Funeral services for Iona Maxine Crawford, 51, of Dover, were held Saturday, May 26, in Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Dover. Mrs. Crawford died Monday, May 21, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Ms. Crawford was born Dec. 15, 1955, daughter of Frances A. Crawford of Dover and the late William C. Crawford.
A graduate of Dover High School with a focus in culinary arts, she worked as a food service professional as a bartender, waitress and manager. Most recently, she was a sales associate at Wal-Mart until she became ill and could no longer work.
Growing up as a child, she attended the Mount Zion A.M.E. Church of Dover. In her later years, she attended Calvary Assembly of God. Iona loved the Lord very much and kept him first in her life. Every faithful day was begun with prayer.
Ms. Crawford had many interests, hobbies and talents. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her family. She also enjoyed reading, shopping, dining out, taking photographs, having a good time and singing.
In addition to her mother, Ms. Crawford is survived by her dedicated and loving husband of eight years, Ronald “Sal” Alpiano; a devoted daughter, Nicole Crawford of Newark; a devoted son, Edmund “LJ” Ellis Jr. of Dover; a beautiful stepdaughter, Shakirah Alpiano of Philadelphia; and seven wonderful grandchildren, Jalen, Shadeja, Jaymere, Naikeir, Jaziah, Naseem and Alina.
She also is survived by five sisters and a brother-in-law, Antoinette and Dan Franklin of Newark, Lynn Williams of Wilmington, Ruth Ann Crawford of Titusville, Fla., Barbara A. Hutchins of Dover, and Sara Ann Crawford of New Castle; a sister-in-law, Anna Maria Alpiano of Harleysville, Pa.; eight brothers and three sisters-in-law, William C. and Rose Crawford of Jacksonville, N.C., Barry and Cheryl Crawford, Gary and Lil Crawford, Allen Ward Jr., Nathan Ward and Terry “Dave” Davis, all of Dover, Dana Munson of New Castle, and Ernie Crawford of New Mexico; an aunt, Edith Bethel of Dover; two uncles, Knowles Hovington of Millsboro, and Francis Bethel Sr. of Dover; a loving godmother, Thelma Brown of Dover; a wonderful mother-in-law, Nedra Ellis of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many other family members and friends.

The Rev. Charles F. Evans Sr.
Remembrance services for the Rev. Charles F. Evans Sr., 77, of Camden, were held Friday, May 25, in Trader Funeral Home, Dover. The Rev. Evans died Saturday, May 19, 2007, in Christiana Medical Center, Wilmington.
The Rev. Evans was born July 18, 1929, in Chatteroy, W.Va., son of the late Mathias and Ida Mae Little Evans.
He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, and was retired from General Motors.He became a minister in 1975.
The Rev. Evans was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3238, Camden. He joined in March 1988, and was elected post chaplain, district chaplain and state chaplain, all from 1999 to present. He was also appointed as national deputy chief of staff for 2005-06.
He was a member of the Military Order of Cooties and elected as a sky pilot from 1999 to present, grand of Delaware chaplains from 2005-07, supreme third district chaplain for 2005-07 and nominated for chaplain of the year and grand of Delaware for 2007. He was also a member of the King Crab Pup Tent No. 2, Texas Horny Toads, VFW National Home of Children and Walter L. Fox American Legion Post No. 2.
The Rev. Evans enjoyed fishing.
He was one of 16 children, 11 of who died as young children. In addition, to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Evans; a grandson, Phillip Charles Evans; and three sisters, Alice Payne, Bamma Slaughter and Peru Hill.
The Rev. Evans is survived by his children and their spouses, James E. Evans of South Carolina, Aline and Kenneth James Hutchins of Dover, Charles F. Jr. and Karen Sue Evans of Camden, Arthur D. and Darlene Evans of Camden and Donna Sue and Randy Vaughn of South Carolina.
He also is survived by his grandchildren, Dina Logan, Kim Rogers, Tracey Logan, Ken Hutchins, Kathy Steinhoff, Cheryl Cox, Tosha Yates, Angie Timmons, Faye Evans, Crystal Hammond, Theresa Hart, Jason Hart, Carla Hart, Dallas Vaughn and Austin Vaughn; an honorary granddaughter, Dakota Hunter; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sylvia Sluder; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Interment was in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, west of Dover.

Beulah Nell Lambert Gorman
Beulah Nell Lambert Gorman, 86, of Dover, died Monday, May 21, 2007.
Mrs. Gorman was born in Circleville, W.Va. daughter of the late Ernest John and Lillie Jane Moyers Lambert.
She had lived at the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, W.Va. since 2006.
On May 16, 1942, she married John Frederick Gorman, who preceded her in death May 19, 1991.
Mrs. Gorman was well known for her delicious and beautifully decorated cakes, ranging from a simple sheet cake to a many-tiered wedding cake, her intricate and beautifully crocheted tablecloths and afghans, her homemade rolls and her boundless drive to get things done.
She cared about people, was always there for those in need and was generous in giving what she could.
She was the quintessential example of turning the other cheek and the Golden Rule.Although she reportedly had a hard life growing up and didn’t have much, she turned that life around and became a wonderful and talented person. She set the Christian example of how to live a life the way God dealt it.
She was a friend to everyone and everyone was her friend. To each of her children, she gave part of herself and they say all of them together could not make one of her. She was amazing.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John Frederick Gorman II; her brother, Benny Encil Lambert; her sister, Mary Louise Keplinger; and a grandson, Sheldon Lee Gorman Jr.
Mrs. Gorman is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Vernon Elwood Lambert, Sheldon Lee and Anna Gorman, all of Dover and William Calvert and Florence Gorman of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Edith Karen and Bill Whitaker, Barbara Nell Cool, Patricia Ann and Jake Tieman of Dover and Ruth Ellen Whitaker of Franklin, W.Va.; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Ruth G. and Harold Bodkin, Sterle E. and Joy Lambert, Ronny S. and Corrine Lambert and Nancy L. and David Fulk; and many nieces and nephews.
Her ashes were buried next to those of her husband in the Moyer family plot on the Charles Lambert farm, Smith Creek Road, Franklin.

Rooney Sungil Gwak
Funeral services for Rooney Sungil Gwak, 5 1/2 months, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour before. Rooney died Sunday, May 27, 2007.
Rooney was born Dec. 5, 2006, in Dover, son of Dae and Min Yoon Gwak.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Roy Sungil Gwak; and his paternal grandparents, Kyeon Pok Gwak and Myunng Soon Gwak of Magnolia.
Funeral services for Noland Lester Henry Sr., 51, of San Diego, formerly of Dover, were held Saturday, May 12, at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover. Mr. Henry died suddenly Friday, May 4, 2007.
Mr. Henry was born Oct. 27, 1955, in Wilmington, the son of Roland L. Henry and the late Alice M. Henry.
He was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School and Wilmington College in New Castle. He received his bachelor’s degree in business and computer science.
Mr. Henry moved to Wilmington, where he worked for Dupont as a data entry supervisor for 18 years. He was also a model for Ford Modeling Services for four years. He left Wilmington to pursue a consultant business for Alzheimer’s disease clients.
He enjoyed all sports, and played on the football and basketball teams for Caesar Rodney High School. He enjoyed spending time with his son, playing golf, tee ball, soccer and video games.
In addition to his mother, who died in 1991, Mr. Henry was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Oscar Henry and Bessie Nottingham; and his maternal grandparents, Robert and Elsie Garnett.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, June B. Henry; a son, Nolan Lester Henry Jr. of San Diego; two brothers, James L. Garnett and his friend, Bernice, of Wilmington, Jermaine L. Henry and his wife, Francine, of Dover; three sisters, Brenda J. Hicks and her husband, Tyrone T., of Dover, Sandra J. Henry and her friend, Dwayne Pearson, of Dover and Yolanda J. Jones and her husband, Richard, of Dover; five nieces; five nephews; eight great-nephews; one great-niece; a very special friend of the family, Dempsey C. Bordley; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Remembrance services for Carlton Edward King, 75, of Dover, were held Tuesday, May 29, at the Trader Funeral Home, Dover. Mr. King died Thursday, May 24, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. King was born Dec. 12, 1931, in Rising Sun, son of the late Walter Preston and Elmira Thompson King.
He was a Korean War veteran of the United States Navy. After his Navy service, he went to work with George & Lynch as a heavy equipment operator. He also worked with Dr. Mersky at the Dover Animal Hospital.
Following his retirement, he worked part time at the former Faulkner’s Store at Pearson's Corner.
Mr. King was preceded in death by a son, Gary Fowler; and a daughter, Faith Frank.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Gertrude King of Dover; two sons, Ronald L. Fowler of Harrington and Douglas C. Fowler of Felton; three daughters, Sue Forrest of Hartly, Connie Y. Daniels of Dover and Carlon King; a brother, Wayne King of Dover; a sister, Mary Louise Lyons of Dover; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

John Alexander Lewis
Funeral services for John Alexander Lewis, 82, of Magnolia, will be held at noon Wednesday, May 30, at the Pippin Funeral Home 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where a viewing will take place beginning at 11 a.m. Mr. Lewis died Friday, May 25, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Lewis was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Jersey City, N.J., son of the late John and Mary Lewis.
He was proud of his time spent in the U.S. Army and Army Air Forces and was a veteran of World War II who served in Germany and France. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze service star, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Lewis had worked as a machinist for David Kahn’s and also Acme Rivets and Machine Corp. After living most of his life in different towns in New Jersey he retired in 1988 to Sun City West, Ariz., before moving to Delaware in 2002.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Thomas; and an infant sister, Martha.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marion “Midge” Lehe Lewis; his sons, John and Alan; his daughter, Debra Jeanne; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Stephen; and many nieces and nephews.
