Services for Karen Alfreda Scott Hucks, 60, of Wilmington, formerly of Marydel, were held Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover. Ms. Hucks died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md.
Ms. Hucks was born Aug. 31, 1947, in Wilmington, daughter of the late John and Christina Scott.
She attended Lockerman High School, Denton, Md., graduating in 1966.
Ms. Hucks had a disability since childhood, but she was a very independent person. She loved to cook and sing and she loved children. She started a daycare in her home, being a caregiver to her nieces and to many children in her neighborhood.
She grew up in Marydel, Md., attending Ferrell’s United Methodist Church, which later merged with Mt. Zion. She was a former member of the Zion Gospel Singers, Zionettes, Community Choir Ensemble and Voices in Unity Mass Choir. Even though she moved to Wilmington, she would occasionally come home on the weekend to sing with the choir.
When Ms. Hucks moved to Wilmington, she joined Central Baptist Church. Later, she was affiliated with Set Free Righteous Living Ministries. Each Sunday she would travel up and down the highway with her riding partners, cousins Matlene Harding and the Rev. Melissa Bordley.
At Set Free Righteous Living Ministries, she was involved with the Bread of Heaven Food Ministry. She was also affiliated with the Women of Prayer and Power Ministries.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Hucks was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Hucks, who she had married June 16, 1980; and a brother, John Howard Scott.
She is survived by a son, Michael Scott and his friend of Bear; and four brothers and two sisters-in-law, James and Helen of Dover, Thomas of Wilmington, Samuel of Marydel and Matthew and Jean of Marydel.
Ms. Hucks also is survived by five grandchildren, Michael Jr., Dominque, Courtney, Kamron and Kobé; her mother-in-law, Novesta Hucks of New Castle; four brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law; an aunt, Elsie Teat of Capital Nursing Home, Dover; two very close classmates who were like sisters, Janice Price and Dorothy Brice; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.
Rosemary E. Johnson of Dover, formerly of Long Beach, Calif., died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and avid bridge player who enjoyed outings to IHOP, watching “Jeopardy,” basketball and golf on TV, spending time with her dogs, Austin, Fritz, Kaiser and Sasha, as well as visiting with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Roswell Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Shirley J. MacNeill of Camden and Patricia J. Saunders of Indialantic, Fla.; four grandchildren, Julie A. MacNeill of Newark, Jennifer S. Rooney of Leesburg, Va., R. Scott Saunders III of Laguna Beach, Calif., and Matthew K. Saunders of Virginia Beach, Va.; and five great-grandchildren.

James E. Kwasnieski
James E. Kwasnieski Sr., 61, of Bowers Beach, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, in Wilmington Hospital.
Mr. Kwasnieski was born Sept. 23, 1946, in Greenport, N.Y., son of the late Edward and Marian Kwasnieski.
He was a graduate of Middletown High School, where he played football.
Mr. Kwasnieski worked as a car salesman for many years and received a number of awards for his service.
His love of the water prompted him to start a crabbing business in Bowers Beach. He loved the Delaware Bay and often spoke of his passion for it. Mr. Kwasnieski also loved the town of Bowers Beach and its people.
He was a gifted artist and often would draw or paint pictures and greeting cards for family and friends.
Mr. Kwasnieski is survived by a son, James E. Kwasnieski Jr. of Magnolia; a daughter, Karen McTaggart of Dover; a sister, Connie Mattia of Maryland; a brother, Ronald Kwasnieski of Middletown; two half-sisters, Joan Syther of New Milford, Conn., and Doris Syther of Long Island, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

Robert Stanley Lech
Funeral services for Robert Stanley Lech, 64, of Dover, formerly of Quakake, Rush Township, Pa., were held Wednesday, Jan. 16, in Zizelmann-Roche Funeral Home, Tamaqua, Pa. Mr. Lech died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, in his home.
Mr. Lech was born in Barnesville, Pa., son of Joyce L. Fegley Lech of Quakake, and the late Stanley Lech.
He graduated from Mahanoy Area High School, Mahanoy City, Pa., in 1961, and received an associate’s degree from Delaware Technical & Community College. He retired from Kraft Foods, Dover, after 38 years of service.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Amber of Dover and Marie of Reading, Pa.; a son, Brian of Elizabethtown, Pa.; two sisters, Eileen of Quakake, Pa., and Gwen of Philadelphia; and a friend, Helen Young of Harrington.
Interment was in Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown, Pa.

Brian Miller
A celebration of the life of Brian Miller, 40, of Smyrna, was held Monday, Jan. 21, at the Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna. Mr. Miller died after a courageous battle with brain cancer Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends.
Mr. Miller was born May 24, 1967, in Riverhead, N.Y., the son of Rose Wilmire, now of Milford.
He spent most of his childhood years in Camden and graduated from Caesar Rodney High School with the class of 1987.
Mr. Miller was 18 years old when he began his career in the car business, working for several Delaware dealers until he found his home with the C.F. Schwartz dealership. He had last worked at C.F. Schwartz as a new car manager of their Toyota division.
He loved cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed motocross, golfing and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his mother and stepfather, Tom Wilmire, Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kris Miller; and two sons, Matthew Miller and Nicholas Miller.
He also is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Cheryl Miller of Magnolia; his father and mother-in-law, Neal and Terri Carter of Dover; two nieces, Brandie Miller of Camden and Emily Miller of Magnolia; a sister-in-law, Kim Kilby and her husband Steve of Milton; and many other loving family members and supportive friends.

Nicholas James Monahan II
Nicholas James Monahan, 74, of Riverview, Fla., died of cancer Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, in Riverview.
He is survived by his friend, Beverly Perrin of Riverview; two daughters and their husbands, Jane and Franklin Morgan of Hartly and Janet and Steven Gauna of Taylor, Texas; and three sisters and their husbands, Nicholas and Carlea Cahall of Dover, Michael and Glenda Harsey of Marydel and Thomas and Mary Monahan of Lincoln.
He also is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Regina Monahan and Frances and Earl Cain; a brother, Leo Monahan; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Ozzie Mae Parker
Funeral services for Ozzie Mae Parker of Milford were held Monday, Jan. 21, in the Faith, Hope and Love Church, Milford. Mrs. Parker died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at home.
She, along with her husband and children, moved to Delaware in 1972.
Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and a foster grandparent at the Stevenson House for several years before her retirement.
She was known throughout the Christian community as she frequented several ministries from North Carolina to Pennsylvania. She was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist, Miracle Tabernacle of Deliverance, and Faith Hope and Love C/F, where she held the position of the “church mother.”
She had attended New Beginnings Ministry of Greenwood until she became unable to travel.
Mrs. Parker had a way of sharing her life experiences that would always make people laugh. When she had something to share that she was really excited about she would start out by saying “Let me tell y’all one thing.”
She is survived by six daughters, Rosemary Maxberry of Milford, Lewie Green of Dover, Marva Smith of North Carolina, Dorothy Abraham of Milford, Katherine Best of Wilmington and Juanita Taylor of Dover; a son, Algiers Royster of Chester, Pa.; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Clara Ellison.
