Senior Master Sgt. George Arthur Yates, USAF (Ret.)
Funeral services for George Arthur Yates, 82, of Frederica, were held Sunday, Oct. 21, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford. Mr. Yates died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, in his home.
Mr. Yates was born in Princeton, Maine, son of the late Arthur R. and Ruby E. Cousins Yates.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1948 until 1971, when he retired at the rank of senior master sergeant. He spent much of his career as a flight engineer.
Mr. Yates was a member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post No. 2, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6921 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He also was a member of the Frederica Senior Center and the Modern Maturity Center, Dover.
Mr. Yates loved new cars, good food, woodworking, cabinetry and gardening.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dover.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Payant Yates, in 1993.
Mr. Yates is survived by his wife of 12 years, Helen T. Olsen Yates; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen J. and Judy Yates of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two daughters, Sallie A. Hall of Frederica and Mary Jo Yates of Dagsboro.
He also is survived by six grandchildren, Erik Yates, Stephen Garvey, Katie Francis, Jerry Garvey, Meghan Johle and Daniel J. Hall; two great-grandchildren, Connor J. Hall and Hannah Garvey; a stepson, Donald A. Richardson Sr. of Seminole, Fla.; and three step-grandchildren, Brittany Richardson, Savannah Richardson and Donald A. Richardson Jr.
Interment with military honors was in Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, near Frederica.

Master Sgt. Lloyd Kendall Boulter, USAF (Ret.)
Funeral services for Lloyd Kendall Boulter, 68, of Dover, were held Monday, Oct. 8, in the Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. Mr. Boulter died following a long and courageous battle with cancer, Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007.
Mr. Boulter was born Sept. 11, 1939, in Skinners Neck, Md., son of the late Elmer and Martha Kendall Boulter.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving his country proudly for 20 years, and retiring in 1979 at the rank of master sergeant.
After his retirement, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1992 as postmaster at the Marydel Post Office.
After leaving the post office, Mr. Boulter returned to college and in 1984 received his associate’s degree in applied science and business technology from Delaware Technical & Community College in 1984. He then attended Delaware State University and in 1995 received his Bachelor of Science in accounting and business administration.
Mr. Boulter opened his own in-home tax service in 1995, which he ran until his passing.
He was a sports enthusiast, especially watching golf on television, and enjoyed staying current with politics. He enjoyed dining out, especially with family and friends.
Mr. Boulter will be remembered as a giving person and always willing to help others in need.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Peggy Jean Boulter; a son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd K. Jr. and Linda Boulter of Townsend; two daughters, Lisa K. Domfort of Camden and Lori L. Boulter of Dover; and two sisters, Genevieve Potts of Chestertown, Md., and Doris Trimble of Skinners Neck.
He also is survived by five grandchildren, Jessica Campbell-Howe, John David Kirwin, James Michael Domfort, Zachary Taylor Boulter and Kayla Loren Boulter; and two great-granddaughters, Dolly Jean Campbell-Howe and Trinity Lavalley Kemp.
Interment with full military honors was in Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, near Frederica.

Doris Rouch Bowman
Memorial services for Doris Rouch Bowman, 80, of Wyoming, were held Monday, Oct. 8, in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, Dover. Mrs. Bowman died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mrs. Bowman was born Jan. 14, 1927, in Wyoming, where she spent all of her life.
Mrs. Bowman was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, shopping and the holidays, especially decorating for Christmas for the children.
She loved being with family and her grandchildren and always was there for them.
Mrs. Bowman was a member of the Harvest Years Senior Center, Camden, and the Modern Maturity Center, Dover, where she volunteered for many years. She always was willing to volunteer whenever needed; she never knew the word no.
She touched many lives.
Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ernest Daniel “Dick” Bowman, in 2005; and her daughter, Doreen Rife, in 1998.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary R. and Marti Bowman of Wyoming; and her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Larry Washburn of Magnolia.
Mrs. Bowman also is survived by four grandchildren, Holly Washburn of Magnolia, Hope Bellois of Pensacola, Fla., Chantel Cloak and her husband Edward of Wyoming, and Daniel Washburn of Magnolia; three great-grandsons, Garry, Correy and Aidan; and two step-great-grandchildren, Shawna Kerrick and Rebekah Kerrick, both of Wyoming.

Mae L. Welhaf Brittingham
Funeral services for Mae L. Welhaf Brittingham, 85, of Viola, were held Friday, Oct. 5, in the Toppitzer Funeral Home, Drexel, Pa. Mrs. Brittingham died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.
Mrs. Brittingham was born and raised in Mahanoy City, Pa., and was a longtime resident of Philadelphia before moving to Delaware almost 20 years ago.
A homemaker, Mrs. Brittingham enjoyed traveling and was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was described as “everyone’s mom,” and was also an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Brittingham, who died in 2000; and a daughter, Diane Chrupcala.
Mrs. Brittingham is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anna Scafidi and Bob Solomon; a brother, Ike Welhaf; five grandchildren, Frank and Albert Scafidi, Deven Butler and Jada and Kyle Chrupcala; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Edward T. “Ted” Crawford, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in the Christ Episcopal Church, 501 S. State St., Dover. Mr. Crawford died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Crawford was born Dec. 29, 1919, in Philadelphia.
He attended the University of Pennsylvania but his studies were interrupted when he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1940. He served through World War II at Quonset Point, R.I., and served most of his time in the Atlantic on Ascension Island.
Mr. Crawford finished his college education after the war, and moved with his wife to Washington, D.C. where he was in private practice as a certified public accountant. One of his memorable government contracts enabled him to travel to Laos and to assist later in the United Nations’ clearing of the Suez Canal in 1954.
He moved to Dover in 1966, joining Delaware State College (now University) as the college’s vice president and director of finance. He worked at Delaware State College until his retirement in 1990.
Mr. Crawford was a member of the Camden-Wyoming Rotary, and was active in Christ Episcopal Church of Dover, the YMCA of Dover, United Way of Delaware, and the Salvation Army. In March 2000, he was named a member emeritus by the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. In May 2000, Mr. Crawford received the “Others” award from the Salvation Army, its highest award given to a civilian. In February 2007, he was named a life member of the Salvation Army’s Advisory Council of Dover.
Mr. Crawford is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emma Jo Sabo Crawford of Dover; two daughters and their husbands, Christine and Bob Spinelli of Kimberton, Pa., and Allyson and Larry Heinold of Newark; a sister, Dorothy Janet Maloney of Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Kevin Heinold and Kimberly Staub and her husband, Kevin, of Newtown, Pa.

Donald F. Glosenger Sr.
Funeral services for Donald F. Glosenger Sr., 72, of Felton, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Bear. Mr. Glosenger died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Glosenger was born in Carbondale, Pa., son of the late Walter and Laura Glosenger.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy for more than 10 years.
While living in New Jersey he was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Glosenger was an electrician for more than 32 years with Schivone Construction Co. in Secaucus, N.J. He also worked at Kunkle Auto Parts as a driver.
In his spare time he enjoyed watching football and visiting local casinos. He also enjoyed fishing and taught his children how to fish.
Mr. Glosenger will be remembered as an easygoing person who was well liked by all. He was very dependable, but also a jokester and liked to have fun.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Henry and Merle; and his sisters, Helen, Lois and Evelyn.
Mr. Glosenger is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Genevieve “Jenny” Glosenger of Felton; a son and his wife, Donald F. Jr. and Patti Glosenger of Harrington; two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna Colatrella of Felton and Patricia and Richard Weis of Edison, N.J.; a brother, Elwood Glosenger; four sisters, Marion, Barbara, Vivian and Eleanor; and his grandchildren, Mandi Glosenger, Margaret Weis and Justin Colatrella.

Walter Donald Johnson Sr.
Funeral services for Walter Donald Johnson Sr., 90, of Dover, were held Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Johnson was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Kearny, N.J., and lived there until moving to Delaware in 1990.
Mr. Johnson graduated from Kearny High School, attended the American Institute of Banking and entered the banking profession.
He retired from his 40-plus year career in banking as the assistant vice president of Valley National Bank.
Mr. Johnson was an active member and treasurer of Union Lodge No. 7, Dover, as well as a member Nur Temple, Delaware, the Salam Temple in Livingston, N.J., and the Royal Order of Jesters of Delaware. He also was a member and officer in the Clifton, N.J., Lions.
He attended and served as a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, located in Kearny.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth.
He survived by his sons, Walter "Don" Johnson Jr. and Glenn R. Johnson Sr.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Interment will be Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Restland Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J.
