Violette B. Wick, 95
SMYRNA - Violette B. Wick of Smyrna died of a stroke Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in her home. She was 95.
Mrs. Wick was born Oct. 2, 1907, in Preles, Switzerland, daughter of the late John and Adele Giauque Brunner. At the age of 14, she left her parents and two sisters to emigrate from Switzerland to New York.
Traveling with an aunt, she was hired by a couple on Long Island as a housekeeper. Soon she was asked instead to care for the four children. Later she met her husband and together they started a flower shop, using her talents as a floral designer the shop became a thriving business. She was one of the first women to combine a career with raising a family.
Retiring at the age of 65, Mrs. Wick turned to painting with oils and watercolors. Opening a studio in Smyrna, her paintings were displayed at local restaurants and she won many awards at area art shows. She will long be remembered by her family and friends as a loving, caring and gracious lady and will surely be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wick, in 1994.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Joan Wick Buck of Smyrna and Pauline Wick and Jack Blehart of Wyoming; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Patricia Wick of Smyrna and Frederick and Mary Wick of Millington, Md.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 5 p.m. Monday in the Smyrna Wesleyan Church, 433 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be private.

Jerome Cohen, 88
HENDERSON, Md. -Jerome Cohen of Henderson died of natural causes Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in his home. He was 88.
Mr. Cohen was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Baltimore, son of the late Simon and Jenny Snyder Cohen.
He graduated from Montauk High School in 1932.
Mr. Cohen was a supervisor for Tidewater Publishing for 21 years, retiring in 1977, and worked as a manager at Caroline Acres, Henderson.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bertha Cohen; two daughters, Sharon Jeffrey of Tennessee and Geraldine Benton of Hagerstown; a sister, Bell Matz of Baltimore; five grandchildren; and three friends, Elijah and Bess Sterling and Bob Lemon.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.

Allen Faison Jr., 49
BRIDGEVILLE - Allen Faison Jr. of Bridgeville died of heart failure Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 49.
Mr. Faison was born July 6, 1953, in Clinton, N.C.
He was a supervisor at Sea Watch in Milford.
Mr. Faison was a member of Greater Faith Church of God in Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Faison of Bridgeville; two sons, Anticules Faison of Richmond, Va., and Alan Lamer Faison of Bridgeville; a daughter, Altuya Faison of Bridgeville; three brothers, James Lee Wright of Hampton Va., Carlee Robinson of Indgo, N.C., and Alan Faison of Clinton; four sisters, Lillie Mae Wright, Christian Brunson, Carletha Faison and Sarah Thompson, all of Clinton; five grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Ulrica Faison of Slaughter Neck; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and in-laws.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Greater Faith Church of God in Christ in Coverdale Crossroads, near Bridgeville.
Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday in the church.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.

Irma Eloise Henry, 88
LAUREL - Irma Eloise Henry of Laurel died of heart failure Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in Country Rest Home, Greenwood. She was 88.
Ms. Henry was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Laurel, daughter of the late Curwin W. and Mary Alice Gordy Henry.
She was a graduate of Laurel High School, and lived most of her life in Laurel.
She was a registered nurse retiring in 1979 after 20 years of service from Deers Head State Hospital in Salisbury, Md.
Ms. Henry was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Seaford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Hilton Henry, in 1989.
Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday in Our Lady Of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Seaford, with a recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John Harrison will officiate.
Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Laurel.
Sarah Emory Hevalow, 87
DOVER - Sarah Emory Hevalow of Dover died of complications of a hip injury and Alzheimer's disease Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in the Capitol Nursing Center, Dover, with her daughter, Sallie Hevalow Seger, by her side. She was 87.
Mrs. Seger had cared for her mother for the past three years, until she fell and fractured her hip eight weeks ago.
Mrs. Hevalow was born Aug. 15, 1915, on the family farm on South Bowers Beach Road, near Frederica, daughter of the late Estella Grier Emory and Thomas B. Emory. She was a true Delaware native, her family having received a land grant in 1684 on the Murderkill River.
She was retired from the state of Delaware in 1965, after 30 years of service as senior secretary for the Dover Special School District. She also had worked for Hardesty Insurance Co. as a bookkeeper.
She enjoyed reading, her flowers and being a volunteer. As a child, she studied classical piano for 10 years and spent many evenings playing the piano for her daughter. Her favorite composer was Chopin. She enjoyed traveling, and especially loved the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Mrs. Hevalow was a life member of the Junior Board of Kent General Hospital, having served as treasurer and gift-buyer for more than 30 years. She also was a member of The Dover Century Club and the Colonel Haslet Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a Charter Member of the Dover Chapter of The Daughters of the American Colonist and held chapter, state and national positions. In 1971, at the urging of her husband, Ralph Hevalow, she organized the Dover Ki-Wives Club, the female branch of Kiwanis, where she served as president for many years and also on the Ki-Wives International Board. In 1991, she was honored as Ki-Wife of the Year by the International Board. She served on the United Methodist Church of the Peninsula Conference Commission on Archives and History from 1986 to 1992 for Barratt's Chapel. She was a longtime member of the Walter L. Fox Post 2 of the American Legion, Dover, and served as treasurer of the Palmer Home for many years. She also was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Dover, and a member of the Community Singers for many years, always working behind the scenes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years in 1971; two brothers, Grier Emory and Reynolds Emory; an infant sister, Mabel; and her beloved sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ellis Emory, in June 200. Even while fighting Alzheimer's disease, Mrs. Hevalow mourned for her dear "sister."
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son-in-law, Eddy Seger of Clayton; a granddaughter, Christina Seger and spouse Sean McLaughlin of Effort, Pa.; a great-granddaughter, Meghan Sarah McLaughlin; a niece, Joyce Emory Kucek of Dover, who also helped care for her; a nephew, Nelson Emory of Charleston, S.C.; great-nieces and great-nephews; extended family who helped with their friendship and love, the Ed Angwin family of Little Creek, Sigrid Mills and Jean Gruwell, both of Dover; and her companion of seven years, her teacup poodle, Ginger.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Ruth Priscilla Josephson, 84
SEAFORD - Ruth Priscilla Josephson of Seaford died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 84.
Mrs. Josephson was Feb. 7, 1918, in Gloucester, Maine, daughter of the late Charles H. Reed and Ruth H. Conant Reed.
Mrs. Josephson worked in the fishing industry for many years and also worked as a nurses aid for a time.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry William Josephson, in 1972; a brother, Roger C. Reed; and a sister, Cora Coull.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Astrid L. and George F. Swain of Bridgeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard H. and Ann Marie Josephson of Gloucester; a sister, Nancy Reed of Gloucester; a brother, James Reed of Gloucester; four grandchildren, Brock A. Swain and his wife, Michele A. Swain of Greenwood, Sean D. Swain and his wife Pamela S. Swain of Bridgeville and Eric W. Josephson and Kristin M. Josephson of Gloucester; four great-grandchildren, Sarah E. Swain, Zachary A. Swain, Victoria M. Swain, and Abigail R. Swain.

Dorothy Helen Minner of Odenton, formerly of Dover, Del., died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis. She was 79.
Carolyn L. Jester Steward, 77
DENTON, Md. - Carolyn L. Jester Steward of Denton died Saturday, May 3, 2003, in Buxton Health of Denton. She was 77.
Mrs. Steward was born in New York City, daughter of the late Herman Stonewall Essex and Susan Hard-esty Essex.
She was a housekeeper at the Caroline Nursing Home Inc. in Denton for 10 years, and a homemaker.
Mrs. Steward was a volunteer at the Diagnostic Center in Denton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, T. Nelson Jester, in 1987; and her second husband, Ralph E. Steward, in 2002; a son, Richard A. Jester; a brother, Robert Essex; and a sister, Dorothy Arnett.
She is survived by a daughter, Beverly A. Johnson of Denton; two sons, Steven T. Jester of Montgomery, Ala., and James Jester of Florence, Ky.; three brothers, Roland Essex of Newark, Del., Douglas Essex of Wilmington, Del., and Kenneth Essex of Stevensville: three sisters, Betty Sue Quillen of Hope Sound, Fla., Marion Ward of Princess Anne and Gloria Quillen of Wilmington; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 S. Second St. in Denton, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Francis E. Timmons, 83
MILLSBORO - Francis E. Timmons of Millsboro died Sunday, May 4, 2003, in the home of his son, Gary. He was 83.
Mr. Timmons was born in Milford, son of the late William Edward and Nellie B. Downes Timmons.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
Mr. Timmons was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7422 in Millsboro.
He is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Gary E. and Linda Timmons of Georgetown; a daughter, Donna Kay Timmons of Georgetown; a brother, Raymond Timmons of Milford; a sister, Pauline Sullivan of Milford; two step children, Harold Williams and Grace Reed; two grandchildren, Gary E. Timmons and Ginger Timmons; and a great-granddaughter, Catalina Timmons.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. J. Allen Miller will officiate.

Joseph Emory Butler, 76
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Joseph Emory Butler of Princess Anne and Niceville, Fla., and originally of Federalsburg, died, after a brief battle with cancer, Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. He was 76.
Mr. Butler was born Nov. 5, 1924, near Federalsburg, son of the late Bruce E. Butler and Hattie M. Carroll Butler.
He entered the U.S. Navy after high school, and made the Navy his career for 20 years, retiring as a chief petty officer. He received the American Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
After retiring from the Navy, Mr. Butler was employed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for 15 years in a supervisory position.
He had many hobbies, of which golf was a favorite. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Butler was a charter member of the Nassawongo Golf and Country Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer Butler, Franklin "Barney" Butler, Kenneth Butler and Bruce T. Butler; and a sister, Lucille B. Elliott, all formerly of Federalsburg.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Inez Webster Butler; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth W. Butler and Dee S. Butler of Allen, Joseph E. Butler and Rebecca Miller Butler of Princess Anne and Webster Butler of Florida; four grandchildren, Jamison Jesatko of Salisbury, Matthew Butler of Allen, Austin Butler of Princess Anne and Emily Butler of Princess Anne; one great-granddaughter, Madison B. Jesatko of Salisbury; a sister, Isabel B. Fleetwood of Seaford, Del.; and a brother, Bruce M. Butler of North Port, Fla.; a special nephew, Dr. Scott C. Fleetwood of Kansas City, Kan.; and several other nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Himan Funeral Home in Princess Anne, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Woodrow Wilson will officiate.

Daniel T. 'Danny' 'Captain Bones' Foley, 48
ODESSA - Daniel T. "Danny" "Captain Bones" Foley died of a brain aneurysm Friday, May 4, 2001, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark, surrounded by family and friends. In the hope that others can be helped, his family requested that he be a donor through the Gift of Life Program. He was 48.
Mr. Foley was born Aug. 1, 1952, son of the late Elizabeth "Lib" (Rawley) and G. Lawrence "Pop" Foley.
He was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 74 and owner/operator of Captain Bones Bait, Tackle & Hunting in Odessa.
An avid waterman and hunter, he supported the outdoor sports through his personal involvement and charitable donations to many sporting organizations,
As a youth, Mr. Foley was a member of the 1965 M.O.T. Little League state championship team. He returned to coach championship teams in the league. As an adult, he was supportive of the many activities of his children, including baseball, soccer, football, cheerleading, basketball, Middletown High School Sports Boosters, Salesianum baseball and Washington College baseball.
He was a loving husband and devoted father, and will be deeply and sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Steve Foley; and his mother-in-law, Peggy (Weaver) Naughton.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 22 years, Patricia "Patty" (Naughton) Foley; a son Sean Foley, and a daughter, Erin Foley, both of the family home; a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Fran Foley, and a nephew, Glen Foley, all of Odessa; a sister, Gail Mayer, and a niece and nephew, Tina Mayer and George Mayer, all of West Palm Beach, Fla., and another nephew, Ricky Reed of Frederica; his father-in-law, Pat Naughton; sisters-in-law, Ann Ossman, Kathy Netta and Nancy Shanahan, and brothers-in-law, Jim Naughton, Tom Naughton and Mike Naughton, and their spouses and children.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church (Price Hall), Cleaver Farm Road off Del. 299 in Middletown.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Church (Price Hall).

Naomi M. Hollinger, 86
GREENWOOD - Naomi M. Hollinger of Greenwood died, after a long illness, Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 86.
Mrs. Hollinger was born in Feb. 2, 1915, in Greensboro, Md., daughter of the late George Washington Faulkner and Laura Hutson Faulkner.
She had worked at the Swift Co. in Georgetown for many years.
Mrs. Hollinger was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to be outdoors in her garden, surrounded by the sunshine and fresh air.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Hollinger; and a daughter Ruth H. Kenton.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Robert Chalmers of Milford; seven grandchildren, Rhonda Martell of Milford, Herbert Kenton of Lewes, Regina Farnsworth of New Market, Md., Michelle Chalmers Phillips of Dover, Robert Chalmers III of Harrington, Laura Wedel of Dover, Michael S. Chalmers of Milford; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fleischauer Funeral Home, 48 W. Market St., Greenwood, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial service will be held in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.

Raymond E. Hignutt, 75
DENTON, Md. - Raymond E. Hignutt of Denton died of natural causes Saturday, May 5, 2001, in the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. He was 75.
Mr. Hignutt was born in Denton, son of the late Daniel E. Hignutt and Sadie A. Wooters Hignutt.
He had worked as a handyman all of his adult life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hignutt.
Mr. Hignutt is survived by a sister, Margaret Jane Hignutt of Denton, and a brother, Earl P. Hignutt, also of Denton,

Edna L. Clark Jackson, 96
MILLSBORO - Edna L. Clark Jackson of Millsboro died of natural causes Saturday, May 5, 2001, in her home. She was 96.
Mrs. Jackson was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late William B. and Louise Wright Clark.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Jackson was a lifelong member of Harmony United Methodist Church, Millsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Emery Jackson, in July 1962; and a daughter, Kathleen M. Wright, in 1995.
She is survived by four sons, Winfield W. Jackson, with whom she resided and who was her caretaker, Emery E. Jackson of Millsboro, the Rev. Carl L. Jackson of Harrington and Isaac B. Jackson of Dover; four daughters, Clarice V. Tomasso of Camden, N.J., Minerva E. Street of Mantua, N.J., Vera C. Morris of Lewes and Joan J. Martin of Washington, D.C.; 17 grandchildren; 21_great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Her son, the Rev. Carl L. Jackson, will officiate.

Charles Gordon Maxfield, 77
HARBESON - Charles Gordon Maxfield of Harbeson died of natural causes Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 77.
Mr. Maxfield was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WW II.
He retired in 1988 with more than 30 years' service as an electrician with Local 3, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
He and his wife had bred and raised champion Vizsla dogs for many years.
Mr. Maxfield was a 32nd-degree Mason with the Yonkers Lodge and a member and past president of the Conestoga Vizsla Kennel Club, which serves the mid-Atlantic Region. He also served as chairman of the National Event in 1994 and 1996 of the Vizsla Club of America.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years as of April 19, Lois Maxfield; two daughters, Carol McCue Conway of Millsboro and Leslie Ann Maxfield of Harbeson; a son, Gordon Edward Maxfield of Mount Kisco, N.Y.; two brothers, John Wallace Maxfield and Norman Robert Maxfield, both of Virginia; and four grandsons.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes.
