Cathy Mae Price Massey, 47
SMYRNA - Cathy Mae Price Massey of Smyrna died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 47.
Mrs. Massey was born Feb. 9, 1955, in Milford, daughter of Letha M. Price of Milton and the late Aron Price Sr.
She received her early education at Milton Junior High School and graduated from Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes.
She worked for several years as a certified nursing assistant at the Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill and for Generations Home Care.
On May 7, 1988, she married Wayne M. Massey, who lovingly referred to her as his "Baby Doll."
Mrs. Massey was a member of the First Congregational Church, Milton. She became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, PHA, Hattie S. Blackwell Chapter 16 in Dover in 1992 and served in a number of appointed positions - star points and marshal - and worked with the Youth of Felecitaires.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 14 years, Wayne M. Massey of Smyrna; her daughter, Paulette Hopkins and her husband, Lorenzo of Camden; two sons, Wayne Christopher Massey and Brian Woodbury, both of Philadelphia; five brothers, Charles Cave Sr. and his wife, Mary, Teddy Price and his wife, Gwen of Georgetown, Sammie Price Sr. and his friend, Wanda Norwood of Rehoboth Beach, Aron Price Jr. and his friend, Yvonne of Bridgeville and Alfonzo Price of Milton; two sisters, Janie Price-Clay and her husband, Kirk of Georgetown and Kymisha Price of Milton; three brothers-in-law, Zachary R. Massey of Georgetown, Dwight M. Massey of Marlton, N.J., and Vernard P. Massey and his wife, Letitia of Killeen, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Bernadette T. Georgia and her husband, Charles, Agnes D. Massey of Philadelphia and Vernell Massey Lang of Dover; seven grandchildren, Jordan, Keyon, Christopher, Kye, Shayaira, Brianna and Olivia; her great-grandmother, Inez Price of Barnwell, S.C.; aunts, Vorise Cave of Allendale, S.C., Rosa Scott and her husband, Isom of Salisbury, Md., Marie Spivey and her husband, Arzell Sr., Emma Dukes and her husband, Henry of Milton and Minnie Brooks and her husband, Leon of Baltimore; uncles, Angus Price and his friend, Yvonne of Salisbury, Jerry Price and his wife, Viola of Eden, Md., and Johnny Price and his friend, Stella of Delray Beach, Fla.; a special niece, Alfair Price; five special friends, Ernestine Stokes, Barbara Duffy, Connie Hall, Barbara Nixon and Debra Forbes; a great-niece; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted extended family and friends.
Friends may call from 5-7 tonight in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Slaughter Neck, where an Eastern Star service will be held.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the church, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the First Congregation Church Cemetery, Milton.

Norman H. Cannon, 83
WILMINGTON - Norman H. Cannon of Wilmington, formerly of Greenwood, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, in Manor Care, Wilmington. He was 83.
Mr. Cannon was born July 7, 1919, son of the late Philip A. Cannon and Nora (Willey) Cannon.
He was a dedicated family man who was respected for his integrity, his work ethic, and the way he delighted others with his knowledge and accomplishments.
Mr. Cannon was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired lieutenant colonel with the Delaware Army National Guard. He served as a Delaware civil defense officer and was a life member and former finance officer of the American Legion Post 26, Bridgeville, and was an active member from when the post was formed in 1946 until 2002 when the post merged with the Post 6 of Seaford.
He was the former co-owner of Sussex Nursery, Bridgeville; owned and operated Apex Lawn Mower Service; and in later years was sole proprietor of Cannon Plants, Greenwood.
His accomplishments in the horticultural arena include having been inducted into the hall of fame for lifetime achievements with the Delaware Nurserymen's Association; founding member and member of the executive board of directors of the Delaware Nurserymen's Association, member of the American Holly Society, active member of other horticultural and nurseryman's associations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. He had also published research in the "American Nurseryman's Journal" and regional publications and was a columnist for "The Sussex Gardener," which appeared in the former "Sussex Guide," as well as being an instructor at the Delaware Technical & Community College, Georgetown, where he taught "Horticulture for the Homeowner" Mr. Cannon was also noted as a propagation specialist of ornamental hollies with three prized varieties registered at the National Arboretum, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Cannon had previously served as the administrative officer of the Bridgeville Rifle Range. and officer of the Bridgeville Alumni Association. He was a founding member and longtime treasurer of the Bridgeville Breakfast Club, a community service organization serving the needy, aged and infirmed; and he also served as the Cannon family historian/genealogist and had compiled the family history into print going back to before 1688 and coordinated and updated the records for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Philip A. Cannon III.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Veronica (Kailing) Cannon of Greenwood; eight children, Philip A. Cannon II of Oak Lawn, Ill.; Ann M. Cannon of East Windsor, N.J., Mary E. Cannon of Bear, Thomas E. Cannon, Patrick J. Cannon, and Jeffrey A. Cannon, all of Greenwood, Nora C. Evans of Wilmington and Kenneth K. Cannon of Milford; a brother and sister-in-law, Virgil A. and Emily Cannon of Bridgeville; a sister, Elnora Whiteley of Seaford; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Barbara L. Chandler, 72
MILLSBORO - Barbara L. Chandler of Millsboro died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 72.
Mrs. Chandler was born in Selbyville, daughter of the late Horace and Louise Derrickson Lekytes.
She was a member and former Sunday School teacher at the Sound United Methodist Church, Williamsville.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William E. Chandler Sr.; three sons, William E. Chandler Jr., Terry A. Chandler and Craig D. Chandler, all of Millsboro; a brother, Horace Lekytes of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Faye Hnosko of Lewes; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Redmen's Cemetery, Selbyville.
Thelma Fisher, 43
DOVER - Thelma Elizabeth Fisher of Dover died of natural causes Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, in Green Valley Nursing Home. She was 43.
Ms. Fisher was born June 26, 1959, daughter of Frances Fisher of Dover and the late Carlas Drain.
Ms. Fisher loved her family and friends.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an aunt, Thelma Elizabeth Fisher and her great aunt Libby Prattis.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her two daughters, Shana Fisher of Greensboro, Md., and Latonea Fisher of Dover; three sisters, Jacqueline Fisher, Frances Fisher and Martha Fisher, all of Dover; a brother, Edward Fisher of Dover; two grandchildren, Tyresse Fisher Baynard and Robbieona Fisher of Dover; two nieces, Brittley Fisher and Miranda Thomas; three nephews, Richard Armfield, Dylan Fisher and Jamera Fisher, all of Dover; her grandmother, Elizabeth Sullivan of Dover; an aunt, Shirley Tribbit of Wilmington; three uncles, Leon Fisher, Frankie Bridge and Raymond Fisher and his wife, Dorothy, all of Dover; a great aunt, Lottie Kellson of Dover; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Emory E. Frantum, 71
EASTON, Md. - Emory E. Frantum of Easton died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in his home. He was 71.
Mr. Frantum was born Aug. 16, 1931, in Arnold, son of the late Frank Ellsworth Frantum and Laura Cecelia Arnold.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving his country from 1949 until 1957, including during the Korean War.
Mr. Frantum was an electrician for E.I. DuPont Co. in Seaford, Del.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Maude Barnes and Clara Keysor; and eight brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Anna B. Frantum; three children, Master Sgt. Robert "Robby" Robinson of Hobert Air Force Base in Pensacola, Fla., Tabatha "Tammy" Boyles of Preston and Jennifer Varady of Labelle, Fla.; six grandchildren, Michael Fitzgerald, Shelby Fitzgerald, Lacy Fitzgerald, Nicholas Varady, Torri Robinson and Angel Robinson; a brother, William Frantum of Annapolis; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Harris, 98
DELAWARE CITY - Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Harris of Delaware City died of natural causes Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in Gov. Bacon Health Center, Delaware City. She was 98.
Ms. Harris was born Aug. 3, 1904, in Star Hill, near Dover, daughter of the late Fletcher and Martha Harris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nine sisters and a brother.
She is survived by a niece, Jeannette A. Steele of Dover; a nephew, Donald A. Jones of New Castle; and several devoted friends who feel that their lives were enriched by knowing her, Shirley M. Holloway of Dover, Lenora H. Seaborn of Detroit and Fern and Isaac Byrd of Arlington, Va.
Services and burial were private.

James David Keys Jr., 71
CAMDEN - James D. Keys Jr. of Camden died, after a lengthy illness, Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 71.
Mr. Keys was born July 7, 1931 in Baltimore, son of the late James D. Keys Sr. and Bessie Keys.
He was educated at St. Peter's and worked for more than 25 years as a concrete mason and contractor.
Mr. Keys enjoyed talking on his CB radio and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret; and three brothers, William, John and Earl.
He is survived by a devoted wife of 51 years, Clemontine Keys; a daughter, Brenda Keys of Newark; a brother, Owens Keys of Baltimore; two sisters, Louise Floyd of Woodside and Ann Nickens of Baltimore; sister-in-law, Shirley Keys; brother-in-law, John William Floyd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be noon Saturday in the Second Baptist Church, Loockerman Street, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Gardens, Dover.

Golda M. Palmer, 91
REHOBOTH BEACH - Golda M. Palmer of Rehoboth Beach died Monday, May 14, 2001, in her home. She was 91.
Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker.
She was a 78-year member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, a charter member of Unity Chapter 16, O.E.S, and a member of the Robert Morris Uxor Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore W. Palmer Jr., in 1977; her parents, Clarence and Sarah Justice Hudson; her son, Theodore K. Palmer, in 1964; and her brother, Claude W. Hudson, in 1983.
She is survived by two daughters, Adella Vignola, and her husband, Raymond, of The Villages, Fla., and Alma Palmer of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Margaret Raynor of Merritt Island, Fla.; three grandchildren, Michael Vignola, and his wife, Susan, Theodore Vignola, and his wife, Diane, and Theresa Vignola; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road in Long Neck, where friends may call one hour prior to service, and where an Eastern Star Service will be held.
Burial will be in Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach.

Robert L. Rathfon, 80
GEORGETOWN - Robert L. Rathfon of Georgetown died of complications from cancer Sunday, May 13, 2001, in Westminster Retirement Village Health Center, Dover. He was 80.
Mr. Rathfon was born in Bradford, Pa., son of the late Norman L. Rathfon Sr. and Bessie Maltby Rathfon.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard destroyer escorts.
Mr. Rathfon graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1949.
He was technical educator at Erie High School, Erie, Pa., and was an instructor at a vocational school in Iran for two years. After leaving Iran he became director of Sussex Vo-Tech School, and subsequently director of Manpower Training for the state of Delaware, director of Continuing Education at Delaware Technical and Community College and an engineering instructor at that college, retiring in 1983.
He was an active supporter of local Boy Scouts.
Mr. Rathfon was a member of the Collins Pond Association and the Delaware Retired School Personnel Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Bish Rathfon; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas Lee and Louise Rathfon of Georgetown and Scott L. and Lynn Rathfon of Milford; three brothers, Alan Rathfon and Richard Rathfon of California and Bruce Rathfon of State College, Pa.; two sisters, Alice Morris of Virginia and Margaret Tingley of Bradford; and five grandchildren, John M. McCarty, Janine M. McCarty, Trevor Lee Rathfon, Dana L. Rathfon and Jenna D. Rathfon.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown.

Albert G. Shrader, 97
CHURCH HILL, Md. - Albert G. Shrader of Church Hill died of heart failure Sunday, May 13, 2001, in the home of his daughter. He was 97.
Mr. Shrader was born in Maben, W.Va., the son of the late George and Zelia Shrader.
He was a highly decorated veteran of World War II, receiving the Croix de Guerre (the French equivalent to the Medal of Honor) one Purple Heart and two Bronze Battle Stars. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and with the British Commandos.
Early in his life Mr. Shrader worked as a timber cutter. He then pursued a career in plumbing and worked with John Curlett, retiring in 1975.
For most of his life he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed gardening, reading and fixing and repairing most anything around the house. At age 97 he enjoyed riding his four-wheeler throughout the farm, and did so the morning of his death.
Mr. Shrader was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Caroline Shrader, in 1980; and seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by a daughter and her husband, whom he lived with for the past seven years, Zelia A. and Carl Radtka; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St. in Millington, where friends and family may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be private.

Bernard Traylor, 46
DOVER - Bernard Traylor of Dover died Friday, May 11, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. He was 46.
Mr. Traylor was born June 14, 1954, in Massillon, Ohio, the son of the late Louise K. Traylor and Billy Traylor.
He graduated from Washington High School in Massillon in 1972.
Shortly after graduation he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a tech sergeant until his retirement in 1992.
Mr. Traylor was also employed with Federal Express as a courier from 1993 until his death.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth; and a nephew, Rashad.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susan Traylor of Dover; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
Service will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to service.
Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Gardens, Dover.
Mary LaVelle Wheatley, 76
DAGSBORO - Mary LaVelle Wheatley of Dagsboro died from complications of open-heart surgery Friday, May 4, 2001, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. She was 76.
Mrs. Wheatley was born in Joliet, Ill., daughter of the late James M. and Helen McNearny Carden.
She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed collecting dolls and building miniature dollhouses.
Mrs. Wheatley was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Bethany Beach.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth B. Wheatley Jr.; a daughter, Valerie M. Willman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, Daniel B. Wheatley of Kent Island, Md.; and three grandchildren, Megan Willman, Marylin Wheatley and Patrick Wheatley.
Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Del. 26, Bethany Beach.
Burial will be private.

Ferdinand Francis 'Fred' Deusa, 72
MARYDEL, Md. - Ferdinand Francis "Fred" Deusa of Marydel died of serious illness Tuesday, May 13, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, Del. He was 72.
Mr. Deusa was born March 23, 1931, in Philadelphia, son of the late Joseph Deusa and Violet Richards Deusa.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
After being discharged from the service, Mr. Deusa was a self-employed Carpenter and worked many years as a carpenter for Harman's Homes in Marydel.
He enjoyed woodworking, making yard ornaments and children's toys.
Mr. Deusa spent most of his life in the Maryland area and attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Marydel. He also was a member of the VFW in Denton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances "June," in 1991; and his second wife, Doris, in 2000.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Wanda Deusa of Sudlersville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and David Soldano of Warminster, Pa., and Diane Edwards of Marydel; two brothers, Alex Deusa of Dover and Tom Deusa of Marydel; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Margaret and Earl Owen of Marydel, Del., and Rose Andell of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; and seven grandchildren, Clinton, Sophia, Shelly, Christina, Pamela, Paula and DJ.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.
Services will be noon Friday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs, Eastern Shore National Cemetery, 6827 E. New Market Elwood Road, Hurlock.

Jean McComrick Dougherty, 71
DAGSBORO - Jean McComrick Dougherty of Dagsboro died, after a long illness, Wednesday, May 7, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 71.
Mrs. Dougherty was born Aug. 23, 1931, in Frankford, daughter of the late Margaret and Edwin McComrick.
She graduated from John M. Clayton High School in 1949 as the class valedictorian, having achieved the highest academic average in the history of the school.
She was a member of Who's Who in Business and retired as co-owner of Linan Construction in Philadelphia, the city where she made her home for almost 20 years.
Mrs. Dougherty will be remembered for her many talents, which included gourmet cooking, quilt making and gardening, as well as for her love of animals and nature. Those who knew and loved her will miss her spirit, intellect, wise counsel and generous heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aloysius Dougherty, May 6, 1996; and by her daughter, Susan Poteat, Dec. 15, 2002.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol Quillen and Vito Amitrano of Bronxville, N.Y.; her granddaughter, Victoria Jean Poteat of Frankford; a sister, Betty Walker of Rehoboth Beach; a brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Jane McComrick of Dagsboro; and many beloved nieces, grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. May 31 in her home in Dagsboro. A memorial Mass will also be offered in her memory at Fordham University in New York.

Camilla LePore Griffin, 67
NEWARK - Camilla LePore Griffin of Newark died of complications of cancer Tuesday, May 13, 2003, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark. She was 67.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Henderson, Md., daughter of the late John and Catherine Bodine LePore.
She had lived in Dover until moving to Wilmington and later settling in Newark, where she had lived for the past 40 years. She had been a restaurateur and later became a beautician, operating her own business.
A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Griffin will be remembered for her love for crafts and flowers, and a special fondness for Atlantic City, N.J.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John S. Griffin III, who died in 1998.
She is survived by a son, John L. Griffin of Newark; two daughters and their spouses, Constance and Richard Holland of Dover and Cathy and William Cauffman of Wilmington; and five grandchildren, Trey Holland of Dover, Carolyn Lyon of Milford and Lauren Wilson, Scott Wilson and Valarie Cauffman, all of Wilmington.
Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
