Edward Franklin Osteen
Edward Franklin Osteen of Horseshoe Beach passed away Friday, April 7, 2006 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 70 years old. He was a lifetime resident of Dixie County. A retired commercial fisherman. He was of the Church of God Faith.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Osteen; son, Eddie Osteen; daughter, Bessie Bullock all of Horseshoe Beach; brothers, Lester Osteen of Cross City and Anderson Osteen of Old Town; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Osteen were held graveside Sunday, April 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Butler Cemetery on the Horseshoe Beach Road with Rev. Lester Osteen officiating. A visitation was held Saturday, April 8, 2006 between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home.
Arrangements were placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, US Hwy 19, Cross City, FL, 352-498-5400.

Lonnie Larue Lackey
Lonnie Larue Lackey of Gainesville passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2005 at this weekend residence in Old Town. He was 57 years old. A Lieutenant with the Gainesville Fire-Rescue he retired on August 1994 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Professional Firefighters of Gainesville #2157. In 1978 he opened Trip L Electric and in 2004 he started Triple L Builders of which he was currently operating. Larue graduated from Gainesville High School in 1967 and went on to attend and play football for Vanderbilt University.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, JoAnn Lackey of Gainesville; step-mother Helen Lackey of Alachua; daughter Marci Oregon (Donald) of St. Petersburg; sons, Dean Zetrouer (Heather) of Newberry, Joey Langford (Tina) of Newberry, Josh Langford (Amanda) of Old Town and Michael Langford (Maria) of Newberry; brother, Carl Lackey of Hopkinsville, KY; sisters, Sue Wine of Narragansett Pier, NJ, Betty Baldree of Cleveland, TN and Ellen Goerndt of Homosassa Springs, FL; and 7 Grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Children’s Miracle Network at Shands University of Florida.
Arrangements were placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, US Hwy 19, Cross City, FL (352) 498-5400.

Noah Hutchinson Connell
The Rev. Noah Hutchinson Connell, 78, a retired Pentecostal minister, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, in Gainesville. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Iva Connell.
The services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the Cody Pentecostal Church, with burial at Broom Sage Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (850-877-8191).
The Rev. Connell was born in Jefferson County and was a longtime resident of Jefferson County and Leon County before moving to Gainesville and Old Town 20 years ago. He founded and built many Pentecostal churches in Woodville, Fort Lauderdale, Old Town, and many other cities, with the most recent being Piney Wood Community Church.
Other survivors include a son, Golden Floyd Connell of Woodville; two daughters, Eloise Connell-Gramling of Tallahassee and Janet Marie Foster of Old Town; a brother, Clyde Connell of Tallahassee; two sisters, Pauline Rudell of Wacissa and Eldie Sauls of Monticello; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Two daughters, Gloria Faye Gramling and Charity Mae Connell; three sisters, Orene Smith, Olivia Bramlett and Yvonne Walker; and three brothers, Jimmie R. Connell, Winton Ivy Connell and Tony Connell, preceded him in death.

Mary Jo Sheets
Mary Jo Sheets of Cross City passed away Sunday June 26, 2005 at North Florida Regional Hospital after a long illness. She was 62. Born in Brundidge, Alabama, Mrs. Sheets was a seamstress in Cross City for 22 years. She was a member of the Cross City Church of God and her life was her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Willie Gene Sheets of Cross City; son Jerry Sheets of Cross City; daughters, Brenda Gay, Sarah Bond, Martha Sheets, Susan Greene and Rachael Jones all of Cross City; brother, Herman Smith of Ozark, Al; sisters, Lynn Kennedy of Brantley Al and Jennifer Linton of Troy, Al; grandchildren, Jason Hamilton, Brittany Gay, Adrian Miller, Selina Sheets, Daniel bond, Kaitlyn Sheets, Colby Johnson, Brandon, Greene and Ricky Jones; and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 28,2005 at 2:00pm. at the Cross City Church of God with Rev. Ed. Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Cross City Cemetery. A visitation were held Monday, June 27,2005 between the hours of 6and 8 pm at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Fl. 352-498-5400.

George Theodore (Ted) Jackson
Ted Jackson died at his home on February 22, 2006, after a long illness.
Born and raised in suburban Philadelphia, PA, Ted enlisted in the US Army Air Force after graduating from high school and spent the next five years in Japan as part of the occupational forces.
The 11th Airborne Division was sent to Korea in 1950. Ted was wounded in 1950 and received the Purple Heart. He continued to service in the Army and Air Force until his discharged December 1958.
Upon his return to the States, Ted enrolled at Temple University and began employment with General Electric in their Space and Missile Division, working on the Apollo Mission. He graduated from Temple University in 1968 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. In 1967 Ted married Adelaide H. Harper and in 1969, they relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL, where Ted joined the Burroughs Corporation. He became a licensed General Contractor in 1980 and became involved in office building construction in South Florida.
Upon his retirement in 1989, Ted and Adelaide moved to Old Town. He was a life member of the VFW Post #5625 Chiefland, was the first Commander and life member of the Tri-County Chapter #533 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife Adelaide H. Jackson; stepson William G. Harper, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; stepdaughter Jane Harper Shuluk, New York City, NY; Grandson Harry C. Shuluk, New York City, NY; and brother John A. Jackson, Queensbury, NY.
Internment and graveside services in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL will be private family only with a VFW Honors Ceremony.
Arrangements were placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City.

Oral Garland Lee
Oral Garland Lee, 75, passed away Monday, February 27, 2006 at his home in Old Town, Florida. Born in Gandeeville, West Virginia he moved to this area 25 years ago from Detroit, Michigan. He was retired from Cadillac Motor Corporation after 30 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and listening to bluegrass music.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Lee of Old Town, FL; son, Michael Lee of Gandeeville, WV; three daughters, Sharon Lee Tignor of Charleston, WV, Cassandra Provo of Cooks, MI; and Candase Tuttle of Canton, MI; two brothers, Carl Lee of Speed, WV, and Elmer Lee of Lincoln Park, MI; two sisters, Ruby Brannon of Spencer, WV and Violet Weaver of Liberty, WV; three grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date in West Virginia.

Maurice Allen Barden
December 9, 1943-July 20, 2005
Mr. Maurice Allen Barden, 62 years old, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at the Malcolm Randall V.A. in Gainesville, Florida after a lengthy illness caused by exposure to Agent Orange. Mr. Barden was born in Mayo, Florida, resided in Dixie County the majority of his life and has lived in Ormond Beach, Florida for the last 7 years. Mr. Barden was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam.
Mr. Barden is survived by his wife, Stormy Barden of Ormond Beach one daughter, Holly Denise Corbitt of Cross City; two sons, Lucas Allen Barden of Old Town and Michael Adam Barden of Cross City; one step-son, Sean Matthew Stott of Fanning Springs; one step-daughter, Lorna Lincoln of Zuma, Japan; three brothers, Derl Barden of Wasilla, Alaska, Doyle Barden of Old Town and A.J. Barden of Interlachen; two sisters, Loretta Giddings of Kanab, Utah and Marleen Valentine of Old Town; a host of nieces and nephews and twelve grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 10:30 am at Bethel Baptist Church in Hatchbend, Florida with Rev. Samuel Corbin officiating. Burial followed at Walker Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of Daniels Funeral Home in Branford, Florida.
