M. Frances Robinson
ROSELLE - M. Frances Robinson of Roselle died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001.
Mrs. Robinson was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Richard and Esther Jane Nowland.
She was a charter member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine, Osiris Court 69 and served as High Priestess in 1959-1960. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Five Points Chapter 13, Newport and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, T. Garrett Robinson, Sr. in 1996 and a sister, Margaret Kilduff.
She is survived by a son, T. Garrett Robinson Jr. and his wife, Mary of Wilmington; a daughter, Jeanne R. Oney and her husband, Byron of Andrewsville; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Friends may call at the McCrery Memorial Chapel, Kirkwood Highway, (Rt. 2 east) and Duncan Road on Friday eve from 7-9 p.m. with The Ladies Oriental Shrine service at 7:30 p.m.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, preceded by Eastern Star Services.
Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the suggests contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, c/o Nur Temple, 198 S. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720.

John E. Pierce, 69
OCEAN VIEW - John E. Pierce of Ocean View died of cancer Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 69.
Mr. Pierce was born in Pennsylvania, the son of Kathryn Pierce of Pennsylvania and the late John Pierce.
He was a retired equipment adjuster for Scott Paper Co. in Philadelphia, with over 30 years of service.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Kathleen I. Pierce; two sons, Dennis of Dagsboro and David of Middletown; a daughter, Jackie Afifi of Philadelphia; a stepson, Allen Raab of Virginia; two stepdaughters, Kathy Hall of Baltimore and Kelly Raab of Ocean View; four brothers, Morris, Edward, Charles and Thomas; three sisters, Rosemary, Norma and Frances; and eight grandchildren, Robert, Harry, David, Brittany, Marina, Savanna, Seairra and Kate.
Service will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to: Tunnell Cancer Center, Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.

Jeffrey Dwight Shaffer, 40
GREENSBORO, Md. - Jeffrey Dwight Shaffer of Greensboro died of complications of adenocarcinoma Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in his home. He was 40.
Mr. Shaffer was born March 16, 1960, in Milford, the son of George and Ennis Shaffer.
He was employed by the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local 5555, as a welder, fabricator and mechanic. He traveled and worked throughout much of the east coast, building and repairing tanks. He worked several times in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska, welding and repairing fishing vessels from around the world.
He married Patti Cherry Shaffer on July 15, 1995.
He loved motorcycle dirt drag racing and was a past East Coast Dirt Drag Racing Champion. He had his own motorcycle repair business for several years outside of Greensboro, J & S Performance Cycle and Machine. A self-taught machinist, he could produce obsolete motorcycle parts and was the master Harley Davidson mechanic of all the land. An outdoorsman, Jeff loved hunting, fishing, camping end hiking. He was a jokester and made friends wherever he went.
He was a member of the National Transient Lodge, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local 5555.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he is survived by two step-sons, John Bronson Bishop and Cody Abram Bishop, both of Greensboro; two brothers and their wives, Harold and Linda Shaffer of Tallahassee, Fla., and John and Kathy Shaffer of Greensboro; a sister and her husband, Marley and Pastor Chan Hubbard of Greensboro; five nieces and nephews, James B. Simmons Jr., Charles D Shaffer, John Shaffer Jr., Heather Zawahry, and Wade Myers and a grand niece and two grand nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Greensboro Baptist Church, Greensboro, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery Greensboro.
Family suggests memorial contributions to the Greensboro Baptist Church, Building Fund P.O. Box 66 Greensboro, MD 21639.

Allen Lovett South, 70
MILTON - Allen Lovett South of Milton, formerly of Cochranville, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 70.
Mr. South received his Bachelors in Economics from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa., and had served for 10 years on the school board for the Unionville/Chadsford, Pa., school system.
He was an Air Force veteran.
Mr. South had held several managerial positions within the textile fibers department of the DuPont Co. for the 35 years retiring in 1990.
He and his wife moved permanently to Sussex County in 1998.
He was an avid fisherman.
Mr. South was a member of the American Legion Post 28.
He is survived by his wife of 49 year, Joan Carol South; two sons, Allen L. South Jr. of Darlington, Pa., and Stephen Cosby South of Downingtown, Pa.; a daughter, Deborah Kay South of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister, Dorothy South of Beaver, Pa.; a brother, Richard South of Darlington; a grandson, Christopher D. Ard of Slippery Rock, Pa.; and a granddaughter, Sarah Ann Jopchack of Darlington.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel 1449, Kings Highway, Lewes.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Cemetery South, Georgetown.

Mary R. Staats, 92
SMYRNA - Mary R. Staats of Smyrna died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in her home. She was 92.
Mrs. Staats was born Sept. 27, 1908, in Cheswold, the daughter of the late Frank and Bessie Jones Robinson.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A. Ford Staats, in 1971.
She is survived by a son, Herman H. Staats of Millsboro; a daughter, whom she lived with, Mary Ann McNatt of Smyrna; a brother, Frank Robinson of Rehoboth Beach; five grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Lula Mae Thompson, 89
CAMBRIDGE - Lula Mae Thompson of Cambridge, and formerly of Harrington, Del., died of natural causes Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001 in the Manor Care Center, Towson. She was 89.
Miss Thompson worked for years as a laborer at the Clayton Crab House in Cambridge.
She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, in Cambridge, where she served faithfully as a trustee, an usher, and a member of the church choir. She was also a member of the Elks Lodge 224, and the Daughters of the I.B.P.O.E. of West Cambridge.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Louis Edward and Judy Ann Benson Sr. of Baltimore; four grandchildren, Louis Jr., Angela, Kelly, and Tracey; four great-grandchildren, Marcus, Brittney, Dominic, and Ciara; her special cousins, Alex and Delbert E. Benson; and a god-daughter, Rita Cain.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the John Wesley Church, 840 Milford Neck Road in Milford, Del., where friends may call two hours prior to service.
Burial will be in the John Wesley Cemetery.

Ida Warren, 92
CORONA, N.Y. - Ida Warren of Corona died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in her home. She was 92.
Ms. Warren was born May 5, 1908, in Marydel, Del., the daughter of the late Lear Warren.
She left Delaware when she was 16-years-old and went to New York to live and was there until her death.
Ms. Warren gave her life to the Lord in the month of February 2000, under the leadership of the late Rev. Herlene Humbert of the Church of God in Christ.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Alina Sudler, Letha Saulsbury, Pearl Warren and Elva Wisher; two brothers, Raymond Warren, Joshua Gibbs.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ethel Warren of Dover; two nieces, Bernice Johnson of Rochester, N.Y., and Gloria Cooper of Camden; four nephews, John Saulsbury of Oklahoma, William Saulsbury of Dover, Melvin Saulsbury of South Carolina and Bernard Saulsbury of Rochester and a host of great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Service will be noon Friday at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church of God, Center Street, Camden, where friends may call two hours prior to service.

Donato Dalbis, 67
BETHANY BEACH - Donato Dalbis of Bethany Beach died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was 67.
Mr. Dalbis was born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., son of the late Vito and Elvira Dalbis.
He was a postal worker.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a military policeman in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Dalbis was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany Beach and its Men's Club and the Coast Guard Auxilliary Flotilla 12-01 in Ocean View.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille R. Dalbis; a son, Michael P. Dalbis of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; a daughter, Diane C. Godin, and son-in-law, Larry of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Judy Bondra Dalbis of La Hrangeville, N.Y.; two brothers, Vincent Dalbis of Bethel, Conn., and Angelo Dalbis of Yonkers, N.Y.; three sisters, Mary Dimico of Florida, Celia Archer of Carmel, N.Y., and Louise Holly of Yonkers, N.Y.; a grandson, Nicholas Dalbis; and a granddaughter, Haley Dalbis.
Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. today at the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue in Ocean View, where a prayer service will be 5 p.m.

William Franklin Easton, 72
ROCK HALL, Md. - William Franklin Easton of Rock Hall died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital following a motor vehicle accident. He was 72.
Mr. Easton was born July 15, 1928, in Derwood, Md., the son of the late Charles W. and Ethel A. Orme Easton.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged.
He owned and operated Easton Roofing and Siding based out of Rock Hall, where he was working at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Esther Louise Easton of Rock Hall; four step-daughters, Jenny Lee Boulter of Rock Hall, and Elsie May Kitchens, Vicky Avants, and Judy Chandler, all of Portland, Ore.; two stepsons, Madison W. Crouch and Charles L. Crouch both of Rock Hall; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at a later date.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 577, Rock Hall, MD 21661.

David A. Hyer Jr., 63
COLUMBIA, Md. - David A. Hyer Jr. of Columbia died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in Howard County General Hospital, Columbia. He was 63.
Mr. Hyer was born May 28, 1937, in Haddonfield, N.J., son of Norma Hyer of Sudlersville, and the late David Hyer.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sons, David Hayer of Aurora, Colo., Andrew Hyer of St. Louis, Mo., and Steven Hyer of Columbia; a sister, Evie Ann Jacobs of Smyrna; a brother, Robert Hyer of Marydel; a dear companion, Phyllis Rice of Columbia; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon-8 p.m. Sunday and 4-8 p.m. Monday at 6453 Red Keel, Columbia.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Witzke's Funeral Home Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia.

Mary Lou Brittingham Marino, 57
SEAFORD - Mary Lou Brittingham Marino of Seaford died of cancer March 29, 2001, in her home. She was 57.
Mrs. Marino was born in Blades, daughter of Alice Vickers Brittingham of Seaford and the late Reese O. Brittingham.
She was a computer operator for Cargill Grain Inc. of Seaford, retiring in 1986 after 24 years.
Mrs. Marino was a member of Seaford Wesleyan Church Seaford.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, John V. Marino Jr.; a daughter and her husband, Cindy Marino and Charles Bolan of Sicily, Italy; two sisters, Charlotte Patterson of Seaford and Shirley Schmidt of Florida; and four grandchildren, Matthew Pitts, Stephen Pitts, Jessica Pitts, Andrew Hungerford.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King Streets in Seaford, where friends may call one hour prior to service. Pastor Harold Daniels and Pastor Todd Crofford will officiate.

Dr. Joseph D. Moore, 93
DOVER - Dr. Joseph D. Moore of Dover died Friday, March 30, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 93.
Dr. Moore was born in Lancaster County, Pa., and raised in Mount Joy, Pa., where he graduated from Mount Joy High School. He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster with an A.B. degree and from the University of Pennsylvania with A.M. and D.Ed. degrees.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a naval air navigator. He served as teacher and was in charge of ground training for the NAS, Corpus Christi, Texas and was navigation and aerology officer on the staff of Adm. J.J. Clark when he was chief of Naval Air Basic Training Command. He was separated at the end of the war as lieutenant commander, USNR.
He retired from the Delaware State Department of Public Instruction in 1973. He was an educator for 43 years, serving as teacher, principal, administrator and supervisor of teacher education. He formerly taught at High Spire, Pa., Mechanicsburg, Pa., Haddonfield, N.J., and Scarsdale, N.Y.
He served as supervising principal of Lower Camden Regional High School District, principal of Lansdowne-Aldan High School, Lansdowne, Pa., director of secondary education for the Paoli Area High School System, Paoli, Pa., and supervisor of teacher education and professional standards in the Delaware Department of Public Instruction.
He lived in the Westminster Village Retirement Community. He continued to be active in the Westminster Village activities, in Rotary International, the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club and the SICO Foundation Scholarship Program.
He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Dover. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, the SPCA, and Rotary Clubs wherever he was employed after joining in 1946. He was president of the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club and served in Rotary International in 1977-1978 as governor of District 783, which consists of Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. In Rotary, he was a Paul Harris Fellow five times over. As past district governor, he served on many committees where he devoted much time to the Group Study Exchange Committee of District 763. He enjoyed the friendship of many Rotarians throughout the world of Rotary.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian Backenstoe Moore; two sons, Dr. John W. Moore, professor of chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Robert C. Moore, principal staff engineer at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory; two grandchildren, Christi Ruth Sutton of Columbia Md., and Melinda Joy Moore of Ellicott City, Md.; a great-granddaughter, Mirah Alexis Sutton; and a sister, Ethel M. Broske of Mt. Joy, Pa.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church of Dover, State and Reed streets.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Presbyterian Church of Dover Memorial Fund, 54 South State St., Dover, DE 19904 or Westminster Village/Dover Welfare Fund, 1175 McKee Road, Dover, DE 19904.

Jeannette Pernol, 65
HARTLY - Jeannette Pernol of Hartly died of natural causes Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 65.
Ms. Pernol was born June 12, 1935, in Odessa, daughter of the late Irving Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Phillips Godwin.
She was a lifetime resident of Hartly.
She worked as a forklift operator at Playtex for 42 years.
Ms. Pernol was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church in Goldsboro, Md., and attended Smyrna Wesleyan Church. She was also a member of the Ladies of Moose in Camden.
She is survived by three sons, Charles Irving Pernol Sr. of Greensboro, Md., George Ernest Pernol of Greenwood and Paul Pernol of Hartly; a daughter, Paula Ewell of Smyrna; a sister, Pauline Turner of Clayton; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A. in Greensboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Old Drawyers Cemetery in Odessa.
