Rachel Grace F. Numbers, 78
DOVER - Rachel Grace F. Numbers of Dover died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 78.
Mrs. Numbers was born June 13, 1924, in Honesdale, Pa., daughter of the late Walter and Grace (Hayes) Fritz.
She was a teacher in the Capital School District for many years.
She was an avid gardener with special interest in African violets. She acted as a consultant to many community persons giving tips on how to be successful in growing violets.
Mrs. Numbers was a member of the GFWC Delaware State Federation of Women's Clubs, holding positions such as chairperson and member of the finance committee, chairperson of registration for conventions, HOBY Delaware Leadership Committee member and counselor for seminars. She was also a member of the Dover Century Club, holding positions as treasurer, chairperson for the Garden Study Group, a member of the Craft Group, a member of the Bridge Group, and a volunteer for many projects sponsored by the club. She was also a member of the Newcomers Club of Dover and the Quilting Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Dave" Numbers; and a son, John Numbers.
She is survived by a son, William Numbers of Dover; and four brothers, Walter S. Fritz Jr. of New Jersey, William H. Fritz of Virginia, Frederick J. Fritz of Florida and George A. Fritz of New York.
Friends may call noon Wednesday in Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association of Delaware, Wilmington.

Melvin P. 'Mel' Seichepine Jr., 46
CLAYTON - Melvin P. "Mel" Seichepine Jr. of Clayton died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 46.
Mr. Seichepine was born in Wilmington, son of Jane S. (Fie) Seichepine of New Castle and the late Melvin P. Seichepine Sr. who died in 1990.
He graduated in 1975 from William Penn High School.
Mr. Seichepine worked as an assembler for General Motors for 26 years. During that time, he served as a committeeman for many years for the United Auto Workers Local 435.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, president of the Ocean Pro Bass Hunters and was recently appointed vice president of the Delaware Bass Federation. Mr. Seichepine was a friend to all who knew him and many considered him like a brother. Most importantly, he was a very loving husband, father, son and brother.
Mr. Seichepine was a member of Holloway Terrace Fire Co. for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela J. (Taddei) Seichepine of Clayton; two children, Dawn M. and Steven P. Seichepine of Clayton; three sisters, Debra L. Carpenter of Virginia Beach, Va., Bonnie V. Sokira of Wilmington, and Beth A. Seichepine of Richmond, Va.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, Minquadale, New Castle.

Estella Elizabeth Stowman, 100
FELTON - Estella Elizabeth Stowman of Felton, formerly of Centreville, Md., died after a short illness in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford, with family at her side. She was 100.
Mrs. Stowman was born in Queen Anne's County, Md., daughter of the late Joseph E.R. and Anna Mae Turner Coppage.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Stowman lived on the Stowman farm on Burrissville Road near Centreville, for more than 40 years.
She enjoyed making quilts, needlework and reading. She also loved her flowers, especially roses and she enjoyed having company and visits with friends and family.
Mrs. Stowman attended Bethany United Methodist Church in Price, Md.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Frank Merchant in 1933; her second husband, Edward Stowman in 1981; a son, Edward Earl Stowman; three brothers, Joseph, Benjamin and Frank Coppage; and a sister, Anna Mae Roe.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia Merchant and John Bakker of Chestertown, Md., Alta Stowman and Harry Campbell of Felton and Barbara Stowman and Charles "Fred" Starkey of New Castle; a brother, Charles C. Coppage of Chestertown; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nd six great-great-grandchildren
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington, here friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Church Hill Cemetery, Church Hill, Md.

Helena Renee Thorpe, 42
TWIN OAKS, Pa. - Helena Renee Thorpe of Twin Oaks died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, in Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia. She was 42.
Ms. Thorpe was born in Chester, daughter of Rachel Thorpe of Twin Oaks and the late William R. Thorpe.
She was a 1978 graduate of the Chichester Senior High School in Boothwyn. She also attended Widener University for three years.
She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1983 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1987.
Ms. Thorpe became a member of the Unity Baptist Church in 2001 under the pastorate of Rev. Herbert Byrd, where she sang with the Voices of Unity.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Spencer Thorpe and Jamaal Cooper, both of Twin Oaks; eight brothers and their wives, Delbert and Phyllis Dixon of Greenwood, Del., Keith Thorpe of Aston, Vernell Thorpe and Bruce and Rotha Thorpe of Chester, James and Karlieta Thorpe of New Castle, Del., Darrell Thorpe of Philadelphia, Thomas and Phancia Thorpe of Bear, Del., and Kenneth Thorpe Sr. of Killen, Texas; six sisters and their husbands, the Rev. Frances and Carl Benson of Harrington, Del., Roberta Thorpe of Chester, Karen Thorpe of Norfolk, Va., Cecelia Thorpe White of New Castle, Del., Cheryl and Valera Thorpe of Twin Oaks; a goddaughter, Teria Montez; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 101 Washington Ave., Twin Oaks, where friends may call two hours earlier. The family will assemble at 21 Broadway Ave, Twin Oaks.
Burial will be in Lawncroft Cemetery, Linwood.

Ann Watson, 76
MILFORD - Ann Watson of Milford died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in the home of her daughter. She was 76.
Miss Watson was a greeter at the Milford Wal-Mart for five years before retiring due to health reasons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Norma Messick Watson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Charles Walters of Ellendale; five grandchildren, Mark and his wife, Renee Stevens of Harrington, Gary Stevens of Greenwood, Rhonda Stevens of Harrington, Wayne Wilkerson of Milford and Dianna Smith of Frederica, and five great-grandchildren, Wendy Stevens, Mark Stevens Jr., Edwin Todd and Kayla and Jeremy Mullins, all of Ohio.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford.
Burial will be private.

Minnie Oliva Watson, 73
GEORGETOWN - Minnie Oliva Watson of Georgetown died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 73.
Mrs. Watson worked at Henry's Newsstand for more than 40 years and Smith's Restaurant in Georgetown for three years as a waitress before retiring due to health reason in February 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer E. and Clara Spicer Jewell and her husband, Howard W. Watson Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Reynolds of Georgetown; two sons, Howard "Buddy" Watson Jr. and Ralph Watson, both of Georgetown; a sister, Edna Powell of Georgetown; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Short Funeral Services, 609 East Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Cokesbury Cemetery, Del. 18, west of Georgetown.

William Stanford Wilson, 82
SMYRNA - William Stanford Wilson of Smyrna died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 82.
Mr. Wilson was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Upper Hill, Md., son of the late Herbert and Evelyn Wilson.
Upon graduation from high school, he attended Bowie State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.
He served four years in the U.S. Army, obtaining a rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged.
He later attended Maryland State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial arts.
While attending Maryland State, he met and married the former Loretta Bransom and thereupon brought forth two children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife.
He is survived by his second wife, Charity Collins; two sons, Michael and Wayne Wilson; a granddaughter, Christiana A. Wilson; and three sisters, Marguerita, Celestine and Connie.
Services will be noon Tuesday in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the Sharon Hills Memorial Gardens, Dover.

William 'Pete' Smith, 58
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - William "Pete" Smith died Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. He was 58.
Mr. Smith was born June 26, 1942, in Bigwood, son of Bernice Boyer Smith Lomax and the late Bernard Wilson Smith.
He graduated from Henry Highland Garnett High School, Chestertown, in 1961.
He worked at Local 199 in Wilmington, Del., for many years. Later, he was employed at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club, Chestertown, until his illness.
Mr. Smith loved to talk and always shared the memories of his days at Garnett and his days as a young boy in Bigwood.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty Smith; a son, Lavaughn Smith; a daughter, Anjanette Graves; a son-in-law, Augustine Graves; three brothers, Alonzo "Duke" Smith, Charles "Buck" Smith and Carlton Freeman; five sisters, Shirley Warren, Louise Shorter, Catherine Murray, Hannah Henry, and Vanessa Lomax; a grandson, Davaughn Smith; and two granddaughters, Chanice and Aaliyah Graves.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Pomona.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, where friends also may call two hours prior to the ceremony. The Rev. Gonzalee Matthews will officiate.
Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, Georgetown.

Nina Piper van Dyke, 91
HOLLAND, Pa. - Nina Piper van Dyke, a resident of Holland since 1992, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001. She was 91.
Mrs. van Dyke was born Nov. 21, 1909, in Birmingham, Ala., daughter of the late Charles Edward Piper and Fanny Scott Washington Piper.
She attended St. Catherine's School, Richmond, Va., and Columbia University.
Mrs. van Dyke was a member of the New Jersey and Philadelphia chapters of the Colonial Dames of America and the Wilmington, Del., and Philadelphia chapters of the Junior League. She was a member of the Rehoboth Art League, Rehoboth Beach, Del., was active in local French clubs throughout her life and volunteered her time to numerous charities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John Henry Washington and Nina Dulany Carter Washington, who had lived in Warrenton, Va. She was descended from Maj. Lawrence Washington, grandfather of George Washington, and also was a descendant, through her maternal grandmother, of Robert "King" Carter, colonial governor of Virginia.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Richardson van Dyke; two sons, John Washington van Dyke of Darien, Conn., and Carter van Dyke of Doylestown, Pa.; a daughter, Nina Dulany van Dyke of New York; and a granddaughter, Alyssa Reid van Dyke of New York.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 15 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sussex Family YMCA, 105 Church St., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.

William P. Dellinger Sr., 82
MILFORD - William P. Dellinger Sr. of Milford died, after a long illness, Friday, May 16, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 82.
Mr. Dellinger was born in Catawba, N.C., son of the late Daniel and Mamie Goodson Dellinger.
He had owned and operated Wollters Dry Cleaning in Milford for 38 years, retiring in 1984.
At one time, he had enjoyed playing bridge and bowling.
Mr. Dellinger was a 32nd-degree Mason and member of the Temple Lodge 9, and also was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Milford. He was a former member of the Milford Kiwanis Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William P. Dellinger Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia B. Dellinger; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Stephen B. and Nancy Dellinger of Harrington and Michael W. and Diane Dellinger of Dover; another daughter-in-law, Judy Witman of Milford; a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Ronald Keller of Lake Butler, Fla.; six grandchildren, Robyn Johnson of Milford, Beth Zaiser of Sellersville, Pa., Brian Dellinger of Windsor, Vt., Eric Dellinger of Newark and Jennifer Wilder and David Keller, both of Lake Butler; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford

Richard S. 'The B.G. Man' Fulkerson Jr., 73
CAMDEN - Richard S. "The B.G. Man" Fulkerson Jr. of Rising Sun, near Camden, died of natural causes Wednesday, May 14, 2003, in his home. He was 73.
Mr. Fulkerson was born in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Richard S. and Catherine McGowan Fulkerson.
He was a retired master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.
After his retirement from military duty, he served as the Delmarva Peninsula sales representative for B.G. Products Inc., where he was fondly known as "The B.G. Man."
Mr. Fulkerson retired from B.G. Products in 1995 and spent many days fishing and visiting flea markets. He had a passion for bicycling and was an instrumental force in the implementation of bike paths in the local area and throughout southern Delaware. A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, he had a sense of humor which will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Kueny Fulkerson of Rising Sun; three sons, the companion of one and the fiancees of two, respectively, Stephen S. Fulkerson and Bobbie Hobbs and Joseph Fulkerson and Jill Offidani, all of Dover, and Michael F. Fulkerson and Vanessa Glanden, both of Camden; two daughters and the companion of one, Patricia Anderson and Tim Cano, both of Rehoboth Beach, and Salli Fulkerson of Dover; two grandsons, Donovan Anderson and Jonathan Anderson, both of Dover; four brothers, Paul of Dyersburg, Tenn., Robert of Wisconsin, Hubert of Indiana and Herbert of West Virginia; a sister, Dixie Lee Fletcher of Carterville, Ill.; and his special niece, Sandra Phillips, formerly of Dover.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Grace Hawkins Glaser, 58
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Grace Hawkins Glaser of Berkeley Springs died after an extended illness Thursday, May 15, 2003, in her home. She was 58.
Mrs. Glaser was born June 17, 1944, in Sykesville, Md., daughter of Hillis A. Hawkins of Westminster and the late Jack H. Hawkins, who died in 1997.
She had been employed for several years with the state of Maryland and also sold real estate.
Mrs. Glaser was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy H. Staub.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 24 years, Steven L. Glaser; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne D. and Melissa Harris of Sulphur Springs, Texas; two grandchildren, John Harris and Hannah Harris; five sisters, Jewel Hawkins, Susie Garver and Linda Lantz, all of Westminster, Wanda Derr of Reisterstown and Marcella Hansen of Selbyville, Del.; two brothers, Joel Hawkins and Earl Hawkins, both of Westminster; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.
Burial will be private.

Robert Edward Knarr Sr., 70
DOVER - Robert Edward Knarr Sr. of Dover died Friday, May 16, 2003 in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 70.
Mr. Knarr was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Treverton, Pa., son of the late J. Robert and Dorothy (Delbaugh) Knarr.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Knarr moved to Delaware and began a 22-year career with the Caesar Rodney School District. He served as principal for Welch Elementary and W.B. Simpson Elementary. He retired from the district in 1991.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed family activities, especially traveling and vacationing with his family and grandchildren. Recently, he and his wife had the joy of celebrating 50 years of marriage with family and friends. His hobbies included golfing, woodworking and collecting nature's treasures.
Mr. Knarr was a member of the Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Camden, where he was active in the United Methodist Men and the church choir. He was a member of the Maple Dale Country Club, Dover. He also was a past member and president of the Camden-Wyoming Lions Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joyce L. Knarr, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. Knarr Jr. and Karen Knarr of Chickamauga, Ga.; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Kristine and Curt Dotson of Dover and Karen and Michael Greenlee of Frederica; two sisters, Doris Spink of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and Lulamae Lotz of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Dotson of Dover and Robert William Jackson Knarr and Katheryn Knarr, both of Georgia.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Monday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South, Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Michael Joseph 'Mike' Loftus, 78
FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Michael Joseph "Mike" Loftus of Federalsburg died Thursday, May 15, 2003, in his home. He was 78.
Mr. Loftus was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Dallas, son of the late Frank A. Loftus and Winfield McCamey.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the corps of engineers and was honorably discharged in November 1944.
After graduating in Dallas, Mr. Loftus attended college at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and earned a degree in physics.
Throughout his career, he worked as a purchasing agent for Brunswick Corp., and locally with Maryland Plastics Inc. and Tri-Gas & Oil Co. Inc. He retired as a grant administrator with the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, in 1990 after 11 years.
He was an avid musician, playing clarinet and his bass fiddle with such organizations as the Coral Mummers String Band, the Salaam Shriners' String Band of Livingston, N.J., and Avalon String Band in Philadelphia. Locally, he played in the Salisbury Community Players Orchestra, the Dover Symphony Orchestra and his own dance band, "Old Gold."
Mr. Loftus was a member of Salaam Shriners and a choir member with Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Loftus.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dee Loftus; four children, Michael A. Loftus of St. Paul, Minn., Mani A. Guesfeird and Kelly D. Loftus, both of Federalsburg, and Tony E. Loftus of Little Rock, Ark; six grand-children, Whitney Loftus, Tyler Loftus, Tabatha Guesfeird, Zachary Guesfeird, Joseph Bayliss and Abigail Loftus; and a sister, Patricia McCamey.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg.
