Funeral services for Betty Ann Miller Cockburn, 71, of Paxton, Ill., formerly of Dover, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, in the Christ Episcopal Church, 501 S. State St., Dover. A viewing will be held from 7 until 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Mrs. Cockburn died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, in Champaign, Ill.
Mrs. Cockburn was born March 20, 1936, in Massena, N.Y., daughter of the late Clifford Miller and Maria Holden Miller.
She graduated from Massena High School in 1954 and attended Potsdam State College where she majored in education and music. In 1957 she married George G. Cockburn Jr. at the Potsdam Episcopal Church in Potsdam, N.Y. He died Aug. 10, 1998.
After living in Virginia, Alabama and Texas, the couple settled in Dover, where they developed Cobel’s, a successful retail arts, crafts and hobbies business. She had a superb talent for crafting and taught many people in the Dover area in many facets of the art.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, George Gordon III and Brenda Cockburn of Paxton and Steven Daniel and Denise Cockburn of Champaign; five grandchildren, Steven Daniel Cockburn and Jerrica Gallegos, both of Champaign, Mark Alen Cockburn of Dover and Mindy Collier and Hillary Sawyer, both of Paxton.
Mrs. Cockburn also is survived by two granddaughters, Aubree and Lauren Sawyer of Paxton; a brother, Robert Charles Miller of Massena; and two sisters, Helen Vera Adams and Linda Mary Miller, both of Albany, N.Y.
Interment will be beside her late husband in the Christ Episcopal Church cemetery.

Linda J. Cuti Crane
Memorial services for Linda J. Cuti Crane, 49, of Dover, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, where friends may call two hours earlier. Mrs. Crane died peacefully Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, in her home.
Mrs. Crane was born Sept. 29, 1957, in Hutchinson, Kan., daughter of Randolph L. Cuti Sr. of Melbourne, Fla., and the late Betty J. Vater Cuti.
She spent most of her life in Delaware and worked as a correctional officer at the Delaware Correctional Center, Smyrna, for the last 18 years.
Mrs. Crane enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and camping in the mountains. She also enjoyed crocheting, doing puzzles and cooking, as well as caring for and rescuing animals. Her biggest joy was spending time with and caring for her new granddaughter. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Crane is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Jolene and Douglas Mast of Felton, and Donna Evans of Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Randolph L. Jr. and Cindy Cuti of Rockledge, Fla., and Steven Cuti of Lodi, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Alana Mast.

Michael Allen Dennis
A memorial service for Michael Allen Dennis, 30, of Felton, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, in the chapel of the Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford. Mr. Dennis died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, in Maryland Shock Trauma, Baltimore.
Mr. Dennis was born in Milford, son of Michael Howell, now of Albuquerque, N.M., and Patty Dennis of Milford.
He was a roofer for Cates Construction.
Mr. Dennis enjoyed listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and was the type of person who would do anything for family or friends.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Neva Elizabeth Dickerson; a sister, Jennifer Watkins of Milford; a brother, Brian Dennis of Florida; an aunt, Kelly Dalious of Felton; an uncle, Melvin Dennis of Lancaster, Pa.; and two best friends, James Cale and Noble Dill of Milford.

Evelyn Groves
A viewing for Evelyn Groves, 89, of York, S.C., formerly of Harrington, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, in the McKnatt, Carpenter and Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where funeral services will follow at noon. Ms. Groves died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, in the Peidmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, S.C., of complications following a hip fracture.
Ms. Groves was born July 14, 1918, in Harrington, daughter of the late Norman and Nettie Wix.
She attended a country school near Harrington along with her 12 brothers and sisters.
Ms. Groves was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Grasonville, Md., for many years and a resident at Tilghman Terrace in Centreville, Md., for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert S. Groves.
Ms. Groves is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Gloria Roberts of Gambrills, Md., Alberta and Tim Philbeck, of York, with whom she lived for the past five years, and Betty Soucy of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two brothers, Norman and Leon Wix, both of Harrington; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Hannah Hurlburt, 91, of Dover died Monday, July 30, 2007, at Silver Lake Center, Dover.
Mrs. Hurlburt was born in New York, daughter of the late John and Tekla Perlman D’Allesandro.
She was a homemaker most of her life, and lived in Nanuet, N.Y., and Florida before moving to Dover in 2000.
Mrs. Hurlburt was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed playing bingo.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hurlburt was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hurlburt, in November 1973.
She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Susan and Peter Tornoe of Dover, and Nancy and Michael Mercier of Canterbury, Conn.; and two grandsons, Robert and Gregory Tornoe, both of Newark.
Arrangements were by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director Inc., Dover.
George William Kaercher Jr.
Remembrance services for George William Kaercher Jr., 67, of Bowers Beach, were held Saturday, Aug. 4, in the Trader Funeral Home, Dover. Mr. Kaercher died following a long battle with cancer Monday, July 30, 2007, in Green Valley Pavilion, Smyrna.
Mr. Kaercher was born Aug. 24, 1939, in Beaver Falls, Pa., son of the late George Sr. and Gwendolyn Emes Kaercher.
He was a life member of the Bowers Beach Volunteer Fire Co., and a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge, Frederica Senior Center and Harvest Years Senior Center.
Mr. Kaercher was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He worked at Eastern Shore Concrete, Bear, and later for the State of Delaware Department of Transportation, Building and Maintenance Department, retiring in 2001.
Mr. Kaercher enjoyed dancing, bowling and bingo, and his favorite pastime was playing the slots at Midway Slots, Harrington and Dover Downs.
He loved to spend time with his grandson Brandon, with whom he shared a special bond. He also enjoyed his youngest granddaughter, Alyssa, who inspired his fight against cancer so he could see her learn to walk and talk.
Mr. Kaercher was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Spayd Kaercher, in 2006; a brother, John Kaercher; and a grandson, Craig R. Rust.
He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Johnny Moyer Jr. of Harrington, Debra and Coleman Morris Jr. of Frederica, Lida Ann Villanueva of Harrington and her former husband Randy Rust of Felton, and Shirley and Phillip Pennington Sr. of Bowers Beach.
Mr. Kaercher also is survived by a sister, Theona Carson of Dover; his grandchildren, John Moyer III, Kevin Moyer, Coleman Morris III, Lindsay Osika, Tammy Greene, Tisha Boyd, Tara Geyer, Phil Pennington Jr., Adam Pennington, Tyler Pennington, Brandon Haggerty and Alyssa Pennington; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Lydia Miller
Funeral services for Lydia Miller, 83, of Bliss, N.Y., formerly of Wyoming, were held Thursday, Aug. 2, at the home of Daniel Yoder, Rose Valley School Road, Dover. Mrs. Miller died Monday, July 30, 2007, in Bliss.
Mrs. Miller was born in Mexico, daughter of the late Mose and Sarah Troyer.
Her husband, Andy J.D. Miller, preceded her in death March 19, 1985.
Mrs. Miller is survived by four sons, Mose Miller and Jonas Miller, both of Crab Orchard, Ky., Paul Miller of Bliss, N.Y. and Andy Miller of Windsor, Ky.; four daughters, Sarah Hertzler and Barbara Detweiler, both of Lamar, Mo., Lizzy Ann Mast of Cherry Valley, N.Y., and Edna Yoder of Dover; 59 grandchildren; and 103 great-grandchildren.
