Alice J. Archer, 50, of Felton, died at home Friday, Jan. 6, 2006.
Mrs. Archer was born Oct. 7, 1955, in Dover, daughter of the late Fred G. Sr. and Rachel Cox Wilson.
She had worked as a cashier for Thriftway and Wal-Mart.
Mrs. Archer is survived by her husband, David A. Archer; two sons, Timothy E. Archer of Felton and Scott D. Wilson of Milford; two daughters, Lori D. Wilson of Seaford and Jamie Lynn Wilson of Dover; two sisters, Deanne Quinn of Irving, Calif., and Carrie Arndt of Newport News, Va.; four brothers; and 14 grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Faries Funeral Directors Inc., Smyrna.
Blanche C. Briddell
Funeral services for Blanche C. Briddell, 81, of Dover, were held Friday, Jan. 6, in Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, Dover. Mrs. Briddell died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, in the Capitol Healthcare Services Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dover.
Mrs. Briddell was born Aug. 31, 1924, a Berlin, Md. native, daughter of the late Elijah and Eliza Purnell.
She was a happy person with a sweet spirit and enjoyed people and being a blessing to others whenever she could.
Mrs. Briddell was a loyal and active member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church in Dover, where her service included membership on the Steward Board as well as singing in the choir until her health prevented her from continuing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Briddell, who died in 1996.
She is survived by a sister, Roxie Purnell of Milford; a brother and sister-in-law, Crystal and Shirley Purnell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a devoted and dedicated niece who cared for her, Cheyenne Foreman; a foster son, the Rev. Joseph Austin; a foster daughter, Janice Austin; a goddaughter JoAnn Brown; two godsons, David Lewis Jr. and the Rev. Melvin Jackson; a cousin, Bertha Purnell; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church family, friends and several adopted children.

Janet A. Carey
Memorial services for Janet A. Carey, 68, of Berwyn, Pa., will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Christ Episcopal Church, 501 S. State St., Dover. Ms. Carey died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at her sister’s home in Leipsic.
Ms. Carey was born Sept. 13, 1937, in Dover, daughter of the late Henry F. and Agnes Black Carey.
Ms. Carey worked as an administrator of x-ray technicians and also taught at Temple and Cooper Hospitals. She taught for 10 years in the Philadelphia school system during the 1960s and 1970s.
She owned and operated a large size dress store in Paoli, Pa., First State Medical, a medical records archive, and a portable x-ray business, Portable Medical Imaging.
Ms. Carey also was the author of a book, X-Ray Procedures and Imaging.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Ms. Carey is survived by two brothers, Henry Carey of Dover and John Carey of Leipsic; two sisters, Agnes Heather and Mary Moore, both of Leipsic; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
Mildred Arleta Clayton
Mildred Arleta Clayton, 87, of Felton, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.
Mrs. Clayton was born March 14, 1918, in Castle, Okla., daughter of the late Ivan and Oma Clifton Wolfe.
She lived in Santa Rosa, Calif., for more than 60 years before moving to Felton eight years ago.
She enjoyed sewing and gardening, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Clayton loved her dogs, liked to go camping and enjoyed long rides in the car.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Chester Overstreet and Alvin Clayton; her sister, Galeta Harp; her brothers, Lee Wolfe, Truman Wolfe, Joe Wolfe and Orlan Wolfe; and her grandsons, Darrell Newman and Larry Newman.
Mrs. Clayton is survived by her daughter, Billie Shotwell, with whom she resided; her two sons and daughter-in-law, Louis and Mary Jane Overstreet of Felton, and James Overstreet of California; two sisters, Bethaline Myers of Tucson, Ariz., Bonnie Welburn of Oregon; daughter-in-law Mary Overstreet and her mother Violet Barnard; five grandsons, Brian Shotwell, Kevin Shotwell, Steve Newman, Ronnie Newman and Robbie Overstreet; and a host of nieces; nephews; great-grandchildren; friends and neighbors.
Services were private.
Memorial contributions in Mrs. Clayton’s name may be made to Delaware Hospice of Dover, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901, to whom her estate was left.

Faye M. Conner
Funeral services for Faye M. Conner, 66, of Dover, were held Saturday, Jan. 7, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, Dover. Mrs. Conner died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mrs. Conner was born Nov. 12, 1939, in Kennedyville, Md., daughter of the late George W. and Ada M. Johnston Kennedy.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, reading and most of all, loving and being with her family and grandchildren.
Mrs. Conner is survived by her husband of 40 years, Charles B. “CB” Conner Jr. of Dover; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan C. and Patrick Zolper of Smyrna, Stacy C. and David Kuklish of Rehoboth Beach, and Sandra F. Conner of Wyoming; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert W. and Jane Kennedy of Kennedyville; and three grandchildren, Jared, Payton and Owen Zolper.

Mary Edna Craven
Funeral services for Mary Edna Craven, 86, of Dover, formerly of Smyrna, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St. Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier. Mrs. Craven died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mrs. Craven was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Boston, daughter of the late Reginald and Annie Foley Bain.
She worked as an attendant for the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna for 12 years before retirement.
Mrs. Craven was a member of St. Polycarps Roman Catholic Church in Smyrna.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald M. Craven.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Paul D. and Sue Craven of Newark and Mark A. and Tonya Craven of Smyrna; two sisters, Muriel A. Piper of Pembroke, Mass., and June Bain of Quincy, Mass.; and a grandson, Caleb.
Funeral services for Gracie E. Custis, 78, of Dover, were held Saturday, Jan. 7, in Mount Zion Baptist Church. Ms. Custis died in the home of her niece, Laverne Cubbage, on Dec. 31, 2005.
Ms. Custis was born Feb. 11, 1927, in Exmore, Va., to the late Fred and Sarah Ayers.
She moved to Delaware in her early years of life. She worked for over 15 years at Latex Apparel. She also worked at Metalcraft Inc. Later, she returned back to Virginia to care for her mother.
Ms. Custis was an active member of Mount. Zion Baptist Church until her health failed her. She was a kind and loving person.
She is survived by a niece, Laverne Cubbage; several grandnieces, Nakeisha, Phillip, Jamaal, Shaun, Antwyne and Corinthia; three sisters-in-law, Julia, Elizabeth, Mary, all of Virginia; a special cousin, Elizabeth Davis of Dover; two devoted friends, Julia Simms and Mary Addison, both of Virginia; a very good friend, Anna Warren of Clayton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Emma Caroline Davis
Emma Caroline Davis, 74, of Hartly, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in Tennessee while visiting.
Mrs. Davis was born on March 6, 1931, in Chester, Pa., daughter of the late Lewis H. Urian and Emma Louise White.
She was a bookkeeper for Haulaway Trash Removal in Chester for over 20 years.
Mrs. Davis enjoyed fishing with her husband and loved to do crossword puzzles.
She was a member of the Modern Maturity Center, Dover.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, George Norman Davis; three daughters, Wendy J. Bernsky of Holladay, Tenn., Shelley L. Passwater of Claymont and Laurie A. Hilferty of Milton; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services were private and at the convenience of the family.
