Chief Master Sgt. Robert Joseph Edwards, USAF (Ret.)
Funeral services for Robert Joseph Edwards, 78, of Camden, were held Monday, Nov. 19, in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. Mr. Edwards died at home Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007.
Mr. Edwards was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Teague, Texas, the youngest of 10 children born to the late Oscar and Emma Park Edwards.
He enlisted at the age of 17 in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, and served with the Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired as a chief master sergeant after 23 years of service.
Following his military retirement, Mr. Edwards worked as a civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force as an air terminal manager at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam and Dover Air Force Base, retiring in 1985.
While at Dover’s aerial port, he coined the term “Superport,” which since has entered the Air Mobility Command’s lexicon.
Mr. Edwards was a member of many fraternal organizations, including the Camden Veterans of Foreign Wars, Friendship American Legion in Friendship, N.Y., the Disabled American Veterans (serving as a one-time commander of the Dover chapter and as the senior vice commander for the state), the Air Force Association, the Tanker/Airlift Association, Sons of the Republic of Texas, the Military Order of the Cooties, the Smithsonian Institution and the Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover AFB.
Mr. Edwards was a voracious reader and enjoyed traveling, especially on cruise ships, tinkering with his computer and the camaraderie of the many comrades at the Camden VFW and Friendship American Legion posts.
He received many awards and recognition from his co-workers, for which he was most grateful.
Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his nine brothers and sisters, Ervin L., Jack W., W.T., John Earl, Sammy R., Bernice Cavanaugh, Evelyn Estes, Willie Ivy and Doris Threadgill.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Barbara Wilbur Edwards; three stepchildren, Jeannie George and her fiancé, Paul Lande of Camden, Marsha Custer of Dover, and M.J. and Susan Brent of Oakhurst, Calif.; seven step-grandchildren, Monica Lucas and her husband Eric, Jessica Hodges and her husband Jermaine, Lindsay, Ashley and Maddie Brent and Michael and Cody Custer; four step-great-grandchildren, Madison and Meaghan Lucas and Kayla and Keira Hodges; and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Texas and Tennessee who affectionately called him Uncle Bobby or Bobby Joe.
Interment will be Sunday, Nov. 25 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Teague.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to USO Delaware Inc. or the Good Shepherds Fund of the First Sergeants’ Council, Dover Air Force Base, DE 19902.
Carmela N. Evon
A Mass of Christian Burial for Carmela N. Evon, 87, of Camden, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, in the Church of the Holy Cross, 631 S. State St., Dover, where friends may call starting at 9:30 a.m. Mrs. Evon died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mrs. Evon was born June 15, 1920, in Winterbury, Conn., daughter of the late Joseph and Linda Immela Falzone.
She and her husband owned and operated Enterprise Carbide Tool Co., Watertown, Conn., for 20 years.
Mrs. Evon was appointed by the governor of Connecticut in 1979 to serve as a loan adviser for the Small Business Association, and was listed in “Who’s Who of American Women,” in 1981.
She served as a network director for the National Association of Business Executives.
A truly gifted businesswoman, Mrs. Evon remained a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a person who made a difference in the lives of those she touched.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Louis J. Evon, in 1999.
Mrs. Evon is survived by two daughters, Linda J. Evon of Camden and Carol Evon Taylor of Reading, Pa.; two sisters, Pearl Balch and Ida Falzone, both of Watertown; and two grandchildren, Patrick Moriarty of West Chester, Pa., and Alyssa K. Moriarty of Reading.

Mary Foti
Funeral services for Mary Foti, 90, of Dover, were held in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Wheeling, W.Va. Mrs. Foti died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at her daughter's home, with family by her side.
Mrs. Foti was born on Sept. 21, 1917, in Wheeling, W.Va., daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Ritzo LePore.
Before moving to Dover in 2002, she lived in Wheeling where she and her husband raised three daughters and were members of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
She loved to read, enjoyed bingo, bridge and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Foti worked for Wheeling Corrugating Steel Co. in her early years and later worked for and retired from Hecks Inc.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, S. James Foti; three sisters; and four brothers. Mrs. Foti is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Judith and Lou Lothman of Jacksonville, Fla.; Sara “Sally” and Brent Reynolds of Dover; and Mary Jo and Don Ferda of Lima, Ohio; five granddaughters and two sons-in-law, Lisa and Chris Ridgley, Julie and Geoff Rupert, Laura Lothman, Kristin Lothman and Alison Ferda; a grandson, James Ferda; three great-grandchildren, Emma Ridgley, Tatum Ridgley, and Molly Rupert; a sister, Ann Vidoni of Wheeling; a brother, William LePore of Hammond, La.; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford.
Tech Sgt. Don Christopher Fox, USAF (Ret.)
Funeral services for Don Christopher Fox, 42, of Magnolia, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour earlier. Mr. Fox died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, in the Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Fox was born June 2, 1965, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Wardel Johnson and Ann Fox.
He retired as a technical sergeant from the U.S. Air Force in 2005, following 21 years of service. He was attending Wilmington University and studying criminal justice.
Mr. Fox enjoyed sports, especially NFL football and loved to tinker around the house. During his illness, his life remained focused with his loving wife and children always concerned for their wellbeing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Paul Michels.
Mr. Fox is survived by his loving wife of 18 years Anke J. Fox, two children Tim Fox and Cindy Fox; two brothers, Tony Fox and Tshombe Chambliss; two sisters, Muriel Fox and Iyona Chambliss, all of Cleveland; a special aunt Muriel Fox of Cleveland; several nieces, nephews, friends and an extended family in Germany.
Interment with full military honors will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
Dorothy May Gooden
Graveside services for Dorothy May Gooden, formerly of Dover, were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. Ms. Gooden died following a short illness Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at the Country Rest Home, Greenwood.
Ms. Gooden was born Oct. 2, 1912, in Wilmington, daughter of the late George and Lillian Dodd Gooden.
She retired from the procurement office at Dover Air Force Base in 1969 after 20 years of service.
Ms. Gooden is survived by a niece, Sandra Kubicek of Wilmington.

Richard Eric Haufe
A memorial service for Richard Eric Haufe, 55, of Camden, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call beginning one hour earlier. Mr. Haufe died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Haufe was born Feb. 26, 1952, in Dover, the son of Richard Rudy and Bernice Teat Haufe, now of Marydel.
He graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1970, from Wesley College in 1972 with an associate's degree and from Bridgewater (Va.) College in 1974, with a Bachelor of Science degree and from North Dakota State University in 1982, with a Master of Science degree in natural resource management.
Mr. Haufe for Reichhold Chemical, Cheswold, as an environmental specialist for 25 years, retiring in 2003.
He enjoyed antiques and collectibles, especially “Star Wars” memorabilia.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Haufe is survived by his wife, Stephanie Haufe; and two sons, Richard Scott Haufe and William Carl Haufe, both of the home.
Funeral services for Donald Lee Heverin, 44, of Dover, were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, in the Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. Mr. Heverin died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna.
Mr. Heverin was born Oct. 18, 1963, in Wilmington, the son of the late Diane Rudewicz Heverin and Robert Heverin.
He had been disabled with Huntington’s Disease for 20 years. He loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing; his favorite pastime was mowing the lawn on his John Deere. His time was best spent being with family and friends.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Heverin was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Lee Heverin Jr. and Ronald Lee Heverin; a sister, Deborah Ann Heverin, and his stepmother, Sylvia Heverin.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his father’s wife, Barbara, of Dover; the mother of his children, Carlea Cahall of Dover; his daughters, Zany Lee Cahall, Robin Jeanette Cahall and Donna Ann Cahall of Dover; two brothers and their wives, Gary Welch Heverin and wife Charlotte Heverin of Dover and Richard Layton Middleton and Judy Middleton of Smyrna.
