A Mass of Christian Burial for Maria Gloria Pingel, 85, of Dover, was celebrated Monday, July 2, in the Church of the Holy Cross, Dover. Mrs. Pingel died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, in Westminster Assisted Living, Dover.
Mrs. Pingel was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Havana, Cuba, daughter of the late Salvador and Estela Gamba Juncadella.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Pingel, in 1997.
Mrs. Pingel is survived by two daughters and their wives; Gloria M. and Michael P. Horn and Ann M. and Paul L. McNinch, all of Dover; a brother, Salvador Juncadella of Florida; two grandchildren, Steven G. Horn and his wife, Dawn N., of Lewes and Lindsay A. McNinch of Dover; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea Haggerty, Paige Maria Horn and Nathan Michael Horn.

Barbara Powell
Services for Barbara Powell, 74, were held Monday, July 2, in the Trader Funeral Home, Dover. Mrs. Powell died Thursday, June 28, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mrs. Powell was born March 17, 1933, the first child of the late Roy W. Deats and Catherine Calhoun.
She began her working career at Playtex in Dover. With her first husband, she worked as a secretary/business manager for O.B. Williams Electric. Later, she returned to Playtex as an accountant, was secretary for attorney Joe Leszez, and finally was an administrative secretary for the Kent County Department of Human Services.
In her spare time, Mrs. Powell mostly enjoyed spending time with her family. She also liked to garden, do needlepoint, recycle and travel to sunny places with those she loved. She lived a full, active and enjoyable life.
Mrs. Powell"s service to the community continued after retirement with countless volunteer hours as a life member with Kent General Hospital Junior Board, Wesley United Methodist Church, Eastern Star Victory Chapel Chapter No. 15, Rolling Acres Homemakers and the Round Table Club of Wyoming. She provided assistance to all who asked it of her.
She is survived by her husband, Snooky Powell; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Fran Deats; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ken Callaway; two sons and their wives, Mike and Pam Williams, and Brett and Karen Williams; three grandchildren, Zach Williams, Zoey Williams and Weston Williams; and a step-granddaughter, Patti Fransisco.

Gordon L. ‘Woody’ Woodlin Sr.
Funeral services for Gordon L. “Woody” Woodlin Sr., were held Saturday, June 30, in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover. Mr. Woodlin died Monday, June 18, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Woodlin was born Oct. 27, 1942, in Dover, son of the late Charles Herbert Woodlin and Francis Prattis Woodlin.
He was educated in the Caesar Rodney, Dover, and Middletown Louis L. Redding school districts. After leaving school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, and was honorably discharged from both.
After leaving the military, he returned to Delaware and married Sylvia Woodlin in 1962.
He worked at various local jobs and remained at Delaware State University for more than 30 years as a sergeant in the security department until he retired in 2000. During his tenure at DSU, he completed the city of Dover police training and certification.
Mr. Woodlin loved people and always was willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed crabbing, fishing, boxing, football, basketball and baseball. He particularly loved baseball as he remained a lifelong player and coach at the Gun & Rod Club in Houston.
He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Harrington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gordon L. Woodlin Jr., on July 5, 1989; a brother, Julius C. Woodlin Sr.; and a nephew, Kenny Beecher.
He is survived by his two children, Pamela Briddell and Jamal Woodlin, both of Dover; four grandchildren, Miasha Woodlin, Laree Briddell, April Briddell, all of Dover and Angelita Briddell of Rhode Island; a sister, Lois Beecher of Camden; and a brother, Aubrey Stevenson of Dover.
Mr. Woodlin also is survived by a sister-in-law, Shirley Woodlin of New Castle; and a special cousin raised as his sister, Phyllis Scott of Camden; three aunts, Bertha Foote and Mable Jones, both of Baltimore and Laura Waters of Dover; a longtime companion, Juanita Parker and her children whom he raised, Jason Parker, Vilicia Parker, Victoria Bowden and Leta Parker, all of Dover; and two grandchildren, Shafawn Parker and Dajuan Parker; two special friends, Alfreda Smith of Milford and Philomonia Goldsboro of Camden; a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Walter M. Bell Sr., 85, of Hartly, were held Tuesday, July 3, in the Trader Funeral Home, Dover. Mr. Bell died Thursday, June 28, 2008, in his home.
Mr. Bell was born July 27, 1921, in Dover, son of the late Herman and Matilda Hamilton Bell.
He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Bell retired from the state of Delaware Highway Department after 25 years of dedicated service.
He loved playing horseshoes, bowling on a state league team and fishing. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan.
Mr. Bell was a member of First Baptist Church, Dover.
He was preceded in death by a son, Walter M. Bell Jr.; and a daughter, Shirley A. Hazen.
Mr. Bell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pearl L. Bell of Hartly; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marcia E. Bell of Hartly and Diane L. and William Evans of Magnolia; a son-in-law, Skip Hazen of Hartly; four grandsons, Tony Hazen, Jason Hazen, Matt Evans and Ryan Ridgeway; two granddaughters, Missy Wamble, Kristina Schweitzer and Stacey Wright; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Marvin Howard Hill, 76
FELTON - Marvin Howard Hill of Felton died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, in Norfolk, Va. He was 76.
Mr. Hill was born March 2, 1922, in Laurel, the son of the late Howard and Nellie Hill.
He retired in 1966 from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant on the flight line after serving his country for 20 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and was also an ex-POW of that war in Austria for 18 months. He had also served as a flight engineer on bombers.
Following his years in the service, he worked as an engineer for 10 years at Playtex in Dover, and had a home-improvement business with his son.
Mr. Hill was a member of Liberty Church in Dover, where he served as an elder. He spoke and preached at the Wednesday service in Courtland Manor. He was also a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Hill, on Jan. 7, 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hevalow Hill of Felton; a son, Mitch M. Hill of Dover; a stepdaughter, Chris Berg of Pittsville, Md.; a stepson, David Werner of Seaford; two grandchildren, Michael Hill and Stacey Rash; two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Berg and Rachel Berg; and a niece, Sherry Hill of Salisbury, Md.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Liberty Church, 1150 West College Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

John A. Brown, 62
LEIPSIC - John A. Brown of Leipsic died as a result of a heart attack Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. He was 62.
Mr. Brown was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Clarence A. Brown and Pearl VanPelt Brown.
He served in the U.S. Army for three years and had an honorable discharge in 1960.
Mr. Brown then worked for General Motors Corp. on the assembly line, and retired in 1993 after 30 years of service.
He had been a longtime resident of Leipsic.
In his spare time, Mr. Brown enjoyed woodworking and painting.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Nancy Brown of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of Honor, Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Home, 1175 S. State St., Dover.
Clinton Green, 48
DOVER - Clinton Green of Dover died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in his home. He was 48.
Mr. Green was born on Oct. 25, 1949.
There are no known immediate survivors.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill Cemetery, Smyrna.

Elizabeth Holt Tyus, 83
MILTON - Elizabeth Holt Tyus of Milton died of cancer Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in her home. She was 83.
Ms. Tyus was a homemaker.
She was affiliated with Friendship Baptist Church in Lewes.
Ms. Tyus was a member of the Missionary Society of Friendship Baptist Church in Lewes, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a daughter, Katherine Green and her husband, Francis, both of Milton; a sister, Myrtle Gordon of Howthorne, Fla.; a brother, James Lofton of Kissimmee, Fla.; a grandchild, Elizabeth Newman of Milton; an adopted granddaughter, Della Miller of Millsboro; a step-granddaughter, Tangeia Gualasell of Dover; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, Lewes, where friends may call two hours prior to service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

William Linden Wilson, 60
BLADES - William Linden Wilson of Blades died of heart failure Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 60.
Mr. Wilson was born in Denton, Md., the son of the late Woodrow Wallace Wilson and Katherine Elizabeth Noble.
He was a maintenance man for Peeble's Department Store in Seaford for three years, retiring in 1996.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the Nanticoke Post 6 American Legion, a member of the Moose Lodge 1728 in Seaford, and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Skeliche Wilson of Blades; three sons, Mark Wilson of Laurel, Mike Wilson of Seaford, and Marlin Wilson of Delmar; two stepsons, Carl Thacker Jr. and Tony Thacker, both of Seaford; two daughters, Lisa Lemon of Laurel, and Lori Hitchens of Delmar, Md.; a brother, Frank Wilson of Rhodesdale, Md.; and 15 grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Watson-Yates Funeral Home in Seaford, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, Concord, Md.

Kenneth Crowl, 63
DOVER - Kenneth Crowl of Dover, and formerly of Downs Chapel died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, in his home. He was 63.
Mr. Crowl was born in 1935, in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of the late Charles A. Crowl and Bernice M. Crowl.
He served his country in the U.S. Army.
He had worked as a road foreman on the turnpike for the State of Delaware for 11 years, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Crowl then owned and operated K.C. Quality Rubber Stamps until 1993.
He was an avid freshwater fisherman.
He moved to the Dover area a year ago, after he had lived in the Downes Chapel area for 20 years.
Mr. Crowl was a member of the Masonic Lodge-Richmond Aquehinga Lodge 66 F.& A.M., in Staten Island.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Crowl, Arthur Crowl, and Chester Crowl Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kay Crowl of Dover; a son, Kirk Miles of Newark; a daughter, Wanda Miles of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Myron Crowl of Apopka, Fla., and Albert Crowl of Toms River, N.J.; and four grandchildren, Patty and Tara, both of Newark, and Jeremey of Fort Camel, Ky., and Daniel of St. Petersburg.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Torbert Funeral Chapel in Dover, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
