Funeral services for Kathey Fletcher King, 69, of Frederica, will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 24, in the Agape Temple International Ministries, 103 Dorman St., Harrington, where friends may call two hours before. Mrs. King died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007.
Mrs. King was born Oct. 21, 1938, in Hamilton, Ga., daughter of the late Will and Rosa B. Fletcher.
She attended public schools in Whiteville, Ga., then moved to Delaware in 1969.
Mrs. King was a faithful member of St. James AMEC in Frederica, where she served as a class leader, member of the senior choir, the King Family Choir and the Ensemble. She also served as a stewardess, missionary, Sunday school teacher, ladies aide and was licensed as an evangelist.
In addition, she was a volunteer foster grandparent at the Harrington Day Care Center and the Boys and Girls Club a the Lake Forest North Elementary School. She found great joy in raising her goddaughter, Crystal.
Mrs. King was blessed with a telephone prayer line, which she attended faithfully every day. In her community, she served on the tenant’s council as president, vice president and secretary.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her siblings, Lucille S. Ray, Willie Fletcher, Mattie McBride, Annie Victoria Anderson, Miles Fletcher, Mertis Reese, Eddie Lee Fletcher and Rosa Hardaway.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, David Stanley King; her stepchildren and their respective spouses, David Junior King of Dover, George S. King of San Antonio, Reginald D. King of Wilmington, Lisa and Merle Wanamaker of Smyrna, Angie and Michael Crump of Newark and Carolann and Michael Britton of Frederick, Md.
Mrs. King also is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, James and Ella Mae Fletcher of Atlanta; a sister, Marie Johnson of Stone Mountain, Ga.; four sisters-in-law, Doris May, Joyce King, Annie Laura King and Lena King of Felton; a goddaughter and her husband, Crystal Godwin Bessicks and William Bessicks of Milford; her grandchildren, Omar Godwin and Sophira Bessicks; a spiritual sister, Macheria Burrell of Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Shirley Arlene Leitzinger
A celebration of life service for Shirley Arlene Leitzinger, 77, of Dover, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Mrs. Leitzinger died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at her home.
Mrs. Leitzinger was born Oct. 7, 1930, in Williamsport, Pa., daughter of the late Archie and Mildred Paulhamus.
She was a graduate of Williamsport High School and in 1952 received her nursing degree from Temple University. It was there she met and married her soulmate, Dr. William A.E. Leitzinger.
Mrs. Leitzinger worked at St. Christopher’s Children’s Hospital, Philadelphia, until she began her family. She moved with her family to Dover in 1963.
Mrs. Leitzinger worked for many years at Kent General Hospital, Dover, both on medical-surgical floors and the ICU, where her caring and compassion made her a favorite of both patients and staff.
Over the years, she volunteered for numerous organizations, including the Good Samaritans, March of Dimes, American Heart Association and Easter Seals. One of her favorite volunteering duties was working with pet therapy, where she visited local nursing homes with kittens and puppies to bring joy and comfort to the patients.
Mrs. Leitzinger was an avid gardener who enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening. Her green thumb was legendary and there was nothing she couldn’t grow.
She loved all animals and raised many strays over the years, who always seemed to find themselves at her door.
Mrs. Leitzinger enjoyed fishing, cooking and spending time outdoors, especially bird watching at Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge and vacationing in Ontario, Canada, where she always caught the biggest fish in the lake. She was a naturalist and supported wildlife conservation and many other environmental causes.
She was a talented artist, working in watercolors, oils and acrylics.
Mrs. Leitzinger’s greatest joy was raising her six children. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, whose dedication to her family was immense.
She could always be counted on to lend a listening ear, guidance and wisdom whenever needed. She opened her heart to all her children’s friends who made her house their second home. Her positive attitude, gentle soul and loving heart brought joy and peace to all who knew her.
Mrs. Leitzinger was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Dr. William A. E. Leitzinger, in 2006.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, William David and Toshiko Leitzinger of Middletown and Andrew and Laurie Leitzinger of Glenmoore, Pa.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Virginia and Patrick Neely of Christiana, Pa., Deborah Nissley of Dover, Barbara and Dale Ward of Salem, Va., and Karen and Mike Seeney of Dover; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Woolridge of Clearfield, Pa., and Clara Schoderbek of Helena, Mont.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Linda Machulas
Memorial services for Linda Machulas, companion of Harvey Baker of Felton, were held Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Church of Christ, Dover.
Funeral services for James Helms Massey were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, in the Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. Mr. Massey died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, in Sherril’s Ford, N.C.
Mr. Massey lived with his grandmother at her home on Division Street in Dover. Beginning in the fourth grade, he worked at Satterfield’s Market on the corner of Division Street and Governors Avenue. He graduated from Dover High School in1950, and left Dover April 11, 1951, to enlist in the U.S. Navy.
While in the military, he was selected to attend naval schools to learn a new system for keeping spare parts for electronic equipment. He eventually was assigned to the USS Markab, a destroyer tender servicing the Atlantic Destroyer Fleet and it was anchored in Narraganset Bay off from Newport, R.I.
After his discharge, he moved to Minnesota, later graduating from the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. He worked for Royal Insurance, beginning in Baltimore, and eventually moving to Chicago, New York and Charlotte, N.C. At the time of his retirement, he was the leader of Royal’s premium audit department.
Memorial services for Sylvia Ann Maxey, 77, of Dover, were held Monday, Nov. 19, in the Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. Ms. Maxey died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Ms. Maxey was born Dec. 24, 1929, in Freeport, Ill.
She worked as a secretary, most recently for Artesian Water of New Castle. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Ms. Maxey enjoyed horseback riding, knitting, crocheting, reading and loved to watch Home and Garden Television.
She is survived by a son, Roland E. Hellengreen of Harrington; two daughters, Marie H. Hellengreen of Middletown and Isidra Cancel of Dover; a granddaughter, Sylvia M. Hellengreen of Magnolia; a grandson-in-law, Phillip A. Hicks of Magnolia; a grandson, James H. DeShields Jr. of Dover; a great-granddaughter, Ilissia K. Martin of Magnolia; a great-grandson, Phillip J. “Isaiah” Hicks of Magnolia; a niece, Elizabeth Lambert of Florida; and a nephew, James Menzies of Florida.
A memorial service for Carol Frances Myers, 47, of Camden, will be held Sunday, Nov. 25, in the Faith Baptist Church, Smyrna. Mrs. Myers died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007.
Mrs. Myers was born July 10, 1960, in Springfield, Ill., daughter of the late Bill and Pauline Rice.
As a 10-year-old child, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior at Beth Haven Baptist Church, in Denver, N.C. She met her husband in 1977 at a nursing home where they both worked, and they married in 1979. The couple moved to Pensacola, Fla., where they attended Pensacola Bible Institute, graduating in 1986.
In 1991, the family moved to Smyrna to help Pastor Allan Ryman at Faith Baptist. Until her illness in 2005, Mrs. Myers taught Sunday School, Junior Church, and was always involved in the nursing home ministry.
She served the Lord for 37 years and had a compassion and a love for God and his people that was unparalleled. Her love, sweet spirit and giving nature will be remembered by all who knew her.
Mrs. Myers is survived by her husband, Michael R. Myers, the assistant pastor of Faith Baptist Church; a son, Michael R. Myers II; Candie Quick, who was like her daughter; a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Joan Ford and their children Michael, Shannon and Daniel; and Joleen Rice.
Arrangements were by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium, Smyrna.
Buddy Lee Price
A memorial service for Buddy Lee Price, 45, of Viola, was held Tuesday, Nov. 20, in New Castle. Mr. Price died after a battle with cancer Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at home.
Mr. Price was the son of Thomas J. Price, now of Marion Va., and Diana D. McCutcheon of Viola.
He was a farmer.
Mr. Price was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph West; and two sisters, Marcella J. Johnson and Doreen M. Rouser.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Jack Brandon Price; three brothers, Thomas H. Price of Virginia, Richard Comer of West Virginia and North West of Tennessee; two sisters, Golden I. Kleockner and Linda S. Cochran, both of Delaware; a brother-in-law, Daniel J. Kloeckner; 10 nieces, four nephews; and eight great nieces and nephews.
