Irving Phillips Vincent, 85
SEAFORD - Irving Phillips Vincent of near Seaford died of pulmonary failure Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 85.
Mr. Vincent was born in Cambridge, Md., son of the late Robert Roy and Lilly Phillips Vincent.
He attended Washington College, Chestertown, Md., for two years.
Mr. Vincent was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was the supervisor of guards at the DuPont plant in Seaford, retiring in 1982 after working there since 1940, except for the war years.
Mr. Vincent was a member of St Luke's Episcopal Church, Seaford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Phelps Vincent, in January 1985; and a son, Robert Vincent.
He is survived by three sons, David S. Vincent and Bruce Vincent, both of Seaford, and Frank P. Vincent of Wilmington; three daughters, Jan V. Sinram of Bellevue, Neb., Linda Dalgard of Washington and Ellen V. Kirk of Duluth, Ga.; and nine grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Laura, Matt, Jordan, Ashley, Gabriel, Brent and Cassidy.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Front Street, Seaford. The Rev. Jeanne W. Kirby will officiate.
Burial will be in the churchyard.

Samuel Mack Wilson, 81
ABINGTON, Pa. - Samuel Mack Wilson of Abington, a retired professor from Temple University, died of heart failure Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, in Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington. He was 81.
Dr. Wilson was born in Newport, Tenn., son of the late Eliza Virgie Belle Murr and Ronald Earl Wilson.
He graduated in economics from Maryville College, Maryville, Tenn., where he played on the football and baseball teams and was captain of the wrestling team. He received his master of business administration degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and his doctor of philosophy degree from the Arts and Science School, University of Pennsylvania, with a concentration on organization and management. His dissertation topic was "The Development and Use of Work Measurement in the Department of Defense," which later was published and reproduced for wide dissemination throughout the Department of the Army.
Dr. Wilson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict when he worked for the Marine Corps commandant at headquarters. He developed and installed the Work Measurement Programs for the Marine Corps in eight different Marine Corps bases. He then worked on various professional-management programs and was management consultant for management engineering with the Air Force for many years. He retired in 1981 as a colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve. In Philadelphia, he served as chairman of the Officers' Procurement Planning Board of the Marine Corps of the Delaware Valley.
He taught 44 years at Temple University, retiring as professor emeritus in 1992. He served as professor of general and strategic management in the Department of General and Strategic Management in the School of Business and Management. He served as chairman of the department and associate dean of the School of Business Administration. He was listed in "Who's Who in America" and "World's Who's Who in Science." In 1980, he was the recipient of the Stauffer Award, Temple University's Outstanding Professor Award. He was twice president of the American Association of University Professors, in 1975 and 1980. He was president of the Faculty 25-Year Club and was chairman of numerous university committees. He served on the Academic Advising Board, as chairman of the Academic Discipline and Judicial committees, and on the Educational Programs and Policies Committee and the Personnel Committee of the Faculty Senate. He was a member of the Summer Commission in Student Governance and implemented the Student Government Organization for the School of Business. He was director of Student Affairs in the School of Business Administration and director of the Student Orientation Program. His research studies and writing cover many areas of management - management engineering, automation, manpower planning, performance standards and budgeting and management development.
He had many hobbies that included college sports, skiing with his family at Snowmass, Colo., sailing, boating and fishing, and traveling here and abroad. His greatest interest was gardening. He raised vegetables, as well as boxwood, azaleas, rhododendron and large dahlias, which were landscaped at his home. His gardens were featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Dr. Wilson was a member of Abington Presbyterian Church for 48 years, and had served as elder, deacon, trustee, treasurer and assistant treasurer and church school teacher, and on the Sanctuary Building Committee and Church Organ Selection Committee. He was a member of many professional organizations, including the Society for Advancement of Management. In 1994, he received the society's most distinguished award, the Taylor Key, based upon his pioneering work in management in the Marine Corps, the Air Force and as consultant to American corporations, his research and publications in management and his distinguished career as a management professor at Temple University. He was a member of the Employee Accounts Review Board, Bureau of Employment Security, in Harrisburg, the Production Managers Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia, and the Older Worker Committee, Health and Welfare. He was president of the Philadelphia Chapter of S.A.M. and vice president of the International Chapter of the society. He served on the National Editorial Board of the "Advanced Management Journal." He was the faculty adviser to the Student Chapters of S.A.M. in the School of Business at Temple University. He served on the Board of Philadelphia Presbytery Homes and Services and was a member of the foundation, was past president of the Maryville College Delaware Valley Alumni Association and was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, an honorary business society. He also was a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee of Montgomery County.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois Elisabeth Graf Wilson; a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Mayhew Wilson, M.D., and Dorothy Hay Barrus Wilson of Dover, Del.; two granddaughters, Elisabeth Hay Wilson and Mary Jaudon Wilson; a sister, Lucile Wilson Cureton of Newport; and a brother, Col. Gene Frederick Wilson of Blacksburg, Va.
Services will be 11 a.m. today in Abington Presbyterian Church, Old York and Susquehanna Roads, Abington, where family and friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Pittsgrove Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Daretown, N.J.

Elizabeth S. Biddle, 85
FELTON - Elizabeth S. Biddle of Felton died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hosptial, Dover. She was 85.
Mrs. Biddle was born in Sandtown, daughter of the late Eli and Effie Dill.
She retired from Latex in 1982 after 30 years of service. She also worked on the family farm beside her husband.
She was a very hard-working woman and always had a big garden. She canned just about all that she grew. She loved to cook and would start cooking two to three days before thrashing time so she could feed all the thrashers that came to help. She enjoyed flowers and had flowers growing everywhere. In her spare time she was an avid collector of porcelain dolls. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Her greatest pleasure was spoiling her grandchildren.
Mrs. Biddle attended Hughes Chapel Church until it closed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harry Biddle Sr.; and two step-children, Earl Biddle and Jean Magilona.
She is survived by three sons, Harry W. Biddle Jr., Robert L. Biddle and Leonard Bruce Biddle, all of Felton; four daughters, Irene S. Hickman of Dover, Barbara E. Caulk of Frederica, Viola Nicholas of Dover and Mary Conalo of Laurel; a sister, Eva Knox of Denton, Md.; a stepbrother, Herbert Hurd of Wyoming; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Highway, Harrington, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Clarence Voshell will officiate.

Helen Eckler 'Mom' Jarrett, 65
MIDDLETOWN - Helen Eckler "Mom" Jarrett of Middletown died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002. She was 65.
Ms. Jarrett was the daughter of the late Charlie and Martie Eckler.
In her youth she worked as a lifeguard, and while working at Silver Lake saved a life. She was very loved with a quick smile, and lived a very full life with many adventures.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William E. Bishop.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Cleon and Janet Eckler; three children, Sally Bishop Ellis, and her husband, Brian, Joyce Bishop-Rogers and Romie Bishop, and his wife, Shirley; seven grandchildren, Martha Harris, Romie Worsley, Beverly Gatewood, Johnnie Lynn Coleman, Helen Shaw, Eddie Bishop and Jack Bishop; 15 grandchildren; and many, many very dear friends and other family members.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.

Thurlow T. Mosebach, 85
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Thurlow T. Mosebach of Lewes, Del., died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in South Carolina. He was 85.
Mr. Mosebach was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Bethlehem, Pa.
He was a World War II veteran. serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater.
After his discharge he lived with his family in Allentown, Pa., and worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corp., from which he retired in 1979 after working 40 years in the sales department.
In 1979 he retired to Edgewater Estate in Lewes, where he resided until September 2002, when he moved to Columbia.
During his retirement, he was active in the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs of Delaware, and served as an elder in Westminster Presbyterian Church of Rehoboth Beach, Del. He volunteered as a transporter at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes and served on the board of directors of Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn H. Moseback of Columbia; a son, Rev. Dr. Theodore H. Moseback of E. Hartford, Conn.; a daughter, Roxanne M. Isaacs of Columbia; a brother, Marc Mosebach of Bethlehem; a sister, Berdine Mosebach of Bethlehem; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Westminster Presbyterian Church, Laurel Street and King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

Steven B. Nelson, 40
NEWARK - Steven B. Nelson of Newark, formerly of Seaford, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in his home. He was 40.
Mr. Nelson graduated from Seaford High School in 1981.
He previously had been employed at Penco in Seaford and was currently top salesman of the year for Robert Burton Co.
In his younger years, Mr. Nelson excelled at karate and won several trophies. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristin L. Nelson of Seaford; a grandson, Bailey Nelson of Seaford; his parents, James and Phyllis Nelson of Seaford; two brothers, Daniel J. Nelson of Auburn, Ga., and Jeffrey S. Nelson of Seaford; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Harlee Potter, 66
MILLVILLE - Harlee Potter of Millville, formerly of Baltimore, died of cancer Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, in his home. He was 66.
Mr. Potter was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army.
He was a retired employee of General Motors.
Mr. Potter was a member of Mason-Dixon VFW Post 7234 of Ocean View.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; two daughters, Kimberly and Stacey; a sister, Yvonne Nourse; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

William E. Clagett, 77
MILFORD - William E. Clagett of Milford, formerly of Millsboro and Baltimore, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, in Genesis Eldercare, Milford. He was 77.
Mr. Clagett was born in Baltimore, son of the late William Henry Emrick and Katherine (Miller) Clagett.
He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II, stationed at Ford Island Naval Air Station, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from 1943 to 1946, where he served as an aviation torpedo man's mate.
He worked as an air conditioning and refrigeration mechanical contractor for the Poole and Kent Co. for 25 years before retiring in 1987.
Mr. Clagett was an active member of the East Gate Presbyterian Church, Long Neck Road, a 32nd degree Mason, a Boumi Temple Shriner, founder of the 40 West Flying Club in Baltimore and a member of the Baltimore Ramblers Motorcycle Club, where he had served as president for six years.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn E. Clagett; two sons, Ralph Clagett of Essex, Md. and James "Jim" Clagett of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Joan Mollock of Severn, Md.; a sister, Margaret V. Merryman of Long Neck; nine grandsons, a granddaughter, and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriot's Way, Millsboro.

Leonard Cameron Davis, 53
WARRENTON, Va. - Leonard Cameron Davis of Warrenton died Thursday, May 8, 2003, in Medical College of Virginia Hospital, Richmond. He was 53.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Sue W. Davis; two daughters, Cami Sue Davis and Ashley Davis, both of Warrenton; a son, Kirtland Davis of Warrenton; his mother, June Davis of Hyattsville, Md.; his father and stepmother, Leonard and Marcia Davis of Dagsboro, Del.; two brothers, Sory Able Davis of Silver Springs, Md. and Dameron Ritchie Davis of Lantana, Fla.; and three step-brothers, Ralph, Ron and David Riggins of Maryland.

Earl Hugh Martin, 82
ELKTON, Md. - Earl Hugh Martin of Elkton died Thursday, May 1, 2003. He was 82.
Mr. Martin was born July 2, 1920, son of the late William and Catherine Martin.
He was retired from John Wanamaker's of Wilmington, Del.
He was an avid carpenter, and he also enjoyed fishing and crafts.
Mr. Martin was a member of the American Legion Post 15 in Elkton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Martin; a daughter, Ellen Martin; and two sisters and four brothers.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; six daughters, Eileen Martin Edelin, Diana Baczkowski, Judith Harding, Dorothy Goldman, Sue Barr and Janice Evans; five sons, Paul, Robert, Mike, Chris and Steve Martin; and loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Christian burial with full military honors was private.

Lloyd Clifton Mumford, 84
MILLSBORO - Lloyd Clifton Mumford of Millsboro died Saturday, May 10, 2003, in his home. He was 84.
Mr. Mumford was born near Millsboro, son of the late Clifton L. and Martha S. Hudson Mumford.
He was a retired farmer.
He served in the Army Air Force in World War II.
Mr. Mumford was a member of the Hickory Hill United Methodist Church in Millsboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Clifton Mumford.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen R. and Karen Mumford of Millsboro; a sister, Hilda Calhoun of Clarksville; a half-brother, Harry Hudson of Wildwood, N.J.; five grandchildren, Teresa and Todd Mumford, Katrina Mears and Jon and Nicki Mumford; and four great grandchildren, Lance, Trey, Myron and Sami.

William R. 'Bob' Nagle, 80
DOVER - William R. 'Bob' Nagle of Dover died Friday, May 9, 2003, in Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 80.
Mr. Nagle was born Feb. 8, 1923 in Wilmington, son of the late William F. and Mary Madelyn Nagle.
Following service in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, he was self-employed as a television repairman in the Wilmington area. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Prime Hook Beach in 1981, where they spent 14 happy years, then to Dover nine years ago.
He is remembered by his family as a kind and loving man, humanitarian and ahead of his time. He was known as a man who loved a good bargain.
He was an avid reader, and loved animals, especially his border collie, April.
Mr. Nagle was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Betty Nagle; four sons, John, Patrick, Michael, and William, all of Wilmington; three daughters, Betsy Archer of New Castle, Deborah Puccini of Rochester, N.Y. and Mary Bader of Wilmington; a sister, Loretta Anthony of Arizona; 25 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be noon Friday in St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 425 N. DuPont Highway, Dover.
Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Sheridan Wayne Prue Sr., 81
LAUREL - Sheridan Wayne Prue Sr. of Laurel died Friday, May 9, 2003, in his home. He was 81.
Mr. Prue was born Oct. 12, 1921 in Coventry, Vt., son of the late Ozias Earl and Pearl Barry Prue.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
He was a dairy farmer in his younger years. Later, he was a truck driver and delivered missiles for the government. His logging business brought him to Delmarva in the late '70s. Upon retiring, he opened a hardware store at Bargain Bill's Flea Market where he was well known as the "Handle Man". He was a gifted storyteller and loved by many children and adults who stopped in his store.
Mr. Prue was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Ann Prue; a son, James Barry Prue; and a sister, Shirley Prue.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dora Benway Prue; seven sons, Jerry Wayne Prue of Newport, Vt., Larry Ray Prue of Kenbridge, Va., Sheridan Wayne Prue Jr. of Preston, Md., Russell Ozias Prue of Kenbridge, Ira Allen Prue of Preston, Nathan Hugh Prue of Laurel and Neal Angus Prue of Sharptown, Md.; four daughters, Terry Lou Wright of Laurel, Holly L. Wilson of Boydton, Va. Susan M. Osborn of Victoria, Va. and Myla J. Hubbard of Laurel; two brothers, George W. and Reginal Prue; 31 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret 'Rita' Eileen Taylor, 65
CAMDEN - Margaret "Rita" Eileen Taylor of Camden lost her 13-year battle with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) Friday, May 9, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 65.
Mrs. Taylor was born Jan. 26, 1938 to Kathleen Brophy Parkinson of Roskelton, Ireland and the late Joseph Parkinson. She was raised in Southend-on-Sea, England.
She married Rick Taylor on Aug. 19, 1961. She followed him throughout his Air Force career to bases in Texas, Japan, Louisiana, California, England and Delaware.
She worked many jobs, including at WKEN Radio and at the Social Security Administration in Dover from 1979 until her retirement in November 1995.
Mrs. Taylor enjoyed reading, traveling, eating dessert and spending time with her family, close friends and her dog, China.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Kiah Taylor.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Rick, of Camden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Marc Alei of Sacramento, Calif. and Donna and Frank Magana of Layton, Utah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Jeanne Taylor of Laurel and Kiah and Charlene Taylor of Dover; a sister, Mary Phelan; four brothers, Patrick, Martin, Edward and John Parkinson, all of County Laois, Ireland; six grandchildren, Jayson and Bryan Magana, Heather, Richard and Andrew Taylor and Ashley Graham; and a lifelong friend and companion, Nell Banks.

Dolores Pumaren 'Lily' Buendia, 61
HARRINGTON - Dolores Pumaren "Lily" Buendia of Harrington died Friday, May 11, 2001, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 61.
Mrs. Buendia completed high school at Assumpton College. After high school she graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of St. Thomas in the Philippines. She then completed her master's in business administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.
Before her illness, she managed her husband's doctor's office. Prior to that she was the senior cost accountant for Merck Inc. in New Jersey.
Mrs. Buendia was a faithful and devoted member of Saint Bernadette Church in Harrington, where she taught CCD for many years.
Her favorite hobbies included being a free-lance journalist and reading. She was a very special individual who touched many lives, especially her family. She will be sadly missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Celso S. and Aurora Pumaren.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Zosimo A. Buendia of Harrington; a sister, Carmen P. Vallejo of Hillsborough, N.J.; and a brother, Enrico Pumaren of Hillsborough.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church in Harrington, with a small rosary remembrance service at 8 p.m.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Dover.
Australia Collins, 77
MILTON - Australia Collins of Milton died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Green Valley Terrace in Millsboro. He was 77.
Mr. Collins was born in Stockton, Md.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a chicken catcher for Townsend's Inc., in Millsboro for 25 years, retiring in 1993.
Mr. Collins was a member of St. John's A.M.E. Church in Bishopville, Md.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Estella Collins, who raised him; and a son, Australia Collins Jr., in 1957.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley M. Brown Collins of Millsboro; two sons, James E. Collins of Millsboro and Martin H. Smith of Smyrna; four daughters, Loretta M. Matthews, and her husband, Robert, and Gwenda M. Smith of Camden, N.J., Rachel A. Bivens, and her husband, Calvin, of Roxana, and Sarah E. Cannon, and her husband, Bishop Bruce L. Cannon, of Harrington; a brother-in-law, Willie Banks of Harbeson; a sister-in-law, Thelma M. Brown of New York; a foster brother and sister-in-law, Ross and Edith Rogers of Frankford; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
