Margaret E. Fountain, 95
CARNEYS POINT, N.J. - Margaret E. Fountain of Carneys Point, formerly of Seaford, Del., died Friday Dec. 6, 2002. She was 95.
Mrs. Fountain was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles F. Fountain, in 1964; her second husband, Thurman D. Fountain, in 1983; a son, Joseph J. Fountain, in 1989; a brother, Harry O'Connor; and a grandchild and one step-grandchild.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Dolores Fountain of Carney's Point; a stepson, Jerry Fountain of California; two stepdaughters, Carol Balderson of Ridgley, Md. and Cindy Jewell of South Dakota; a sister, Mary Cagno of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Stein Highway, Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Blades.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Linda K. Harris, 51
GEORGETOWN - Linda K. Harris of Georgetown, formerly of Farmington, W.Va., died suddenly of a heart attack Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 51.
Mrs. Harris was born May 6, 1951, in Washington, D.C.
She was the owner of a pet sitting business and worked as a volunteer EMT. After moving to Delaware approximately 10 years ago, she opened Almost Real Flower and Craft Shop on U.S. 9, Georgetown. She was a volunteer for the Cheer Center in Georgetown where she displayed her creations and also taught craft classes at various libraries and women's clubs in the area. She was a dedicated volunteer for Hospice of Georgetown. On the day of her death she donated and decorated two Christmas trees and four wreaths for the hospice Gala Festival of Lights held at Delaware Technical College at the Georgetown campus.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Milton T. Harris of Georgetown; a son, Glenn Beebe; a daughter, Casie Shaner; a grandson, Lindsay Layman; two granddaughters, Allison Shaner and Jessica Beebe, all of Farmington, W.Va.; her mother, Helen Parlett of Stevensville, Md.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Patrick and Elizabeth Parlett of Annapolis, Md., Joseph and Joyce Parlett of Johnson City, Tenn., Hamilton and Joann Parlett of Wye Mills, Md. and David and Mary Parlett of Stevensville, Md.; her best friends, Monika and Charles Burr and family of Georgetown; and many other family and friends.
Mrs. Harris did not wish to have a formal service. Her remains will be cremated. All family and friends are invited to an open house which will be held in her honor and in celebration of her life Tuesday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the family home in Georgetown, located at 22383 Lewes-Geogretown Highway (U.S. 9 east of Georgetown).

Jonathon Edward Vance 'Jev' Hawes, 16
MARYDEL, Md. - Jonathon Edward Vance "Jev" Hawes of Marydel died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in University of Maryland Shock Trauma, Baltimore. He was 16.
Jonathon was born Oct. 20, 1986, in Leesburg, Va., son of Keith Edward Hawes of Hamilton, Va. and Anita (Marcinkowski) Stephens and stepfather Thomas Lee Powell of Marydel.
Jonathon moved to this area three years ago from Sterling, Va.
He was a student of North Caroline High School.
He attended Faith Baptist Church in Smyrna, Del.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a paternal grandmother, Ruth Ellen Hawes of Purcellville, Va.; a great-grandmother, Mattie Lester of Glade Springs, Va.; a brother, Stephen Michael Hawes of Leesburg, Va.; two stepbrothers, Thomas Lee Powell Jr. "TJ" and Paul Jacob Powell, both of Marydel, Md.; a sister, Misty Lee Stephens of Leesburg, Va.; a stepsister, Stephanie Marie Powell of Frederica, Del.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A., Greensboro.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.

Oliva C. Jestice, 82
LAUREL - Oliva C. Jestice of Laurel died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 82.
Mrs. Jestice was born in Laurel, daughter of the late McCradey Whaley Sr. and Berdia Whaley.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Jestice was a member of the Broadcreek Homemakers Club, and attended Old School Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dale Jestice; a sister, Marie Higgins and a granddaughter, Hope Brittingham.
She is survived by her husband, Paul H. Jestice of Laurel; two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Charles Larrimore of Laurel and Deena and Randall Hitchens of Georgetown; a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Jestice of Laurel; two brothers, McCradey Whaley Jr. of Seaford and Ronnie Whaley of Laurel; two sisters, Hazel Brumbley of Laurel and Irene Sammons of Seaford; four grandchildren, Jason Jestice of Laurel, Sarah Prettyman of Laurel, Joshua Hitchens and Megan Hitchens, both of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Short Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel.
Burial will be private.
Frederick D. Martin, 88
HARRINGTON - Frederick D. Martin of Harrington died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, in his home. He was 88.
Mr. Martin was born in Youngsville, Pa., son of the late Frank and Christiana Martin.
He served in World War II in the U.S. Army and saw action in England, France, Luxemberg and Germany.
Mr. Martin was a farmer and raised broiler chickens and grew grain.
He enjoyed gardening and grew enough vegetables to feed the entire neighborhood.
Mr. Martin always had a smile on his face, and was willing to help anybody that needed help. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spoiling his grandkids.
Mr. Martin was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge Temple 9 of Milford, AARP, and the Harrington Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Martin of Harrington; a son, David J. Martin of Harrington; a daughter, Jean Marie Reid of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Marion Jackson of Youngsville, Pa.; grandchildren, Fred J. and Connie Martin of Harrington, Barbara Rost of New Castle, Ann Marie Anacay of Bear, Katherine Wright of Dover, and Thomas Duffey of Portland, Maine.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Pastor Luke Smith will officiate.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Peter Prus Jr., 80
MILFORD - Peter Prus Jr. of Milford died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, in his home. He was 80.
Mr. Prus was born Aug. 10, 1922, in Williamstown, N.J., son of the late Peter, Sr. and Anastasia Nellie Skoleki Prus. He was one of 12 children.
He was a truck driver for teamsters local 107 of Philadelphia for Funk Hauling for 17 years, retiring in 1977.
At the age of 15 he became a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and then enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in World War II in the 254th Combat Engineers Company B receiving an honorable discharge in March 1946.
While living in New Jersey, his memberships included the NRA, Cecil Fire Co., Williamstown Ambulance and Elmer Fire Co., and a Life Member of VFW Post 1616, Williamstown. After moving to Delaware 12 years ago, he became involved with the Milford Senior Patrol, Milford Senior Center, Modern Maturity Center in Dover and the American Legion Post 3 in Milford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Leon, Sylvia, Teresa and Pauline.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara A. Fulbrook; a son, Peter III and family of Port Republic, N.J.; a daughter, Lisa Krasowski and family of Williamstown; a daughter, Gerry Dilks and family of Williamstown; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Donna and family of Williamstown; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Stella Jann of Philadelphia, three brothers, Julian Prus, Andrew Prus and James Earl Prus, all of Williamstown; a sister, Midge Kennish of Philadelphia; two brothers, Stanley Prus and Jake Prus, both of Williamstown; three stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Richard and Timothy Conti of California and Jon and Patricia Conti of Franklinville, N.J.; eight step-grandchildren, and a step-great-grandchild.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Barry-Short funeral home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
Virginia Llewellyn Ashcroft, 87
CHRISTIANA, Pa., - Virginia Llewellyn Ashcroft of Christian, formerly of Milford, Del., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in the Brandywine Hospital in Caln Township. She was 87.
Mrs. Ashcroft was born in New Jersey.
She was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine, the Daughters of the Nile and Eastern Star. She was also a lifetime member of the South Bowers (Del.) Ladies Auxiliary and an honorary member of the Milford (Del.) Moose.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Ashcroft, in 1991.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Balson of West Grove and Sandra Marasco of Coatesville; and three grandchildren, Adria Balson, Katherine Balson and Sean Marasco.
Services and burial will be private.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the South Bowers Lady Auxiliary.

Susan B. Skweres, 82
DOVER - Susan B. Skweres of Dover died of natural causes Thursday, May 1, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 82.
Mrs. Skweres was born Oct. 25, 1921, in New York, N.Y.
She was a high school graduate.
Mrs. Skweres served in the U.S. Army Women's Army Corps, assigned to an Air Corps unit, during World War II.
She moved to Dover from Washington, D.C., in 1955. In Dover, she worked as a bookkeeper for Standard Electronics and for Davis and Butler.
Mrs. Skweres was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
She is survived by a son, James "Jim" Skweres of Dover; two daughters, Sally Skweres of Dover and Judy Torrey of Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren, James D. Skweres Jr. of Fort Lewis, Wash., and Julie Skweres of Richmond, Va.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Christ Episcopal Church, South State and Water streets, Dover. The Rev. Celeste Cox will officiate.

Rosemary Graham Windsor, 58
PERRYVILLE, Md. - Rosemary Graham Windsor of Perryville died of natural causes Saturday, May 3, 2003, in her home. She was 58.
Ms. Windsor was born in Salisbury, daughter of the late I. Rayner Graham and Theresa Webster Graham, who had lived in Deal Island.
She graduated from Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing. She continued her education at Wilmington College in Delaware, where she received her M.B.A. degree and was awarded the Gould Award for the highest academic achievement.
Ms. Windsor worked at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del., where she was director of nursing. At the end of her career, she worked in long-term-care nursing as director of nursing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, June Webster and Patricia Graham, both of whom had lived in Deal Island; and a brother, Ray Graham, who was killed in Korea.
She is survived by a daughter, Nicole Windsor, and Nicole's fiance, Jason Hopkins, both of Seaford; a very dear friend, Eileen Mahler of Perryville; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jerry and Sammi Graham of Bel Air and Jack and Pat Graham of Aiken, S.C.; a sister, Lil White, of Salisbury; six nieces, including three with whom she was raised, Kathy Webster of Deal Island, Rae Moran of Virginia Beach, Va., and Joan Bloodsworth of Mount Vernon, as well as Terri Barbour of North Carolina, Deneen Furness of Florida and Terah Bunch of South Carolina; and six nephews, Bill White of Fruitland, David Graham and Steve Graham, both of California, Jack Graham Jr., and Hal Graham, both of South Carolina, and Kyle Graham of Georgia.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
Burial will be in Wicomico Memorial Park.

Hazel Marshall Allen, 55
MILLSBORO - Hazel Marshall Allen of Millsboro died Thursday, May 3, 2001, in Green Valley Terrace, Millsboro. She was 55.
Ms. Allen was born March 12, 1946, in Whaleyville, Md., the daughter of Dorothy Kelly of Selbyville and the late Thomas Hall Jr.
She received her education at Flower Street Elementary and Worchester High School.
Ms. Allen worked at the Stockley Center in Georgetown as a custodian until her illness.
She was loved. She was a sister, mother and friend who was a very kind and giving person, if she could help a friend in need, she would. She loved to cook, write encouraging words, knit, go to a green field and crabbing.
Ms. Allen was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Millsboro under the leadership of Elder George Lofland.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Dondrell and Valnisha Marshall.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Valerie Marshall of Dagsboro; a grandson, PFC Kendrell Marshall of Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters, Rosalie Handy of Selbyvile and Mayola Waters and Diane Lillard both of Frankford; six brothers, Thomas Marshall of Philadelphia, Elwood Games of Silver Spring, Md., Charles Marshall of Dagsboro, Alvin Marshall of Redden, Marvin Marshall of Frankford, and Ervin Kelly of Rehoboth Beach; two brothers-in-law, Herman Waters and Charles Lillard both of Frankford; four sisters-in-law, Terri Marshall of Philadelphia, Peggy Vann Marshall of Dagsboro, Karen Marshall of Redden and Brenda Kelly of Rehoboth; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Angela Kuczma Birl, 84
OAK ORCHARD - Angela Kuczma Birl of Oak Orchard died, after a long illness, Friday, May 4, 2001, in Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes. She was 84.
Mrs. Birl was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late John and Kathrine Kuczma.
She was a resident of Oak Orchard for 56 years.
Mrs. Birl was the office manager for Meat and Poultry Workers Local 199 and the administrator of the union's Health and Welfare Fund, retiring in 1980.
She was the organizer of the Indian River Homemakers Club, serving as its first president, and was a charter member of the Indian River Fire Co. Auxiliary. She was secretary of the Sussex County Community Action Board and an organizer of the first day-care center at Dickerson AME Chapel in Millsboro. She also served as treasurer of the first low-income housing committee in Millsboro.
Mrs. Birl was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Millsboro for more than 30 years and, most recently, a member of All Saints' Episcopal Parish in Rehoboth Beach. She served on several committees in the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware and served on the Sussex County Unit and the state board of Church Women United.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1985; and a sister, Veronica McHugh, in March 2001.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine B. and Larry Stout of Wilmington; two sons and two daughters-in-law, John J. and Dianne Birl of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Jerry and Nancy Birl of Milford; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Kathryn Kuczma of Telford, Pa.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. George's Chapel in Angola.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 600 N. Du Pont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947; or to a favorite charity.

Renzy B. Massey, a.k.a. Ira Rogers, 71
GEORGETOWN - Renzy B. Massey, a.k.a. Ira Rogers, of Georgetown, and formerly of Milton, died Friday, May 4, 2001, in Harrison House, Georgetown. He was 71.
Mr. Massey was born in Seaford, the son of the late Ira and Nellie Massey Rogers
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Massey worked as a laborer for many years.
He is survived by his caregivers, Mary and George C. Wilson of Laurel; and several cousins.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Dorothy M. Russell, 85
REHOBOTH BEACH - Dorothy M. Russell of Rehoboth Beach died of heart failure Thursday, May 3, 2001, in Harbor Health Care in Lewes. She was 85.
Mrs. Russell was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard G. Russell, in 1993.
She is survived by a daughter, Connie R. Catts of Rehoboth Beach; a son, Ronald F. Russell of Rehoboth Beach; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
Service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Del. 24 and Long Neck Road, where friends may call one hour prior to service. The Rev. David Baker will officiate.
Burial will be in Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach.
Ethel Flora 'Flo' Waters, 99
DOVER - Ethel Flora "Flo" Waters of Dover died Monday, April 30, 2001, in Courtland Manor convalescent home near Dover. She was 99.
Mrs. Waters was born June 5, 1901, in Dover, the daughter of the late Charles and Rebecca Richardson of Dover.
She received her education in the Dover public school.
Mrs. Waters was a kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed traveling and visiting her out-of-town relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Waters; two sons, Earl Waters and Ernest V. Waters Sr.; and a grandson, Clifton Waters.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur W. and Laura M. Waters of Dover; two nieces, Mary E. Williams and Flossie Little both of Dover; three nephews, William H. Richardson and his wife, Maxine of Smyrna, John Henry Richardson of Wilmington and Leoverter Richardson and his wife, Loraine of Cincinnati, Ohio; her loving cousin and best friend, Martha Gibson; 16 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St. in Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be private.
Mary Alice Ball, 66
GEORGETOWN - Mary Alice Ball of Georgetown died Sunday, May 4, 2003, in her home. She was 66.
Mrs. Ball was born in Monroe County, Tenn., daughter of Reba Stammey Talent of Seaford and the late Walter B. Collins.
She moved to Delaware 46 years ago. She was a nurse's aide at the Seaford Retirement and Rehabilita-tion Center for 14 years, retiring in 1996.
She enjoyed her family and her pets.
Mrs. Ball was a member of the First Baptist Church in Georgetown.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Ball; and her stepfather, Frank Talent.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three brothers, Frank Talent and Terry Talent, both of Georgetown, and Johnny Talent of South Carolina; four sisters, Helen Taylor of Florida, Joann Wise of Georgetown, Jean Horseman of Seaford and Marie Talent of Milton; two nieces, Rebecca McKinney and Tanya Schnell; and numerous other nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in McColley's Cemetery, Redden, between Ellendale and Georgetown.
