SEAFORD - Jay P. Moyer of Seaford died Thursday, Dec. 05, 2002, in his home. He was 63.
Mr. Moyer was a. U.S. Army veteran.
He retired from the DuPont plant in Seaford in 1992 after 33 years of services.
Mr. Moyer was a life member of the American Legion Post 6 in Seaford.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joanne Lowe Moyer; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Jay and Cindy Moyer of Laurel, Keith Riley and Beth Moyer of Laurel and Mark Steven Moyer of Delmar; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Joe Massey of Seaford and Becky and Dean Pettyjohn of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Mitchell and Haley Clayton Moyer and Benjamin and Brooks Pettyjohn; two sisters, Bonnie Litchford and Faye Marvel of Seaford.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday, in the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Instead of flowers the family suggests donations to Delaware Hospice Inc, 600 S. Du Pont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Jeannine Ann Palmateer, 68
GEORGETOWN - Jeannine Ann Palmateer of Georgetown died of heart failure Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She was 68.
Mrs. Palmateer was born April 4, 1934, in Wyoming, daughter of the late William Mumford and Anna Smith Mumford.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Ann Palmateer, in 1976.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Duane F. Palmateer; a daughter, Sharyn Ann Luzier of Millsboro; two sons, Duane F. Palmateer Jr., and Charles W. Palmateer, both of Georgetown; grandchildren, Micheal and Tara Lynn Parkhurst, Sean and Christopher and Freddie Palmateer, Colb Glen Luzler; and a great-grandson, Keith Roger Benton.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Long Neck chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in St. George's Episcopal Chapel Cemetery, Angola.

Theola Vivian Pierce, 89
TOWNSEND - Theola Vivian Pierce of Townsend died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 89.
Mrs. Pierce was born May 4, 1913, daughter of the late Alfred & Laura Caulk.
She received her early education from public school in Townsend.
She was married to the late John Wesley Pierce on April 20, 1927.
She retired from domestic and factory work.
Theola, affectionately known by all as "mom" was a devoted and loving mother not just to her children, but to all who came into contact with her. She had such a loving and gentle manner. Everyone who knew her experienced her warm, friendly and loving spirit. She had no respect of person - she loved everyone.
She loved to sew, crochet and embroidery. She truly loved the Lord and would wake early in the morning to pray and read her bible and watch her gospel shows. She especially loved playing her gospel music for her children and friends when they came to visit. The Lord was always first and foremost on her mind and she used every opportunity to praise him and encouraged others to know the Lord.
Mrs. Pierce served as one of the Mothers of the First United Church of Gospel, where she served as a member for 17 years. She also served as a missionary. God and her church were an important part of her life, which she spoke of daily. She loved her church family and adopted many of the members as her children.
She resided with her granddaughter, Corinthia A. Pierce, whom she raised from a child, along with Howard and Homer Pierce.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Beaulah Ringgold; a brother, Woody Caulk; and an adopted sister, Ardene Bolton.
In addition to her granddaughter, she is survived by her children, Bernard Pierce, Barbara Dessaint, Geraldine Weathersby, Betty Green, Arthur Pierce, Wayne Pierce and Carola Jackson; sons-in-law, Horace Green and Robert Jackson; daughters-in-law, Pauline Pierce and Diane Pierce; adopted son, Homer Boston; sisters, Naomi Williams, Helen Byard and Mary Yellowdy; brothers, Leon Caulk, Jacob Caulk, and James Caulk; adopted sister, Carrie Cale; 30 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other family and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First United Church of Gospel, McKee Road, Dover, where friends may call one earlier.

Bernard Page Brooks, 95
CLAYTON- Bernard Page Brooks of Clayton died of natural causes Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Courtland Manor Nursing Home, Dover. He was 95.
Mr. Brooks was born July 14, 1907, in Bowling Green, Va., son of the late Paige Hunter Brooks and Emma Clayton Brooks.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Brooks worked as a meat-cutter for 50 years before retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Blizzard Brooks, in 1983; a son, Richard Chapman, in 1989; and a daughter, Cecilia Merlo, in 1997.
He is survived by two sons, Bernard Brooks of Dover and William Payton of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Sandy Martin of Clayton; two sisters, Ruby Passwaters of Milton and Louise Beasley of Bowling Green; a daughter-in-law, Linda Chapman of Townsend; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Smyrna Wesleyan Church, 433 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Bessie L. Carmean, 75
LAUREL - Bessie L. Carmean of Laurel died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 75.
Mrs. Carmean was born in Laurel, daughter of the late Joseph and Ella Bailey.
Mrs. Carmean was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Wallace Carmean Sr.; two sons, Leon Wallace Carmean Jr. and Robert Carmean; two brothers, William Bailey and John Preston Bailey Sr.; and two sisters, Irene Hitch and Rebecca Caruso.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Donna Carmean of Frankford; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Kay and Gary Hearn of Laurel, Barbara Jean and Robert Dennis of Laurel, Brenda and Wayne English of Seaford and Nina Carmean of Laurel; two brothers, Nathan Bailey of Seaford and Warren Bailey of Laurel; four sisters, Barbara Parker of Laurel, Elizabeth Parker of Laurel, Josephine Howard of Seaford and Charlotte Hughes of Laurel; an aunt and uncle, William and Helen Collins of Virginia; 22 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 18 nieces; and 16 nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Short Funeral Home, 700 W. St., Laurel, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Laurel.

Richard P. Gelinas, 65
MARYDEL - Richard P. Gelinas of Marydel died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in his home. He was 65.
Mr. Gelinas was born July 6, 1937, in Hartford, Conn.
He worked as a power press operator for Bridgeport Tool and Die in Connecticut until 1979. For the past 23 years he had been on disability.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gretchen Gelinas, on Feb. 24, 1986; and his father, Charles Gelinas, on March 12, 2002.
He is survived by his aunt, Dorothy "Rosie" Hall of Windsor Locks, Conn.; a cousin, Joann Butler; and her husband, Charles, of Windsor Locks, Conn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel, Md.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Denton, Md.

Dorothy E. Gomeringer, 83
SMYRNA - Dorothy E. Gomeringer of Smyrna died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 83.
Mrs. Gomeringer was born May 5, 1919, near Philadelphia, the daughter of the late George and Ethel Krugler Oursler.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy R. Gomeringer; two sons, Robert L. Gomeringer of Valrico, Fla., and Kenneth W. Gomeringer of Jackson, Wyo; a daughter, Diane E. Organ of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a sister, "Sis" Clemo of San Diego; six grandchildren, Timothy W. Gomeringer of Kenton, Donna J. Kelley of Camden-Wyoming, Denise Workman of New Castle, James DaCosta of Claymont, Kenneth W. Gomeringer of Deepwater, N.J., and Dawn Gomeringer of Philadelphia; and 16 great-grandchildren.

GREENWOOD - Roslyn K. Missel of Greenwood died of congestive heart failure Thursday, May 3, 2001, in her home. She was 86.

She is survived by a daughter, Sherron E. Waller, of Seaford; a sister, Elayne Fitzgerald of Winter Garden, Fla.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Cynthia Lisa 'Cindy' Lisa Hooper
HILLSBORO, Md. - Cynthia Lisa "Cindy" Hooper of Hillsboro died of natural causes Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Memorial Hospital at Easton, Easton. She was 46.
Mrs. Hooper was born June 1, 1954, in Germany, daughter of Stanley Volens of Sykesville and the late Dolores Schultz Meler.
She was a homemaker, and had lived on the Eastern Shore of Maryland since the early 1980s, and in Hillsboro for about seven months.
She enjoyed writing poetry, with some of her work published.
Mrs. Hooper was a member of St. Benedict's and St. Elizabeth's Catholic curches, and the Shooters Choice Gun Club of Dover, Del.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Volens.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 19 years, Paul Hooper; a son, Andrew Paul Hooper of Hillsboro; two daughters, Tara Renee Diehl of Easton and Paula May Hooper of Hillsboro; two brothers, Jeff Volens of San Antonio and Paul Meler of Waldorf; a great-aunt, Regina Schultz of Bradshaw; two granddaughters, Brittany Marie Diehl and Marion Michelle Diehl, both of Easton.

Mary Flynn Ashley, 75
CENTREVILLE, Md. - Mary Flynn Ashley of Centreville died Monday, May 5, 2003, in her home. She was 75.
Mrs. Ashley was born May 3, 1928, in Easton, daughter of the late Charles Frank Flynn and Della Elizabeth Skinner Flynn.
She was a 1945 graduate of Easton High School.
In 1948, she married Thomas Henry Callahan III.
In 1974, she married John M. Ashley Jr. and they lived in Centreville until her death.
Mrs. Ashley was a member of the Queen Anne's County Garden Club.
In addition to her parents and her first husband, who died 1969, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Francis Flynn and a sister, Elizabeth Flynn.
In addition to her second husband, she is survived by two daughters, Patricia Callahan Bittner and Sarah Callahan Parks, both of Centreville; two sons, Thomas Henry Callahan IV of Centreville and Davidson F. Callahan of Easton; two stepsons, John M. Ashley III and Philip A. Ashley, both of Centreville; nine grandchildren, Kenneth Todd Bittner of Sudlersville, Lindsay Elizabeth Parks, Thomas Henry Callahan V, Christopher Ephraim Parks and Jessica Jane Callahan, all of Centreville and Erin Kelly Callahan and Alexis Lynn Callahan, both of Easton; two step-grandchildren, Philip Anthony Ashley Jr. and Eileen P. Ashley, both of Centerville; a great-granddaughter, Marissa Ashley Bittner of Sudlerville; and a devoted friend, Mary Ellen Smith of Centreville.

John Truitt 'Fat Back' Cannon, 47
LEWES - John T. "Fat Back" Cannon of Lewes departed this life Wednesday, April 30, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 47.
Mr. Cannon was born April 1, 1956, son of the late George and Martha Cannon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Cannon and a brother, Alfred Cannon.
He is survived by three sons, Jermaine Griffin of Ellendale, John Hodge of Frankford and Dana "DJ" Hodge of Dover; four daughters, Loretta Griffin, Crystal Griffin, Knisha Hodge and Sabrina Isler; three brothers, James Cannon and William Cannon, both of Georgetown and Martin Cannon of Lewes; three sisters, Mary King, whom he called "Mom," and Agnes Cannon, both of Georgetown and Madeline Purnell of Ellendale; two aunts, Barbara Bagwell of Ellendale and Marie Hood of Cool Spring; two special friends, Juanita Sturgis of Milford and Allen Ray Bowden of Lewes; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Roy Coleman, 74
MARYDEL, Md. - Roy Coleman of Marydel died Friday, May 2, 2003, in his home. He was 74.
Mr. Coleman was born in Pikeville, Ky., son of the late Miles Henderson Coleman and Zettie Blackburn Coleman.
He was an U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 until 1954.
He was an electronics engineer at the NASA Goodard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, retiring in 1988. He had lived in Marydel since 1990 coming from Brandywine.
Mr. Coleman was a member of the Ben Franklin 97 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge in Odenton and a member of the Cedars Forest 126 in Annapolis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Justin Michael Coleman and a brother, Clifford Coleman.
He is survived by a son, Alexander M. Coleman of Chincoteague, Va.; two sisters, Hazel Tibbs of Pikeville and Emma Burke of Tacarez, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services and burial will be private.

Marshall Edward 'Marsh' Gillespie, 61
GREENWOOD - Marshall Edward "Marsh" Gillespie died Monday, May 5, 2003, in his home surrounded by his family. He was 61.
Mr. Gillespie was born in Wilmington, son of the late Samuel and Gladys Gillespie.
He served in the Delaware National Guard during high school.
After high school, Mr. Gillespie joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam.
After serving his country proudly, Mr. Gillespie became an electronic engineer. He worked for Motorola for 17 years before he started his own business, Coastal Communications, for the past 16 years.
Mr. Gillespie loved the seashore. He liked the beaches and was fond of lighthouses. In his spare time, he liked to read and was a World War II buff.
He liked sports and enjoyed the Philadelphia teams in football and baseball. He will be remembered as a loving and kind husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn P. Gillespie of Greenwood; three sons, Marshall "Bud" Gillespie Jr. and Samuel "Skip" Gillespie II, both of Greenwood and Joseph Gillespie at home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jacquelynn and David Pierce of Milford and Rhonda Gillespie at home; a brother and a sister-in-law, Glenn and Muriel Gillespie of Dover; three grandchildren, Breanna, Teresa and Gianna Pierce, all of Milford, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Highway, Harrington.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, Harrington. The Rev. George Brubaker will officiate.

Mildred E. Hearn, 90
SALISBURY, Md. - Mildred E. Hearn of Salisbury, formerly of Lowes Crossroads, Del., died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in the Salisbury Nursing Home. She was 90.
Mrs. Hearn was born in Chicago, daughter of the late Clarence and Myrtle Wisner Truitt.
She was a receptionist for Dr. White in Milton, Del, for 12 years retiring in 1975.
Mrs. Hearn was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Lowes Crossroads.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Hearn in 1990.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Hearn of Sula, Mont., and Robert Hearn of Atlanta, Ga.; a very special friend and caregiver, Gilda Gunter of Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Carey's Cemetery, Millsboro, Del.

Edna A. Heite, 81
DOVER - Edna A. Heite of Dover died Saturday, May 3, 2003, in Westminster Health Center. She was 81.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel F. Heite, and had been a resident of Dover for most of her life.
She is survived by a son, Brett Heite of Brunswick, Ga.; a grandson, Nathan Heite of Brunswick; a brother, Lester Thompson of Costa Mesa, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden.

Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Mac R. Howarth, 85
DOVER - Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Mac R. Howarth of Dover died of cancer, after a long illness, Monday, May 5, 2003, in his home. He was 85.
Lt. Col. Howarth was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Philadelphia, son of the late Gertrude and Thomas Howarth.
He received his education in the Philadelphia public schools, graduating from Overbrook High School in 1935.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces in March of 1942 and later was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant aerial navigator.
Lt. Col. Howarth flew 30 missions with the 8th Air Force in England in 1944 (B-17 Group Heavy Bombardment), 35 missions in the B-26 in Korea in 1951 (night photographic reconnaissance) and performed duty as a navigation instructor in Air Force schools. Various other assignments included service in England, Korea, Japan, Hawaii and Saudi Arabia. He logged more than 10,000 flying hours, mainly in heavy transport, amassing 26 awards and decorations, including one Distinguished Flying Cross, seven Air Medals and one Purple Heart. His final assignment to Dover Air Force Base preceded retirement in July of 1968 as a lieutenant colonel master navigator.
His wide travels in the military convinced him that God had created a magnificent world and had put people into it to enjoy its marvels.
Accompanied by his beloved companion, Ingeborg Brengle, for 17 years, they visited many wonderful places, primarily those offering lovely beaches, including the Bahamas, Caribbean islands, both coasts of Mexico, Hawaii, Florida, New Jersey and Delaware beaches.
He was an avid sports fan, particularly of American football and a patron of live theater, concerts, art galleries, museums, etc. He will be remembered as a very good card player. He enjoyed his life immensely, although his last days were saddened by the December 1997 death of his companion.
Lt. Col. Howarth was a charter member and past president of the Dover Chapter of the Retired Officers Association and a founding member of the American Air Museum in Britain.
He is survived by a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, W. Marshall and Linda Northcott of Hayden, Calif.; a granddaughter, Celeste, of Hayden; and his ex-wife, Phyllis Howarth of Smyrna.
Services will be private.
