Services for Edna Louise Courtney, 75, of Camden will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 3, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Route 13, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier. Mrs. Courtney, formerly of Bethel, where she lived on her grandfather’s farm, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.
Mrs. Courtney was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., daughter of the late Leroy and Emma Passwaters.
She graduated from the Long Island College School of Nursing in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she earned her registered nursing degree in 1950.
Mrs. Courtney worked as a nurse for almost 40 years in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Virginia and the Panama Canal Zone, during college training and as she moved with her husband during his military duty station transfers.
She loved going to dinners with her friends at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3238 in Camden.
Mrs. Courtney was a member of the Kent County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the ASPCA, the Humane Society of the United States, the Wildlife Federation, the Helping Hands Quilt Guild, the Piecemakers Quilt Club, the Central Delaware Civil War Roundtable, the Long Island College School of Nursing Alumni Association and the Fathers’ Rights Association of New York. She also was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Dover.
Mrs. Courtney was active on various committees for the town of Camden, including the elections committee, on which she helped revise the town’s election laws and create its first absentee ballot and voter registration systems. She also was a firm fixture at town meetings.
At Monday night’s monthly Camden Town Council meeting, council proclaimed Wednesday, Nov. 3 “Edna Courtney Day,” to honor her contributions to the community.
“We’re going to fly the flags at half-mast in recognition of all she’s done for the town,” said John Hart, chair of the Camden Planning Commission, speaking shortly after returning home from the meeting.
A friend and former Tamarac neighbor of Mrs. Courtney, Mr. Hart recalled, “She was one of the faithful who attended every meeting, unless she had a good reason not to be there. She had the town at heart. She really loved the town of Camden …. We’re going to miss her.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted stepfather, Nicholas Campanile.
Mrs. Courtney is survived by her husband of 54 years, George E. Courtney Jr.; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail Courtney and Joseph Manning of Powder Spring, Ga.; and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert L. and Carolyn Courtney of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and George E. Courtney III of Albany, N.Y.
She also is survived by eight grandchildren, Courtney Manning and Conor Manning of Powder Spring, Ga., and Robbie Courtney, Ryan Courtney, Devin Courtney and Cara Courtney of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Justin Courtney and Brandon Courtney of Albany, N.Y.; and her loving dogs, Holly and Julie.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.

Shirley Catherine Crowe
Funeral services for Shirley Catherine Crow, 69, of Dover were held Friday, Oct. 29, at the Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover. Mrs. Crowe died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mrs. Crowe was born Aug. 8, 1935, in Ferrisburg, Vt., daughter of the late Earnest and Mabel Ryan Larrow.
She worked for 15 years as a waitress for Kirby & Holloway’s Restaurant and 10 years for the Blue Coat Pancake House.
Mrs. Crowe enjoyed dancing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Richard Larrow; and a sister, Jean Tubbs.
Mrs. Crow is survived by two sons and their wives, John Raymond and Deborah Mascarenas of Mineville N.Y., and Travis Wallace and Stephanie Crowe of Camden; and four daughters and two sons-in-law, Deborah Rose and Ned Phinney of Mariah, N.Y., Colleen Marie and Barry Denham of Dover, Donna Ann Mascarenas of Dover and Michele Lea Crowe of Dover.
She also is survived by two brothers, Jack Larrow of Colorado and Billy Larrow of Mineville, N.Y.; three sisters, Marie Chicoine, Margaret Ward and Patsy Chambers, all of Burlington, Vt.; a special nephew, Tim Ward of Dover; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Interment was in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Charles Wayne Dill Sr.
Funeral services for Charles Wayne Dill Sr., 62, of Wyoming were held Monday, Nov. 1, at the Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. Mr. Dill died peacefully Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at home, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Dill was born June 15, 1942, in Wyoming, son of the late Alexander and Mary Ethel Larrimore Dill.
Mr. Dill was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School, class of 1960. He served proudly in the National Guard for six years.
Mr. Dill worked for the Delaware Department of Transportation as assistant supervisor of the Cheswold yard, retiring after 29 years.
He was a member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge, American Quarter Horse Association and the U.S. Trotter Association. He loved to play eight ball pool with Breakers Owl Nest, Felton and nine-ball pool with the Nine Ball Stoners at Stones Hotel, Harrington.
He will be fondly remembered as the peanut man at Dill’s Auction.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Dill was preceded in death by a brother, J. Paul Dill, in 1977.
He is survived by five sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles Wayne Dill Jr. of Houston, David Warren Sr. and Britainie Dill of Wyoming, Robert John and Catherine Dill of Wyoming, Alexander Dill and his fiancé Jennifer Lloyd of Wyoming and Jamie S. Dill of Dover.
He also is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, A. Eugene and Jennifer Dill of Wyoming; a sister, Wanda Hutson of Wyoming; seven grandchildren Patricia Dill of Houston, Tristan Dill of Wyoming, Renee Dill of Wyoming, Erica M. Dill of Wyoming, Taylor P. Dill of Dover, Gabriel K. Dill of Wyoming and David W. Dill of Wyoming; two step grandchildren, Ashley Dill and Robert Dill, both of Milford; his companion, Beth Lyle; and his special caregiver Bonnie Adgar.
Ruth E. Henry, 84, of Dover died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
Mrs. Henry was born May 20, 1920, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Gillan Jenkins.
She was a homemaker and had worked in the Courthouse Registration Office in Bridgeton, N.J., for seven years. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and was a volunteer for the Red Cross in Vineland, N.J.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Norman Henry Jr.
Mrs. Henry is survived by her husband, Norman Henry; a son, Bruce Henry of Hollywood, Fla.; two daughters, Delma Lister of San Diego and Joyce Henry of Dover; three grandchildren, Katie Henry, Crissy Henry and Bruce Henry Jr.; and a great-grandchild, McKenzie Henry.
Arrangements were by Berry-Short Funeral Homes, Milford.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Eileen ‘Kaye’ Martin
Funeral services for Eileen “Kaye” Martin, 57, of Millsboro, formerly of Dover, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Mrs. Martin died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in Christiana Care, Newark.
Mrs. Martin was born Jan. 16, 1947, in Dover, daughter of Marie Graham Vincent, now of Wyoming, and the late Johnny Vincent.
She was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School and later became manager of the Delaware Federal Credit Union’s Georgetown Branch. Mrs. Martin enjoyed gardening and entertaining friends.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband, Jeff L. Martin; a daughter, Holly L. Diaz; a granddaughter, Amanda Kaye Diaz; a brother and sister-in-law, John E. and Pat Vincent of Wyoming; and countless devoted friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Amanda Diaz Educational Trust, 526 Knoll Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
Irene Elizabeth Stevens McLeish
Funeral services for Irene Elizabeth Stevens McLeish, 70, of Dover were held Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Dover. Mrs. McLeish died Tuesday, Oct. 19, in Christiana Care, Wilmington Hospital, Wilmington.
Mrs. McLeish was born March 5, 1934, in Northampton County, Va., daughter of the late James V. Sample and Catherine L. Giddens.
She worked for many years on the farm and was a faithful homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Carolyn Luvons Stevens and Linda Loretta Stevens; a sister, Juanita M. Giddens; and a brother, Lorenzo Giddens.
Mrs. McLeish is survived by three sons; five daughters; two sons-in-law; two sisters; six brothers; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight sisters-in-law; three aunts; five brothers-in-law; three uncles; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Arrangements were by the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
Interment was in the Gibbs Memorial Gardens, Woodside.
Nora Booth Minnick
Remembrance services for Nora Booth Minnick, 79, of Lewes, formerly of Dover and St. George’s, Bermuda, will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 6, in Barratt’s Chapel near Frederica, where friends may call one hour earlier. Mrs. Minnick died after a long battle with cancer Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in her home with family present.
Mrs. Minnick was born April 17, 1925, in Paget, Bermuda, daughter of the late Samuel J. and Hilda Cornwell Booth.
She worked as a manager at H&E Smith in St. George’s. Earlier, she was employed by Archie Brown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Janet.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Walter E. Minnick of Lewes; a son and his special person, Paul Minnick and Chris Guidone, both of Cherry Hill, N.J.; two daughters and their husbands, Dr. Judy and William Craig of Milford and Mary Jane and Gary Gonzalez of Florida; a brother, Robert A. Booth of St. George’s; and four grandchildren, Kevin Craig, Julie Craig, Michael Barbera and Gena Africano.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice, 201-B W. DuPont Highway, Millsboro, DE 19966.

Alax Douglas ‘Doug’ Morrison Sr.
Funeral services for Alax Douglas “Doug” Morrison Sr., 52, of Severn, Md., were held Friday, Oct. 29, in the New Life Fellowship Baptist Church, Odenton, Md. Mr. Morrison died after a short illness Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Mr. Morrison was born March 30, 1951, in Bartow, Fla., son of Amanda Morrison of Frederica and the late David Morrison Sr.
He attended public schools in Milford and then served for three years as a medic in the U.S. Army.
Following his military career, Mr. Morrison graduated from Delaware State University with a degree in business administration.
He worked as a manager for the Salvation Army in Maryland.
Mr. Morrison was a very outgoing person who loved life. He enjoyed meeting people and loved to play practical jokes and tease. He believed in strong family ties.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Morrison is survived by his loving wife Angela Morrison, whom he married June 8, 1994; two sons, Alax Douglas Morrison Jr. of Easton and Dajuan Morrison of Charlottesville, Va.; and two granddaughters, Olivia Morrison and Dominique Morrison.
He also is survived by three brothers, David Morrison Jr. of Dover, Harry Morrison of Huntsville, Ala., and Russell Morrison of Gahanna, Ohio; six sisters, Eloise Hickerson of Philadelphia, Mary Mills and Louvenia Tatman, both of Dover, Helen Morrison of Bear, Tootsie Drummond of Hopewell, Va., and Bonita Reeves of Newark; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, additional relatives and friends.
Arrangements were by the Howell Funeral Home, Baltimore.
Interment was in the Maryland Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Crownsville.
