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Easton.

Calvin J. 'Buddy' Welch Jr., 64
FAIRLEE, Md. - Calvin J. "Buddy" Welch Jr. of Fairlee died of heart failure Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore. He was 64.
Mr. Welch was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was an administrative officer for the Maryland State Highway Department for 37 years, retiring in 1993. He also worked during his retirement for the Chestertown Bank of Maryland as a courier.
He loved to fish and garden, and could often be found in his workshop woodworking and creating crafts. Most recently he enjoyed spending time farming with his son.
Mr. Welch was a past president of the Chestertown Cotillion Club, and a past president of the Chestertown Cruise Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Pearl Younger Welch; and a brother, Harold Welch.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Anna Welch; two daughters, Melissa W. Horsey and Molly E. Brink, both of Chestertown; a son, James Gregory Welch of Chestertown; a brother, Marion Welch of Barclay; and five grandchildren, Jennifer Horsey, Lauren Horsey, Gregory Welch, Travus Welch and Cody Brink.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Chestertown.
Burial will be in the St. Paul's Church Cemetery.

Lela L. Baynum, 75
HARBESON - Lela L. Baynum of Harbeson died Thursday, April 17, 2003, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark, from injuries received in a traffic accident. She was 75.
Mrs. Baynum was born in Fairmount, between Georgetown and Angola, daughter of the late Alfred McIlvaine and Eliza Stockley Prettyman.
She was an inspector for Allen Family Foods for many years, retiring in 1981.
Mrs. Baynum was a member of the Harbeson United Methodist Church, and of the CHEER Center in Georgetown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry T. "Pete" Baynum, in 1986; a brother, Earl McIlvaine; and a sister, Aleine Hurdle.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kim Epolito and Victor Epolito Jr. of Milton; a step-granddaughter, Jill Litten; and a twin sister, Phyllis Hastings of Georgetown.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Harbeson United Methodist Church, Del. 5 and U.S. 9, Harbeson, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Harbeson U.M. Church, PO Box 45, Harbeson, DE 19951.
