Thelma Moffett Vansant, 93
CHESTERTOWN - Thelma Moffett Vansant of Chestertown died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Chestertown. She was 93.
Mrs. Vansant was the daughter of the late W. Simon and Annie Minner Moffett, who had lived in Rock Hall.
She graduated from Rock Hall High School in 1926 and from Maryland State Normal School in 1928, then attended Washington College, and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1964.
She began her teaching career in the one-room school at Cliffs City and taught elementary and middle school children in Kent County for more than 40 years.
Mrs. Vansant was actively involved in professional, community and church organizations. She served in all offices, including president, and as the Northeast Area delegate, for the Kent County Teachers Association. She was a member of the Kent County, National and Maryland Retired Teachers Associations. She was on the Maryland Retired Teachers Association Board of Directors, was its Northeastern regional coordinator (five counties) and served on its Joint Regional Legislative Committee.
She was a past member of the administrative board and a member of the altar guild of Christ United Methodist Church in Chestertown, where she was the first woman to serve as a trustee. She served on the boards of directors for the Eastern Shore Health Planning Council, Kent County Health Planning Committee, Camp Fairlee Manor Advisory Committee, Chester Sassafras Foundation, Historical Society of Kent County, Women's League of Washington College and the Capt. Lambert Wicks Foundation.
She also had been a member of the Kent County Council of Social Agencies, Children's Council of Kent County, Board of Elections of Chestertown, Maryland is Beautiful Committee, Upper Shore Mental Health Auxiliary, Kent County Mental Health, Kent Conservation, Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, Friends of Angels Haven, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Worton Homemakers and Friends of Kent County Public Library. She was honored as Kent County's most beautiful person for the "Maryland, You Are Beautiful" program in 1987-1988.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Burton Vansant, in 1998.
She is survived by a daughter, Anne Burton Vansant; a brother, Maxwell Moffett; a sister, Isabel Gorham; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Christ United Methodist Church on High Street in Chestertown.
Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

John C. 'Jack' Williamson, 89
LEWES - John C. "Jack" Williamson of Lewes died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in the presence of his family in Lewes. He was 89.
Mr. Williamson was born March 25, 1913, in Rock Island, Ill.
He served as an air intelligence officer in the Southwest Pacific in World War II. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1973 at the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve.
He was the chief lobbyist in Washington, D.C., for the National Association of Realtors from 1952 to 1972. He practiced law in Washington and served as executive vice president of the Mortgage Insurance Companies of America.
After retirement, Mr. Williamson lived in South Bethany, where he was active in town government, serving as a member of the Town Council, as mayor and as member and chairman of the Board of Adjustment. He obtained a commercial captain's license from the U.S. Coast Guard at age 75 and captained his sport-fishing boat, Sandy Carol, for many years. He moved to Lewes in 1996. He is remembered by friends and family for his humor, generosity, compassion and love of life.
He is survived by his wife, Bishop; sons Van and Jeff; daughters-in-law Alexis and Mayumi; and granddaughter Ann Bishop.
Services and burial will be private.

Julie Haskins Bailey, 60
LEWES - Julie Haskins Bailey of Lewes died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 60.
Mrs. Bailey had been employed over the years with the Lewes Convalescent Center; the Beebe Medical Center, Lewes; and the Beebe Home Health Care Program, retiring after 20 years of nursing service.
She was an artist in watercolors, oils and pastels. She enjoyed singing at Gull House, Rehoboth Beach; loved to sail; and was devoted to her sons.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer B. Connaway, in 1976; and her mother, Elizabeth Haskins, in 1994.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony William Bailey of Lewes; her father, Donald Haskins of Fairhope, Ala.; three sons, Elberon Tyndal Connaway III of Burlington, Vt., and Christopher B. Connaway and Shawn M. Connaway, both of Wilmington, N.C.; three grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Connaway, Jacob Finn Connaway and Elberon Tyndall Connaway IV; and three brothers, Alan, David and John Haskins, all of New York.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Bethel Methodist Cemetery.

Pastor Lillian Blake-Bartley, 69
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Pastor Lillian Blake-Bartley of Chestertown died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 69.
Pastor Blake-Bartley had been pastoring for 28 years and evangelizing for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her husband, Elder Jerry Bartley; two sisters, Ida Burke and Lucy Daniels, both of Chestertown; a very special nephew, Elder Ronald "Doc" Rochester; her mother-in-law, Jerdine Frazier; a special man she loved like a father, Percy Johnson of Chestertown; 10 brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law and two grandmothers-in-law, all of Savannah, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, friends and her church family of United Church of Deliverance, Chestertown.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at United Church of Deliverance, 328 Cannon St., Chestertown.
Services will be noon Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 308 High St., Chestertown.
Burial will be in Janes Church Cemetery, Chestertown.

Frances Marie Simpson Burn, 81
MILFORD - Frances Marie Simpson Burn of Milford died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 81.
Mrs. Burn was born in Milford, daughter of the late Wilbur S. and Jennie T. (Trice) Simpson.
She graduated from Milford High School in 1939.
Mrs. Burn worked as an executive secretary for the Fish Products Co., Lewes, for 30 years, retiring in 1975, when the company was sold.
She enjoyed spending time with her family in her home in Milford, as well as in her cottage in Slaughter Beach. She also was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and needlework.
Mrs. Burn was a life member of First Presbyterian Church of Milford, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur S. Simpson Jr., in 1986.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Thomas W. Burn; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. and Carol Burn of Rehoboth Beach; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann B. and Joseph R. Rogers of Milford; two sisters, Virginia S. Kennedy of Lewes and Kay Watson of Milford; four grandsons, Thomas W. Burn III, John Cannon, Justin Cannon and Stephen Cannon; two granddaughters, Kristine B. Dervaes and Jessica R. Rogers; three nieces; and a nephew.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Mary Lee Cartwright, 76
GOLDSBORO, Md. - Mary Lee Cartwright of Goldsboro died of natural causes Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in her home. She was 76.
Ms. Cartwright was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Goldsboro, daughter of George Leroy Cartwright of Goldsboro and the late Ruth (Shockley) Cartwright. She was a lifetime resident of Goldsboro.
She graduated from Greensboro High School and from Beacom College, Wilmington, Del.
Ms. Cartwright worked for the state of Maryland's Department of Social Services as a secretary, retiring after 30 years of service.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home PA, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery.
Brian W. Cash, 32
FELTON - Brian W. Cash of Felton died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in his parents' home. He was 32.
Mr. Cash was born in Duluth, Minn., son of Wayne Cash and Janet Belcher Cash of Felton.
He was employed for the past two pears by the town of Milton's Maintenance Department.
He loved his children. He also enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors, whether spending time at the beach or taking walks in the early morning. He enjoyed swimming and working on cars.
Mr. Cash was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Dover.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Faith Carey Cash of Milton; two children, Ethan N. Cash and Emily N. Cash, both of Milton; a sister, Melinda Cash Walker; two nephews, Andrew Walker and Aaron Walker, both of Dover; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Salvation services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Short Funeral Services, Federal Street, Milton.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton

Elizabeth Bergstrom, 93
OCEAN VIEW - Elizabeth Bergstrom of Ocean View died Thursday, April 19, 2001, in her home. She was 93.
Mrs. Bergstrom was born in Wilmington.
She was a retired beautician who owned and operated Mar-Bet Beauty Shop in the Miller Road Shopping Center, Wilmington.
Mrs. Bergstrom was a member of the Ocean View Church Of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold G. Bergstrom, in 1985.
She is survived by her son, Robert D. Bergstrom and his wife, Mary, of Ocean View; three grandchildren, Eric H. Bergstrom, Scott D. Bergstrom and Amy L. Ormord and her husband, Robert; and a great-grandchild, Tyler.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue, Ocean View, where friends may two hours prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be in the Ocean View Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Adam E. Cummings, newborn
DOVER - Adam E. Cummings of Dover died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was a newborn.
Adam was born April 16, 2001, in Newark, son of Donald and Teresa (Spencer) Cummings.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Ryan Eugene Quinter and Tim Cummings, both of Dover; his maternal grandmother, Dot Roger of Hartly; his maternal step-grandfather, Jim Roger of Hartly; and his paternal grandfather, Alexander Cummings of Maine.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Timothy P. Dunnigan Sr., 48
DENTON, Md. - Timothy P. Dunnigan Sr. of Denton died of cancer Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore. He was 48.
Mr. Dunnigan was born in Baltimore, son of Marie Balsamo Dunnigan of Abbington, and the late James Dunnigan.
He was a telemetry technician at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, for the past six years.
In 1990, he became a member of the Denton Volunteer Fire Co. and in 1991 joined the Denton Ambulance Squad, where he was a paramedic with ALS for Caroline County. He also was a certified phlebotomist.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, JoAnne Dunnigan of Denton; a son. Timothy P. Dunnigan Jr.; two daughters, Jenna Hastings of Baltimore and Heather Rack of Glen Burnie; a grandson; and his dog, Buster.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home, P.A., Denton, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Friends also may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Connelly Funeral Home, 7110 Sollers Point Road, Baltimore.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Rita Roman Catholic Church, Baltimore.

Kevin T. Evans, 45
FRANKFORD - Kevin T. Evans of Frankford died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in his home. He was 45.
Mr. Evans was born in Camden, N.J.
He attended East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C.
He was a disc jockey and announcer for "the Wave" 92.1 radio station, Salisbury, Md., and was known locally as "Kevin Ocean."
He is survived by his wife, Toni Evans; a son, Nicholas K. of Frankford; four daughters, Candice A., Alison L. and Erica E., all of Frankford, and Stephanie J. Evans Goode of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Tyler Bunting and Madeline Goode; his mother and stepfather, Charlene Townsend Hancock and Willis T. Hancock of Millsboro; and his stepmother, Eva P. Evans of Salisbury.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue, Ocean View.

Elizabeth Barrows Off
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Elizabeth Barrows Off of Chestertown died Tuesday, April 17, 2001.
Mrs. Off was born in Bryn Mawr, Pa., in 1920, daughter of Richard Lee Barrows and Gertrude Buffum Barrows.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 1992 by her husband, Walter F. Off Jr., whom she married June 19, 1942; a brother, Richard Lee Barrows Jr.; and a sister, Mary Lee Fultz.
Mrs. Off graduated from Westtown (Pa.) School and Harcum Junior College, Bryn Mawr.
She was an avid gardener and participated in many gardening activities including the Philadelphia Garden Show during the years she lived in Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Off also was an active volunteer at Bryn Mawr Hospital, and started the volunteer program at. Kent County Hospital upon taking up residency in Chestertown.
She is survived by two daughters, Barrie Bergener of Carbondale, Colo., and Carolina Coffay of Georgetown; and two grandsons, Jake Bergener of Denver and Michael Bergener of Carbondale.
A memorial service will be early in May at Heron Point, Chestertown.

Stonewall Rankin Jr., 79
MILLSBORO - Stonewall Rankin Jr. of Millsboro, formerly of Linwood, Pa., died Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. He was 79.
Mr. Rankin was born in Lexington, Ky., son of the late Stonewall Rankin Sr. and Ollie M. Biddle Rankin.
During World War II, he served with the 141st infantry service company of the 36th infantry division, in the U.S. Army.
He worked for the Scott Paper Co., Chester, Pa., retiring in 1982 after 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Blanche Smoot Rankin; a daughter, Ila Jean Rankin Grissom of Kennett Square, Pa.; a brother, Clarence Rankin of Lexington; eight sisters, Mildred Lansaw, Judy Morton, Mary Brown, Evelyn Hodges and Addie Mae Wiseman, all of Lexington, Virginia Blanton of Winchester, Ky., Dorothy Hall of Versalles, Ky., and Lillie Judy of Hudson, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Brieann Grissom of Kennett Square.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the ceremony.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriot's Way, Millsboro.
Jean Ann Trabaudo, 60
SMYRNA - Jean Ann Trabaudo of Smyrna died Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. She was 60.
Mrs. Trabaudo was born Oct. 6, 1940, in Camp Hill, Pa., daughter of the late John and Illa Campbell Rowe.
She was the library director for St. Andrews School, Middletown, for the last several years.
Mrs. Trabaudo enjoyed painting, reading and making teddy bears and cross stitch. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, James J. Trabaudo Sr.; three sons, John J. Trabaudo of Smyrna, James J. "Macky" Trabaudo Jr. of Clayton and Jeffrey S. Trabaudo of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Michele A. Brewer of West Chester, Pa.; a sister, Sharon Dillman of Chesapeake, Md.; and five grandchildren, Annalisa and Reece S. Trabaudo, both of Smyrna, Jamie L. and Zachary S. Trabaudo, both of Clayton, and Knute T. Brewer of West Chester.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Raymond C. 'Ray' White, 82
LONG NECK - Raymond C. "Ray" White of Long Neck, and formerly of Camp Hill, Pa., died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. He was 82.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. May 6 at East Gate Presbyterian Church, Long Neck Road, Millsboro.
Edward A. Daube, 74
DOVER - Edward A. Daube of Dover died Friday, April 20, 2001, in Washington Center, Washington, D.C. He was 74.
Mr. Daube was born in Tappan, N.Y., the son of the late Edward and Ruth Daube.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving until 1947. He was also in the reserves until 1949. He was assigned to the 72nd Constabulary.
Mr. Daube was an accountant for General Foods Corp. for 39 years, retiring in 1986. After his retirement he did consulting work for General Foods.
His interests included vegetable and flower gardening, woodcarving and photography. He loved spending time at his cottage at Nags Head, N.C., but most of all he loved his grandchildren.
Mr. Daube was a member of American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2 in Dover. He also did volunteer work with the Boy Scouts as an assistant scoutmaster and the Junior Achievement Program, which he served as an advisor.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Doris Lennon Daube; a son and his wife, Pete and Sharon Daube of Dover; a daughter, Diane Carney of Dover; a brother, Arthur Daube of Danbury, Conn.; a sister, Ruth Barnes of Lebanon, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Christopher Daube, Brian Daube and Colleen Carney, all of Dover.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, South 1145 E. Lebanon Road in Dover.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Scott Fitzgerald, 52
DOVER - Scott Fitzgerald of Dover died of a heart attack Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in his home. He was 52.
Mr. Fitzgerald was born July 11, 1948, in Boston, the son of Jean Wentzel Fitzgerald of Dover, and the late John Fitzgerald.
He graduated from Portage Northen High School in Portage, Mich., and went on to Wayne State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology. He then joined VISTA, and while rendering his services in New York City he attended Bank Street School of Education. He earned his master's degree in special education, with an emphasis on early childhood development.
He lived in Calcutta, India, New Hampshire, Michigan, New York and Vermont prior to moving to Delaware in 1990.
For the last 10 years he served with Chimes Metrol Delaware as a job coach in the training and placement of partially disabled adults in Newark, Dover and Millsboro.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Jay Sean Fitzgerald of Dover; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Kenneth Sellers of Harrington; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Mark and Maureen Fitzgerald of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews in Delaware and Michigan.
In accordance with Mr. Fitzgerald's wishes, cremation will take place, followed by a Celebration Of Life, which will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, in his home, 15 Blackheath Court, Dover.
The family suggests contributions in his memory be made to The Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center, 630 W. Division St., Dover, DE.
