Services for William Edward Jones Jr., 46, of Dover were held Monday, April 12, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, Dover. Mr. Jones died Wednesday, April 7, 2004.
Mr. Jones was born March 22, 1958, in York, Pa., son of Edith Jones of Felton and the late William Edward Jones Sr.
He worked as a car detailer before retiring in 1999.
Mr. Jones loved to race miniature cars.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three children, Christopher William Jones, Kari Jones and Morgan Jones, all of Maryland; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Rodger Hurd; and a loving girlfriend, Maryann Ryan of Frederica.
Graveside services for Nancy L. Morton, 77, of Dover were held Monday, April 12, at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. Mrs. Morton died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at the Betty Jane and Creston G. Tate Foundation Chesapeake Hospice House in Linthicum, Md., following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Morton was born July 3, 1926, in Dover, daughter of the late Nelson M. and Blanch Webb Staats. She grew up in Smyrna.
She was employed at Dover Air Force Base as an administrative assistant until her retirement in 1990.
Mrs. Morton was a Past Worthy Matron of Victory Chapter 15, Order of the Eastern Star, and was active in the Bears Lady Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Morton, in 1968.
She is survived by a son, Sandy Morton and his wife Theresa Shahan of Lothian, Md.; two grandsons, Scott Morton of Newark and Steven Morton of Bel Air, Md.; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Morton of Newark and Zachary Morton of Bel Air.

Mary Marie Dill Pearson
Services for Mary Marie Dill Pearson, 84, of Felton were held Tuesday, April 13, at Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington. Mrs. Pearson died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Courtland Manor Nursing Home, Dover.
Mrs. Pearson was born Dec. 30, 1919, son of the late Noble and Sadie Allen Dill.
She worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, most recently at Playtex of Dover. She also was an Avon representative for more than 44 years. She enjoyed meeting with her customers and making new friends.
One of her most favorite activities was dancing. She took great pride in raising her family and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Pearson belonged to the Harrington Moose Lodge 534.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ervin, Alex and Raymond Dill; a sister, Madolyn Weeks; and a daughter, Wanda Marie Kenton.
She is survived by two sons, a daughter-in-law and the companion of one, Roy R. and Mika Kenton, and William L. Pearson and Nanette Gustafson; and two daughters and their husbands, Sylvia Jean and Lonnie McAdams, and Charlotte and Rusty Peabody.
Mrs. Pearson also is survived by 12 grandchildren, Carl Lee Wolfe, Shannon Smith, David McAdams, Leslie Kesler, Stephanie Engels, Cindi Ramsey, Billie Jo Stapleford, Becky Hutson, Roy Howard, Jessi Kemp, Jenna Kenton and Aaron Kenton; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Marion “Buddy” Dill; and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia H. Pfenninger, 82, of Dover died Monday, April 5, 2004, at her home.
In addition to her parents, John and Ella Whittaker Hayes, she was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1967.
She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Carol P. and Paul A. Taylor of Dover; two grandsons, John C. Taylor and Paul A. Taylor Jr., both of Dover; and three sisters, Lena Dickinson and Sarah McComsey of Sumter, S.C., and Wilma Henley of Jacksonville, Fla.
Burial was held privately in Lancaster, Pa.
George J. Shinn Jr.
Memorial services for George J. Shinn Jr., 54, of Felton were held Tuesday, April 13, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. Mr. Shinn died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Shinn was born May 24, 1949, in Mount Holly, N.J., son of the late George and Sarah Baker Shinn.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam War.
He was employed as a mail director for D&B Printing Services Inc. of Bear.
Mr. Shinn loved his work and was very dedicated to his job. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends and will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Betty Shinn; two daughters, Dawn Minor and her husband Dave of Hartly, and Tammy Shinn-Ventura and her husband Jamie of Gloucester City, N.J.; four sisters, Georgia Kay of Moorestown, N.J., Gloria Hiittner of Southampton, N.J., Sarah Jane Bean and Joyce Stiehl, both of Moorestown; a grandson, Joshua Ventura; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Ginny.

Timothy Scott Sweetman
Services for Timothy Scott Sweetman, 39, of Viola, formerly of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, Minquadale, New Castle, where friends may call one hour earlier. Mr. Sweetman died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore after a long illness.
Mr. Sweetman was born Feb. 12, 1965, in Wilmington, son of John D. III and Carol J. Sweetman, now of Townsend.
He was a graduate of Christiana High School, Newark, and was employed as a kitchen manager with the Moose Club in Camden-Wyoming for four years and with the former Eating Post in Bear for 16 years.
Mr. Sweetman enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. An avid history buff, he also collected antiques. He was very much loved by his family and will be remembered as a man with an adventurous, free spirit who looked forward to new challenges and experiences.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, John D. Sweetman IV and Jay Sweetman, both of Townsend; his fiancée, Teresa Lewis of Viola; his maternal grandmother, Alice VanDyke of Smyrna; his paternal grandparents, Zella and Frank Smith of Little Creek; his paternal great-grandmother, Frances Sweetman of Newark; and several nieces.
Arrangements were by Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes and Crematory, New Castle.
Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
Virginia Torres
Services for Virginia Torres, 71, of Wyoming were held Saturday, April 10, at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. Mrs. Torres died after a long illness Sunday, April 4, 2004, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Torres was born Jan. 6, 1933, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Vincent and Theresa Gizzi Lacer.
She worked as a beautician/cosmetologist early in life. Most recently, she enjoyed helping with the transportation for Care-A-Lot Daycare, where she was affectionately known as everyone’s “Mom-mom.”
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed country and western music and dancing, and was a mall walker. She also was an avid animal lover.
Mrs. Torres was a member of the Camden-Wyoming Women of the Moose and the Modern Maturity Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Vincent Torres Jr., May 16, 2003; and a son, Frank A. Torres.
She is survived by a son, Rick Torres Sr. of Felton; two daughters, Frances Aviles of Wyoming and Theresa Warrington of Marydel; two brothers, Richard Lacer and Vincent Lacer, both of Vineland, N.J.; and two sisters and their husbands, Rose and Joe Cataldi of Camden and Dolly and George Hibner of Alexandria, Va.
Mrs. Torres also is survived by six grandchildren, Rick Torres Jr. of Dover, Jeffrey Torres of Felton, Michelle Torres of Dover, Denise Warrington Moen of Marydel and Vincent Warrington and Albert Aviles Jr., both of Wyoming; two step-grandchildren, Jesus Aviles of Virginia and Yahira Aviles of Puerto Rico; five great-grandchildren, Jenna Warrington, Kellyanne Torres, Alexa Torres, Jordan Christine Moen, Skylar Marie Moen and Zane Wallace; a nephew, Frank Torres Jr. of Denver; a special nephew, Gary Doughten of Jacksonville, Fla.; a very dear cousin, Celia Perez of California; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private memorial services were held recently for Esther Watts, 76, of Hartly. Mrs. Watts died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Ruxton Nursing Home, Denton, Md.
Mrs. Watts was born April 6, 1927, in Germany, daughter of the late Albert and Lina Maier Kiefer.
She came to the United States after World War II and lived in New York City, where she worked as a bookkeeper. In 1970, she married Robert M. Watts and moved to Delaware.
Mrs. Watts enjoyed her flower garden, cooking, canning and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away Nov. 29, 2003.
She is survived by three children and their respective spouses, Robert and Carol Bednarz of Georgia, James and Stella Bednarz of New York and Diane and Dan Linder of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Jesse Bednarz and Alex Linder; and three stepchildren, Richard Watts, Lynn Frankton and Janice Legates and their families.

Daniel P. Winston
Funeral services have been held in Savannah, Ga. for Daniel P. Winston of Dover, formerly of Wiedman, Mich.. Mr. Winston died Friday, April 2, 2004, at the home of his daughter in Dover.
Mr. Winston was born in Ivy, Va., son of the late Charles and Pocahontas Kyles Winston.
He was a graduate of Savannah State College in Georgia and of John Marshall Law School, and attended the University of Chicago.
Mr. Winston was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a scholar, lawyer, world traveler, free sprit, history buff, teacher, and a friend to all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Williams Winston; three sisters; and two brothers,
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gertrude and Isaac Jackson (his caretaker) of Dover; and a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Eric and Karen Townsend Winston of Xenia, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Kathleen Ruffin, and her husband, Dr. David Ruffin, of Silver Spring, Md., Anthony Jackson of Dover, Jackquelynne Jackson of Tallahassee, Fla., and Megan Winston and Anna Winston, both of Xenia.
He also is survived by four great-grandchildren, Isiah Alston of Alexandria, Va., Ciquoiah Broxton of Fort Pierce, Fla., David Ruffin Jr. of Silver Spring and Adriana Winston-Weston of Xenia; a host of nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins and friends.
Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in Savannah.

Gregory ‘Greg’ Wolski
Services for Gregory “Greg” Wolski, 52, of Dover were held Saturday, April 10, at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, Dover. Mr. Wolski passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Wolski was born in Chester, Pa., son of Harry and Tessie Wolski of Claymont.
He owned and operated several businesses in Dover and had served as a mortgage broker for the past two years.
He enjoyed going to his grandson Little John’s “Bud” baseball games and the time spent with grandson Christopher and his activities on the computer.
Mr. Wolski was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather; he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey D. Wolski, in 1987.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Darlene Eastburn Wolski of Dover; a devoted son and daughter-in-law, John and Angel Jackson of Hartly; and two sisters and their husbands, Debra and Joseph O’Brien of Newport News, Va., and Tina and Victor Petrowsky of Wilmington.
He also is survived by two brothers, Michael and Christopher, who was his best friend and confidante, both of Claymont; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation and burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
