Adalberto Aviles Sr.

Funeral services for Adalberto Aviles Sr., 48, of Dover, were held Friday, April 20, in Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. Mr. Aviles died Sunday, April 15, 2007, in Christiana Hospital, Newark.

Mr. Aviles was born on March 27, 1959, in Puerto Rico, the son of Diony Aviles of Puerto Rico and the late Thomas Aviles.

He had worked in heating and air conditioning before becoming disabled. He enjoyed fishing and loved doing auto work.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Aviles is survived by three children, Yahira Aviles of Orlando, Fla., Jesus Aviles of Smyrna and Adalberto Aviles Jr. of Camden-Wyoming; three grandchildren; three sisters, Nancy Aviles of New York, Awilda Aviles and her husband, Ramon Vazques of Ohio and Paulina Aviles and Gorge Oliveras of Maryland; a special nephew, Fernando Del Pozo of Georgia; a special aunt, Zenaida Fontanez of Dover; a special cousin, Luis Rios of Camden-Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews.

Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery.

James S. ‘Pop Sam’ Barrineau

Funeral services for James S. “Pop Sam” Barrineau, 66, of Dover, formerly of Florence, S.C., were held Tuesday, April 24, in Emanuel Pentecostal Church of God, Camden. Mr. Barrineau died after a long illness Wednesday, April 18, at Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington.

Mr. Barrineau was born Sept. 4, 1940, in Kingstree, S.C., son of the late Henry and Pearl Elease Barrineau.

He attended public schools in South Carolina and began work as a swimming pool construction worker. Mr. Barrineau became known as “Big Guy,” and continued to construct and build swimming pools for both public and private owners.

He worked until a stroke in 1989 left him paralyzed on one side. He and his surviving wife moved to Dover in 1994 to be near their daughter.

Once settled in Delaware, “Big Guy” quickly adopted the name “Pop Sam” to all who came to know him.

Mr. Barrineau attended the Adult Day Program at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. His favorite part of the day began when he boarded the van and rode to surrounding areas to pick up his newly found friends. He enjoyed arts and crafts, activities and field trips planned by the staff daily.

His favorite pastime was recording TV shows on VHS cassettes while sitting on the side of the bed or in his favorite chair. Instead of popcorn, he would have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barrineau is preceded in death by his stepfather, Alexander McCray; five uncles; and five aunts.

He is survived by his wife, Pearline Barrineau; two sisters and their husbands, Maryann and Rufus Carmichael of Charleston, S.C. and Shirley and Allen Daniels of Florence, S.C.; 12 children, David and his wife, Sandra Mouzon, Andrew Jackson, Jimmy Dickerson and Belinda Dickerson and Emma Jean Ellis, all of Florence, Elease and her husband, Stanley McGill of Lancaster, Pa., Michele “Renee” Williams, James Lee, Sammy Lee, Christopher Barrineau and LeQuan Barrineau, all of Dover, and Jerry and his wife, Peggy Dickerson of Atlanta, Ga.; a devoted niece, Elishann Harrell of Dover; 32 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; an aunt, Sally Burgess of Sumter S.C.; an uncle, Rudolph Burgess of Florence; and a host of other family members and friends.

Interment was in Sunset Memorial Garden, Florence.

Florence E. Beall

Funeral services for Florence E. Beall, 77, of Dover, formerly of Cambridge, Md., were held Tuesday, April 24, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, Galena, Md. Mrs. Beall died Thursday, April 19, 2007, in her home.

Mrs. Beall was born April 5, 1930, in Laurel, Md., daughter of the late John and Florence Barnes Castle.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and earned the rank of corporal.

Mrs. Beall lived in Howard County, moved to Cambridge in 1980 and since September 2004 had lived in Dover. She was a member of the Women’s Marine Association.

She enjoyed dancing, quilting, knitting and traveling, but above all her family.

Mrs. Beall was preceded in death by two brothers, George Castle and Richard Castle; and two sisters, Marjorie Barton and Ethel Cushing.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard “Jerry” Beall; two daughters, Deborah “Gail” Latta of Oxford, N.C. and Amy Kathleen Griffith and her husband, Jim of Queen Anne, Md.; two sons and their wives, Andrew F. and Sue Beall of Columbia, and Jeffery P. and Karen Beall of Centreville, Md.; a brother, Jack Castle of Laurel; 10 grandchildren, Tammy Smith, Melissa Griffith, Daniel Smith, Billie Latta, William Griffith, Tyler Beall, Laura Johnson, Tommy Beall, Sonya Beall and Danny Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Burl and Ivy Latta.

Interment was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Gloria D. Breeding

Funeral services for Gloria D. Breeding, 59, of Frederica, were held Monday, April 23, in Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington. Mrs. Breeding died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, in her home surrounded by the family she loved immensely.

Mrs. Breeding was born in Easton, Md., daughter of Ethel Phillips Link of Milford and the late W. Allen Phillips.

She worked at various jobs over the years, but her main focus was being a homemaker. Her passion in life was being a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

In her spare time Mrs. Breeding enjoyed traveling and spoiling her grandchildren tremendously. She will be remembered as a kind and loving person and will be greatly missed by her close family and numerous friends.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Breeding is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Walter L. Breeding Jr.; two daughters and their husbands, Denise B. and H. Joshua Swain of Milford and Christine B. and Craig Jacobs of Boothwyn, Pa.; a brother, J. Richard A. Phillips of Milford; and her grandchildren, Madison P. Swain, Justin W. Swain and Claire L. Jacobs.

Interment was in Bloomery Methodist Church Cemetery, Smithville, Md.

Antwon Pierre Crowner

Funeral services for Antwon Pierre Crowner, 43, of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Dover, were held Saturday, April 14, in Fort Worth. Mr. Crowner died March 31, 2007, in Forth Worth.

Mr. Crowner was born March 31, 1964, in Dover, son of the late Rudolph and Catherine Crowner.

He was a graduate of Smyrna High School.

In 1992, his family moved to Fort Worth, where he became an active member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the male chorus and the Voices of Zion Choir Ministry.

Mr. Crowner retired from the Symga Corp., Arlington, Texas, after 12 years of employment.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Crowner Davis.

Mr. Crowner is survived by his wife, Clarett Crowner; his son, Tywron Thomas; and two daughters, Jaywoni and Jakia Thomas.

He also is survived by five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ronald and Omar Sudler of Clayton, Benjamin Crowner of Dover, Mark and Pamela Crowner of Harrisburg, Pa., Lionel and Debbie Crowner of Palm Coast, Fla., and Marvin Crowner of Baltimore.

In addition, Mr. Crowner is survived by four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Beverly Crowner Dickerson of Dover, Connie and Barbara Slater of Columbus, Ohio, Jacqueline and Robert Dougherty of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Cora and Ted Humphrey of Owings Mills, Md.; four grandchildren, Brielle Smith, Brenden Brooks, Brennen Brooks and Braylah Brooks; and a host of other relatives, friends and loved ones.

Interment was in the Skyvue Memorial Garden, Arlington.

Services were by Rev’s Funeral Parlor, Fort Worth.

Irene P. Davis

Funeral services for Irene P. Davis, 75, of Dover, were held Friday, April 20, in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. Mrs. Davis died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in her home.

Mrs. Davis was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Bellows Falls, Vt.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed writing on spiritual topics and was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God church in Dover.

Mrs. Davis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Liza Davis of Salisbury, Md.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debra Garrison, Sandra and Dave Mitten and Norene and Tim Mullaney, all of Dover; two sisters, Kay Perry of Salem, N.H., and Lorraine Thompson of Westminster, Vt.; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Interment was in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, west of Dover.

Terry T. Schmidt Dannemann

Terry T. Schmidt Dannemann, 81, of Dover, died Saturday, April 21, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Mrs. Dannemann was born in Przemysi, Poland and was the sole member of her family to survive the Holocaust.

She and her husband, Ernst, founded Dannemann Fabrics in 1949, which expanded to 16 stores from New York to northern Virginia.

Mrs. Dannemann was an active member and past president of the Delaware League of Women Voters.

She was also a member of Hadassah and actively supported numerous Jewish and other charitable causes.

Mrs. Dannemann graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1980 after working for the degree for more than 20 years.

She visited many classrooms in Delaware schools to talk about her Holocaust experiences.

Mrs. Dannemann is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ernst; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gene Dannemann and Gail and Eugene Tolpin; her grandchildren and their respective spouses, George and Lauren Dannemann, Ben Tolpin, Daniel and Laura Tolpin, Jeremy Dannemann and Leba Tolpin; her great-grandchildren, Elimelech and Michael; and her special friend, Ruth Warner Pagirsky, with whom she escaped the Holocaust.

Shiva was observed Monday, April 23 and Tuesday, April 24 in the homes of Gail and Gene Tolpin and Ernst Dannemann, respectively. Shiva also will be observed Wednesday, April 25, in the home of Gene Dannemann.

Interment was in the Jewish Community Cemetery, Foulk Road, Wilmington.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Dannemann’s name may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808; or to Chabad of Delaware, 1305 Grinnell Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
