Victoria Louise Livingood, 58
MILFORD - Victoria Louise Livingood of Milford died after a long battle with cancer Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in her home. She was 58.
Mrs. Livingood was born in Latrobe, Pa., the daughter of the late Owen Lester and Emily (Moser) Helfferich.
She was a 1964 graduate of West Virginia University where she received a BA in music education.
As an accomplished musician, she was the organist for the Reformation Lutheran Church in Milford for the past 19 years before becoming disabled in November, 2000. She was a piano teacher at the Delaware Music School in Milford, and also taught privately.
She enjoyed being a waitress at the Little Greek Boys restaurant in Lewes.
Mrs. Livingood was a member of the Reformation Lutheran Church and the Preceptor Alpha Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She is survived by a daughter, Dana Lynn Livingood Bergman of Montgomery Village, Md.; two sons, David T. Livingood of Kent, Wash. and Scott A. Livingood of Dover; a brother, Barry Helfferich of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Bonnie Bigo of Latrobe, Pa., and Cheryl Taylor of Louisville, Miss.; and two grandchildren, Reyna and Shun Livingood.
Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Ave., Milford.

Mary Louise Selick, 67
DOVER - Mary Louise Selick of Dover died as the result of a heart attack Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001. She was 67.
Mrs. Selick was born in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Torina
Mrs. Selick graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Johnstown, Pa. and had later received her BS in Nursing from Wilmington College.
She retired from Capital School District where she served at the Central Middle School and at the time of her death she was serving part-time at the Elizabeth W. Murphy School located in Dover. In addition, she had also served on the Child Placement Review Board, a position appointed by the governor, prior to her retirement.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Selich, in 1985.
She is survived by two daughters, Kate Selich of Glen Ridge, N.J. and Amy Selich-Basualdo of San Diego, Ca.; two sisters, Ann Sherbine of Johnstown, Pa. and Jo Arlene Klanchar of Johnstown, Pa.; and a grandson, Alexander J. Basualdo of San Diego, Calif.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso 1175 S. State St. Dover. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church Dover.
Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover.

Ronald C. Lynch, 65
MILLSBORO - Ronald C. Lynch of Millsboro died of cancer Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in his home. He was 65.
Mr. Lynch was born in Lewes, the son of the late James and Jennie Lynch.
He was a retired sheet-metal worker and guitarist.
He loved music and started playing the guitar at age 5. Later, he played backup music for Wanda Jackson and Reno and Smiley's Bluegrass Band and enjoyed playing for charities, music festivals and the enjoyment of others. Mr. Lynch was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men, Georgetown, and the Blackwater Fellowship Church, Frankford.
He was preceded by his wife, Dorothy, in 1994; and two sons, Ronald Jr. and Wayne.
He is survived by a son, Richard Lynch of Essex, England; two daughters, Nancy Carey of Millsboro and Sharon McClain of Willards, Md.; a sister, Charlotte Hawkins of Selbyville; two brothers, Mason Lynch of Folcroft, Pa., and Arthur Lynch of Selbyville; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Roxana Cemetery.

Jeffrey Dwight Shaffer, 40
GREENSBORO, Md. - Jeffrey Dwight Shaffer of Greensboro died of complications of adeno carcinoma Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in his home. He was 40.
Mr. Shaffer was born March 16, 1960, in Milford, Del., the son of George and Ennis Shaffer.
He was employed by the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local 5555, as a welder, fabricator and mechanic. He traveled and worked throughout much of the East Coast, building and repairing tanks. He worked several times in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, welding and repairing fishing vessels from around the world.
He married Patti Cherry Shaffer on July 15, 1995.
He loved motorcycle dirt drag racing and was a past East Coast dirt drag racing champion. He had his own motorcycle-repair business for several years outside of Greensboro, J&S Performance Cycle and Machine. A self-taught machinist, he could produce obsolete motorcycle parts and was the master Harley-Davidson mechanic of all the land. An outdoorsman, Jeff loved hunting, fishing, camping end hiking. He was a jokester and made friends wherever he went.
He was a member of the National Transient Lodge of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local 5555.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he is survived by two stepsons, John Bronson Bishop and Cody Abram Bishop, both of Greensboro; two brothers and their wives, Harold and Linda Shaffer of Tallahassee, Fla., and John and Kathy Shaffer of Greensboro; a sister and her husband, Marley and Pastor Chan Hubbard of Greensboro; five nieces and nephews, James B. Simmons Jr., Charles D. Shaffer, John Shaffer Jr., Heather Zawahry and Wade Myers; a grand-niece; and two grand-nephews.
A service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Greensboro Baptist Church, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery.

Rufus I. Adkins Jr., 74
DAGSBORO - Rufus I. Adkins Jr. of Dagsboro died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in his home. He was 74.
Mr. Adkins was born Aug. 15, 1926, son of the late Rufus I. Adkins Sr. and Linda Long Adkins.
He was a lifetime resident of Dagsboro.
He graduated from John M. Clayton High School in 1944.
Mr. Adkins served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He retired from Cargill in 1985.
Mr. Adkins was an active member of St. Martha's Episcopal Church, Maplewood Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, Bethany Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Megee Adkins; two sons, Lyndon Stewart Adkins of Camden and Dr. Prentiss Wayne Adkins and his wife, Nancy Mouer Adkins, of Frankford; two sisters, Kathryn A. Lecates of Frankford and Ida A. Hickman of Georgetown; three grandchildren, MM3 Prentiss Wayne Adkins Jr. of the U.S. Navy, Philip Gilbert Adkins of Philadelphia, and Elizabeth Ruth Adkins of Frankford.
A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Jan. 27 at St. Martha's Episcopal Church.
Burial will be private.

Kathleen J. Brown, 73
DOVER - Kathleen J. Brown of Dover died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 73.
Mrs. Brown was born July 8, 1927, in Berlin, Md., daughter of the late Everett Jones and Esther Rogers.
She enjoyed her life as a homemaker.
Mrs. Brown's hobbies included dancing, bird watching, going to the beach, penny poker, reading and activities with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Philip M. Watson; and a sister, Hilda Fox Todd.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Harley "Bud" Brown; three children, Dan Watson of Wyoming, Joan Odell of Baltimore and Patti Watson-Gordon of Rehoboth Beach; two stepchildren, William "Bill" Brown of Hartly and Lynn Chidester of Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Milton B. Kemp will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Walnut Street, Milford.

Elzie E. 'Junnie' Christy Jr., 52
SASSAFRAS, Md. - Elzie E. "Junnie" Christ Jr. of Sassafras died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Union Hospital, Elkton. He was 52.
Mr. Christy was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. On Nov. 20, 1969, in the An Lao Valley, as a machine gunner, he "positioned himself with complete disregard for his personal safety, engaged the enemy to protect the platoon and allow the withdrawal of the casualties until he himself was seriously wounded." His heroic actions earned him the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. The injuries left him disabled.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Naomi Brown Christy.
He is survived by his father, Elzie Christy Sr.; a son, Darius Christy of Middletown, Del.; a brother, Cornelius Christy of Sassafras; and five sisters, Marjorie Rowe and Elsie Christy, both of Sassafras, Geneva Young of Warwick, Gladys Brooks of Coleman, and Sandra Garnett of Newark, Del.
A service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in John Wesley United Methodist Church, Sassafras, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.

Cecil A. Marshall, 90
DOVER - Cecil A. Marshall of Dover died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 90.
Mr. Marshall was born in Mount Rainer, Md., son of the late Frances B. and Lily Heal Marshall.
He moved to Delaware with his family in 1915.
He was a 1929 graduate of Felton High School prior to the creation of the Lake Forest School District. He was a 1935 graduate of the University of Maryland - College Park and attended Columbus University's School of Public Health in New York.
Mr. Marshall retired July 1, 1978, as director of the Delaware State Bureau of Vital Records and Public Health, where he had worked since Dec. 1, 1935.
He had been a member of and held offices with several national organizations associated with vital statistics and public health.
After serving the state of Delaware for more than 42 years, upon his retirement, he received the Diamond State Award from then-Gov. Pierre S DuPont IV in recognition of his service to the state.
He is survived by a niece, Kathleen P. Shannon of Long Island, N.Y., and his acquired niece, Vicki Boyd of Dover, and her children Seth, Adam, Joel, and Rachel Boyd.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover, followed by the scattering of his cremains at Silver Lake, Dover.

Marian L. 'Chub' Parsons, 74
MILLSBORO - Marian L "Chub" Parsons of Millsboro, formerly of New Castle County, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She was 74.
Mrs. Parsons was born in Franklin Township, Pa., daughter of the late James B. and Helen Richardson Drummond.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Roland E. Parson Sr.; a son, Roland E. Parsons Jr. of Millsboro; two sisters, Dorothy Bellafore of Wilmington and Ruth Divincenzo of Millsboro; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Parsons and James A. Parsons, both of Wilmington.
Service will be 11:45 a.m. Monday at the Chapel of the Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Parkway, Minquadale, where friends may call at 11 a.m. The Rev. Robert A. Hudson will be officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Ronald LeRoy Rash, 63
GREENSBORO, Md. - Ronald LeRoy Rash of Greensboro died natural causes Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in his home. He was 63.
Mr. Rash was born Feb. 10, 1938, in Baltimore, son of late Wilson Woodrow and Leona H. Everett Rash.
He was a lifetime resident of this area.
Mr. Rash was a Centreville High School graduate, Class of 1956.
He served in the National Guard.
He was an investigator for the Maryland Public Defenders Office.
Mr Rash was a member of the Moose Lodge in Clayton, Del.
He is survived by a daughter, Melissa Jennings and her husband, James of Ridgely; three sons, Timothy Rash and Randall Rash, both of Preston, and John Dale Rash of Colorado, and three grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Greensboro Cemetery in Greensboro.

Charles M. Rayne, 74
DENTON, Md. - Charles M. Rayne of Denton died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del. He was 74.
Mr. Rayne was born in Bivalve, son of the late Herman F. Rayne and Myrtle Dunn Rayne.
He had recently moved to Denton from Federalsburg, where he had lived for many years.
He lived in the Salisbury area until he went into the U.S. Army where he served in the European Theater in World War II.
Mr. Rayne sold cars for several car dealerships in Greensboro, Denton, Federalsburg, and Easton for many years. He had also sold insurance for many years.
He wrote poetry and played the guitar. At one time, he had his own band called Country Melodies, which played throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Lewis "Butch" Bullock.
He is survived by his wife, Betty M. Rayne of Denton; a son, Donald Rayne of Dover, Del.; a daughter, Diane Hamilton of Elkton.; two stepsons, J. Richard Bullock of Denton and Robert P. Bullock of Federalsburg; two stepdaughters, Penny Nelson of Federalsburg and Deborah Geisel of Denton; a half-brother, H. Frank Rayne of Woodstock; a half-sister, Shirley Rayne of North East; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nine step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 South Second St., Denton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery in Concord.

Viola L. Schorah, 99
DAGSBORO - Viola L. Schorah of Dagsboro, formerly of Chincoteague, Va., died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in her home. She was 99.
Mrs. Schorah was born in Chincoteague, Va., daughter of the late Daniel J. and Emma Breasure Lewis.
She was a graduate of Johnson's Business College in Norfolk, Va. She then worked as a secretary for the Southern Railroad in Norfolk for several years.
Mrs. Schorah was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Dagsboro, The Sussex County and Dagsboro Women's Republican Clubs and the Georgetown Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. William F. Schorah, in 1970.
She is survived by a sister, Wilhelmina Mitchell, with whom she lived; two nieces, Betty Jane Mette and her husband, Howell of Camp Hill, Pa., and Nancy Rhyne and her husband, Jimmy of Raleigh, N.C.; two great nephews, Howell Mette Jr. of New York City and Daniel Mette and his wife, Mary Ann of Montclair, N.J.; five great nieces, Nancy Kellman and her husband, Barnett of Los Angeles, Emme Villaume and her husband, Bill of Pocomoke, Md., Nanette Rhyne of Wake Forest, N.C., Sandra Rhyne of Columbia, S.C. and Cindi Baker and her husband, Ernest of Atlanta.

James Erie Taylor, 82
WILMINGTON - James Erie Taylor died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 82.
Mr. Taylor was born in West Virginia.
He was a coal miner before moving to Delaware in 1954 to work at General Motors, where he retired in 1977.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Sue Taylor, and his son-in-law, Robert H. Short.
He is survived by five children, Mary Martin and her husband, Bob, Henry Taylor and Dorothy Hess and her husband, Larry, all of Bear; Linda Short of Townsend and Brenda French and her husband, Daryl of Newark,; a brother, G. Woodrow Taylor of Bear; six sisters, Effie Parag of Bear, Sadie O'Donnell and Shirley Beckner, both of New Castle, Ocie Watkins of Athens. W.Va., Beatrice Brown of Naples, Fla. and Mary Owens of Rocky Mount, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 9:45 a.m. Monday at Gracelawn Memorial Chapel, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, where friends may call at 9 a.m. The Rev. Frank Watkins of Athens, W.Va., nephew of the deceased, will be officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park.

Naomi G. Warren, 73
LEWES - Naomi G. Warren of Lewes died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 73.
Mrs. Warren was born in Harrisburg, Pa.
She was a graduate of Bucknell University.
Mrs. Warren was employed for 30 years as a mathematics teacher, first in the Lewes Special School District and after consolidation at Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes. In 1966, she was chosen Teacher of the Year for the Lewes School District.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Warren in 1971, who was a captain of the Delaware State Highway Patrol.
She is survived by a brother, Llewelyn Griffiths Sr. of Vernon, Conn.
Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
