Memorial services for Marjorie Louise Olson Pfeil, 89, of Dover, were held Friday, April 20, in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover. Mrs. Pfeil died Sunday, April 15, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mrs. Pfeil was born Dec. 6, 1917, in Bigelow Township, Minn., daughter of the late Marjorie Church and Emil Olaf Olson.
She married Dale Willard Pfeil on Nov. 22, 1938, in Worthington, Minn.; they farmed at Worthington until 1947, when they moved to Sleepy Eye, Minn., where they owned Pfeil’s Variety Store.
In 1960, the family moved to Billings, Mont., and in 1968 they retired to travel in their travel trailer and spend winters in Mesa, Ariz. A cherished memory of their travels was their motor home trip throughout New Zealand.
She dedicated her life to her family and loved ones. Her grandchildren will miss her chocolate chip cookies. Her sewing and embroidery work are treasures her family will share.
Mrs. Pfeil touched the lives of many and her family was blessed to have been loved as only a mother and grandmother can love.
During the past several years she looked forward to the spiritual strength and support she received from The Hour of Power Crystal Cathedral on Sunday mornings.
She moved to Dover in fall 2004.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, who died in October 2002; a brother; four sisters; and her sons-in-law, Frank DiMondi and Ward Swanser.
Mrs. Pfeil is survived by her children and their respective spouses, Judy Swanser of Billings, Mont., Jane DiMondi of Dover, Chuck and Pat Pfeil of Lake Okeechobee, Fla., and Detroit Lakes, Minn., Barbara and Robert Giovagnoni of Arnold, Md., and Sue and Glen Fisher of Dover.
She also is survived by her grandchildren and their respective spouses, Debbie Pfeil of Dover, Kole and Lynn Swanser of Billings, Lori and Tracy Peterson of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Troy Laffey of Longmont, Colo., John Giovagnoni of Crofton, Md., Valerie and Dave Bortz of Westminster, Md., and Stephanie Fisher of Dover.
In addition, Mrs. Pfeil is survived by her great-grandchildren, Dane Swanser and Gabe Swanser; her step-grandchildren and their respective spouses, William and Susan DiMondi, Sarah, Wil and Caitlin, Frank and Angela DiMondi of Dover, Gayle and Bill Putt, Michael, Amanda and Jarrett of Warrington, Va., Diane and John Seibold, Danielle, Natalie and Nicole Cadarette, Jesse and John Cody Seibold of Charleton, Mass., Robin and Wendy Fisher of Tennessee; and her sisters, Dorothy Hallstrom of Worthington, Minn., Ruth Whitesell of Prescott, Ariz., and Lillian Breul of Lancaster, Calif.

Levi S. Riehl
Levi S. Riehl, 60, of Chesapeake, Va., formerly of Dover, died after a valiant three-year battle against cancer Friday, March 23, 2007.
Mr. Riehl was born March 10, 1947, in Lancaster, Pa., son of Leah Stoltzfus Riehl and the late Jacob L. Riehl.
During his time in Dover, Mr. Riehl, with his former wife, opened the Auntie Anne’s franchise in the Dover Mall. While in Dover, he attended the Grace Presbyterian Church. He made many friends in Dover due to his work at the Mall.
A man who loved God deeply, he had a passion for helping the less fortunate, including using his carpentry skills on several missions trips to Mexico. He was the former pastor of Chestertown Trinity Assembly of God in Chestertown, Md.
Mr. Riehl also loved hunting and spending time at his brother’s cabin in Potter County, Pa., alone or with his brothers and other relatives. He will be deeply missed by those with whom he shared his life.
In addition to his father, Mr. Riehl was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Henry Yoder.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Riehl is survived by his wife of seven years, Dayna Riehl; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Jessica Riehl of Dover; his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tony Bourdeau of Dover; four grandchildren; and his stepchildren, Tyler and Britany.
He also is survived by four brothers and their wives, Eli B. and Ruth Ellen Riehl, Jacob L. and Elizabeth Riehl, Jonas S. and Emma Riehl and Menno and Marian Riehl; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Katie S. King, Sarah S. Riehl, Hannah S. and Phares Lapp, Lena S. Yoder and Mary Ann and Emanuel Esh; three aunts, many nieces and nephews and numerous extended family members.
A memorial service was held March 26 in Chesapeake.
Addie Scott
Funeral services for Addie Scott, 95, of Dover, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, in the John Wesley United Church, Milford Neck, where friends may call one hour before. Ms. Scott died Thursday, April 19, 2007, in Green Valley Pavilion, Smyrna.
Ms. Scott was born Feb. 15, 1912, in Brown's Neck, between Felton and Frederica, daughter of the late Noah and Mary Tressie Fitzgerald Scott.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death, by her siblings, Elsie, Bertha, Amanda, Amos, Mamie, Chester, Laura, Grace, John, William, Solomon and Pauline.
Ms. Scott is survived by a sister-in-law, Christina Scott of Denton, Md.; a godson, Trevor Admead of Phoenix, Ariz.; her nephew and caregiver, Samuel S. Scott Sr. of Barclay, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Mary Lu Shelton, 75, of Dover, were held Friday, April 20, in Calvary Baptist, Dover. Ms. Shelton died life April 16, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Ms. Shelton was born Jan. 15, 1932, to the late Pauline Cottrell and Deacon Nelson Simmons Sr. in Aliquippa, Pa.
She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Cheyney University, Cheyney, Pa. She also attended Ohio State University and Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Ms. Shelton worked for the Franklin County Welfare Department in Columbus, Ohio, for four years as a social worker.
She worked as a teacher in the Columbus public school system for three years.
Ms. Shelton moved to Hightstown, N.J., in 1970 and was employed for 25 years by the East Windsor Regional School District as a teacher, retiring in 1995.
She moved to Dover in 1995, where she united with the Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of the pastor’s aide and sanctuary choir. She also participated in summer school activities and Black History Month.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson Simmons Jr. and Fred Simmons.
Ms. Shelton is survived by one daughter, Michele Shelton-Kelley of Dover; two sons and one daughter-in-law; Reginald Shelton and Dana and Shelton, both of Dover; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Marilyn Simmons of Spring Hill, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Sheila Simmons of Washington D.C.; one sister, Bernice Peters of Englishtown, N.J.; two sisters-in-law, Carlene Simmons of Washington D.C., and Grace Simmons of Aliquippa, Pa.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Joseph H. Sudler, 83, of Dover, were held Saturday, April 21, in Calvary Baptist, Dover. Mr. Sudler died Friday, April 13, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Sudler was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Greenspring, son of the late Jacob and Clara Sudler. He was the fifth of eight children.
He received his early education in Delaware and furthered his education at various colleges and universities including Hampton, Penn State, Virginia State, Shippensburg University and Philadelphia College. He graduated from Delaware State College, now Delaware State University, in 1948. He joined the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and was a life member.
Mr. Sudler joined the Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He moved to Accomack, Va., where he taught school. From there he moved to Philadelphia in 1952 where he operated a trolley for the city. He became a parole officer in 1953 and retired as a parole supervisor in 1983. He and his family loved to travel and eventually visited 44 states and Canada.
He had the privilege of visiting the homes of several presidents including Roosevelt, Truman, Hoover, Washington and Andrew Jackson. He lived a very full and colorful life and touched the lives of many students and government officials. He rode the congressional train with congressman Bill Gray and had lunch at the White House.
Mr. Sudler joined Calvary Baptist Church in Dover after returning to Delaware. He enjoyed gospel music.
He was preceded in death in October 1992 by his wife, Idella Paynter Sudler, whom he had married in 1944; and by his brothers, Alfred, Frank, Wallace and Austin.
Mr. Sudler is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Jr. and Mae Sudler of Dover; a daughter, Sherylann Sudler of Dover; two grandsons, Joseph Sudler III of Dover and Randy Smith of Philadelphia; and two granddaughters, Adrienne Pyatt and Shemaria McKnight, both of Philadelphia.
He also is survived by eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marjarine Summers and Katherine Bleen, both of Smyrna and Necolial Turner William of New Castle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Arrangements were by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
Betty Jane Szelc, 47, of Dover, died Monday, April 16, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Ms. Szelc was born in Mount Holly, N.J., the daughter of James R. and Betty J. Gauntt Berry, now of Hainesport, N.J.
She lived in South Jersey for most of her life, and moved from Cape May, N.J., to Harrington in 2004, and then to Dover in 2005.
Ms. Szelc worked at ILC of Dover, Frederica, until her illness.
She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and a participant in the Wellness Community of Dover and People’s Place.
In her quieter moments, Ms. Szelc enjoyed the ocean and had a special fondness for dolphins and horses. She will be missed by those who knew and cared for her.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her significant other, Richard A. Danetz of Dover; a sister, Margaret Budden of Hainesport; and her niece, Carrie Ann Budden, and nephew, David M. Budden, both of Hainesport.
Arrangements are by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director Inc., Dover.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Levi W. Young
Funeral services for Levi W. Young, 76, were held Friday, April 20, in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover. Mr. Young died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in Westminster Village, Dover.
Mr. Young was born July 26, 1930, in Canterbury, the son of the late Levi Caldwell and Frances Young.
He grew up in Viola, where he received his education.
Mr. Young was self-employed for many years. He was an expert shade tree mechanic and ultimately received the nickname “Speed.”
He also loved his pets.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Anna Young; three children, Barbara White Samuel of Hermitage, Tenn., Carol Young-Hackett, and Cleo and Levi W. Young III, all of Dover; two sisters, Elsie Hicks and Helen Young, and a brother, John Young, all of Dover; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hensen, Betty Tramel Jesse of New York, and Gladys Virgos of Wilmington; two special cousins, Willie and Roman Alston of Coatsville, Pa.; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Interment was in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, west of Dover.
