Doris Blanchard Snover

Funeral services for Doris Blanchard Snover, 86, of Florida, formerly of Dover, were held Friday, Sept. 26, at the Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. Mrs. Snover died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at The Court at Palm Air Health Center, Florida.

Mrs. Snover was born Dec. 16, 1916 in Ringwood, N.J., daughter of Allan and Sarah MacDonald Blanchard.

After spending her early childhood in Erie, Pa., she spent seven years at the Masonic Home Orphanage in Burlington County, N.J. She had fond memories of her life there and kept in touch with many “Home Kids” over the years.

Mrs. Snover was a registered nurse with the Burlington County Hospital and was a member of the Eastern Star for 25 years as well as a member of the AARP.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen Snover, on July 16, 1996, as well as six siblings.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn S. and Richard Leys of Pompano Beach, Fla.,; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Allen Frank and Nikole Snover of Galena, Md. and Robert Blanchard Snover of Felton; and a brother, Ted Blanchard of Milwaukee, Ore.

She also is survived by a granddaughter, Holly C. Scott of Pennsburg, Pa., a great granddaughter, Steffanie S. Scott and a great great granddaughter, Jasmine S. Ryer.

Burial will be at the family’s convenience in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg, Pa.

Nora Louise ‘Aunt Nora’ Waller

Services for Nora Louise “Aunt Nora” Waller, 84, of Felton, formerly of Salisbury, Md., were held Monday, Sept. 29, at Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood. Mrs. Waller died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford, in the presence of loved ones.

Mrs. Waller was born Dec. 6, 1918, near Laurel, daughter of the late Reuben C. and Naomi H. Rayne.

She was a 1936 graduate of Laurel High School.

Mrs. Waller retired from Vernon Powell Shoes in Salisbury, Md., in the late 1970s.

She possessed a kind and generous heart. She loved animals and cherished many pet cats, dogs and birds throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling back in time through books and loved the challenge of word games and puzzles. She looked forward to the summer because she loved her garden, going to the beach, and the family crab feast. Family and friends will miss her wonderful oyster fritters, seasoned with her sense of humor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. Waller; two brothers, Harris Rayne and Leonard C. Rayne; and a sister, Mary Fleetwood.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan W. Miccio of Felton; a niece and best friend, Donna Reynolds and her husband, Bob, of Greenwood; three nieces, Josephine Cherrix of Elliott City, Md., and Joyce Jones and Beverly Hastings, both of Millsboro; and many friends.

Burial was in Springhill Memory Gardens, Salisbury, Md.

Albert S. Weatherby Jr.

Services for Albert S. Weatherby Jr., 80, of Dover were held Friday, Sept. 26, at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, Dover. Mr. Weatherby died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Mr. Weatherby was born in Collingdale, Pa., son of the late Albert S. and Pearl Lewis Weatherby.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He had operated an auto-sales-and-service business serving the south New Jersey area, and retired in 1988. He had moved from Gloucester County, N.J., to Dover in 2001.

Mr. Weatherby was a person who valued the time spent with his family and close circle of friends, and was especially fond of coin-collecting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Anne Gerigtan, in 1998; and a brother, Frank.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Zurlo Weatherby of Dover; a son, Albert S. Weatherby III of Annapolis, Md.; a brother, Edward, of Westover, Md.; two sisters, Dorothy Anne Tapper of Crisfield, Md., and Mary Elizabeth McMenemin of Elverson, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

Burial was in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer, Pa.

Mildred Ann Weyant

Services for Mildred Ann Weyant, 70, of Dover were held Monday, Sept. 29, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover. Mrs. Weyant died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington.

Mrs. Weyant was born April 26, 1933, in Milford, daughter of the late Andrew Lloyd and Mary Virginia Armour Purcell.

She was a graduate of Dover High School and was a lifelong resident of the Dover and Wyoming area.

Mrs. Weyant was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover; a charter board member of The Shepherd Place, Dover; past president of the board for Harvest Years Senior Center; past president of American Legion Post 40 Auxiliary; and a former member of the American Heart Association, the 34th District Democratic Committee and the Holy Cross Samaritans.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Thomas E. Weyant of Dover; four sons and the wives of three, Michael Weyant of Camden, Jeffrey and Karen Weyant of Shoemakersville, Pa., Mark and Diana Weyant of Dover and Robert and Carol Weyant of Smyrna: and a foster son, Roy Hutson, and Mr. Hutson’s wife, Tammy, both of Felton.

She also is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Jan and David Walls and Jill and Ron Usilton, all of Camden; a brother, David Purcell of Ogallala, Neb.; and three sisters, Betty Polite of Lewes, Grace Sullivan of Wichita, Kan., and Mary Lou Beachy of Greenwood.

In addition, Mrs. Weyant is survived by her stepmother, Mattie Purcell of Rileyville, Va.; four stepsisters, Anda White of Richlands, Va., Julie Ramey of Luray, Va., Connie Connally of Albuquerque, N.M., and Bertha Dale Chaplin of Arlington, Va.; eight grandchildren, Eric Weyant, Matthew Walls, Andrew Walls, Tonya Weyant, Spencer Weyant, Carlie Usilton, Joshuah Usilton and Dustin Gondeck; and a great-grandchild, Eric Walls.

Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.

James E. Blackwell, Jr.

Services for James E. Blackwell Jr., 51, of Dover were held Saturday, June 14, in Faith, Hope and Love Church, Milford. Mr. Blackwell died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in his home.

Mr. Blackwell was born in Winston Salem, N.C., and was a master carpenter.

His father, the Rev. James E. Blackwell Sr., and his grandmother, Daisy Liles, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his mother, Daisy C. Blackwell of Milford; his wife, Susan Smith-Blackwell; five sons, James E. Blackwell III, Jason E. Smith, Justin E. Smith, and Byron Martin, all of Dover and Kyle L. Scott of Harrington; and two daughters, Tyna L. Daniels of Lincoln and Jamie E. Smith of Maxton, N.C.

He also is survived by his mother-in-law, Laura B. Smith of Harrington; a daughter-in-law, Lolita Blackwell of Dover; a son-in-law, Maurice Daniels of Lincoln; three sisters, Minister Kaye Baynard, Minister Janice Love of Dover and Maxine Wanzer of Milford; three sisters-in-law; Gladys Russ, Frances Smith and Angela Smith of Harrington; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Master Sgt. John Wilmur Bordley, USAF (Ret.)

Services for John Wilmur Bordley, 67, of Dover will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Calvary Baptist Church, Queen and Fulton streets, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier. Mr. Bordley died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in his home.

Mr. Bordley was born June 12, 1935, in Philadelphia, son of the late John London and Dorothy Bordley.

He received his education in the Philadelphia school system.

Mr. Bordley served in the U.S. Navy for four years and in the U.S. Air Force for 16 years, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He retired in 1974 at McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.

He moved to Dover in 1974 and worked for a number of years at General Foods (now Kraft Foods). He was known by all as a hard-working, very conscientious and dependable person.

An intelligent, articulate man who loved his family, Mr. Bordley prided himself on his cooking ability. He always kept an orderly house and an immaculate appearance. Those who knew him remember him for his love of hats, his passion for cooking, his dry sense of humor and his obsession with California Raisin figurines.

Mr. Bordley, in later years, joined Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin sisters, Dorothy and Doris Bordley; and a brother, Paul Bordley.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan David and Leia Bordley; a grandson, Roman Bordley; a sister, Barbara Murphy; and a brother and sister-in-law, James and Eleanor Bordley.

He also is survived by his ex-wife and a loving and devoted friend for many years, Nancy Bordley; an uncle, Donald Williams; three aunts, Elizabeth Gowens, Thelma Durant and Barnita Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Arrangements are by Minus Funeral Home, Dover.

Danielle M. Brodeur

Services for Danielle M. Brodeur, 17, of Camden-Wyoming will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier. Danielle died Saturday, June 14, 2003, near Wyoming.

Danielle was born Nov. 16, 1985, in Dover, daughter of Jeffrey and Ronda Ratzlaff Brodeur.

She was a student at Delaware Technical School, working toward her GED, a fact of which she was quite proud.

Danielle was free-spirited, had many interests and enjoyed “hanging” with her friends. She loved her family and her two dogs, Pete and Daisey.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard Sr. and Eleanor Brodeur; a step-grandfather, Nicholas DiSalvo Sr.; and an uncle, Steven Brodeur.

She is survived by her father and stepmother, Jeffrey S. and Victoria Brodeur of Dublin, Va.; her mother and stepfather, Ronda L. Ratzlaff and Nicholas DiSalvo Jr. of Camden-Wyoming; her grandparents, Everett E. Sr. and Mary L. Ratzlaff of Smyrna; her step-grandmother, Theresa DiSalvo of Dover; and her step-grandparents, Max and Laura Lewis of Dover.

She also is survived by two brothers, Brandon M. DiSalvo of Camden-Wyoming and Thomas S. Brodeur of Dublin; four sisters, Pamela S. Brodeur of Wyoming and April, Amber and Laura L. Brodeur, all of Dublin; her aunts and uncles, Kenneth and Robin Pressley and Paul Harmon, all of Dover, Everett E. Ratzlaff Jr. of Clayton, Donna and Thomas Lovelace of Orange Park, Fla., Warren Brodeur of Atlanta, Keith Brodeur of Florida, Richard G. Brodeur Jr. of Newark and Lance Brodeur, Craig Brodeur, Antoinette DiSalvo and Joseph DiSalvo, all of Dover; and numerous cousins.

Flowers are welcome, and memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 1901 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

William ‘Cecil’ Clark

Services for William “Cecil” Clark, 55, of Dover were held Saturday, June 14, in Second Baptist Church, Dover. Mr. Clark died of natural causes Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in his home.

Mr. Clark was born Nov. 29, 1947, in Dover, son of Helen Mosley and the late George White.

He spent most of his formative years in Dover, where he attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and William Henry High School.

He worked at Nichols Department Store, as well as several other businesses in Dover.

Mr. Clark enjoyed the company of the children in his apartment complex, and they loved him.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Clark.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Cynthia Carroll-Clark; and seven children, Kevin Clark of Virginia, Tammy Clark of Dover, Crystal R. Trotman of Fort Washington, Md., Dana L. Trotman of Milford, and William C. Lee, Warren C. Lee and Piccola Lee, all of Wisconsin.

He also is survived by two brothers and their wives, Charles and Sybil Clark of Dover and James and Dolly Clark of Magnolia; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Edna and James Brinkley, Bernetta and Randy Jackson and Linda White, all of Dover and Nancy and Ollie J. Smith of Hartford, Conn.; a host of devoted friends including Cliff Franklin, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Preston, Larry Woodall, Gary Clark and Rico; seven grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.

Burial was in Whatcoat Cemetery, Dover.

Jean H. Cranston

Services for Jean H. Cranston, 85, of Dover, formerly of Seaford, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 202 North St., Seaford. Mrs. Cranston died Friday, June 13, 2003, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford.

Mrs. Cranston grew up in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1935, then from the University of Delaware in 1939.

She taught home economics in Woodstown, N.J., El Paso, Texas, Greenwood and Seaford, and then worked as a Kent County home economist with the Cooperative Extension of the University of Delaware from 1967 until her retirement in 1982.

Mrs. Cranston had lived in Dover for the past 32 years, attending Christ Episcopal Church where she was a member of the altar guild, was on the Board of Heritage Trail Inc. and served as a guide for the group. She was a former member of Soroptimist International of Dover, and volunteered with “Adopt a Family” at Christmas. She also was a member of the American Association of University Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Cranston, in 1973; and a son, George F. Cranston, in 1966.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, C. Edward Jr. and Donna Cranston, and John A. and Dorothy Cranston, all of Seaford, and Frank W. and Charlotte Cranston of Dover; three grandchildren, Lindsey J. Cranston of Greenville, N.C., and J. Alan Cranston Jr. and George F. Cranston, both of Seaford; and a great-grandson, Isaiah Lowe of Laurel.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 202 North St., Seaford, DE 19973; or to Christ Episcopal Church, State and Water streets, Dover, DE 19901.

Arrangements by the Cranston Funeral Home, Seaford.

Burial will be in St. Luke’s Church Cemetery.

Frank A. Dardanelli

Services for Frank A. Dardanelli, 80, of Dover were held Friday, June 13, in the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, Dover. Mr. Dardanelli died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Mr. Dardanelli was born in New York, son of the late Girolomo and Vincenza Dardanelli.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who had served in the Pacific and European theaters, taking part in the Normandy invasion.

He had worked as a chemist for many years with the Standard-Tech Co. in Staten Island, N.Y., and later with Reichhold Chemical, which caused his move to Dover in 1976. He retired from Reichhold Chemical in 1988.

Mr. Dardanelli was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover; the Knights of Columbus Council 4182, where he had served as a third-degree member, and of BPO Elks Lodge 1903, Dover. He also was a past longtime member of the American Legion Post of Staten Island, and a member of the Holy Name Society while living in Staten Island.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose J. Casciano Dardanelli of Dover; six nieces and nephews; a grandniece; and five grandnephews.

Entombment was in the mausoleum in the Ascension Cemetery, Monsey, N.Y.
