Ruby Morgan Albritton
Mrs. Ruby Morgan Albritton of Cross City passed away Friday, November 25, 2005 at the Cross City Rehab. She was 93 years of age. Born in Cross City, Mrs. Albritton lived the majority of her life in Dixie County as a homemaker and a mother. She attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Cross City. She is survived by her son, Warren Smith of Old Town and daughter Norma Folks of St. Marks, FL; 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husbands, Bonton Smith and Julian C. Albritton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at 1:00 pm at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Hatcher, Rev. Cecil Clendenin and Rev. Chris Clendenin officiating. Burial followed at Summerville Cemetery at New Prospect Baptist Church. A visitation was held Monday evening between 6 and 8 pm. Arrangements were placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, FL 352-498-5400.
Ester Mae Carter
Mother Ester Mae Carter, 82, was born May 25, 1923 in Patsburg, Alabama to the late Gene and Viola Foster . She moved to Cross City, Florida in 1964 where she worked at the Cross City Veneer Crate Mill for 30 plus years. She confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of the Royal Temple Church of God in Christ, where she served as Mother of the Church and Pastor’s Aid, until her journey ended on November 24, 2005.
She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 sons, Deacon Johnnie Foster (Mabel) of Youngstown, Ohio, Deacon Willie D. McClain (Joyce) of Malone, Florida and her ‘Special Baby Girl’ Jessica Chewning of Cross City, Florida; 3 brothers – Bennie Foster of Montgomery, Alabama, Rev. James Foster (Mary) of Youngstown, Ohio and Eddie Foster of; 3 sisters – Ebenezer Fischer (Woodrow) of Helican, AL, Gussie Foster and Mary Smiley both of Luverne, Alabama; 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral services for Mother Carter will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2005, 2:00 P.M. at the Dixie County High School Auditorium. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 2, 2005 from 6 – 8 P.M. at Royal Temple Church of God in Christ.
Judson Wayne Walker
Judson Wayne Walker of Old Town passed away Saturday, March 11, 2006 as the result of an auto accident. He was 17 years old. He was a lifetime resident of Dixie County. Justin played football for one year and was a member of the Beta Club for one year at Dixie County High School.
He is survived by his Father, Wayne Walker of Old Town; Sisters, Tammy (Shane) Martin of MacClenny, Tanya (Allen) Shadd of MacClenny; Maternal Grandparents, Kelton and Eilene Johns of Chiefland; Paternal Grandparents, Jim and Juanita Millican of Old Town; Nephew, Wesley Crawford of MacClenny, Nieces, Alyssa Crawford, Kara Dupree, Cassie Martin, Julie Ann Martin and Blair Shadd all of MacClenny. Many family and friends. His mother Debbie Johns Walker precedes him in death.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel in Cross City, with Rev. Jake Cravey officiating. Burial will follow at Joppa Cemetery in Fanning Springs. A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 15, 2006, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.
In Lieu of Flowers the family request donations be made to the Dixie Education Foundation for The Class of 2007, Judson Wayne Walker Scholarship.
Bertie Mae Valentine
Bertie Mae Valentine of Cross City passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 99 years old. She was a lifelong resident of Dixie County. Bertie was the last charter member of Lydia Baptist Church, which was founded in 1932. She served as church clerk at Lydia from 1932 until 1970, and also served as song director for many years.
She is survived by Sons, Buster Valentine (Betty) and Benny Valentine (Edith) both of Cross City; Daughters, Inez Swafford, Winnie Hicks and Audrey Bush (Kenneth) all of Cross City and Joyce Powell (Jerry) of Vidalia, GA; brother, Sam Futch of Cross City; 16 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 12, 2006 at 2:00pm at the Lydia Baptist Church in Cross City with Rev Wayne Allen officiating. Burial followed at the Cross City Cemetery. A visitation was held Saturday, March 11, 2006 between the hours of 6 and 8PM at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home in Cross City.
Arrangements were placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City.
Maurice Leon Spears
Maurice Leon Spears, age 73, of Old Town, Florida died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at his home. Maurice was born in Tampa, Florida. He was a resident of Old Town for 20 years. Maurice is survived by his Wife – Martha Sue Spears of Old Town, Fl, his Son & Daughter-in-laws – Reggie & Laura Spears of Bell, Fl, - Wayne & Sherry Spears of Trenton, Fl, - and Chuck & Theresa Spears of Old Town, Fl, - his Grandsons – Wadie Spears of Bell, Fl, - Reggie Spears of Bell, Fl, - his Granddaughters – Linda Spears of Bell, Fl, - Ginny Long of Alachua, Fl, - April Long of Trenton, Fl, - Samantha Hansen of Alachua, Fl, - his Great Grandchildren – Hagan Spears, Amiah Long, Silas Griffin, - and his Brother Edwards Spears of Bell, Fl.

Imogene Hodges Ruth
Imogene Hodges Ruth, age 80, of Newberry, Fl. died Thursday March 9, 2006 at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville, Fl. Mrs. Ruth was born in Paint Rock, Tennessee and moved to Cross City in 1958 where she lived until 2005 when she moved to Newberry. She loved birds and flowers and was a seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband – Jim Ruth and is survived by her daughter – Elaine Brown and son-in-law Bill Brown of Newberry, her sister – Christine Osborne of Madisonville, Tn, and two grandchildren – Beverly Flower and Timothy Brown.

Sylvia Jean Jerrells
Sylvia Jean Jerrells of Cross City passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at her home. She was 48 years old. She moved here in 1980 from Middleburg, FL.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Daniel Jerrells of Cross City; parents, Roy & Lois Sikes of Leesburg, FL; children, Jamie Cunningham of Cross City, Kim Sherrod of Lake Wales, and John Cunningham, Jr. of Cross City; brothers, Bruce Sikes of Cross City, Roy Sikes, Jr. of Fanning Springs and Steve Sikes of Trenton; sisters, Teresa Langford of Pineview, GA and Missy Butler of Cross City; and 6 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 2:00pm at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel in Cross City with Rev. Jim Hurst officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. A visitation was held Friday, March 10, 2006 between the hours of 6 and 8 PM.
