Katherine Miles Pettyjohn

Funeral services for Katherine Miles Pettyjohn, 71, of Dover, were held Tuesday, Dec. 27, in Whatcoat Cemetery, Dover. Mrs. Pettyjohn died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Mrs. Pettyjohn was born Aug. 16, 1934, in Dover, daughter of the late James and Marie Miles.

She attended the local elementary and high school in the Dover area, and attended Union Baptist Church.

Mrs. Pettyjohn later moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she lived and worked for more than 50 years. After becoming ill, she returned to Dover in early 2005 to live with her family.

She enjoyed reading newspapers, putting puzzles together and riding with her sisters to visit family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Pettyjohn was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Pettyjohn Sr.; and a son, Louis Pettyjohn Jr.

She is survived by her granddaughter and her husband, Nikita and Boris Selioutsky of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-grandsons, David Selioutsky and Daniel Selioutsky, both of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Vergie Lewis of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Washington of Brooklyn; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Doreina Miles of Dover; two sisters, Mary Miles and Virginia Wright, both of Dover; four nieces, Antoinette Lake and Ivory Wright, both of Dover, Tina Miles of Baltimore and Barbara White of Hermitage, Tenn.; a special friend, Delores Peloso of Brooklyn; and a host of relatives and friends.

Arrangements were by Minus Funeral Home, Dover.

Sybil Jean Ratcliffe

Graveside memorial services for Sybil Jean Ratcliffe, 61, of Camden, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. Mrs. Ratcliffe died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, in her home, surrounded by her family and friends.

Mrs. Ratcliffe was born May 6, 1944, in Smith County, Va., daughter of the late Frank and Thelma Frye.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother for who family always came first. She enjoyed life and all it had to offer. Her hobbies were fishing, traveling and enjoying the people around her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Lucille Turnbaugh.

Mrs. Ratcliffe is survived by James 'Jimmy' Ratcliffe, her husband of 45 years; three sons and two daughters-in-law, James Turnbaugh of Sugar Grove, Va., James T. III and Tina Ratcliffe of Wyoming and Dwayne and Tanya Ratcliffe of Dover; and three daughters and their husbands, Donna and Tommy Eacho of Frederica, Brenda and Steven Boylan of Sandtown, and Sherry and John Reuben of Dover.

She also is survived by a brother, Ronald Frye of Troutdale, Va.; a sister, Peggy Thomas of Sugar Grove; 13 grandchildren, Amy Lynn Miller, Brandi Turnbaugh, Nikki Turnbaugh, Steven Boylan, Nicole Boylan, James Tyler Ratcliffe IV, Brittany Ratcliffe, Tiffany Ratcliffe, Michael Ratcliffe, Stephanie Reuben, Cathy Reuben, Dwayne Ratcliffe Jr. and Cloressia Ratcliffe; two step-grandchildren, Timmy and Nora; a host of nieces and nephews; and many loving friends, including a special devoted friend who stood beside her at all times, Gladys Jackson of Dover.

Arrangements were by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

Helene Ryan

Funeral services for Helene Ryan, 85, of Dover, will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Mrs. Ryan died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, in Westminster Village Nursing Home, Dover.

Mrs. Ryan was born July 28, 1920, daughter of the late Herman Gustuv and Elizabeth Carolyn Schulz. She moved to New York and became a U.S. citizen in 1951.

She worked as a beautician on Lexington Avenue in New York and on the SS United States. She lived and traveled around the world and lived in Levittown, Puerto Rico, for 25 years. She moved to Delaware in 1992.

Mrs. Ryan was a member of the German American Club and the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

She is survived by a nephew, Karl Schulz of Odessa; a niece, Sigrid Johnson of Dover; seven great-nieces and nephews, Suzy Mobley of Woodside, Richard Johnson of Felton, Denise Donovan of Boca Raton, Fla., Holly Johnson of Dover, Gary Johnson also of Dover, Brian Schulz of Newark and Dieter Schulz of Glasgow; and her great-grand-niece and -nephew Wayne Johnson and Jennifer Johnson, both of Woodside; many family members and friends in Germany and Puerto Rico; and a close friend, Ilsa Hammil.

Interment was private.

Jeannette Anoh 'Tickie' Steele

Memorial services for Jeannette Anoh Tickie Steele, 78, of Dover, will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, in John Wesley AME Church, 217 W. Division St., Dover. Mrs. Steele died after a long illness, Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Mrs. Steele was born March 31, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Clarence Jones Sr. and Anoh Harris-Jones.

She attended Franklin K. Lane public school in New York, and retired from the IBM Corp. after 30 years of dedicated service.

She moved to Dover in 1988 to be close to her only child and family. She enjoyed driving, an accomplishment she made at the age of 62. She also enjoyed spending time and doing special things with her 'greaters' (great-grandchildren). She was an avid card-player.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, William Jones, Clarence Jones Jr., Jarold Jones, Thomas Jones and Louis Jones; and seven sisters, Doristine Jones, Mary Jones, June Jones, Lillian Brown, Rosemarie Mebane, Catherine McKnight and Louise King.

Mrs. Steele is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Saundra R. and Charles Jr. Stevens of Felton; a granddaughter, Tracee-Joi Bragdon, and her husband, Jeffrey, of Dover; a grandson, Clifton Stevens of Felton; and three great-grandchildren, Cyra Curry-Stevens of Smyrna, and Jihad Bragdon and Jada Bragdon, both of Dover.

She also is survived by a sister, Bernice Sumner of Dover; two brothers, Aaron Jones of New Castle and Franklin Jones of Lincoln; three sisters-in-law, Sadie Jones of Charlotte, N.C., Katherine Jones of Washington, and Ann Jones of New Castle; a close friend of many years, Judy Catlin of Brooklyn; a goddaughter, Nieris Waller of Dover; two very special nieces, Coni Chambers of Milford and the Rev. Dr. Barbara Greene of Jamaica, N.Y.; two special cousins, Lenora Seaborn of Detroit, and Shirley Holloway of Dover; and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.

Arrangements were by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.

Nancy J. Daniels

Dover, Del. - Nancy J. Daniels, 77, of Milford, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Milford Memorial Hospital.

Born in Crisfield, Md., Mrs. Daniels was the daughter of Emma Horner Daugherty and the late Charles Daugherty.

She worked as a bookkeeper at Hammond Cadillac in Milford for several years. Prior to that she worked as the office manager in City Hall for the city of Milford for 37 years. She also worked part time as a bookkeeper at Yankee Clipper for more than 25 years until December 2009.

Mrs. Daniels loved to bowl, and was involved in with several leagues and received many accolades. She was a member and sat on the board of directors for the Lower Delaware Women's Bowling Association from 1978 to her death and had the distinction of being inducted into the organization's hall of fame in 1996. She also had the privilege of being inducted into the Delaware State Hall of Fame for Women Bowlers.

She was a member of the Chesapeake Travel League for many years where she served as secretary and was currently serving as treasurer.

Mrs. Daniels also was an avid Bingo player and a great collector of Hallmark Ornaments, Beanie Babies, Hummel's, hand-carved ducks and Longaberger baskets. She loved eating seafood, especially steamed crabs.

Milford was her home for the last 47 years, but Crisfield, Md., would remain her true home.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Jean Gerald.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 47 years, William N. Daniels; a sister, Charlene Kelley and her husband Don of Crisfield; a brother-in-law, Phil Gerald of Crisfield; two godchildren, Myria and Joshua Abraham of Milford; a special cousin, Charlotte Davis of Milford; a special friend, Michael Woikoski of Felton; and numerous family members.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Tawes Nursing Home Activities Fund, 201 Hall Highway, Crisfield, MD 21817.

Jean Holcomb Leftwich

Dover, Del. - Jean Holcomb Leftwich, 71, of Magnolia, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at home with her husband by her side.

Mrs. Leftwich was born March 16, 1939, in Philadelphia.

She was a proud Army wife and homemaker, and enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, flower arranging, cooking, oil painting, and taking walks on the beach at Rehoboth and Bethany beaches. She also was a member of the Dover Century Club and Delmarvelous Quilters.

Mrs. Leftwich is survived by her husband of 53 years, Arnold F. Leftwich of Magnolia; two cousins, Steve Marshall and his wife Kristy of Fairfax, Va., and David Marshall and his wife Karen of Apex, N.C.; and numerous friends in the Blue Hen Power Squadron and The Milford Community Band.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780c, New York, NY 10008-0780.

Ronald Paul Colbert II

Dover, Del. - Ronald Paul Colbert II, 45, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010.

Born Aug. 27, 1965, Mr. Colbert was the son of Ellen Barnes of Dover and the late Ronald P. Colbert.

He loved traveling, was an avid Earnhardt fan and had a wonderful sense of humor.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Colbert is survived by his wife, Gerri Colbert of Jacksonville; a son, Ronbal Paul Colbert III or Jacksonville; a daughter, Amber Colbert of Jacksonville; a brother, Christopher Colbert and his wife Kathy of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Liz, Sue and Denise Colbert, all of Dover; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Carolyn 'Teresa' Lardizzone

Dover, Del. - Carolyn 'Teresa' Lardizzone, 62, of Dover, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010.

Born in Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Lardizzone moved to Dover in 1983 and graduated from Wesley College where she received an associate's degree in paralegal services.

She was active in community affairs and had been a past senior vice commander of the DAVA Department of Delaware and a past unit commander of DAVA Unit No. 1. She also had been a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary at the Walter L. Fox Post No. 2 in Dover.

Mrs. Lardizzone enjoyed crocheting and was accomplished in her arts and crafts, winning several prizes at the Delaware State Fair.

She was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Marydel, Md., and will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Lardizzone is survived by her husband, Paul V. Lardizzone of Dover; her mother, Mary Louise Ledford of Atlanta; a son, Charles Edward Flynn of Atlanta; and two grandchildren Benjamin G. Flynn of Atlanta and Sean M. Flynn of Clifton Park, N.Y.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Suite 3400, Newark, DE 19713-2055; or to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
